Friends had 236 episodes and it wasnt run in the 80s when we had too many good shows to watch. Friends was ahead of a small crowd and that was manipulated. They did the same to the Orignal friends/a black show Living Single. Just saw a doc on that.
Absolutely! This was when seasons were actually a full year, beginning in September and ending in March /April/May. Now shows have multiple seasons within a year. Times were different. Better then. Quality shows.
Sometimes sitcoms just run their course. The Jeffersons lasted for eleven seasons. Sandford and Son lasted for six and was cancelled because there were contract disputes with Redd Foxx. Good Times was cancelled after six seasons because it became "The JJ Show," which got old. None of them were cancelled for "no reason." It's no different than why sitcoms with white characters are cancelled.
There was not a scene that got them canceled. The writers felt 1:05 The Jeffersons had ran its course and wanted something different with a younger crowd
"The Jeffersons" was taken off the air primarily because its ratings declined significantly over time, dropping below the top 30, leading to the show's cancellation after its final season in 1985; this was further compounded by cast changes, including Paul Benedict leaving for a period during the series run.
I can understand the idea that it would’ve been hard to believe George and Louise as a married couple at first. I’m glad they stayed with it. It was a great show.
As a gay man , Sherman Hensley played a straight man better than any straight man, that's one of the things that made him a stellar actor. The other thing was his ability to do the 'SLOP" Better than anyone's uncle at the family reunion. 😅😂😅
@FTYC2022 My question as well. Lighter skinned Black men do marry dark-skinned sisters. You wouldn't know it by watching movies and commercials though.
As a child I remember the episode of the Jeffersons where George offered to donate a kidney to a bigoted white man, and when he was wheeled out of surgery having been given the kidney, he said "you should have let me die." I don't think anyone can find this lost episode.
If my memory is correct, George doesn't give the bigot a kidney, George gives the bigot mouth to mouth resuscitation. When the bigot finds out that George saved his life with mouth to mouth, his response is " you should have let me died"!
Let me clear this up for you. The "kidney" episode was the episode when George's cousin Dusty needed a kidney. The episode that you're referring to is when the KKK had a meeting in their building. During the meeting, Grand Dragon (or whatever the hell he was) suffered a heart attack. Being that George knew how to perform CPR, he reluctantly did it and saved his life. When the KKK came to....that's when he gave that line. As a kid watching that episode, I really wish that George gave that mam his heart's desire. 😂😂😂😂
I was verbally bullied from 1st to 14th Grade High School. I went to a black inner-city school and from Grade 1 to Highschool Senior. The Jeffersons was my comfort zone.
I am 11 years older than my little sister. The first snowday we had from school, I woke her up by what I call, "doing the Jefferson's on the bed" & then told her to go back to sleep because I wanted to go back to sleep too. Such a great show & cast.
Key takeaways: The show lost popularity in 1980, went from top 20 to top 30 - issues with screen writers - law suit because someone else said that the show idea was stolen.
Ratings started to drop after George and Tom became close friends on the show. Sherman spoke up to Lear that he did not want to continue calling Tom derogatory names.
There was no episode that got the show cancelled. The show had a nice, long run. It ended because Isabel Sanford was ready to be finished. End of story.
The sad thing I learned after this was over is that Carroll O'Connor and Sherman hemsley were talking about doing a new show with Archie and George becoming partner's in a limousine company. O'CONNOR talked about it a little and it sounded like it would have been hilarious but it never happened. 🤯
So Isabelle Sanford was 52 in 1970. That's hard to believe. I would have guessed she was in her thirties. By 1980 she was 62? And Helmsley was 42? They looked the same age.
That’s because they made Sherman Helmsley look older for the role just as they did Estelle Getty in The Golden Girls. She and Bea Arthur were actually the same age and Betty White was the oldest cast member.
@@marrbaby1 My point was not that he looked old but that she looked so young for her age. He looked in his 40's in those early episodes. She looked younger than him.
