Married yes but Archie treated his wife terrible. That doesnt need to be mirrored. People need to understand the depiction of marriage is not enough. A healthy relationship respect between the couple has to be shown as well.
Me 2, still love it! It takes me back to my childhood. I can remember coming home from school rushing to get my homework done! In spite of her stepdaughter not keeping up her home that is a testament of the Ms. Ester, I loved her talents and the ground she paved for other African Americans!
As J.J got older he matured quite a bit...Him having two loving supportive parents was a big help along the way... Considering how his J.J character was supposed to only be 17 years old. Not a mature 21 year old when the series debuted..There are alot of kids who could relate to him because they was kinda like him.. being Creative... Maybe they are wonderful...have great potential...Show great Promise in a different way....Maybe like J.J was... they were not the most scholasticlly/academically inclined..Michael and Thelma was that way. ..J.J. had Artistic Talent/ his personality is also artistically inclined....He would do well in the Creative career field..Sometimes Parents have to embrace who their kids really are and the gifts skills and talents....Great abilities that are God given...It's sad the family couldn't keep her house up...Those things happen...Maybe they gave it a good try...Hope she loved and enjoyed living there while she was alive..
I think she played in Gone With The Wind as a kitchen worker but I don't think she got credited for her part. Hattie Daniels was also in that movie. I liked her on the shows, Maude and Good Times and in the movie, Driving Miss Daisy. She died shelling peas and I cry every time I see that part.
The description of JJ is incorrect. First he was a high school student, so why did he have to work. Second, there were plenty of episodes of JJ working. He had the food delivery job, he had the movie usher job, he sold his artwork and had commissioned jobs for his art (he was paid $250 to paint mural for a black owned bank), he taught art lessons to his peers, he had a job as a greeting card illustrator and last a comic strip cartoonist for which he sold his comic strip character Dyno Woman...
One of my favorite Florida Evans moments was when she got Michael out of the street gang by threatening the gang members with a baseball bat. She was tough, beautiful, wise, and loving. Another favorite was the episode with the Black doctor) played by Paula Kelly) who did make house calls in the ghetto, that is until she met Florida Evans. There are many more favorites. Esther Rolle was a beautiful talent. May she continue to rest in peace.
So sad. But, she left a wonderful legacy. Not with just her Good Times portraya, but on Maude, etc. Among her acting roles and one of my favorite portrayals by Esther Rolle was her performance in Driving Miss Daisy as the maid and friend to Morgan Freeman her understated portrayal was quietly beautiful down to the moment she died while snapping peas. Thank you and Rest in Peace.

@@yvonneallison8521 So true, my mother made me promise her that upon her changing of realms, to keep her home. The house is a huge, old fashioned mansion, with original oak and red wood throughout the home. Stained glass windows, just a gem. They did not understand black families. A strong devoted mother and wife like Florida would never leave her children for a new husband to go to Arizona and it would have taken years for her to date again. They made her look like a white woman of that era.
Exactly. I DON’T think she would have even remarried at all. And the kids definitely wouldn’t accept another man over their Dad either as good of a Father James was.
@jackievaughn1771 Bruh, she left her stepdaughter $3 million. The up keep 2 that small home was probably no more than $20,000 if she had kept it up from the BEGINNING 🤦🏾♀️
If Esther Rolle didn't keep it up, her daughter didn't need to. The way that house looks, it should be torn down. It's a material thing. If lives can be lost, so can a house. Times change. People change.

The show was never the same after Norman Lear killed off John Amos’s character James Evans Sr. A father he didn’t want on the show in the first place.
Yeees he should have paid him his worth I will never forget the episode when he died she should have gotten a Emmy for that show.
Not only that, but they made her new husband own a fix it shop, something James wanted, but never got.
