As someone who has studied performance and classical music, I have heard tons of music. I don't say that to put my nose up in the air, but you get almost numb to music. Analyzing it, practicing day in and day out in the practice room, being tested on it, reading about it, cramming it. The focus shifts from listening to it out of pleasure to listening to it by necessity. You are forced to go to concerts you don't care about, rehearsals for groups you'd rather not be in. Amidst the chaos of trying to perfect your craft and soak up everything you know, you begin to make music for granted. This performance, for me, is breathtaking. I hovered my hand over the mouse, not wanting to end the performance. It is rare to see so much musicality, so much emotion. In an age where everything can be replicated perfectly in the sonic realm, nothing can quite capture the exuberance and delicate nature of this playing. How beautiful, how stunning, how evoking of feelings. Music like this stands the test of time, allows for audiences to continue to be moved centuries later. That is the test of the music itself and the performers who dare try and showcase it. Naturally, music is an elitist institution. It takes time for ideas to change, so bold is the artist who commits to true artistry. Bravo, bravo, bravo!

i disagree with one point you make. Music is not "an elitist institution". It's one of the 7 liberal arts and whether you enjoy listening to performance or play or both, how can one pigeon hole this realm as elitist?
She brought tears in my eyes. The conductor said in the studio that Aimi's playing impressed him and the orchestra the most. That everyone was moved. I completely agree with him. This is the best performance of this concerto I have ever heard in my life. So many emotions, sorrow intertwined with joy of playing. Something wonderful. 4th place is a joke to me. She should have won.
I agree!! I was getting bored of hearing this concerto until Aimi breathed fresh life into it again.

The thing is. The convention of Chopin is to play it faster than the original if you can, not slower. That's the only reason she got 4th place imo.

Whenever I watch a skilled pianist, I am always sucked into the fantasy of being able to play. This was such an amazing performance

Aimi Kobayashi should be the winner of that competition. Judges’ decision puts a shame on the competition itself.

One can say, that she played a slower version that resulted in 4th place. It's her interpretation of Chopin. The competition diminished its credibility by being averse to the sorrow Aimi created in her interpretation. The 4th place is no reflection of her ability and flow but the collective competition's conscience. Aimi has the quality to slow down Chopin... just consider that for a second. A rebel against convention...
This is a great take on her performance. I agree her emotional take on this peace shined through on her performance. That needs to count for something.

It seems like so many pianists rush the parts that call out to be dwelled upon when playing Chopin. Speedruns are boring in video games as much as in Chopin, lol.

I don't know, it seems the judges don't like her or don't get her, I think her interpretation of Chopin is just too intelligent for them to comprehend. This was absolutely beautiful, the right tempo throughout and oh so sensitive. When the announcements were made it was written all over her face what she thought of her placement, and I felt so disappointed for her, she deserved much, much better.
not too many in the audience stood up in applause. music is so much more than the correct notes and tempo.
There were a lot of things she did well but definitely quite few areas that were lacking. As you probably know, the competition is so fierce that simply being "very good" doenst cut it. Her 1st round was... not sure how she made it past that round but the scores in the end are from other rounds and nkt teh concerto round.

@@EL-xg4yqcritics noted that she didn’t reach for a strong forte; some parts (this is just my opinion and she’s better than i’ll ever be lol) were too soft for my preference.
It seemed too volatile and not as smooth transitions for my taste. So I agree with the placement.
Aimi's performance was dramatic from the very first note. Her poetic and emotional interpretation was beautiful. I felt her inner passion in her all-out performance.

愛美さん、4位入賞本当におめでとうございます。6年前の悔しさを胸に今回最後のショパンコンクールに臨んだんだと思います。ファイナルでもやはり丁寧で綿密な愛美さんのショパンを聴けました。一音一音丁寧に音や響きを大切にしているのが伝わります。
特に第3楽章はとても素敵でした。

She took my breath and my heart away with this performance, so exciting ! What big time playing and she rose to the occasion and soared over everybody else miraculously , including Mr Liu, with all due respect to him. Fourth place? No way, shes the winner in my book, hope to see and hear much more of her down the road. I won't forget her great performances. Thank you Aimi! PS. Very good conductor, bravos all around.

1位2位をこれでもかというくらい聴いてこれを見たけど、鳥肌がすごい。こんなにも別の曲に聴こえるとは。第二からの第三楽章、ストーリーが見えてくるようで、音の粒が見えてオーケストラに反映されてるような、素人で上手く伝えられないことがもどかしいほどに、なんだこれーーーってなった!!!反田さんもブルースさんも言わずもがな凄かったけど、小林さんの感性がたまらなく好き!素晴らしい！
私はピアノの素人です。6年前に小林さんのことを知り、挑戦する生き様に共感し、その後コンサート等に度々足を運び演奏を聴かせて頂きました。そして6年間くじけそうになるたびに小林さんの6年前の演奏を聴いていました。
誰よりも小林さんの6年前のコンチェルト1番を聴いた自信があります(そのような方は私以外もたくさんいると思いますが)。
だからこそ素人の私でも解ります。今回の1番は6年前のものとは全く違うことが。専門的なことは解りません。しかし私は言葉で言い表せない感動を頂きました。最高でした。一生今回のショパンコンクールの演奏を聴き続けます。この度は本当にお疲れ様でした。これからの活躍も応援し続けます！！
小林さん、ほんと5年前と雰囲気変わったよね。それにしても、ほんとに素晴らしい演奏でした👏👏
ただののだめカンタービレ好きの素人ですが小林さんの柔らかく繊細で、でも芯のある迫力を感じる演奏と、壊れてしまわれるのではないかと感じる切ない表情が相まって切なくて涙が出ました。

I am watching Aimi for the first time. I am magnetised to her elegance and grace. What a skilful and talented pianist. I am so impressed how to she has learnt the whole piece off by heart. She is truly amazing ❤
弱冠20歳でポーランドから離れるショパンの祖国への惜別の曲である。祖国ポーランドへの熱き想いと、将来への希望が織りなすこの曲の真髄を見事に表した名演奏である。このような心に響く演奏は今までに聞いたことがない。

ただただ美しい。第一楽章はもともと美しいフレージングの連続ですが、これほど深く存分にショパンの美しさを描ききることができるのは小林愛実を措いて居ないだろうと思う。賞の行方がどうなるかはわかりませんが、そういうことをいわば「下世話」と感じさせるほどすばらしい演奏でした。
In my opinion, Aimi expressed the subtlety and sensitivity of Chopin's works best.
Chopin would be very pleased with her interpretation of his great music.
I got glossy eyed as soon as she started playing. I've never heard Chopin played in this manner. It was amazing. It almost sounded like a completely different person than the traditional Chopin I am used to hearing. Just amazing. If this was 4th place, then I'm at a dead end in life musically.
ピアノのソロから風景はがらりと変わる・・・なんて、切ない表情で演奏すのだろう。思いが伝わってくる演奏です。素晴らしい・・・同じ、日本人として誇りに思います。この演奏は、いくらAIが発達しようとも、決して真似はできない。ジェフリー・ラッシュ主演の、昔観た映画、「シャイン」が観たくなってきました。一音、一音、彼女の指先から魂が鍵盤に伝わってゆく様が、とても心地よい・・・音楽に国境はない。

演奏し始めると、まるで彼女は小林さんではなくこの曲の、物語の主人公そのものなのではないか、というような気迫を感じました。
ショパンの世界が乗り移ったかのような。
魂を注ぎ込むがあまり、演奏後命が尽きるのではないか？とさえ感じました。
同じ人間とは思えない程です。素晴らしい。

全てのファイナリストの中で、一番愛実ちゃんのコンチェルトが好きです。もう何度も聴いています。
前回大会が終わった後、「悔いがないから怖い」といって少し燃え尽きてしまった様子だったので、今大会は見ている自分も少し緊張していました。しかし、前奏曲での恐るべき集中力を見せつけられ、感動するとともに、ピアニストとして大きく成長していたことを思い知らされました。
ファイナルはどうくるのか、ただただ楽しみにしていました。蓋を開けるとなんということでしょう！！私はこの演奏を聴いて涙が出てしまいました。まるで一本の映画を観ているような、大きな音の波で目も耳も心も演奏から離れませんでした。
私は、豊かで美しいppこそショパンの魅力だと思っています。この演奏は、私の求める最良のコンチェルトでした。
大変遅くなりましたが、コンクール第4位、おめでとうございます。そしてお疲れ様でした。これからも、愛実ちゃんを心から応援しています。

日本人です。素人です。でもここでは素直な感想を言ってもいい場所だと思い、コメントします。同じ日本の反田さんの演奏で舞い上がる自分が居て、小林さんは2度目ともあり根拠のない期待をしていましたsorry…自分の無知さsorry…計り知れないプレッシャーやストレス…小林さんの演奏…敬愛や優しさ…繰り返し見る度に優しさに気付き…優しいタッチに癒されます。ピアノの鍵盤を打つ指の優しさはfinalistの中では1番響きました👍ありがとうございます。感動しました

The combination of the pianist's facial expressions and the sound of her playing brings together such an immense level of emotion all through a video on the internet...imagine being there in person.
Look at her eyes at the moment she plays at a loud volume, glaring at the keyboard with scary eyes. From there, we will spin a powerful sound.
Her performance purifies the hearts of all in the world.
I almost started crying when she first started playing. Her dynamics and overall technique makes this performance ethereal. Gorgeous! Brava!!!

Aimi’s Romance was exquisite. She understands the art of rubato and phrasing.
In that movement, she exceeded Bruce.

She brings the music alive even to a non expert this keeps them hooked you can feel the emotion in the music coming through
4th?! No! This was a masterpiece! Good on her for keeping to how she felt it should be played. Sometimes, the placement doesn't matter--just that everyone remembers it, and well--this is quite extraordinary...I'll never forget it!

Aimi Kobayashi is a revelation. She journeys deep into Chopin's heart and experience and expresses it very personally as though she is in direct dialogue with him. Her mastery of dynamics, ability to go from power to tenderness from phrase to phrase, the way she never duplicates but always finds nuance and variation takes one's breath away.
Such a beautiful and emotional interpretation. I know I'm not the only one who felt like crying while listening to it... The second movement was heartwarming ♥️
I often get enthralled by the shear simplicity of this gift to us, humans. Perhaps Chopin wanted his farewell from his motherland to be as simple & honest as his life, like a child waving goodbye to his mother. I don't know for sure but I like to believe its true.
And hatsoff to Aimi she has recreated a classic. Bravo!

Yes! She gets her whole body and face engaged with the music, you can tell she is FEELING the music when she plays. And when shes just sitting there she looks so elegant and graceful!

She looks utterly bored before she starts playing. And she knows she is being recorded, the faces aren't genuine. She must have practiced this piece hundreds if not thousands of times in order to learn it and develop her own interpretation of it. You can't convince me that she acts this emotionally every time she plays the song. It's not like she wrote it. She learned the necessary technique, wrote memorized a piece until it was muscle memory, then added theatrics on top of it because pianists like to do that. The back and forth swaying that naturally happens as you play the piano lends itself to these theatrics. As far as I can tell when people say a musician plays with "soul" it means absolutely nothing other than that they believe the musician "looked" emotionally invested in the piece. Not at all interesting or convincing unless they wrote it themselves.
@@cheeeeezewizzz If a work of art is great enough, and the performer artist enough, the performer can identify so closely with the piece that it comes straight from their own soul
To me the facial expressions seem forced at times. In a piece that evokes such genuine emotion, these crude, disingenuous theatrics detract a lot from the quality. Emotion and expression is intuitive to humans, even a toddler is able to interpret joy or sadness - it’s very obvious when the emotion is forced, and here it absolutely is.
I suffer from anxiety and depression. I came across this and watching all 44 minutes I felt free, weightless, floating...I was right there with the violins, the French horns, the oboes, next to this talented young lady watching her move to the keystrokes as she was immersed in the time of the music. I was in a place of tranquility and happiness and finding myself smiling broadly with a joyful tear in my eye. I was transformed!!! What a beautiful time in human history to be able to write music such as this. What happened to us???

Most Emotional concerto….That is why I love her performance. Aimi make me touch deep inside . Every notes are so clear with full sound and come into the source of the tears.

Congratulations to Aimi kobayashi for winning the 4th place. I have never come across a song that expresses Chopin's deep feelings like this. I think this performance is a wonderful performance that attracts the hearts of many people.
It’s not a song. It’s a piece.
Actually, Aimi won much moree than a 4th place. She won the hearts of everyone who heard her play. This wasn't really a competition... it was a Theater for Mr. Dang and his student winners. So to me, the winners are whoever Mr. DANG decides will win. Aimi performed magnificiently and she won in everyone's heart. Bruce was very good as well and yes, he did perform wonderfully... this is true, he is a great pianist.... but if his teacher Mr Dang was not also a judge, then would he have won fairly?? ....This is a big question...
Mr Dang's student wins again, like in 2015 Mr Dang's THREE STUDENTS WON!! ... It is laughable...
Always Mr Dang, Mr Dang , Mr Dang... !! .....You can fool some of the people ALL of the time, and you can fool all of the people SOME of the time... but mr Dang cannot fool ALL of the people ALL of the time... This time he has proven that the chopin competition is his own theater and it is not a competition at all... it is to promote Mr DANG DANG DANG! so it is worthless!

Excellent performance! I think she played even better in this concerto than she did in the semi finals, and I think she deserved at least the 3rd prize.
Listen to Trifonov then, his performance will outshine all other interpretations
@@erikadash768- There is no way on earth (or in hell) that I will ever waste another second of my life listening to Trifonov. I literally hate the way he plays. I think he may even play worse than Lang Lang.
Listen to Yundi Li (who by the way is now in prison for a bogus accusation, with the compliments of the Chinese Communist Party!), Arthur Rubinstein, or any of the great legendary pianists from the past (like Moriz Rosenthal), if you really want to hear something special. Even Kissin played the concertos brilliantly when he was only 11 years old.
Anyway, I'm glad that some people seem to really like Trifonov. I would hate it if he's being pushed down everyone's throat while nobody would even care for him.
@@j.vonhogen9650 idk why're you so aggressive I guess your perception of the music depends on how the performer looks. I actually don't like such "facial expressions" too but to my mind Trifonov has the best performance, he sounds like a great pianist. His sound projection from his arms not just hands gives a softer and more colourful effect and his leading of the melody is effortless. And Yumdi li sounds like a good pianist, but yet not great, I can't see something extraordinary in his playing. I agree that Trifonov is not a versatile pianist and he's locked in certain genres, but this Chopin concerto suits him the best. And I can't get the excitement around Aimi, her Tchaikovsky concerto is ok but here her sound is kinda stiff cause her hands are tight and her sound projection using fingers only is not good that sometimes she sounds rough, and phrasing is not the best.. But idk about comparing her to other participants, I only liked Bruce Liu on this competition

I'm just giving my professional opinion as a pianist, composer, music publisher, music producer, recording engineer, music software engineer, teacher who gives masterclasses and lecture-recitals to professional pianists and composers, and as an academic researcher specialized in 19th century music and musical performance. I have not been "aggressive" in any way, so why on earth would you falsely accuse me of such behavior? It's really disgusting!
Judging from what you wrote about Yundi Li, the youngest winner of the Chopin Competition ever, and the first winner in 15 years(!), I can see that you have no idea what you are talking about. Having said that, I do not care about your opinion if you can't even hear the difference in quality and talent between Lang Lang, Trifonov and Chinese political prisoner Yundi Li, but I respect your opinion anyway. You could have respected my (expert) opinion too, but instead, you decided to smear me by misrepresenting what I said, which to me is totally irresponsible and incredibly dishonest.
Just so you know, you can disagree with someone and just agree to disagree without getting personal, launch ad hominem attacks, or blatantly lie about what that person actually has said like you did. You have your opinion, and I've got mine. Please, learn to respect the opinion of other people!
@@j.vonhogen9650 I'm sorry, but you do sound aggressive speaking about Trifonov "being pushed down in everyone's throat" and unreasonably omitting Daniil (who is the winner of Tchaikovsky and Arthur Rubinstein competitions btw). I spoke facts about his playing and you just named your professions (I have a music degree too) and nothing to prove your point of view. I APologize I misunderstood you when you spoke about Lang Lang out of nowhere and I thought you compared Trifonov to him because they are both sometimes kinda overexpressive on stage. I didn't even say your opinion is not right but you literally insulted that I can't hear the difference in the sound and that's simply not true after what I've written before

i think she sacrifices some of the brilliant, flashy moments for extremely deep emotion with her speed but it's so worth it. I love her interpretation so much!

It was the best concerto for me, although I haven't heard all of them yet (but most). Deeply touching. I think she deserved at least the third prize overall. I also really appreciated her preludes in the third round.

Aimi’s playing is like a box of fine chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get next but in contrast to life (yes Mrs Gump) somehow you’re certain it’s gonna be a delight. I have never heard a more introspective and poetically abstract performance of this concerto. She takes all her time to lead the listener on a spiritually enriching journey. That being said, this is a competition in the end, and competition aren’t usually generous with this type of playing. I’m happy she got a prize!
Introspection in the middle movement would be great, but the 1st and last need to really be extroverted interpretations that draw the orchestra and audience into the performance. I think she may have won 4th Prize over a more deserving performance in the end.
yes i felt that the more introspective performances were penalised overall, should be more agnostic imo
Totally agree with Daniel Dascalu. Aimi plays Chopin as if she had a fortepiano under her fingers, although she plays a Steinway unfortunately with small and short trebles. Each finger chooses the sound, each note is full of poetry. We are far from the brutality of the Chopin of the 70/80s. She would have deserved the first prize but her third movement was a little too subtle to satisfy a competition jury. Listening to her and appreciating her, I even feared the worst.

小林さんがショパンの協奏曲第1番を今回どのように演奏するのか本当に楽しみにしていました。実際今回は全く新しい解釈を全3楽章を通じて聴かせてもらったように思います。
今まで私は協奏曲第1番はこの世から離れ、どこか夢の中に入り込んだような美しさが聴けたらいいと思っていました。しかし今回の小林さんの演奏は、ショパンがどこか戸惑い不安な思いを持ちつつ覚束ない足取りながらも、自分の足で少しずつ歩みを進め、ふと見つけたこの世の美しさに喜びを見出していくさまを、ショパンに寄り添いつつ繊細に一音ずつ紡ぎだされているように聴こえました。
私にとっては今回はコンテストの順位など関係なく、本当に人生にとって新たな発見となる貴重な体験でした。ありがとうございました。
この後ショパンはもちろん、ベートヴェンのソナタなどをぜひ聴かせていただけたらと思います。

Niesamowita ekspresja......myśle , ze najblizsze duchowi Szopena wykonanie....Ogromna muzyczna wrazliwość, coś czego tak bardzo potrzebujemy w czasach cyfrowej sztuki.... W tej interpretacji jest dusza.... Bardzo dziękuje....

@@andrzejp4902 obawiam sie, ze zadecydowala "polityczna poprawność"...niestety, a nie walory artystyczne...Jurorzy wybierali pomiedzy nia a wspanialym też Kyohei Sorita...zeby nie podkreslać supremacji orientalnych,a szczególnie japońskich artystow...Ale dla mnie to bylo przepiekne wykonanie i zaden werdykt- subiektywny przeciez- tego nie zmieni...

Art is one person’s interpretation and very subjective. I believe all competitors were magnificent and their artistry is shown through their playing. Bravo to them all. Whatever the outcome please continue to make music. Maybe you can produce students to make more music, your career has just began!

Думала, что с тех пор, как имела счастье услышать в зале Генриха Густавовича Нейгауза, что никогда не услышу больше никого, кто этим произведением так потрясет и в то же время так нежно обнимет душу! Брависсимо всем! Японка сама слилась с Шопеном и так нежно, так искренне и проникновенно рассказала о жизни! Она потрясающе точно смогла понять славянскую душу! Техника прекрасна и, естественным образом, работает на передачу мысли и эмоций, а не демонстрирует самое себя. Оркестр на всем протяжении произведения не увлекается бравурными эпизодами соло, а деликатно ведет , конечно, самостоятельную , но при этом именно партнерскую линию по отношению в исполнителю, часто сознательно становясь даже просто фоном , но главным образом, все же деликатным и отзывчивым "слушателем" и мыслителем о том, что изливает душа и руки волшебной исполнительницы. Спасибо огромное!!!!! Восхищена!!!!!!❤️❤️💖❤️💖❤️💖❤️💖❤️❤️💖❤️💖💖💖💖💖💖

This was too beautiful. It was overflowing. Not a single boring moment. I love how you can see her love of the music and how that can be transferred to the listener.

No one's gonna talk about Richard 78 years old still chasing his dreams in the back catching his breathe giving his best with the flute playing his part as a small cog in this giant machine that's a concerto!!
Remarkable. Every note is measured, weighted, timed and felt.
The lost notes on her left hand during the final movement may fatal to the judges. But she touched me so deep that I would never care about the flaw and the ranking. Aimi has given me the most beautiful Chopin I would never forget in my life.
Maybe that's why she landed in 4th place.....she is basically flawless, but i guess in this type of competition any mistake can cost you.
