That is just beautiful! Such great choices for sure! And YES! Worth all that stripping (of paint), sanding, color washing, decoupaging, more sanding…..just really lovely ❤
Multiple paint removal techniques, new paint wash techniques, new decoupage techniques, this gorgeous project reminds us that the song was right, “Life’s a dance, learn as you go.”
I'm a Andy Fable person!!! You seriously are so fun to watch, not to mention, extremely talented in my opinion.. both theatrical and upcycle type of person? LOL, not sure if that made sense, but all I know is, you have a gift and I'm thrilled each time I'm notified that you have a new video :) Take care sweet Andy!
I’m a big fan, and this project was fantastic. Reminds me of the bedside trunk that I have had for forty years, and finally addressed the unattractive maple orange finish this year. It needed a few small repairs; fortunately it was shellac which sanded off easily, leaving to my astonishment a very early 6-board trunk with iron nails and beautiful hand cut dovetails. I used a chalk paint (AS Country Grey) paint wash, then linseed oil followed by clear wax, then white wax. LOTS of polishing, but it feels the same but so much better, and I can really appreciate the construction. The paint wash keeps the maple very pale, which works well with my home. So satisfying!
Yes, it means package, but only when you send something by post. It is an old label, probably from when the dresser was manufactured and sent to the buyer, it is usually found on the back of Swedish furniture. The label usually says who made it or from which city it comes from the amount of information on the label varies, there may also be stamps from the manufacturer these are usually at the back of the dresser or inside one of the drawers.
Very pretty, well worth all the hard work! I was in Sweden this summer[Swedish sister-in-law]. They have the most wonderful s/hand furniture you would have loved!
Cyd in MD. I would happily stamp this little cross-continental visitor's passport. I'd tip my hat and say...welcome to the USA. Do you think your friends, the original owners, will get to see your video? They will be so pleased if they do. 🙂
Andy, I don’t know what I enjoy most about your furniture fables! Is it your flair for the dramatic in creating a humorous and highly entertaining storyline, your vision and creative talents that result in truly unique pieces, or your eclectic choices in the music that correspond so perfectly with your narrative? For me, it’s a tie, and it’s always a treat to see what you and your cast of zany characters are up to next!
Absolutely beautiful! I have never seen someone sand off the decoupage paper to create that stamped effect. I love it! I love the wash you did and I’m always all about shiny knobs, handles and pulls. This is such a special piece and I really hope Drea told you how much she loves it. It’s the same but completely different!🌸
Yay, and thank you so much! So great to hear you liked that sanding of the fiber paper, and great to hear you liked those shined up pulls. And I think even SHE will like it! 😂🙏💙
You never cease to amaze and surprise me with your fables! They are educational, entertaining, relaxing, and funny. This one knocked it out of the park, and best of all, you did it for yourself! I so enjoy your videos they allow me to stretch my own creativity. Just love what you do!
Such beauty & class! Loved that decoupage technique on the drawers AND the paint wash! I think I heard the piece say, “Ahhh! Feels amazing to get out from under all those layers of paint! I can breathe again!” Congrats on another amazing outcome!
Absolutely beautiful! During the process, I wasn’t sure I would like the sanded paper, but when it was finished, I absolutely loved it. I also liked your choice to leave the hardware a little bit on the well loved side. By the way, my heat gun is named Dragon’s Breath.
This turned out so lovely! I agree with every choice you made in this makeover. It was so satisfying to see the heat gun tackle that thick paint. I also love the dialoge that you and Drea always have. Call me entertained! Thanks a million.😀
Oh Andy this new but the same chest is absolutely beautiful! I love the decoupage paper, it adds so much beauty! Wow, it's just gorgeous from top to bottom! Your work is awesome! 😊❤
I love everything you did to the piece. Love the paint colors. The weathered decoupage paper makes the piece and love the shiny original pulls. Simple and Elegant. 👍👍
Love everything about this beautiful dresser.....right up my design alley. The decoupage technique with this lovely paper is soft and sweet. And you and Drea are always a treat !!
She’s went from rags to riches….and looking truly gorgeous … I love the white wash technique and the decoupage paper was over the top… Another great performance 💕
The paint wash, the distressed decoupage paper, the patina on the hardware and the design of the chest all came together to make probably my favorite redo in a very long time. I flat out loved this. Makes me want to go out and find a pine chest of drawers. I enjoy your videos so much. They are so entertaining. Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Love the entire transformation. What an incredible idea with the paper. I never much cared for pine, but that wash is just what it needs. Simply beautiful.
Gorgeous! I love the decoupage technique. Definitely going to try that! The layered paint wash was interesting too. thanks for always being so inspiring with your projects. :-)
I’ve never seen a piece of furniture go through a weight loss program. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Man ‘ol man that heat gun trick was satisfying to watch. I think I heard the wood inspire deeply then breathe a sigh of relief once released from it’s cocoon of paint. And again as usual I’m yelling at the screen “NO DON’T DO A PAINT WASH”. Oh ok do that paint wash. “NO DECOUPAGE” Well, yes THAT is nice. “Ok you’re right, I’m wrong”. BEAUTIFUL!😮
Beautiful transformation! It truly is the same but different. I love the paint wash finish. The sanded paper is not to my taste, but it suits you and your home, so that's the important thing. I can appreciate the beauty of the piece without loving every little detail. Great job!
Tack sa mycket for this gorgeous flip! (Lol I learned a little Swedish in high school ;-)) LOVE this look so much! I’ve used Algonquin as a paint wash too, but the creamy white on top was next level. Will have to try that! And I also discovered the fun of sanding back the fiber decoupage paper. This was a perfect use for that technique. Keep ‘em coming Andy!!
This tells me that the acrylic paint used just sets on the wood…where Annie Sloan chalk paint penetrates the wood and adheres better for long lasting finish…with her wonderful and durable wax…my projects have lasted amazingly…love all your great ideas…this one is beautiful…
My family wants to know what I am watching, I keep yelling "She is taking it off"! I am a big fan of the stripping. I loved this video, the opening had me cracking up and the piece turned out great!
just perfect, wow, what a change. Love the wash and you gave me some pretty cool ideas with some decoupage paper and what to do with it. As always, thanks for sharing your videos.
Definitely the same but different. Not a fan of paper on the drawers but the paint wash looks very good, a very subtle effect, and the drawer pulls look great.
Love the piece! I love using those fibrous papers but never thought to distress it great look. I will have to try it out on a piece. Thanks for the tip!
In Sweden led paint for indoor use has been forbidden since the second half of the 19th century. This dresser would have been painted as was not a expensive wood and it’s even knotty. It was in the 1970:s that it became popular with knotty pine and people started to stripp painted pine furniture. And yes ”kolli” is package. Love the result by the way
Wow Andy! Such a hard worker😮❗I usually don't care for cutesy comedy but I loovve yours🎉😂 Your talent knows no bounds❗Prefer tarnished pulls😉 You asked. Not so much sanding of decopauge paper around edges for me. You asked.
Yes! Thank you,Andy. I was wanting to do this kind of look with an antique dresser/mirror that I have. Thankfully, there is no paint on it; just a clear finish. I love your choice of colours on your piece,so I think I'll do "the same, but not the same" in a slightly darker shade of blue. This project won't begin until the snow flies, though. I have gardens to harvest and put to sleep for Winter first. Wish me luck in advance...lol
Wow!! Your Swedish dresser turned out Beautiful!! I love the drawer pulls. Loved all your techniques! Will definitely remember the ole heat gun- stripping furniture is No Picnic! Lol you did a fabulous job!!
She is beautiful! and i love the blue sanded paper but i love the plain drawer at the party too. The pules are perfect just cleaned up! You should name her Hannah like that bad ass chick in the Hannah show ! She`s the same but different too! LOLOL . Your character that wanted you to redo her piece looks and sounds like a relative or daughter of Mrs Wilson from the 1993 movie Dennis the Menace. Joan Plowright Matha Played the role of misses Wilsonnnnnn! hahahaha that movie was a crack up.
There is something so soothing, watching you strip paint off of a piece. Kind of ASMR ish. Beautiful piece, love the paper sanded down into the drawer fronts. Reminds me so much of old European furniture pieces. Another great video and great makeover. I would have named the heat gun "Hot Lips Houlihan" but "Hottie McHotterson" also has a ring to it, lol!
Oh Andy such a labour of ❤All that stripping and sanding 😜It turned out So Beautiful! And I’ve never seen anyone do that with decoupage paper 🤔❤❤ it ! Drea must be over the moon with this makeover 🥰
Two commets here: Firstly, now i know what to do with pine!!! Love the paper technique I have seen it done with napkins but this looks a little more rich...secondly, I think I need to take Drea's description of what to do "same but different" to any future cosmetic procedures::))
Yay, so glad you liked that pine-toning approach, as well as the fiber paper! And SHE will be thrilled you related to her same-but-different description. 😊 Thanks so much! 💙🙏
Seldom do I "meet" a brainy person whose braininess does not interfere with their manual craft. YOU are that person. The Algonquin, the "special sauce" overlay, the paper and the way you sanded it -- the way you, in a word "re-imagined" the piece -- are each and all sheer genius. PS: It takes a lot of layers to make a lady look nude.
Wow. All that paint! Lovely outcome, Andy. Thanks so much for your adorable characters. I love them so much. I'm sorry for asking - who is the hoity toity woman character. What is her name? She is just so great. Were you a theater major? LOL.
Many thanks! So glad you are enjoying the furniture as well as the Fables characters...miss hoity-toity seems to be a sort of alter-ego and goes by "Drea". 😉🍸 I was not a theater major, but was a music major and now I work in theatre as a vocal director, and occasionally get to perform on stage as well. 😊💙
Andy, I loved the way you did the paper, sanded off around the edges. The colors are perfect! You really know what you’re doing. You’ve given me ideas for an old orangey pine Santa Fe style buffet I have been wanting to refresh! Thank you!
I bet that dresser felt like a butterfly. She now can breathe. You took her cocoon off so she could soar! ❤️
Oh I love that, thanks so much! 😊💙🙏🦋
That is just beautiful! Such great choices for sure! And YES! Worth all that stripping (of paint), sanding, color washing, decoupaging, more sanding…..just really lovely ❤
Hooray! Great to hear, thanks so much! 😊💙🙏

Oooooo, love that!!! Many thanks!! 😊💗🙏
And the Academy Award goes to…Furniture Fables By Andy!!
WOW! Gosh...I have so many people I need to thank....thank YOU so very much!!! 🙏😍🤩
What a beautiful finish! So much better with those layers removed. The heat gun paint removable was so cool
Yes!! So in love with my heat gun right now! 🔥 Thanks so much! 😊💙
I'm a Andy Fable person!!! You seriously are so fun to watch, not to mention, extremely talented in my opinion.. both theatrical and upcycle type of person? Hooray, many thanks, Toni! So great to hear this!

Wow, that sounds fantastic! Thanks so much.
I adore the finished distressed look. Charming!
So glad to hear that, thank you! 😊💙🙏
Wow that idea with the decoupage weave is a game changer. I can't wait to try that 🧡🧡🧡
I'm so glad you think so! I really like the effect...thinking of other ways to use it. 😊💙🙏
Gorgeous! I absolutely love the technique with the paper!
Thank you so much! 😊💙
beautiful! that decoupage paper is the bomb, and the aging effect is perfect! such a beautiful do-over!
Yay, thanks so much!

It’s perfection!😊

Thanks so much!
BEAUTIFULLY DONE! !TY!
Thanks so much!!
It came out beautifully.
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I often wonder why people do not use heat guns more often!🤔 I have not had luck with that fiber deco podge paper.
They sure come in handy when the paint is lifting like it was on this piece!! Oh I'm so sorry! I've used it a few times, so far no issues.
Love it all!!!
Thanks!
Fabulous darling!!
Thank you, Dahling!

Hi Cyd - love that! Thanks so much, yes - I'm sure they'll get to see it, once their time zone is awake. 🇸🇪

Well said. I do get her music going through my head. Can't get enough Furniture Fables.

The decoupage paper sanded down is absolutely gorgeous on this piece 😍 you did such a wonderful job! Always inspiring to watch your videos ❤

I love everything you did to the piece. Love the paint colors. The weathered decoupage paper makes the piece and love the shiny original pulls. Simple and Elegant. 👍👍
Thank you so much! 😊💙🙏
Omg, I love it. That mix of paint washes is just what that pine needed.
Your friends are going to want it back.

Outstanding transformation. So many paint layers. You were very patient with this gem and it turned out beautiful. 🌞
Many thanks, so great to hear that Debbie!! 😊💙🙏
Stunning! Maybe my favorite piece you have ever done!! ❤
Oh wow, thank you so much, Tracie!! 😊💙🙏
Gorgeous! I love the decoupage technique. Definitely going to try that! The layered paint wash was interesting too. thanks for always being so inspiring with your projects. :-)
Lovely to hear, thanks so much!! 😊💙🙏
Andy, watching you put up those little dialogs is a pleasure. It is theater and furniture upgrading all in one. Most enjoyable, thank you!
Thanks so much, I'm so glad you like my less than traditional combo/approach! 😊💙
BEAUTIFUL!😮
😂😂😂 Omg, I LOVE that!! Yes, I too think I heard those sighs or relief! So glad you liked those choices in the end, thanks so much Chalma!!
Stunning and a great tribute to your Swedish friends heritage. Loved the paint recipe, too. 💜
Thanks so much! 😊
Beautiful transformation! It truly is the same but different. I love the paint wash finish. The sanded paper is not to my taste, but it suits you and your home, so that's the important thing. I can appreciate the beauty of the piece without loving every little detail. Great job!
Thanks so much!! And totally get that...I actually wasn't sure if I wanted it crisp or weathered...maybe next year I'll change it up. 😊💙
You are absolutely right, ”kolli” means package, and is used especially in connection with a shipment by post, train, boat, etc.
Yay, thanks so much!
Beautiful! I love the subtle multiple colors displayed in the wood after the paint washes and the paper looks gorgeous.
Thanks so much!
Yay! Thank you so much, and so glad to hear from someone else who's sanded that fiber paper! 😊💙
This tells me that the acrylic paint used just sets on the wood…where Annie Sloan chalk paint penetrates the wood and adheres better for long lasting finish…with her wonderful and durable wax…my projects have lasted amazingly…love all your great ideas…this one is beautiful…
Stunning.....believe this is my favorite among all your projects; and that's saying something!!❤💘💘
WOW, thank you so much, Karen - that's so fantastic to hear!! 😊💙🙏
My family wants to know what I am watching, I keep yelling "She is taking it off"! I am a big fan of the stripping. I loved this video, the opening had me cracking up and the piece turned out great!
😂😂😂 So glad you enjoyed the stripping, thanks so much!!
Just beautiful Andy! I wish I could buy it from you! I prefer the shiny hardware; I think it goes better with the style of the piece. Loved it!
So great to hear, thanks so much! And so glad you liked those shined up pulls! 💙🙏😊
Beautiful decoupage technique and I like the wash with 2 shades of paint. Pine is a difficult wood to restore. Very Swedish!
Yay, thanks so much!! 😊💙
just perfect, wow, what a change. Love the wash and you gave me some pretty cool ideas with some decoupage paper and what to do with it. As always, thanks for sharing your videos.
So glad to hear it, thanks so much! 😊💙
Definitely the same but different. Not a fan of paper on the drawers but the paint wash looks very good, a very subtle effect, and the drawer pulls look great.
Thanks so much, and totally get that! 😊💙
Beautiful! I just joined late, at the end, but now I'm going back to watch the whole process!
Awesome! Thank you!
I felt sad when you began sanding the paper but was awed by the effect! It turned out beautifully! Thank you Andy. ❤
You’re welcome, and thank you! So glad you liked that effect in the end! 😊💙
No disrespect to your wonderful friends. Cosider sending them a large roll of Froggie Tape!

I think I could too! Thanks so much! 😊💙🙏
Love the piece! I love using those fibrous papers but never thought to distress it great look. I will have to try it out on a piece. Thanks for the tip!
So glad to hear that, thanks so much!
It’s perfect! Love the transformation!
Do you have to let the first coat of paint cure before whitewashing it?
Thanks so much! No - I did that second layer the very next day. (You could even do it the same day, after your first coat feels dry to the touch.) 😊
What a beauty! The only problem is that now she looks too fancy for flipflop storage! Love it!
😂🩴 Yay, thanks so much!!!
Hi Andy! This is one of my favorites that you have ever done. Love how it turned out. Thanks for sharing.
Oh I'm so glad to hear that, thanks so much, Ann! 😊💙
Hi Andy, what a beautiful transformation. Love it!!
Many thanks, Veronica!! 😊💙🙏
If that was paint "surgery", does that make you a paint "surgeon"?
Hmmm...yes, I guess it does! 😂🩺
Fabulous makeover. I love the color layering paint washes and the distressed decoupage. Top notch!!
Thank you so much! 😊💙

Thanks so much, Stefanie! Yes, I agree about the paint stripping, and LOVE your name choices! 🔥🤓
Watching all the sanding , washing, stripping, painting wipping, polishing, etc, you must arms like Popeye? Very lovely. Unique.
Lol, I wish!! Thanks! 😊💙
Oh Andy such a labour of ❤All that stripping and sanding 😜It turned out So Beautiful!

I loved everything about your little chest. Great job
Thank you!!
Andy, I loved the way you did the paper, sanded off around the edges. The colors are perfect! You really know what you’re doing. You’ve given me ideas for an old orangey pine Santa Fe style buffet I have been wanting to refresh! Thank you!
Oh I'm so glad, thanks so much! 🤓
