Ahhh six blade knife, the great mataphor for his guitar and his obsession with it. Truly one of the coolest tracks ever recorded. It was used to brilliant effect in the 1995 movie "desperado".
The whole album is an absolute gem…
Southbound Again was a great song, love that sound. I think this was a band that many people neglected other than their radio hits. Enjoyed your reaction. Here’s a partial list of some of Mark’s guitars:
1962 Hofner Super Solid V2. ...
1959 Gibson Les Paul Special Doublecut. ...
1961 Fender Stratocaster. ...
1962 Fender Stratocaster. ...
1969 Fender Telecaster Thinline. ...
1980 Schecter Stratocaster Red. ...
1980 Schecter Stratocaster Sunburst. ...
1984 Schecter Telecaster.
It seems you forgot his most famous ones: 1958 Les Paul,
Pensa MK1, Fender Strat Signature, National Steel or Martins 1936
Highly recommend the Alchemy live version of Sultan of swing 😉
🎸
Great song.
Thanks for reacting. ✌🏻
I'm going into this vid with hope this dude shows appreciation for six blade knife
If he dont then he's a one trick pony because the 2 other slow songs water of love / wild West end he just brushed off as ' alright' with a dismissive tone
If you don't like slow tempo music just be out with it instead of reacting to songs of legendary dire straits status and dismissing them as just ' OK' songs
Probably two of the weaker tracks on the album, but glad you're making your way through.
Your dad was weak
Six Blade Knife was not a weak song. It was a great, mellow-type blues song.
Hi, thank you for your reactions on dire straits. ‘Hope you’ll go all the way through their back catalogue.
One thing I would recommend for your next episode is to react to the album version of Sultans Of Swing and not to the video. They cut one verse and the whole end solo in this video.
If you want to react to another version of Sultans, prefer the Alchemy Live version at least. Just saying…
sounds good ill do that live version...thanks for the heads up
@@totallyradreactions5006 Definitely sultans of swing and telegraph road from alchemy live .....you are gonna love it!
Well On the first few albums he used Fender Stratocaster al lot and also Western guitars and a National Resonator guitar.
On later albums he start using many other guitars. Like Gibson Les Paul (Money for Nothing and Brothers in Arms) , Classical guitar Ramirez and Gibson nylon string Chet Atkins ("Love over gold"-"Private Investigations") and. Ovation (Live for "Man is to Strong").
Fenders became handbuild copies by Schecter. And later John Surh and Rudy Pensa developed a guitar for him what should be a hybride between a Stratocaster and a Les Paul. The Pensa-Suhr.
So when they got more successfull they started to use more variety of guitars.
Man you missed some beauties on this album, like Water of Love, Down to the waterline, and Wild West End
No sir...HAHA! I started out from the beginning track
I will be doing the entire album. Go check em out friend. loving this album too by the way.
If you're interested in some of the guitars Knopfler loves here's a great documentary about six of them that changed his life, narrated by his friend John Illsley ua-cam.com/video/27OT_FSWrIE/v-deo.html it's also good to see this one ua-cam.com/video/OG__SwkV3wg/v-deo.html
His friend John Illsley of course being Dire Straits' bass player. 🙂
Yes like Gilmour, Knopfler was mostly a strat man up until the Brothers in Arms album where he started using a LP on some songs for a crunchier sound. In latter years he's used custom made guitars from Pensa Suhr that combined the sound of a strat and LP as he found himself changing guitars too much in between songs.
And since 1996 he's been using his 58 and 59 LP dominantly
And don't forget his National Style O that famously features on the cover of the Brothers in Arms album!
I believe he also has a '57 Les Paul that he refers to as 'the dinosaur'.
@@jjc5407 that's Strat but 1954 the famous jurassic one ( you can see him play it on Shangri La live or some Notting Hillbillies songs
