Very happy with the amount of Wallace love in this video, one of my favorite things in this move (apart from visuals, many other scenes, and the entire movie) is when Wallace texts Stacy while seemingly sleeping

With how popular nerd culture is now I can say that this movie would 100% be a success if was released today the reason it failed was due to the studio not knowing its target demographic
Nerd culture was popular all throughout the 2010s. The reason the film wasn't a big hit in it's initial release is because it's source material (the comic) wasn't popular back then. Teen Wolf, TVD, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Twilight, Harry Potter, Spiderman, Prince of Persia,(even though it underperformed it still grossed more than Scott Pilgrim) for the most part were financial hits based on nerd culture (everything from video games, novels, comics, and old cult classics). The majority of successful films happen when multiple demographics go out to support a film. And that's more likely to happen if the film is an adaptation of something that has a large preexisting fanbase (which at the time the comic did not have). That's often the major difference between breaking even/underperforming or being a massive financial success. If this film was released today in theaters, it still wouldn't have been a hit. It would flop, go to streaming, and then it would eventually become a hit (with people saying how did I miss this). Kind of like it is received currently. Basically, this film is the equivalent of A24 films where most of them aren't initially massive money makers but they gain critical acclaim and gain most of their money and audience once they go to digital and bluray. You also might want to compare it to the modern streaming success of The Boys and Invincible. Had these shows been released as movies in the theater before their recent success, they most likely would have flopped because the shows' source material wasn't popular with the mainstream audience. However, now that people love the shows, new interest in their respective comics has increased. Ultimately, most people are more willing to give an unfamiliar television/streaming project a chance than an unknown theatrical release.
i mean ‘failed’ is a relative term a lot of people love it and talk about it to this day, black sheep was big on tik tok like a year ago or so…despite maybe not making that much initially I think it’s very successful in many regards
I’ve seen that though it feels like weird logic cuz for comics, obviously you ain’t gonna see people blink in a fricking book of any kind. Video game wise, I’m actually not sure, I could see that but I’m not sure
Spoilers: One thing to note is that Stephen Stills was also a gay character with a crush on Scott, which explains a lot of his behaviour in the movie. It hadn't been revealed in the comic yet at time of filming, but the author told the actor, and you can really see it in the way he portrays him. It's a nice contrast to the hypersexual-gay Wallace. Also, Wallace is the best part of this movie, hands down.
Me too. Not only hilarious but to anyone who gets the reference is prolly someone I'd find a cool guy anyways, so win-win really 😹 it's a multi use phrase that literally gives us a mini character Study of hilarity 🤷🏼♀️ just great all the way around 🧡🦇
Wallace was My big homosexual awakening. As hilarious as it sounds, seeing a guy be so comfortable in his sexuality made me go I no longer feel so ashamed
Scott deals with his problems by ignoring them. He finds comfort in others and without it he just resorts to wallowing in self pity. He doesn't like change. Ramona however deals with her problems by running away from them. She's afraid of herself and the negative effect she has on others. That's why she changes her hair and style so much throughout the movie and the books. This is also why she dumps everyone she's ever been with. Scott and Ramona contrast each other so much but that's why they work well together. They make each other want to be better and to fix these issues in order to grow. It goes much further in depth in the books and I highly recommend them.
The marketing really did screw this movie over BADLY. I have a core memory of seeing a trailer for it and thinking "good lord that looks cringe and tryhard, I'm NEVER watching it". Most of the time the worst reaction I have to a trailer is "eh I'm indifferent" or "that doesn't look like it's for me"; this was the ONLY time in my life that a trailer made me NOT want to watch a movie, which is hilarious cuz it's now one of my favorite movies
I should've used some of the trailer footage in the video to back up my point because yeah... It's surprising how good the reception was, but how terrible the marketing was. I don't know if you know anything about the recent movie "Strange World" but these are both proof that marketing alone can kill a film before its even out.
Not quite the same but the killing movies based off marketing also applies to major studios like Disney. When they intentionally sabotauged Treasure Planet to market Lilo and Stitch because they were tired of the directors pitching the movie.
I love how the movie ended. In the deleted scenes there was an alternate ending where scott ends up with knives and it was definitely the better decision that he ends up with ramona because they are meant for each other, both are bad people especially to their ex spouses.
In the comics both Scott and Ramona are even worse people, like, Lucas Lee is a surprisingly ok dude and is perfectly willing to explain how everything works to Scott and even tell everyone that Scott beat him, but Scott's sheer assholery makes him change his mind. In the comics Scott also becomes a better person by the end And Wallace moves in with a guy that knows magic The comic's writer hadn't actually finished the comic before the movie was made, and so he wasn't sure if Scott would end up with Knives or Ramona, so the Movie made two different end scenes (you can find the alternative Knives ending on UA-cam) and after watching how they each played out only then did the writer decide which ending he wanted for the comic You should really read the comics, they're fantastic!
Oh wow that’s interesting! I wish I touched on it in the video now. There’s a lot more I wish I did but the video was 36 minutes long so I had to cut some stuff out as it was 😭
@@hikeilokei @HiKeiLoKei not to spoil the ending of the comic too much but Envy does end up coming back in the last book also. I also think the movie missed a beat not giving her a conclusion but I understand there wasn't room for her in the finale.
@@matth2283thé comics take place over the course of multiple months to maybe a year so it’s brought up that Knives is 18. The Movie just makes it look like it spans across 2 weeks.
the first bit of scott pilgrim i ever saw was the vegan scene and it was so funny I thought about it for years until I actually sat down to watch the whole movie and obviously I loved it
Wallace is a real one. Get yourself a friend like Wallace Also you missed the chance to put the “she so fine she done pissin me off” video over Kim lmao
4:33 I concur: the opening IS very special and a GREAT example of the personality behind the film's special effects: if you actually pay attention to all the actor's title cards there are little hints and foreshadowing to their characters by the way of the animated symbols appearing on screen, even down to the colour coding. I've watched this movie so many times and only recently on a rewatch I picked up on it. SUPER cool just added another layer to how much I adore this film.
Something interesting to note is that the movie and the graphic novels were being written at the same time, almost like Akira. Initially, the plan was to have Scott end up with Knives at the end, and you can see evidence of that in the movie. But I’m glad they went the ending they did. Knives not taking Scott back shows growth on both of their parts.
i love rewatching this movie because there's always some new little details to catch each time. i swear i've seen this at least 15 times and it's still as fun as the first time. it has awesome visuals, editing, camera work and line deliveries - awesome everything (except the not-so-awesome and problematic aspects).
a lot of the more confusing stuff is explained way better in the graphic novels and things are generally way more fleshed out like Scott and Ramona's relationship lasting way longer and them being a whole ass normal couple hanging out with Scott's friends going on multiple dates cuddling each other and being all lovey LIVING TOGETHER and having a pet cat that they take care of (named Gideon) been a bit since a read them but in total I'm pretty sure Scott and Ramona are together for like a year before she disappears which happens way different in the graphic novel cause instead of having a dumb ass fight where Scott acts like an asshole she's just kinda gone one day and Scott doesn't find out where she is for like a solid week and in that time he has a heart to heart talk with Kim and remembers all the shitty stuff he did to her (cause Gideon fucked with his mind and made him forget) and he apologizes. There was also just a ton left out like Knives dad literally being a ninja and him and Scott having a huge fight in the mall anywaaays go read the graphic novels they're not that long and you get way more context to everything so seriously go read them and you'll appreciate the story even more. Also at first I thought the joke about fighting Superman at the beginning was because Scott actually does fight Superman since the actor for Todd played Superman but there was sadly no reference to it in the video after that so I'm gonna assume it was a coincidence.
@@hikeilokei You should they're great! You get a lot more context to everything cause there's just much more time to flesh everything out over 6 books rather than one short movie. The main thing that changes between the graphic novels and the movie is how all the characters are portrayed like Scott is a bit of an idiot savant along the lines of Goku in the novels where his mistakes are him just being dumb and not really seeing the issue while he comes off as mean spirited in the movie.
I really appreciate you saying that! This is absolutely something I love doing. If you have others who you know like content like this please feel free to share ( but don't feel pressured!) Liking and subbing also let UA-cam know you liked it! Thank you so much! Have a great day :)
I kinda feel like the exponentially increasing pace is supposed to mirror the whole video game element, how at the start it’s like tutorials and slow levels/exposition, and closer to the final boss it becomes more and more chaotic and fast
my favorite thing about this movie (and other egdar wright movies) are all the background jokes. my favorite one is at 7:13 when scott first tries flirting with ramona, theres a light switch wayyyyy out of reach thats turned off.......because scott cant turn ramona on. its a small, easy to miss detail, but when you rewatch it knowing its there it just makes it that much better. and the movie is littered with them. just watch it again and see how many you can find, its great.

When you said you didn't know Amazon existed in 2010, I immediately understood what my older brother said when he felt so far removed from my younger brother. They are 10 years apart and I see now that matters. I'm 30 and graduated high school in 2010. That was during peak internet culture, so of course Amazon existed. I feel ancient now. ... But this is my favorite movie so at least you have S tier taste for a wee child.
First time I've gotten called a "Wee Child' but I'll take it with honor! Also, everyone in my comments on TikTok is telling me they've known amazon was around for years and I feel so dumb now lmao. But I think amazon did become a lot more popular in the last decade or so thanks to Amazon Prime. I was also 8 years old in 2010, so it does make sense I wouldn't be aware of it at that time lol.

Fun trivia! They don’t die when they lose, they respawn back at their house in America, so free airfare lol Great video dude ❤ Edit: I also wanna add that you had to have been there at the time but this movie had REALLY bad marketing. Like I knew an entire group of people who absolutely loved it when they were forced to watch it (because the movie they wanted was sold out) but weren’t interested because the marketing was so bad and cringy. They barely mentioned Edgar Wright in any of the promos (and Shaun of the Dead was having a resurgence at the time.) Just all over Universal fumbled so hard.
Also, I was at San Diego Comic Con during its release, and they legit just gave away free "tickets" (tokens) to see it but me and my sister got in without a token. And then after seeing it, I saw the promos and yikes lol
I showed my roommate the movie last night, like you I had never caught the kung pao chicken line. I try not to laugh at casual racism but man we were dying at that
That was genius. Your pacing and transitions were completely on par with the movie. I was not prepared for a so on-point, fun, and engaging. It is so rare that I get so invested the first time I experience a creator. Thank you for such an awesome .breakdown
as a polyamorous gay, wallace and his boys are actually pretty good representation wise. the only bad thing is his stealing of the sisters dates, which is extra messed up because being in a non monogamous relationship means youre literally free to see other people with consent. 'stealing' is extra fucked up also 3 people is NOT an orgy. theyre called threesomes for a reason 😌
Saw your video in my feed then rewatched this video on Netflix. I knew a guy who said this was his favorite movie, and I still can’t blame him. Kim is so pretty bro her smiling is such a highlight of the entire thing. Cheers.
Dunno if anyone mentioned this yet but throughout the movie, scotts shirts have a lot of references and key points to the film. Like when his shirt says zero when fighting Todd, it's referring to him feeling like he's a completely loser in Envy's eyes.
I randomly stumbled across the comics in a school book sale and immediately got hooked, partially because I was surprised it was considered appropriate for kids lol even though the movie didn’t do so well financially, I’m so glad it exists so that I could find it much later in its life and will never forget how iconically unique it is
I'm curious if the subspace highway is a reference to FLCL, Haruko (older woman) is only interested in Naota (actual young boy) because his head works as a subspace gate. I love howScott and Ramona both have a legacy of being toxic in relationships, but to get together, they both have to grow.
this is one of my all-time favourite movies! i was 13 when it came out, and i had never heard of the comics until my friend got obsessed with them. she dragged me to the theater without giving me any context, and i spent most of the movie turning to her going "WHAT?". i was having a blast, though! it's one of my favourite childhood memories and i still love the movie a lot. not just for the nostalgia, it's just a damn good movie as you've clearly demonstrated this is my first video of yours, and i gotta say you are hilarious. i didn't multi-task like i do with most long-form videos, your energy keeps my adhd brain hooked. you're great at this, wishing you the best in your youtube endeavors! definitely subbed!
Thank you! Keeping the pacing up is something I've been working on a lot because my average retention was like 3% on my earlier commentaries, but I've tried (and seemingly succeeded) to keep everything interesting!
I was a sophomore in college when this came out. Saw it on a whim because I had a day off from work and the trailer looked funny. Had a blast and I still watch it to this day.
at 12:46 im p sure the reason he says he'll tell ramona is because he knows scott values ramona's opinion of him more than knives. also because knives is a love struck, easy to manipulate teenager so if scott came up with some excuse she might just take it
So glad I found this video, it's such a great commentary on one of my favorite movies of all time,,, it's usually really hard for me to be engaged in watching a movie from start to finish, especially live action ones because they can be pretty boring for me sometimes in terms of visuals, but this movie does such an amazing job with the pacing, action, writing and visual style that it's one of the only movies I actually enjoy enough to go back to rewatch on a regular basis,,, Also, I wanted to point out one of my favorite references in this movie, when during the Battle of the Bands thing at the Rockit, Scott was wearing a Plumtree t-shirt, which if i remember correctly, was probably meant to be a reference to the band Plumtree, who made a song called "Scott Pilgrim". One of my favorite details and I didn't even notice it until recently ! I love movies like that, which put so much care into putting in tiny details and references where you'd least expect them,,,,
So the last book hadn't been written and the 6th book was only freshly written when they were adapting/filming. So that's why the Twins got almost no screen time and were the most different from their written characters, and why Knives seems like the final girl until the end, since Wright intended for it to go that route until OMalley wrote the last book and had Ramona be the final girl.
For me this movie is about relationships and getting over heartbreaks. I have had times where girls would bring up certain aspects of their exes they liked (more) and to be honest I also had similar thoughts. In the beginning of a relationship we all are subconsciously fighting those aspects of those exes in their mind, with the things we do, make breakfast, get nicer presents, be more thoughtful, play better music, have stronger convictions, etc. In if you do the right things for the right reasons you may even end up becoming a new better person. Getting a life is like when you break up or mess something up and then fight to prove that you truly have changed This movie just brought all thought fights in such a creative way, it is my top 10 all time movie and Edgar Wright's best for me.
I loved this video :) Also one of times I was watching this at home a giant thunderclap occurred outside right at 16:35 and I almost had a heart attack because it was so loud and I thought it was the movie.

this is why Scott Pilgrim is one of my favourite movies: everything i wanted to happen, happened. all those comic texts on screen popping up to accompany the character dialogue, the immediate cuts in the character reacting to what someone else said, the white dialogue, the physical comedy everything was perfect
I read the comics as they came out cause I’m old. I saw the movie in theaters a few times and once with Edgar Wright doing a Q&A. It was awesome. The best part of the movies though is that the cartoons and art in the film were all done by Brian Lee O’Malley! It also makes sense that the movie script took so long considering that the last book was published about 1 month before the movie was released.
In the comics, it's revealed that she dated the Katayanagi Twins at the same time by cheating on them with each other. Also, my (bi-sexual) ex-wife used to quote the "bi-furious" thing.
“It’s very clear that this movie isn’t really supposed to take place in the real world” Obviously yeah, they literally said it’s set in some place called “Canada” (fr tho never come across your channel before and definitely subscribed! loved this)
I only ever had two major criticisms of this movie: first I wish they had used someone unknown for Scott rather than Michael Cera, and second that when Matthew Patel gets hit by Scott’s reversal in the comics Kim says, “Doesn’t he know that Scott is the best fighter in the province?” And I wanted it in there just as a quick explanation for his fighting prowess. Though I do wish this movie was a miniseries to cover everything that I loved in the comics.
my favourite detail from this movie is when scott first talks to ramona at the party, you can see a light switch way up on the wall, which edgar wright confirmed is to represent how scott can’t turn her on 🤣
I just started watch Kei’s videos and was honestly shocked to see this hair style after watching all his recent videos. Like I only knew him with the new look and seeing this look was jarring at first lol.
I must seem old now because I saw this when I was 15 lol. It is one of my favorite movies and I get shit for it because I can quote most of it verbatim by this point. This is also coming from someone who has no real loyalty to video games (I grew up in a no video game household for the most part). The movie was, and is still, one of the move creative and fun things to be put on the big screen. There really hasn’t been anything else like it since.
In the comics, one of the final scenes is Stephen coming out to Scott revealing he's been dating a character scrapped from the movie for the majority of the previous volume and the entirety of the final volume
If I remember correctly then at the end of the film it is hinted at Ramona and Scott would sleep together at the end of the film if I remember correctly. With the door and everything.
Wallace and Kim are honestly the best!! I saw this movie in the cinema when it came out, I think it was 2011 in my country.. but the thing is as it was marketed as a comic inspired movie not a lot of people who go to the cinema were hyped for it. Edgar Wright has always been a more obscure name, and comic inspired movies weren’t that popular yet, it was before the golden age of MCU. actually I think this came out somewhere in the middle of phase 1, when people were just starting to discover the MCU. before the MCU we had comic book movies but they were often a hit or miss, and there wasn’t that big of an audience for them. sure there the idk Sony Spiderman movies but those were more of an exception of being popular title. also thank you for clearing up the subspace highway thing, I was never really sure if Ramona was joking or not, but now it makes more sense how she used “the door” to get home

I can't even imagine seeing it as a child lmao
@@hikeilokei you’re literally just confused
It’s so terrible she went out like that but the alternative would’ve been sliced in half and exploding into woodland creatures infront of Knives Dad
Not a lot of great options huh...
This video is literally how I learned this little fun fact lol
after seeing this movie i’ve called myself bi-furious more times than im willing to admit
It happens to the best of us. I probably would've done it if I watched this movie when I was younger if I'm being honest.
Me too. Not only hilarious but to anyone who gets the reference is prolly someone I'd find a cool guy anyways, so win-win really 😹 it's a multi use phrase that literally gives us a mini character Study of hilarity 🤷🏼♀️ just great all the way around
🧡🦇
Roxy gets all the best lines. Even when she's screwing them up they're hilarious.
Wallace was My big homosexual awakening. As hilarious as it sounds, seeing a guy be so comfortable in his sexuality made me go I no longer feel so ashamed
Scott Pilgrim is a weird way to find out your gay. But if it works it works!
Cringe
@@divinevil A little but im fine with it
That's awesome dude
Fuck yeah dude! Honestly awakenings come from the weirdest places lol
That's a really great observation!
God I've read the comic a time and a half now and I couldn't put this into words thank you!!!!
@@hikeilokeiretard
WHO scott?? in black history month??
I love how the movie ended. In the deleted scenes there was an alternate ending where scott ends up with knives and it was definitely the better decision that he ends up with ramona because they are meant for each other, both are bad people especially to their ex spouses.
Everyone in the film is a bad person save Young Neil.
He just (also) lives there.
In the comics both Scott and Ramona are even worse people, like, Lucas Lee is a surprisingly ok dude and is perfectly willing to explain how everything works to Scott and even tell everyone that Scott beat him, but Scott's sheer assholery makes him change his mind.
In the comics Scott also becomes a better person by the end
And Wallace moves in with a guy that knows magic
The comic's writer hadn't actually finished the comic before the movie was made, and so he wasn't sure if Scott would end up with Knives or Ramona, so the Movie made two different end scenes (you can find the alternative Knives ending on UA-cam) and after watching how they each played out only then did the writer decide which ending he wanted for the comic
You should really read the comics, they're fantastic!
@@mrgtoyz I like the end of her plot. It makes sense with the evolution of Scott.
Ain't no way the comic creator genuinely thought about Scott ending up with knives... she is 17 ffs
@@matth2283thé comics take place over the course of multiple months to maybe a year so it’s brought up that Knives is 18. The Movie just makes it look like it spans across 2 weeks.
the first bit of scott pilgrim i ever saw was the vegan scene and it was so funny I thought about it for years until I actually sat down to watch the whole movie and obviously I loved it
This movie has so many good bits. My favorite is the when Scott Jumps out of the window. Still sad I couldn't get the full clip past copyright :(
Wallace is a real one. Get yourself a friend like Wallace
Also you missed the chance to put the “she so fine she done pissin me off” video over Kim lmao
LMAO THATS ACTUALLY SUCH A GOOD IDEAD DAMMIT
All my homies love and respect Wallace
I kept referring to him in my mind as "the gay voice of confidence"
They hid a lot of details in this movie!
If I had a nickel for everytime Mae Whitman played a lesbian I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice right

Saw a clip of this on TikTok and so glad I stumbled across it! Your humor and delivery is amazing, keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for the kind comment! So happy you thought it was good!!
a lot of the more confusing stuff is explained way better in the graphic novels and things are generally way more fleshed out like Scott and Ramona's relationship lasting way longer and them being a whole ass normal couple hanging out with Scott's friends going on multiple dates cuddling each other and being all lovey LIVING TOGETHER and having a pet cat that they take care of (named Gideon) been a bit since a read them but in total I'm pretty sure Scott and Ramona are together for like a year before she disappears which happens way different in the graphic novel cause instead of having a dumb ass fight where Scott acts like an asshole she's just kinda gone one day and Scott doesn't find out where she is for like a solid week and in that time he has a heart to heart talk with Kim and remembers all the shitty stuff he did to her (cause Gideon fucked with his mind and made him forget) and he apologizes.
Just wanted to say I appreciate how detailed your comment is. I really wanna read the comics now!
@@hikeilokei You should they're great! You get a lot more context to everything cause there's just much more time to flesh everything out over 6 books rather than one short movie. The main thing that changes between the graphic novels and the movie is how all the characters are portrayed like Scott is a bit of an idiot savant along the lines of Goku in the novels where his mistakes are him just being dumb and not really seeing the issue while he comes off as mean spirited in the movie.
yeah!! and i love that the comics also show growth within knives where she realizes that she's way too good for scott and she lets him go
The actor who played Matthew Patel UNDERSTOOD the assignment 👏
Satya Bhabha is his name! And he got so into the role!
As a bisexual, I absolutely quote that all the time
It is a banger line
obsessed with the scott slander and wallace appreciation (based) (did I use that right)
This is such an underrated video, the narration, the details, the humor, the ENTERTAINMENT??!? Honestly I hope you get big fr you deserve it :)))
That’s actually an interesting way of thinking about it!
You didn't mention this but during the "flashback" in the first evil ex fight they used the original artstyle from the Scott pilgrim graphic novel!
Sorry not a criticism or anything I actually enjoyed the video either way keep it up!
my favorite thing about this movie (and other egdar wright movies) are all the background jokes. my favorite one is at 7:13 when scott first tries flirting with ramona, theres a light switch wayyyyy out of reach thats turned off.......because scott cant turn ramona on. its a small, easy to miss detail, but when you rewatch it knowing its there it just makes it that much better. and the movie is littered with them. just watch it again and see how many you can find, its great.
"We joined because Ramona cheated us us" - Ken
"The two timing sl×t" -Kyle
"She played us against each other" - Ken
That's what the Katayanagi twinssay in Scott Pilgrim VS. The Universe
@@hikeilokei That's true. Prime BOOMED in the years since, so the Amazon of 2010 was nothing like what it is today. And yes, wear your youth with honor! lol Glad you took that well, I didn't mean any actual offense. 😆 Definitely subscribed. 🙌
@@hikeilokei lol same I mean I thought it became a thing in like 2012
Idk if you knew this but the actor who played Scott's roommate Wallace (Kieran Culkin) is the brother of the Home Alone kid (Macaulay Culkin)
I actually did find that out when writing the video! Pretty interesting fact imo
It came out the same weekend as the Expendables and Eat, Pray , Love, and most people didn't even really know what it was. It was and is such a unique movie, the way it incorporated video game nostalgia was awesome.
After watching this, immediately binge Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It's best watched after Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
Came over from TikTok after seeing a clip of this video and now I can’t wait to see how far you go in your UA-cam career! Good luck and keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much!!
i watched this movie with my dad when it came out in cinema (i was like 3 at the time) and it (along with the comics) shaped like so much of my life, Mae Whitman definitely awakened something
Daaamn you were 3??? I was 13 in 2010 and Mae Whitman was FOR REAL the start of something lol
I literally just watched Scott Pilgrim vs the world for the first time the other day and it has quickly become one of my favorite movies ive ever watched
Fun trivia! They don’t die when they lose, they respawn back at their house in America, so free airfare lol Great video dude ❤
Edit: I also wanna add that you had to have been there at the time but this movie had REALLY bad marketing.
Oh that’s cool! I didn’t know they were all American lol.
And yeah the marketing was so weird for this film.
@@hikeilokei Yeah, Ramona and all the exes are American. The rest of the cast’s characters are all Canadian.
Also, I was at San Diego Comic Con during its release, and they legit just gave away free "tickets" (tokens) to see it but me and my sister got in without a token. And then after seeing it, I saw the promos and yikes lol
Cue “Scott Pilgrim ruined an entire generation of women”
I don't know if this is a joke I'm not aware of, but I did actually get a comment on this video saying that lmao.
I showed my roommate the movie last night, like you I had never caught the kung pao chicken line. I try not to laugh at casual racism but man we were dying at that
Nah it was funny, I just never noticed how often they did it. But the line delivery and timing were both perfect
Not even done with the video but this is literally my favorite SP video, everything to the commentary and humor to the editing was perfect
That was genius. Your pacing and transitions were completely on par with the movie. I was not prepared for a so on-point, fun, and engaging. It is so rare that I get so invested the first time I experience a creator. Thank you for such an awesome .breakdown
Thank you!
as a polyamorous gay, wallace and his boys are actually pretty good representation wise. the only bad thing is his stealing of the sisters dates, which is extra messed up because being in a non monogamous relationship means youre literally free to see other people with consent. 'stealing' is extra fucked up
also 3 people is NOT an orgy. theyre called threesomes for a reason 😌
Saw your video in my feed then rewatched this video on Netflix. I knew a guy who said this was his favorite movie, and I still can’t blame him. Kim is so pretty bro her smiling is such a highlight of the entire thing. Cheers.
I saw this in theaters when I was a teen and I’m so so happy that people are still discovering it. I still love it!
Dunno if anyone mentioned this yet but throughout the movie, scotts shirts have a lot of references and key points to the film. Like when his shirt says zero when fighting Todd, it's referring to him feeling like he's a completely loser in Envy's eyes.
Brie actually did the song to Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus which coincidentally is a Canadian movie!
Brie is just drawn to Canada, I see.
I literally watched Scott Pilgrim ten times back to back with no breaks one day. Such a fantastic movie.
Another awesome video from the most underrated UA-camr!
Always great seeing you in my comments, V!
It really is a ridiculously awesome movie, and deserves to have done better at the box office.
Important to note that when the exes turn into coins they don't die, they wake up in their bed having learned their lesson
Just found this video, good timing too. You did this so much justice
It’s hard to mess up a video on something this easy to comment on! Such a great film.
I randomly stumbled across the comics in a school book sale and immediately got hooked, partially because I was surprised it was considered appropriate for kids lol
even though the movie didn’t do so well financially, I’m so glad it exists so that I could find it much later in its life and will never forget how iconically unique it is
I'm curious if the subspace highway is a reference to FLCL, Haruko (older woman) is only interested in Naota (actual young boy) because his head works as a subspace gate. I love howScott and Ramona both have a legacy of being toxic in relationships, but to get together, they both have to grow.
It's honestly one of my favorite movies of all time, it has such a unique feel to it, especially for its time
this vid is so funny dude and THANK YOU for explaining the subspace highway joke i never got it everytime ramona delivered that line
I didn't even get it either when I first watched it. I actually had to read the wiki to fully understand it lol
this is one of my all-time favourite movies! i was 13 when it came out, and i had never heard of the comics until my friend got obsessed with them. she dragged me to the theater without giving me any context, and i spent most of the movie turning to her going "WHAT?". i was having a blast, though! it's one of my favourite childhood memories and i still love the movie a lot. not just for the nostalgia, it's just a damn good movie as you've clearly demonstrated
this is my first video of yours, and i gotta say you are hilarious. i didn't multi-task like i do with most long-form videos, your energy keeps my adhd brain hooked. you're great at this, wishing you the best in your youtube endeavors! definitely subbed!
Had a blast and I still watch it to this day.
at 12:46 im p sure the reason he says he'll tell ramona is because he knows scott values ramona's opinion of him more than knives. also because knives is a love struck, easy to manipulate teenager so if scott came up with some excuse she might just take it
I never thought of it that way! That's good reasoning!
The alternate ending to the movie is quite amusing itself with the whole hero's journey bit and then the different conclusion in itself.
So glad I found this video, it's such a great commentary on one of my favorite movies of all time,,, it's usually really hard for me to be engaged in watching a movie from start to finish, especially live action ones because they can be pretty boring for me sometimes in terms of visuals, but this movie does such an amazing job with the pacing, action, writing and visual style that it's one of the only movies I actually enjoy enough to go back to rewatch on a regular basis,,,
Also, I wanted to point out one of my favorite references in this movie, when during the Battle of the Bands thing at the Rockit, Scott was wearing a Plumtree t-shirt, which if i remember correctly, was probably meant to be a reference to the band Plumtree, who made a song called "Scott Pilgrim".
Saw your mini clip of this on TikTok, so glad I came to the full video. Your commentary is great please keep it up!

THANK YOU! I appreciate your comments! Hope you like and share as well to help me reach my goal! But I am so grateful for all your support!
Getting a life is like when you break up or mess something up and then fight to prove that you truly have changed
This movie just brought all thought fights in such a creative way, it is my top 10 all time movie and Edgar Wright's best for me.
"Come home Chris, the kids miss you" is by far the funniest thing I've ever heard
I loved this video :) Also one of times I was watching this at home a giant thunderclap occurred outside right at 16:35 and I almost had a heart attack because it was so loud and I thought it was the movie.

"You dont question any of it" dude I looked up whether scott was insane or it was happening in the real world like 5 times while watching the movie
This is a very well done video, Nice job!
Glad to see it's getting views.
Thanks! It’s been getting more views than pretty much all my other stuff and I’m happy about that!
“It’s very clear that this movie isn’t really supposed to take place in the real world”
Obviously yeah, they literally said it’s set in some place called “Canada”
(fr tho never come across your channel before and definitely subscribed! loved this)
One of my favorite movies of all time. Now I gotta watch it again
It is always worth the 2 hours worth of time it takes to watch Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
I only ever had two major criticisms of this movie: first I wish they had used someone unknown for Scott rather than Michael Cera, and second that when Matthew Patel gets hit by Scott’s reversal in the comics Kim says, “Doesn’t he know that Scott is the best fighter in the province?” And I wanted it in there just as a quick explanation for his fighting prowess.
A lot of Edgar Wrights comedies are as enjoyable as this! If you’re looking for something to scratch that itch, check out Shaun of the Dead!
