Gidget Hrobowski Amen 🙏🏾 She Was Pure Royalty Indeed!! 💯
She was half white that's why she says so pretty
The Diana Krall of that era
What a wonderful character she was. To suppress someone from history is among the worst kind of assassination...Thanks for the video!! Hopefully it gets shared so that more people can discover her.
It's annoying how many of these people we don't hear about... until a random UA-cam suggestion 😤
Hazel is, was, and will always be the epitome of fabulous. Caribbean excellence.
As a Trinidadian she should have been given a Damehood, surely? Unless she gave up her nationality by birth? Her father was from Liverpool, England and, therefore, British. Shame she didn't come here to live. The French appreciated her, I am glad to say. Vive la Hazel!
I remember Hazel Scott-so beautiful and talented. Love you Tequila my friend.
I remember Hazel Scott-magnificent and so brilliantly talented.
As a Trinidadian I've known about Hazel Scott since childhood......My Grandparents told me about her and Winifred Atwell, another great Pianist from Trinidad.
Many women from that period were truly classy, elegant and remarkable.
Thank you for posting this!
Glen Soul I have two LPs by Winifred Atwell. She was an incredible pianist.
Mr. Bodden.....I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you from Cayman?
Glen Soul yes I am, but I've spent most of my live in the U.S.
@@roybodden9243 ......Nice! It's a pleasure to meet a you. I lived in Cayman for some years, and I still visit when I can. You take care.....All the best!
Glen Soul I though that I was the only one that ever heard ofWinifred Atwell, especially in the U.S. I bought those LPs in 1962. I didn't know who she was, but I liked the selection in the albums so I bought them and didn't regret the purchase at all. In fact, I still have them in my collect of 4,761 LPs.
The fact that Adam Clayton Powell was called "black" is just hilarious to me. That's the one-drop rule for you!
he’s metis but I don’t know if this word is very used by americans
Ikr... I was just saying that; He absolutely looks white!
#taytv2.0 #hazelscott
@@reginaphalange9417 Well, Americans nowadays do say "biracial" and "multiracial". And in the olden days they used to say "mulatto" (half black), and in some places they went as far as calling people "quadroon" (quarter black) and "octoroon" (one eighth black). But the racist one-drop rule came about which said that even if you had only one drop of black blood, you were to be classified as black. That's why there were and are so many obviously mixed race (and even basically white) people who called themselves black and were called black.
@@ananse77 which is why the black community can’t differently who is black anymore. We just let anyone in with some curls in their hair and tan skin tsk. It is what it is
@@unfazedjae2645 yeah that shit got to stop
Thank you for this historic and marvellous presentation. I can't believe I'd never heard of this brilliantly talented classy lady. Plays and sings with absolute mastery and ease. Her intelligence, beauty and humanity makes her even greater than ever. Hazel Scott, genius indeed. You were a treasure and are missed. God bless her soul.
Beautiful! I knew about Ms. Scott because my mother played piano and kept us well informed of how talented she was. My brother and I listened to her music. She was a marvelous woman!🤩❤
Very obvious why she was erased from American history. Cant have a black woman standing up for herself in an era where you must be put into your place and very talented at the same damn time! "THE HAZEL SCOTT MOVIE"... someone please make this. Thanks in advance
Who do you think should play her?
Absolute Beauty I agree whole heartedly! Let the movie makes begin to take note and get process started!!!!!
Alicia Keys would be great in this wonderful role! So would Halle Berry, Who doesn’t play piano to my knowledge, but as an incredible actress would learn the moves. I am a pianist, and I watched Richard Dreyfuss years ago on “The Competition.” This man had all the moves to convince me he was ally playing that piano, when he was not!
Absolute Beauty
What are you talking about you just heard them say she was rich and famous, was in three films and even had her own TV show.
Throughout history massively famous and successful people have disappeared from the scene.
Absolute Beauty
Stop exaggerating.
She hasn't been erased from American history.
You just weren't educated in jazz
Alecia Keys gave a nod to Hazel Scott during the BET Awards when she played the two pianos. I didn’t know this until I watched this story. Hazel Scott was a very talented woman. Thanks!
Now that’s what you call multifaceted. She was drop dead gorgeous, mega talented, graceful, brave and proud. I have watched a few of her performances online from archives and heard a song or two. I appreciate the person who uploaded this for us. Thank you. I hope to find more.💃🏽🙌🏽🎊🤩🎹
Herstory should be told on the Big Screen!
In the end it's a Hollywood \ Money White Green-lit issue......but YES this Story and ""The Black Count"" the story of the writer of the Three Musketeers and Count of Monte Cristo"s Black Father.......SHOULD BE TOLD AND SHOWED.
YYYAAAAAAAASSSS!!!
Nicki Minaj could play her on screen...... As she's from Trinidad too.....
Could have been the perfect part for a younger Janet Jackson.....
Ledesi could portray her well.
She was a hell of a lady! WOW, what a musician and activist. God bless her.
OmG this sista had magical hands!!! WoW I wonder why we never heard of her!!!
The absolute hypocrisy of the United States, isn't China and Korea the United States close trading partners blatant communists countries.
Look at her go...I love watching these documentaries I never knew who she was until tonight...yesterday I watched lena horne and all this talent my people had and still have...watching these documentaries makes me proud of my skin and heritage...beyond thankful🤗🤗
Of course they didn’t teach us about her in school. Why am I 26 and just finding out about her????? Researching indeed!!!
Don't feel too bad. I'm 70 and just heard of her. Glad I did.
I'm 76 and just heard of her.
I was 26 when I found out about Nina Simone🌺, I know how you feel. I'm 41 and I just found out about Hazel. 🌹
That's why it's up to us to keep their memories alive..... those that hate us surely ain't going to do it....
@alterdestiny I said it's up to US to continue her memory...… That's the same as " It's up to you to continue the past "...…. I didn't say she WASN'T popular...…. all I said is there are those who DON"T want us to know about her DUE to her greatness.... simple as that......and that INCLUDES the school system...…..
I've never heard of this woman! Thank you for bringing her into my life.
Exactly
I had no idea about this amazingly talented woman. I don't think I've ever seen someone so stunningly beautiful.
Charles Mingus was Scott's bassist. Amazing.
She was blessed to be in his presence.
I put him up there with thelonious monk, and fats waller
@@Peterblack12 Actually , he was blessed to be in her presence...at the time, she was more accomplished and the bandleader eventhough he became more successful and well known later on...
She reminds me of Josephine Baker who went through similar struggles and was one of many African Americans finding a second home in France.
You can add Nina Simone who also found a second home there in France to that list she reminds me of her.
Amazing woman Hazel Scott...don’t forget Eartha Kitt shared a similar fate and wound up in Paris, where Orson Welles called her “the most exciting woman in the world.”
hell naw
She took a stand when it wasn’t easy and she was dignified!
I love how so many artist moved overseas to reinvent their careers and themselves.
This is an amazing mini-doc! I'm so glad UA-cam suggested it. :)
She was a force to be reckoned with.
Priestess Auset Ra Amen indeed she was! 🙌🏾
Priestess Auset Ra Amen She most definitely was! ❤
Amen
She needs to go down in the history books of America as (If she hasn't already) as a true legend both as a musician and supporter of African American civil rights!
Outstanding! Wonderful!
African American humanity - this is the best thing about us and like her we should never compromise it. What a gifted Black woman. And big break at 19 with help from Billie Holiday -- Get outta town!
Hollywood still hates her, they made a blood oath to never allow her any recognition, why do you think nobody has tried to make a movie about her? they will never...
As a piano player myself, I was exposed to Hazel Scott's music as a kid. My mom was a virtuoso pianist and played Hazel's music for me. I was fascinated. I now play it. It is very tricky but great.
I like to see stories of the 20s, Hazel was born 1920 and my mom was born 1921. Hazel was to me one of the most beautiful woman of that time. Great story.
Watching it, 1-28-20
Watching today 💜
I was born in 1981 and I knew about her because I read all sorts of books as a child. I was fascinated with this queen and she made me love playing the piano.
That's what's up!
M G it's good to know that our young youth read on black history..I'm an 56 yr old African American woman and I never heard of her. Someone needs to do a movie on her life like the other legends in her time
She's beautiful! And talented
You can never erase perfection! Rock on Hazel Scott 😘
The more things change, the more they remain the same. Hollywood, Government and Power. Wake up folks and connect the dots.
New one for me
I screenshot the photo of those white men & I'm going to reach because if it started then the effects NOW are just repeated.
Brains beauty integrity talent and courage...of course!
I have been listening to Jazz for 52 years and I've never heard of Hazel Scott! Thank you SO much for bringing her story to light.
Is that crazy how someone can get erased from history ? Wow
They called that black balling like many black stars when they refused to comply with the white man's games and rules still going on today they just don't talk about the business just wipe you out or get the goat to do the job!!

I agree, WOW what a powerful black woman of the world. I never knew this history. MAKE AMERICA GREAT, (STOP) trying to keep these great stories, of great black people hidden from the world.
I just found out about this woman a few hours ago. STUNNING. This posting is excellent. Thank you!

Thanks Jr!!!!
Wonderful documentary. Thank you Eve!! What a talent!!
Me too and i'm 55 years old.
@evensteve284
Shockingly I just learned of her as well, she was an extraordinary woman.
Thank goodness for UA-cam!
I’m not surprised we never heard of her, anyone who doesn’t play the game and abide by “their” rules is forgotten, nikola tesla, hazel scott, and so many others I’m sure, some people put dignity and what’s right before money certainly not the case today where people will anything including sell their soul to satan for money
We Need to pull together and Make her Famous!! Alicia Keys, or Janelle Monae, could play her. ❤ she needs the exposure this is So Sad😢
This was incredibly well put together. I applaud you for your efforts. It must’ve taken an eternity!
Ms. Goldberg, your profile of Hazel Scott is absolutely excellent. Loved every second. Great job !!!
Thank you, Mr. Pruitt. I'm glad you liked it.
very smart n not a sell out😊
Eve Goldberg thank you Cherub from the heart for this. Blessings to you from the Magi in the East 🇲🇦✡️🙏🏿
Awesome truth! Thank you so much! More please!
She was amazing and beautiful too.
What a shame this kind of talent became so obscure and was forgotten like this. Thank you for telling her story.
I grew up hearing and seeing these famous entertainers because my sister loved Jazz. Hazel Scott was an exceptional talented lady.
An amazing performer whose existence I have just become aware of while watching a movie about Adam Clayton Powell, and I am a senior citizen. Thank you for creating this video.
Alicia mentioned her in the Grammy's when she played 2 pianos.
MAYBE SHE SHOUD DO SOMETHING THEN !!!!!! THEY HAVE SOOOO MUCH MONEY !!! SO LITTLE MEMORY !
Exactly 🙄
Apart from her brilliant musical abilities, Hazel Scott was a person of high integrity and values. I had heard of her previously but I never knew the story behind her life. Thank you Ms Goldberg.
Both a tragedy and an inspiration! Beautiful coverage of an amazing artist.
racist hurt her
My grandmother was a huge fan. Glad to see someone take an interest in this incredible woman. Thank you.
WOW she was a class act, the real deal. I've never heard of her till today, thanks for the upload.
She was intelligent and insightful in a society that really didn't want to see what she represented. imagine that.
This was great! I never heard of Hazel Scott until now, 2019. What a wonderful video essay of her. Now, I'm heading to the library to see what else I can find about her. Thank you for sharing.
Have been a fan of hers for years; heard her in concert. Memorable. A movie of this incredible woman must be made!
A spine of steel and fingers of silk. She was a woman of character. Thank you for introducing her to me. I now have to get the book about her and start collecting her music.
I really enjoyed watching this ... I never heard of her ... what a shame. She is so inspirational.. so ahead of her time .. wow!!! Love this video!!!
As a Trinidadian, I'm always proud to see my fellow country people on an international scale! wow!
She was an American hero! I had no idea about her!
Auntie Judy... she is was west indian but accultured american.
Judy Jones as a musician , she's an inspiration and a legend. I'm teaching about her or use this video for my classroom next black history month. Wow. Respect to Hazel Scott.
Amen
Nobody did.
I feel the same, how has she slipped by and I don't have a single one of her songs. It's a fine line she walked and politics and work don't mix unless your the boss. She was brave and American & her fight against segregation should be printed as one of the greats!
Such a wonderful account of Hazel Scott, whom I had never heard of until now. I have become a fan instantly! Thank you Eve Goldberg for creating this documentary of an American treasure.
Excellent documentary. Thank you. It's shocking that she's not more widely known.
This was an excellent watch! Thank you so much for keeping Hazel alive in this new generation.
Hazel was very beautiful.
Thank you Eve Goldberg! SUPERB production! My mother who is now 90 told us about Hazel Scott, her career, marriage, blacklisting, Dumont Television variety show, and most importantly, her amazing, stalwart, integrity and values! Again, I cannot thank you enough for producing such a wonderful, substantive and interesting production! Bravo, and Mazel Tov! Keep up the great work!
Wow. I'm truly amazed I never knew about this highly intelligent, courageous and so talented lady! Her story and music must be revived for today's generation.
I've never heard her music, thank you for sharing her story.
