A 10 year old boy lying under his mother's big Grand Steinway in the living room listening to her play this composition brings back so many memories. Now 82, and listening to Aimi masterfully play, is so emotionally fulfilling. I have been watching Aimi at every opportunity since she was 10.

Aimi Kobayashi is so far beyond anyone I have ever heard. Every note is emotional and perfect. The way her fingers move is beyond reproach. The only one equal is Arthur Rubenstein. I listened to the other pianists and was bored. I listen to the same piece played by Aimi and Wow. Amazing. Notes seem to fly off her fingers. You can see the emotion in her face and she puts it into the piano and the piano responds to Aimi.

Last time i saw Aime, she was like 10, playing beautifully Mozart piano concerto no.26.
She had grown up into a beautiful young woman playing with that same lightnes, delicacy, purity, feeling, straight from the soul.
Chopin suits her perfectly too. I love her style, graciousness.she lives the music with her whole being

  • @7pianoforte

Aimi's playing still transcends mundane reality and takes you into a realm of supersenuous bliss. The others play very well, and there is a technical perfection existing in a number of them. However, Aimi's playing has an ineffable emotive quality and her music is actually living and nostalgic to the extreme. Because of this Aimi will get as far as the best of them. Aimi is my winner in this competition.

+Tommy Schmitz: Yes, I am happy that you agree with me. Her former sponsor Patrick Tabet (now deceased) did not think that she should enter any competitions. Competitions do few people justice - case in point: George Li!
I was very disheartening to see Aimi Kobayashi cry after the Chopin competition. It was disturbing to see her come down to the level of a mortal. There were many there that knew of her genius and reputation. What humiliation in front of the world..
I believe that Aimi will make it big - she is still very young. Those members of the jury that intentionally did evil will reap its consequences.

+Vierotchka I agree with you and I hope that Aimi will benefit from this experience as a finalist. However, Aimi was extremely upset as were many of her followers because she was not judged fairly.
Again, Aimi does not need competitions - she could make it on the incomparable merit of her own playing.. The others there need competitions.
Patrick Tabet her main sponsor was reluctant regarding competitions for Aimi. He knew about their notorious reputation.

Omg, I am just watching Aimi play and i am swayed again to her. This is the Aimi of old that we loved so much. I have thought ( who am I to know ? ) that the Aimi of the Curtis institute had lost some of her natural magic, become somewhat stifled and rather robotic. But this is the Aimi of old, here she is playing with emotion, like a little bird full of joy, flying ever higher, free to show her true self, unshackled and FREE again to express herself as she so wishes in a true Virtuoso performance. Lastly she is looking so slim, the young Aimi has gone and a beautiful young lady has emerged, like a butterfly, her fingers danced across the keyboard in a multi coloured rainbow of heavenly sounds , Bravo Aimi !!

Graceful, genuine, and exquisite. She distinguishes herself from the other pianists who play textbook-perfect and typical interpretation, by showing us something so powerful yet so delicate, so emotional yet so coherent. I hope the judges see how naturally gifted and Chopin-suited this girl really is. She has no barriers between herself and music, she becomes music... few pianists are able to break such a barrier...

The worst thing about these competitions is that they can invoke the "try hard to be something she is already". She is an absolute piano genius and prodigy. She is a superior human. Yes, there were some errors from nervousness in the earlier rounds, but I've followed her closely and she is beyond a prodigy. At a early age, she could render Mozart and even Beethoven with great individuality. She has grace, original interpretations and a lot of maturity for her age. Her interpretation of the Rondo-Vivace is so refreshing. It's light, yet she can make it really sing ( at 37:22, 38:01, 40:00 onwards). Her phrasing is immaculate.

I find this to be an extraordinary performance. If you are looking for note by note perfection...you will never find it with any performer. The joy of music is the interpretation of each piece and Aimi Kobayashi delivered an emotionally charged beautiful performance. Every musician deals with nerves on some level and she played with poise, control, and no fear.... She didn't play it safe as so many do on the "big stage". A combination of strength and sensitivity... a joy to listen to.

Superb piano opening in the first movement. I'm immediately glued on to her. What an amazing young lady pianist! Incidentally, this is the first time I ever was almost in tears during the opening movement of this everlasting favorite concerto of mine. First time it ever spoke to me in this emotionally charged fashion! I am simply awed by Aimi. Just awed!

A high honor to pass elimination. A very high honor to receive honorable mention. Aimi was such a beauty. She brought something very special to the competition. She was my personal favorite and to show my appreciation I am buying her recordings to help her out.

Breath-taking. The word 'genius' is banded about a lot these days but in Aimi's case it's true. Wonderful to watch, I'm not especially into Chopin, but this is magical. Subarashii Aimi chan.

My heart is broken that you didn't get the appreciation from the judges you truly deserve, Aimi. Words cannot describe how utterly disappointed I have been with the judging this year. But don't let this get to you. In the course of the competition you've touched so many people's hearts. You are a true artist who has, to quote your very own words describing a professional pianist, 'taken on the responsibility to deliver a good performance'. Please don't ever stop playing and sharing with the world the gift of music, you so gracefully displayed throughout your musical career. My heart goes out to you and wishes you the very best.

+AdvancedPianoCovers She is a real genius. We all see that she isn't a simple human. So she will have many enemy and between them the members of jury. But she is clever, she knows it and she will never stop increasing real music!

    • @richarddeschenes739
      @richarddeschenes739 8 років тому +4

+AdvancedPianoCovers I agree with Gogya Art, Aimi has a higher consciousness through which she channels a very unique and entangling energy in vibration, stance and finesse... Grace and mastery of the movement. She has made several errors in her finals and we have all noticed them, however what she brings into the musical synergy of mind, heart and soul in her rendition and cadenza is so much greater than the notes themselves, we don't hear the flaws or notice the errors at first approach. She is above those judges and all the others around her since she brings out what they can't understand nor hear.
I also found Szymon Nehring to be much better than tose who won medals... Aimi and Szymon should have received more recognition... it is a sin that they were not given the merits they ultimately deserved.

+Richard Deschenes Any day I'll take a performance with some slips but innovative, played with passion and understanding of the music over a technically perfect one but sterile and lacking any creative thought or emotion. I've heard from several pianists, among them Piotr Adreszewski and Ingolf Wunder about pianists who prior to the performance in the competition via mp3 with headphones were litterally learning someone elses interpretation of given pieces by heart. Disgusting.

This young woman has NO "POTENTIAL" at ALL. She completely fulfilled her enormous capacities long ago, and has functioned as a GREAT ARTIST for years long before she even thought of entering this competition. This superb performance demonstrates near perfect balance between pensive lyricism and unbridled joie de vivre. Brilliant, refined, full of enchanting subtleties and endearing emotional involvement. Many many others may play this concerto as well as Aimi but I can't imagine anyone playing it any better. I would hate to be a judge at one of these events, because virtually everyone who dares enter these death-defying arenas these days is a wonderfully capable virtuoso. To those who said Aimi appeared "nervous," I ask, "Please look at her lovely face as she performs. You'd have to be deaf and blind not to realize how deeply and joyfully involved she is in what she's doing.

Beautiful from the start! I love this tempo, not rushed but as it should be, majestic and grandiose! As to the lady soloist, she’s great; her playing is technically crisp and beautiful while passionate and emotional. I especially ÑOVE her use of dynamics. I don’t know how old is she but looks younger so I anticipate we’ll hear much from her. Thank you for posting.

Because the orchestra's speed is a little slow,it affects the slowness of her tempo. Her performance(skill) is very nice.
