That "Girl!" takes me out EVERY TIME 🤣🤣😭😭😭
Omg me too 😂
Same
😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao I wonder if that was scripted. It seemed pretty authentic 😂
That killed me too 😂😂😂!
the line "you've got a job here for the rest of your life - if you want it!" is sooooo important. Johnny's reassuring Minny that they will always be a safe space for her, and that they will want her to be a permanent part of their lives, BUT, that she is free to choose that. She's not obligated to stay in their 'possession' for her entire life, like a slave. there's a beautiful nuance there.
I'm glad he did that. It shows he was aware of the times and they wanted no part of racist standards. Which is brave seeing whites would most likely berate them for this decision. And blacks too would look at this situation as patronizing. Oh they fake love you. No they truly appreciated her. And I liked that.
Plus, he pulled the chair for her!
I can say at that time in the US in that area, no white man would have ever done that to a black woman.
This came after a woman said her former boss had put her in her will, forcing her to work for her daughter when she passes. No one in town wanted to hire her after that, because they saw her as her boss’ possession.
@@houchi69That's the part I loved. When he pulled her chair for her. I always looked at this as a white savior movie, but that one scene with him doing that with the chair showed something other than white savior.
Honestly, to me most of the movie is a white savoir flick, but I could never shake how mutual and genuine the bond between Mini and Cecilia was. They were real friends who cared about the others well being. Even though Mini was at first resistant to it, Cecilia didn’t let it change that she always saw Mini as a fellow human.
I also love how much of a gentleman Johnny is with Minny. She's not used to it, having an abusive husband. She's even surprised at how gentle and polite he's with her.
What on earth did he see in that other girl. It’s a good thing they broke up
@@StaceyChamberlain-kf1qxmy guess is that Hilly wore a mask around him and acted like the type of person he liked (or maybe she wasn’t as bad as her adult self when she was younger). Thankfully, whatever the case, Johnny ended his relationship with Hilly.
I’ve heard actual cases of ppl whose partners act caring, respectful and thoughtful. But once they’ve hit a certain milestone, sometimes it’s marriage, the mask comes off. And they’re left wondering which one is their partner’s actual face…
No-she’s not used to those kind of people being kind to her, which is why she told Hilly if Mr. Johnny found her there he’d kill her, bc that was the norm back then
No, Minnie’s reaction in this scene has absolutely nothing to do with her being a battered spouse; her fear is that she is about to be lynched by a white man for trespassing on his property. Remember when Minnie learned that Celia was not going to tell Johnny she hired a maid, Minnie was concerned that Johnny would kill her in cold blood if he were ever to come home and find her, a strange black woman in his house.
@@michaelcoffey4961 ya but it also means that she never knew Johnny was actually this gentle and a gentlemen to a black maid like her. She is most likely finding out the contrast between Hilly’s family to Celia’s. Cuz Hilly fired her from her job just for using the house toilet cuz clearly she was trying to separate the white and colored people. minny was expecting Johnny and even Celia to be racist like all white people but Celia/Johnny treated Minny as their own by cooking her a nice meal, offering her a job for the rest of her life just so she can free herself and her kids from her abusive husband🤷♀️
Johnny and Celia were the best characters in this movie. They’re the epitome of how easy it is to just show someone kindness. And Minny was hands down my favorite.
Agreed. I would also add that Johnny’s character should have played a larger role in the story.
I like Mrs. Walter's, she laughed at her daughter for eating 2 slices of Special pie.
Also what a vast difference where and how you grew up can make.
Everybody loved Celia
Such a genuine show of humanity in this scene. Our differences don’t have to separate us when we know we all have the ability to love and show kindness
One thing that gets to me is how much trust Minnie has in Celia that when she thought she was in danger from her mistress' husband she immediately called to her knowing if she really was, Celia would have been there for her
Also! In the books, Celia has mad hands
@@princessazulaofthefirenati5870Growing up in the gh*tto be like...
@@princessazulaofthefirenati5870THERES A BOOK? is it good? if so I want to read it, this is my favorite movie
@@princessazulaofthefirenati5870Oh what I'd pay to see Celia knock out someone who came for Minny. That girl would hunt anyone down for her 😂
it’s one of my favorite things about this scene, she truly felt safe with her
This scene just changed Minny's perspective towards 'white people'. Minny and Celia actually save each other's lives.
All Celia wanted was a friend.
Actually her perspective began to change when she met Skeeter.
Skeeter helped too, I imagine
They ended up being what they both needed, a friend that believed in them.
I don’t think it changed Minny’s perspective toward white people in general. It helped her divorce Celia from the white people who have treated her like a slave rather than a person. And there’s still plenty of people like that in that era and even in present day, so Minny’s caution is not unwarranted. This meal just encouraged her to be less skeptical because she realized she was in the company of decent human beings.
To Johnny Minnie was more than a maid. Minnie was there when Celia needed her the most because the other women didn't wanted to be friends with her due to Hilly.
Yeah, both of them have been burned by hilly-hilly needed her ass handed to her and put in her place
I think most of it was they were afraid of Hilly. So they just followed along.
@@Vixen743and Minnie did. 😂😂
More importantly...no such thing as "colour"...and from Celia, "Ï wanted to thankyou"...
Same with Skeeter, she went off to college and realized there was a bigger world out there. She didn't fit in the small town anymore. Also, Hilly couldn't control Skeeter or Johnny, and that was her problem. That's also why Hilly went after Abilene because she couldn't touch Minny because Johnny wouldn't listen to Hilly if she tried. He actually loved Celia and didn't care where she stood on the social ladder as opposed to Hilly.
What made me cry was, Johnny pulled out the seat for Minnie and Celia served her. Wow.
Because, to him, she was a Southern woman deserving of respect. We need more of that kind of man.
That’s so important for Minny to because her character has been through so much, she deserves to be spoiled
Aside from the maids, Celia is my favorite character in this film. She was real.
Yes and skeeter too.
She was the one with true class.
Am I the only one who loves Minny's line "No, I can't let you eat no more cornpone, Mr. Johnny."?
Not only this shows her respect to her cooking but also to Mr. Foote. A man who shouldn't even know her working there.
You can't possibly think that you're the ''only'' one who noticed and loved that. People can't comment on every single line in this scene
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849its their damn right to comment on whatever they damn please!!!! Just like you did Dim Wit!!!!!!!!
God it would be so peaceful to have a guy like Johnny in one's life.
Edit - would it sound desperate if I say I WANT JOHNNY TOO AND SOON.
Right!
Lord I wish
Haha me too 😂🎉
Yes it was
No wonder Hilly was a real bitch about losing Johnny 😂😂😂
While The Help can be seen as a white savior movie on many parts especially the writing the book part, Minnie and Celia was so much more than race, its two women saving each other. If anything, we know that Minnie saved Celia’s life first and the gratitude Celia gave had saved Minnie’s life. It’s two women supporting each other.
The “writing the book part” was literally my least favorite aspect of the movie. If we had just focused on Minnie, Aibileen, and their stories without this Skeeter person, that would have been great.
@@mechadoggy I would say one of the biggest plot change is that they made Skeeter already aware of the segregation happening. In the book, Skeeter was just looking for something different to write about, and she discovered and slowly learned about the actual segregation happening in her district. Book Skeeter was the audience's eyes to learn about the segregation, it then made sense of her evolution in the journey. The movie Skeeter basically comes in as very white saviour syndrome.
It can only be seen as a “white saviour” movie by people looking to be permanently offended. Wonder if we could call William Wilberforce a white saviour. I call him hero.
The actress who played Celia wanted to write and direct a movie about their relationship in the future.
Actually black and white people saved each other but there was still issues that remained in society that unfortunately still exist to a lesser degree today.
2:30 Minnie realizes that Celia loves her and appreciates her. What a beautiful friendship,
0:29 the “girllll 💅”: 😭😭😭
😂😂😂😂😂😂
This line sent me bc it’s such a small missed detail 😂😂😂😂
I love how Johnny told Minnie that she had a job their for life if she wanted it. He gave her a choice to choose her own path. It maybe a tiny detail but it speaks great volumes of how amazing this movie really is
It expresses his sincere sense of dignity for her
Not really a ''tiny detail'', an important part of their conversation
I love the sense of kindness and respect on both sides with Mr Johnny, his wife Elia and Minnie.
If only there were more people like Celia and Johnny Foote out there, then world would be a much better place to live in.
.....Yah, uhm there were, have you heard of non stereotypes, the scary moment you pass the damn waves and finally enter the ocean that is the past, the realistic past that goes beyond the surface.
The hell are you even talking about....the most racist nations today, are the non white ones.
There are lots of good people out there but unfortunately just as many bad.
it’s the fact johnny’s so thankful for minnie because his wife was getting better my heart 😫😫
This was genuinely my favorite part of this movie. Their relationship was amazing, and the development between the two characters was incredible.
Same. When I need to feel like the world doesn’t suck as much as it seems I will look for this scene.
@@msplaingray Oh please. The world is neutral in itself, it doesn't ''suck''. So do people because you can find all sorts of people. If you're one of those people who's affected by news, well it's not about you but about those people whose reality you read about. If it's about people - well, again. They are all different. I live with chronic illness that my country doesn't even recognize (because it has bigger problems) - yet I don't blame it on the ''world''. Neither should you.
Celia and Jonny are wonderful, kind people. And when Jonny pulled out the chair for Minny to sit, I think that shows Minny will always be welcome at their dinning table
You would automatically think given how much Celia wants to keep everything hidden from Johnny that he’d be like every other guy in town. But no. He’s actually a very kind hearted man who loves his wife very deeply.
You can see why he left Hilly to begin with.
It really surprised me! Glad to see at least one husband in the movie that is kind.
The thing I love about that too is how unable and unwilling Hilly is to understand that. She is convinced she's the cream of the crop and it makes no sense to her why a man like Johnny would leave her, when it's so obvious from the outside. Minny, Celia, and Johnny were the best part of this.
I’m glad he didn’t end up with Hilly. Too many good men end marrying the Hilly’s of the world and end up ruining their kind nature. Vis a versa for women. I’m glad Celia and Johnny were a couple. Even if it was just a movie😂
Yes! I love the atypical husband figure in the 60's! It really was then that men were begun to be shown in a softer light.
@@christopherpericolosi-king4979 I'm sure men were shown in a ''softer'' light even before that. At least outside Hollywood, and even within it.
It is the little things the actors do that make this scene so good and heartwarming:
- Celia constantly checking on the table and how everything is because everything has to look perfect for Minnie.
- Her look and tone of absolute PRIDE saying that she cooked everything, showing the woman who taught her that she did pay attention to her.
- Minnie's looks when Celia is saying that she did that for her, not understanding these people showing kindness and care, and still being sceptical, asking if she is not losing her job.
- Celia's look of confusion and fear seeing Minnie think they do not want her in their lives anymore and going away immediately when Johnny speaks.
- The look on Minnie telling you how much it means for her that "if you want it" line.
- The child-like smile in Celia when Minnie compliments her Meringue. The way she BEAMS, It tells you that for her it means the WORLD that the woman who taught her says she did a good job (my FAVORITE part) and that "just the way you taught me" delivered with such pride and conviction.
My favorite scene from this movie.
Celia was always my favorite character in this movie. She represented all that was good with the world, laughed so easily, forgave so easily and love just poured from her. Johnny won the lottery with that girl! And Minny with her trust issues, but her kindness and strength overcoming...I am glad she became a part of this family. Some say family cannot be chosen, but I don't agree. THIS is a family.
Family is chosen, no more by blood.
I’m so glad that she moved in with her babies into Celia and Johnny Foote’s house ❤️ loved this scene and their lovely relationship x
Where is that documented, that Minny moved herself and her children in with Celia and Johnny?
@@valgrex964in the book
at the end of the book if I'm remembering it right@@valgrex964
Oh I didn't realise she was supposed to have moved in there! Is that from the book, or is it a part of the film that I've forgotten?
@@thegreenmanofnorwich it's in the book. She leaves LeRoy and moves her kids in to Celias and Celia has her dream of a full table she gets to feed.
Octavia Spencer is such an incredible actress. She conveys so much emotion in her silence, it gives me goosebumps.
Abilene, “That table of food gave Mini the strength she needed.“ So true, love Mini and glad Johnny and Celia are there for her.
Could not blame her why she went on fight and flight mode. 0:21 the way he called her here sounded aggressive 😂
I absolutely love this scene
It So heart felt🫶🏽
It always makes me cry 😢
Agreed absolutely
Awww she cooked a meal all by herself for Minny, I love that!!!
Celia just wanted a friend, thats why she was happy minny took the job. To be fair being isolated by your community especially after loosing your babies....thatd be so incredibly lonely and depressing. Minny had so much empathy for celia and i think thats why we love these two in this movie ❤
I ❤the fact they didn’t treat Minnie like a “maid” this moment shows it’s wonderful ppl in the world especially during that time
Celia put LOVE in that food because Minnie SHOWED LOVE to her! I love this moment!
I never saw such beautiful, soulful and expressive eyes as Octavia Spencer's. She is amazing as Minny
Her eyes were the first thing I noticed about her.
I love ms Celia’s sweet giggle at the compliment Minnie gave her. High praise and a confidence booster for that sweet young woman who was shunned by everyone in town.
It's nice to see Minnie seeing her student excel, and to allow herself to be cared for, at least a little bit.
I'm crying. I wish I had a man like Johnny in my life.
Celia DESERVED a man like Johnny, not Hilly
“That’s a mile high meringue Mrs.Celia?” Always gets me
This scene is a classic. They way Mike says girl is hilarious 🤣
Now you can see how Johnny chose Celia....they both cared for others so much
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen this, I get literal goose bumps every single time. This movie is so incredible and should be a mandatory watch!
"You wanna put that stick down?"
"Mm-mm."
😂
Beautiful scene. The healing Celia receives through Minny and the pride she shows in being able to return the blessing. ❤
Minny got lucky with them, she deserved these and more
And Celia's face and response when Minnie asked "so I'm not losing my job?" Celia loved Minnie so much, and vice versa
Those were decent, humble human beings. The relationship between Celia and Minny was extraordinary. The Help should be shown in history classes in school. Teens could learn a lot that not all people are racist. I wish in my day they had movies like this, I probably would have gotten A's in my history classes. Such a fantastic cast for this film. 👏
“Leave that” - god, I cry every time.
The respect that Celia had for Minny was beautiful! Love this scene ❤
Celia saying “just the way you taught me” after Minny asked if she cooked it through all the way shows so much respect and gratitude towards Minny and everything Celia learned from her.
Minny and Celia’s relationship is so special to me
Johnny is a man of a rare breed patient and understanding. That’s true love; knowing what’s going on and knowing what’s best for your spouse no matter the climate
This was such a beautiful scene. It just warmed my heart
No matter what I’m doing this scene brings a big smile to my face and warms my ❤
“You knew I was here the whole time?”
“Fried chicken and okra the first night.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is the sweetest scene I've ever seen in cinema history. ❤❤❤
Celia b Johnny are so sweet and kind to each other n to Minnie, too. I wish there were millions of Johnnys out there!!!😃❤️
THIS is what humanity truly needs. Love.
I love how this scene answers the questions the movie had earlier on about the Johnny-Celia-Hilly triangle. We’re told early on that Celia thinks Johnny married her only because she was pregnant. And that the two of them hadn’t been together for very long. So there’s the question, right from the beginning, of how happy Celia and Johnny’s marriage really is. Especially given just how different Celia and Hilly are.
So it’s nice that we see that he married Celia because he genuinely loved her. And it suggests why he broke up with Hilly.
Celia is a sweetheart, if she didn’t have those fertility problems, I’m sure she would have been an amazing mother.
My most favorite scene. Genuine love and friendship. And this scene gives me so much ASMR. Love it!
This is one of those movies that I can watch, OVER AND OVER again and never get tired of it.
I watched this as a teenager and didn’t understand how special this scene was. Now in my 30s, I’m crying at this scene. So sentimental. They were so sweet and kind to her.
Celia, is just genuinely one of my favorite characters to watch, she's so kind and gentle, she's soft spoken, and sweet, but still fun and crazy, she's the kind of woman I aspire to be
As much as this movie is amazing for the writing of the book and the strength it took to do that, this is the story that truly made my heart swell.
I love the look on Minny's face when they said that she had a job as long as she wanted. From concern to pleasure, even though it was a slight nuance of a smile.
I love how Minny taught Celia to cook, and didn’t only do it for her.
Minnie and Cecilia were my favorite in the movie. So cute ❤
This was a beautiful scene. ❤
This is, for me, the most touching scene in the whole movie.
Ms Celia reminds me of Lottie from Princess and the Frog. Shes very sweet and jolly 💖
How I feel the story ended:
Minnie and all her children moved into the guest house on Celia’s property.
Abilene went to work alongside Skeeter in NY.
In the book that's how it ended for Minny and Celia. The big empty house was full of Minny's children which Celia and Johnny enjoyed. It didn't say if they tried for kids again but I think they did once Celia's health got better with Minny around
You CANNOT beat southern cookin. Great movie
Celia shows such grace and class. We should all be Celias ..
It’s so easy to hear about the bad of things that people do, the ugliness of humanity if you will, but then to see something like this, even if it’s on a movie screen, can show you not all hope of humanity is or should be lost- treat people as you would want them to treat you if it were you or anyone in your family- love, kindness goes a lot further in this world than hate and selfishness-❤️❤️❤️
this is my favorite part of the entire movie. it still gives me chills and warms my heart.
Celia smile is so pure❤❤
This scene gets me every time
This scene makes me cry every time. We are all here to lift each other up, not create division.
I am so happy for them. They are good people, and they are good for each other!
1:34 dude, you forgot the groceries
I bet Minny and her descendants became close with Celia’s they worked together for many years and Minny and Celia were lifelong friends
No matter how many times I watch this scene it brings tears to my eyes 🥲😊🥰
Bloody hell. Get onion juice in my eyes every time I watch this movie, particularly this scene 😢😆
Celia's lil hands setting things just so on the table before Minnie walked in 😍 What a curie pie
This is such a sweet moment.
All I see are women in these comments. I’m a guy, am I allowed to love this movie? It’s honestly one of my favorite movies. It’s a top 3 movie for me for sure. I think it’s one of the best movies ever made.
Why would you not be allowed to love this movie?😅
How beautiful and amazing humanity can be if we are respectful of each other and just see each other as humans first. Both Celia and Mini are real humans beings who made a great friendship based on mutual respect and understanding
I could watch this scene a million times and it would still pull at my heart strings. ❤
Can we just take a second to talk about the fact that he said "girl.. 💅 " that way?😂
These two are like the few and true good people of the movie. Caring and helping without outer motives.
Such a beautiful scene
My eyes welled up. It is a beautiful scene.
“that’s a mile high meringue” 🖤
That is a beautiful compliment coming from Minnie. Meringues can be really tricky, and she did such a good job on it. ❤😊
This scenes makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. The journey and growth these two women went through was inspiring. A scene and story I will NEVER forget. ❤❤❤
Between crying from joy and right after of sorrow, this film hit me right in the feels
I love Octavia Spencer. This is the best scene. Best families!
One of my favorite scenes. The chemistry between these characters gets me. My favorite part of the movie.
Love this. So uplifting.
Never gets old! Teary every time…
This was a great movie, so much talent.
"WHY ARE YOU RUNNIN, WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?!"
What a wonderful couple. Their friendships are real.
Out of a film full of amazing scenes, this is my favorite.
This film was really good and I was in tears most of the time. Jessica chastain played this part so well as did Octavia Spencer they saved eachother and became friends more than employee and employer
