The oaks have a charm as a bonsai. Exciting to see something typically so large and powerful in miniature form. Thanks for the inspiration Nigel!

Timely video Nigel. I’m almost ready to give my English Royal Oaks (from Tony’s Bonsai) their first repotting. Thanks, keep growing

I'm so eager to watch this tree's progress. Everything on the internet says "No! You cannot keep oaks in small pots!" but I collected quite a few acorns last fall, just for fun. Only 3 survive but fall will be here again before we know it! Worst case, they all die anyway. It's still a learning experience!

Those were quite the _tangle issues_ there, but you managed to get everything separated! The big root on the maller oak was incredible... bigger than the tree itself!
I hope the two Royal Oaks will have a good growing season this year!
My Trident Maple also didn't skip a beat even though I thought I took quite a bit off of the roots! Spring is coming quite quickly here 🌸

Hi Nigel, can we see some plant room updates? I’m especially curious about the Ta Prom Temple. What will you big building construction project for this summer? New Poly House Roof, Plant Room Shelving, something new?

Very informative root work. Pot and the trees go good together. Spring will bring out good growth and a strong root system.

Wow, I can't believe how big that root is on such a tiny tree! It looks like it's rectangular like the pot too!

Awesome vodeo! I just had a random acorn sprout in the same pot I have a couple Eastern Red Cedar saplings growing in. I transplanted it into its own pot and hope to grow it into something nice one day.
P.s. my wife says you're like the Bob Ross of bonsai 😁

Very nice. I think the small tree is actually thicker at the base than the large one.

Watching your root work gives me confidence for my own oaks next spring. It is interesting that they are among the first to start their spring push; here in Australia they are the last of my deciduous trees to wake up!

These are beautiful trees. I’m looking forward to these developing in the future. Thanks for the advice on pruning the tap roots in half. I have one year old white oak I have to repot soon, so that’s good advice to know!

That root was crazy! Never seen a root that much thicker than the trunk. Probably why the small tree is smaller, probably half the energy the leaves were generating was going towards that root, and not growth lol

Great vid Nigel ,I think finally this coming spring I’m gonna have a good go with my oaks , the clock is ticking, they are just starting to turn for their autumn colours , which must mean spring is on the way for you 👌, keep up the great work

Nice looking oaks. I am eager to see how they handle the root pruning. I have no success with oaks. I purchased root stock in the past and none survived. Same when I tried to transplant little oaks that grew from seed. Frustrating.

Hi Nigel! I always like seeing your root pruning videos. Just a comment on soil mixture. I have been watching your videos for years. I have been using your soil mixture Safety Sorb Pearlite Peat Pine Bark and Compost. The last few bags of Safety Sorb i got have very little useable material. I sifted the whole bag(lots of work) i noticed about 25% 1/8 inch, 40% 1/16 of an inch and the rest sand grit. Pearlite about the same, i was just wondering if you were still using this soil mixture, if not i would really like to see an update. I am thinking of trying another brand, just too much work for the little useable material i get out of it. Thanks!

Interesting that you are struggling a little with the oaks roots.... I wonder if that they are made out of oak has anything to do with it?! Lol. Enjoyed the video Nigel.
