Percy Tyrone Sledge (November 25, 1940 - April 14, 2015) was an American R&B, soul and gospel singer. He is best known for the song "When a Man Loves a Woman", a No. 1 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles charts in 1966. It was awarded a million-selling, Gold-certified disc from the RIAA.
Having previously worked as a hospital orderly in the early 1960s, Sledge achieved his strongest success in the late 1960s and early 1970s with a series of emotional soul songs. In later years, Sledge received the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's Career Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
Sledge died of liver cancer at his home in Baton Rouge on April 14, 2015, at the age of 74. His interment was in Baton Rouge's Heavenly Gates Cemetery.

Percy Sledge had such a beautiful soulful voice and that song "When A Man Loves A Woman" is still played on the R&B & Soul channel on XM radio and I stop and listen to it. RIP Percy, you are not going to be forgotten. Very sad to see baby's markers, RIP little Angels....

I have always loved this song. I really noticed it more after Michael Bolton sang it. This is one of those songs that when you think of it, you can hear the artist's voice sing it. Percy and Michael's both. RIP Percy.

Percy came to my country, the then Rhodesia in 1972 , I was a very small boy but then even I, could feel that the mood in the capital city, Salisbury, was steaming hot that a mega star was in town. Percy Sledge was one of the greatest soul singers in the world every year we used to look forward to seeing him for Valentine's Day when he was booked at the casino here in Louisiana one of the best entertainers you could ever come across especially we love listening to him sing When a Man Loves a Woman he always has so much feeling in that song why you are there in Louisiana why you don't go visit good old Fats Domino

Not really surprised to see mausoleums like that in that area, due to heavy flooding being a factor in that state. Katrina happened and a lot of coffins were floating etc.... this one is really well done and pretty... I am sending a virtual hug after this one Scott and the Lil Angels🙏🏾🕊
Baton rouge doesnt have heavy flooding like that. The only time we seen that was in 2016. Katrina happen in new orleans cause they’re below sea level and its like a bowl so when hurricanes happen they’re very flood prone.
Percy reminds me of my aunt and uncle. Percy was their favorite. My uncle passed Nov 20, 2020.

Great video and yes as I got older I started appreciated music that I had overlooked when I was younger although in real time I was a fan of Percy Sledge when his song came onto the radio playlists. Loved it then and still do. Bolton did okay with his version but there's no substitute for Percy's version. Thanks for the entertainment you provide, Scott. You're a good man.

Awesome Job Scott,thank-you so much for doing this,he came to my home town when I lived in Jacksonville TX,he performed at a honky-tonk Bar/Dance/Club called the "Caliente" that my mom use to go to when I was little,she told me of a time when there was a Severe thunderstorm and he was singing inside and the place lost power,well they lit candles and he stayed and continued to play......True Story,but anyway thanks again Scott
