Boat Rebuild Ep. 7 Finishing the Floor
Hey Everyone! I’m excited to introduce a project that I began several years ago, which started as a cheap boat to get my wife, my dog, and I, out on the water! Unfortunately this seemingly simple project took a turn for the worst, and turned into an unforeseen complete rebuild.. and with the addition of our twin boys, a safe boat is priority.
I’ll be taking this 1989 Regal Medallion 185 bowrider and rebuilding it to better, and safer, than factory condition (that’s the plan anyway!). Follow along as I document the restoration progress, doing everything from wood work, fiberglass, engine and outdrive install, and an interior refresh. It’s a big project, but in the end it’ll be worth it!
In this episode I’ll be finishing the floor rebuild, and getting it ready for fiberglass.
Please note this is not an instructional or how to video. I am simply documenting the work being done, and giving some advice on how to make small steps of the process easier, based on my experience, should you find yourself tackling a similar project. Please make sure to do your own research!
Thanks for watching!

Arrow head shape!
Hey man I have a question about the lightweight. I habe a 15V manix blade that's in a lightweight frame.. I bought it this way. Im having a major issue to where the blade isn't locking up. So I guess my question is, does the lightweight blade have slightly different lock geometry or a different lock ball? Out of the 100s of blades ive had from spyderco, none of them hahe been a manix. The only reason i bought this is because the blade is 15v and its the only leaf shaped blade in this steel. (To me the best steel they made) Any help would be appreciated
My understanding is the lightweight blade is slightly different than the g10 blade, which the 15v originally came as. As far as I know, the two are not compatible. Next time I take my g10 and lightweight versions apart, I’m going to see what the differences are . Sorry I couldn’t help more than that!
I have had experience with various mts over the years from Leatherman and Victorinox. I'm a pretty light user, not a mechanic or carpenter or anything. I have a dexterity disability in my right hand, and just recently got the arc. It might be confirmation bias but I think the one-hand operation and premium materials are well worth the price. I'm tempted to get a Surge to put in a portable toolkit I keep in the car though. When next to the other tools there is a pretty clear difference in size and it seems like a very durable and reliable tool.
Should come with a sheath at this price.
I agree, that would have been a nice addition, and would make the price feel slightly more justified
I really wanna upgrade drom my Wave + to either the Arc or Surge but cant justify it cause Wave meets my needs so well
I wouldn’t necessarily call the surge an “upgrade”, it’s just a bigger platform if you need a more robust tool. The Arc on the other hand I would consider an upgrade, but if blade steel and one hand operation aren’t a priority, there’s definitely nothing wrong with the wave plus. It’s still an excellent tool!
The parcel hook is great for a bail on a camp pot so you don't get burned taking it off the fire. Also the awl has an eye so you can use some cord to patch up a rucksack, tent, or boot well enough to get out of the woods.
Still the king 9 years in my pocket. I use the Serrated blade like an exacto knife when cutting heavy paper.
Just swap your straight and serrated blades 🤷🏼
I’m going to give that a shot, I assume it’s fairly straight forward.
Excellent review! Look forward to your content. Thanks!
Thank you, glad you enjoy!
Nice. Anxious for the next episode!
Do anyone else habe bladewobble although the screws are tight ?
Checkout my disassembly and maintenance video, I show how I tune the knife toward the end. If you give the method I use a shot it may help. If all screws are tight and there’s still play, sometimes a scale could be shifted slightly, among other possibilities. Hopefully that helps out a bit! Mine occasionally develops play, but it’s easily removed with a slight turn of the pivot screw
7:05 - LM grinds have been really crap for a while now indeed, every single product ive gotten from them the last few years have come with huge burrs on the edge and such. Its kind of annoying having to resharpen a knife blade as it comes out of the box. But for the sake of fairness, the recurve is intended though the assymetrical edge is not. I thought it was at first, then I compared 2 of these and theres no consistency between the same product even. One was asymetrical, the other was symmetrical but had a much higher grind angle.
Thanks for the info!
unscrew the flipper tab
How do we know you use it a lot? looks new, cheap scales and all.
well done, still don't like the Blde
Robust, Precise and Reliable 👍
Thanks!
@@fo727 thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the project!
Yay Common Man!
What was the glue you used?
I used PL Premium 3x
Let’s go!!
Not important for me at all
looks like blade is different shape from a g10 version...so much for that idea😂
Haha dang.. I have heard they aren’t interchangeable but never tried myself.. good to know!
I bought a wave plus and just a few days later I said screw and pulled the trigger on the arc which was kind of dumb I should of just bought it in the first place but man I don't regret it one bit. Fully one handed operational is the biggest thing for me. The only thing i wish they did better were the scissors. Not size wise but performance wise. I carried my Swiss army compact for years & their scissors are just incredible. Sharpest scissors out there in my opinion. Other than that the arc is pretty much perfect in my opinion. Worth every penny. Nice review btw brother. Gained a new subscriber 💯
Thanks for the sub! And I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I agree about the scissors, the arc’s are adequate, but not the same quality as Victorinox, they are still the clear winner on scissors!
I love this knife, and the fit and finish are amazing, no matter who’s name is on it. Another “Spyderco “ winner. Great review, keep em coming please……………..
Thanks! I agree, just a great knife
I agree with everything you have said. Except you missed one other thing. It's USA made. That also affects the price. Great review. Keep it up.
Thanks for pointing that out! Very big thing to consider. I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
More boat, more boat, more boat video! Love ya nephew!
Coming soon!
1. Blade grind 2. Materials 3. Lock type 4. Maker 5. Blade finish For me, "fidget factor" is generally the product of tight tolerances and great machining. If anything, i find the gimmick locks to be _less_ fidgety because of the light detent inherent to a lot of the designs. Edit: opening method is probably in there somewhere too, but as long as its not front flipper only or doesn't have all the opening methods shoehorned in then its not a huge priority.
did you really just loosened it and tried to sell it
I haven’t modified or adjusted anything, it’s just the way it came. Tuned perfectly
A lot of knives that swing like that. Part of the design for easier open and close
7 out of 10
I expected better sissors with the price id pay for my arc. And more better support for spare bits. Wire cutters, im afraid to use them now with all the fails out there.
i sharpen my ozark trail folder with my leatherman arc...i really do lol
Haha I love it!
i want a ruler on my arc! also i cut down a little bush that had thick roots with the saw lol...yeah im gonna beat this tool, get that moneyz worth lol😭
Are the scissors any good though? I've never had good scissors on a Leatherman, esp compared to Victorinox: lol there's no comparison!
They’ve held up great for what I’ve used them for (paper, thin plastic, zip ties, fingernails, etc..). I will say, they don’t seem as precise, or sharp as scissors on my various Victorinox tools. I do think Victorinox takes the win for scissor quality
How durable are the bits when used in real world situations. Is it soft steel as others describe ?
They’ve been plenty durable for what I’ve used them for, that being said I don’t expect them to be as durable as a dedicated full shank screwdriver
yes, For what they are, they are great. I recommend a bit extender and a double end bits
Hello buddy would you mind doing a update video of your leatherman surge do you still use it do you still like it and would you say it's better than the wave ? Thanks buddy 👍
Great video suggestion!
The leatherman surge is still king 👑
I have been carrying an ARK for about 6 months now and a P2 and P4 before that. The one handed use is a game changer plus the tools are quality. I have modified all of these tools to make them even better. I'll make a video within the next couple of weeks since I am overdue for my long term review. Ohh and I did add a long bit to the ARK. That alone is a killer mod.
I’ll keep an eye out for that video!
Love the concept and looking forward to the gen 2 but for the price there’s to many issues with it, for now I’m going with the roxon flex for half the price
Still want to check out the flex!
My engineer brain refuses to let me believe you'll ever see a difference (in edge retention or toughness) between 420hc and Magnacut in a blade thats 40 thou BTE.
I would think the same thing.. I can definitely say I see the difference
I use to cut a lot of packaging material ( I was in shipping and receiving) the Charge also held up between sharpening more than the Wave.
I have had on my hip since Christmas when my wife gave it too me. Switched over from a Surge. Honestly it impresses me every day. Thank you for your video
Thanks for watching!
To be honest, love Spyderco but this knife is just a Lionsteel knife with a Spyderco logo on it. Not a big fan of Lionsteel and Italian folders by experience. That’s why I would never expect Spyderco fit and finish or anything else what makes Spyderco great on this knife. This is common sense. Maybe for a collector nice but if you use knives I would not buy this knife but a “real” Spyderco.
Awesome!!! Spyderco is my favorite knife brand.
Definitely a favorite of mine as well!
Mod the wave with the scissors and T shank adapter from the Surge?..... happy days.
Not a bad suggestion!
@@The_commonman it isn't, but I'd have to buy a black surge to see if possible. Erk!
It's a sleeper for sure!
👍🏼👍🏼
I've carried a Surge for over 10 years... for me there is no substitute or alternative. I added an aftermarket pocket clip which completely solves the weight/pocket carry issues I had.
I got a skiff fingerbit and its makes free spinning pivots so much easier/comfortable. Just got an iron mutt today, likin it so far!
Have that exact one in my hands right now and just ordered the aluminum scale model yesterday, Its one of my favorite knives ive owned
I love my Wave+ but I’ve been looking at the new ARC I might jump and get that soon.
I like the action and build of the Deka better than the bugout but I have found it hard to get a sharp edge on the Magnacut where as benchmade’s s30v get extremely sharp easily.
