  • Filmed this about a year ago when I bought my FIRST custom classic T Suhr. There was definitely a learning curve but I absolutely love my Suhr, but at the time the Fender just felt special in my hands...but to be fair I've played Fenders since I was 14. But I decided to compare both Tele's to each other and see how they stacked up!
    (I know the Suhr isn't a real tele, it's T style *rolls eyes*)
    WARNING I'm obviously confused at how a guitar more then half the price played "better" IMO
    Both guitars were recorded using the Line 6 Helix and was filmed at Ron Zabrockis Long Island studio.

    Suhr is a better guitar. I have a few fender in both tele and Strat as well as Suhr. Suhr has a more modern sound even with the more vintage specs and honestly play better. But I agree there is something "too perfect" about the suhr that makes it the really hot model that looks like the next really hot model. The fender is more of the pretty lady next door, a bit quirky but unique in its own sound.

      I definitely agree with this. The Suhr is so perfect but for example I have a 78 Music Man Sabre 2 and maybe being over 40 years old and well maintained has a bit to do with it but I swear that Music Man just feels special AND it has a 7.25 radius. Zero issues with low action, bending, shredding, sweeping, etc. It’s weird sometimes too perfect is slightly off putting, quirkinesses is definitely welcomed!

    Who ever was the voice of reason at the end I agree with. I happen to own both and can say they are both extremely substantial instruments.

      James Renna yeah I was looking into them and fenders custom shop and a few other companies but I had my eye on that Suhr and got it for 2 instead of 4 and I had to scratch that itch lol. The wider neck and distance between the strings tripped me up but it’s my favorite guitar now I just needed to get used to it. But thanks a lot dude I really appreciate it!! Btw I love your playing man you’re killin it! 🙌

    This has to be the most political comparison of a Suhr and Fender ever. Your confusion was totally priceless but I agree, I do like the sound of those pickups in the Suhr but I’m a Fender guy so I feel like even saying that is sacrilege!

    Interestingly, I have a Suhr classic strat that is the most playable that I've ever seen. Across the board it's perfect. So perfect, that I almost bought a T type sight unseen. Instead I grabbed some cash and drove a hundred miles and was shocked. Where the neck on the S was as low as I wanted and still bend up 2 whoke steps sans choke, the T's action was twice as high and still choked on upper fret bends. I had to pass.. You can't assume anything.

    I thought the Fenders sounded better than the Suhr. I would bet the Suhr plays better and stays in tune better though.

    I love both! I think I will take a suhr over most usa fenders though even though they are about $1000 more. I like how suhr offers Floyd models and use gotoh hardware. I have played a custom fender strat and I think I liked it MORE then the suhr moderns I played. I do like the SS frets on suhr. Don’t think you can wrong with either 🙂

  • @lenmusic123

    At 6:44 he says the Suhr neck is too thick and too wide. But the Suhr's neck width is 1.650" while the Fender is 1.685", (and the fingerboard radius of the Fender is wider as well) so that doesn't make sense to me. Any idea what he means?

  • @robrippen

    Suhr has a fuller sound. I like both. But yeah price factors in. I personally think the jm 20 with the pf 90s or the tone buckers are where its at. I saw a video where a guy bought a high end tele and a a tele suhr. I would spend my money in such a way as to get a tele but then a suhr jm. Those sound bad ass

  • @papageorgio9759
    @papageorgio9759 5 років тому +4

    Fender all the way man. Look at how he played the Fender compared to the Suhr. This kid was playing the REAL tele with ease, I honestly thought it was his guitar until he said he borrowed it at the end. Hey Billy Kennedy, you ever get the Fender and trade in the Suhr?? 😂

    • @billykennedy8093
      @billykennedy8093  5 років тому

      LMAO You're totally right! I was really feeling that Fender the night we filmed this but I've grown into the Suhr and It's one of my most played guitars if not the most! Maybe I'll make a new video to show how I got use to it but also most people don't know Suhr does make WAY slimmer necks and I'd imagine they'd be just as easy to play then any Fender. I'm planning on getting a Suhr strat with one of those slimmer neck profiles down the line so we'll see!

    Hmmm personally I think that elite is a great guitar but the suhr is on another level granted I haven't played the Teles as I'm a strat guy but the Suhr classic S is the best strat I've ever played in terms of playability

  • @martinmcfly2465

    • @billykennedy8093
      @billykennedy8093  5 років тому +2

      I don't know if that's fair to say. Both brands definitely have their own feel and Suhr I feel like is trying to take what Fender did and make modern inspired versions of their guitars. Also the add ons, special finishes, woods, etc. push Suhrs into the 2-4k range....idk keep buying Fender man lol

      @@JosePineda-jn8jk I played a Fender CS tele back to back with a Suhr Classic T the other day. I had the same dilemma that you do but it was a $6,500 guitar versus a $2,700 guitar(Suhr). While I did not buy either guitar, I have to admit that there's no way that I would have paid the extra money for the Fender Custom Shop relic'd-to-hell model over that Suhr. The Classic T was set up incredibly well, it's pickups had a sweetness and transparency that the Fender did not. I would definitely pay the money that was being asked for the suhr everyday and twice on Sunday for those reasons.
      The Fender was incredible, don't get me wrong! But at nearly double the price, it wasn't worth it at the prices n that I'm willing to pay.

      Mike Denkinger I agree man! I love Fenders custom shop. They do incredible work and make great guitars but unless you’re making serious money or are a famous guitarist it’s definitely not worth it IMO. There’s no way I could justify paying that much. I’d go with the 2,700 Suhr all day!

      Watch Aficionado LMAO I wish! It was just the fact I paid 2,400 for the Suhr and could’ve got the Fender for 1,400 which at the time I preferred after I compared them. So I was having a bit of a dilemma 😂

    • @algorithm007ify
      @algorithm007ify 4 роки тому +3

      Billy Kennedy ah cool...Well at least know that the frets in your Suhr are stainless steel (longer lasting), PLEK treated (i.e., can be setup for shredding more easily) and probably having better woods with quarter sawn maple cuts. Also, I found that to really assess whether or not you like a guitar more, you really have to have it for longer than a few days to compare. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence..and as they say, “the heart deceives”..

    Fender+Custom Shop pups or Lollars, still cheaper than Suhr and you’ll have the real deal; always the best way to go. Not to say Suhr is bad, because they aren’t at all, but I don’t want a copy, I want the real deal. You have two great guitars there. The elite neck is my favorite shit all day. No hand fatigue, medium jumbo are awesome.

      Spartan excellent point dude, I didn’t even think about that! And you’re 100% right about the elites neck. I was playing about 6-7 hrs the day we filmed this and I was dragging on the Suhr but I could’ve kept playing the fender all night!
