Coy Luther "Luke" Perry III (October 11, 1966 - March 4, 2019) was an American actor. He became a teen idol for playing Dylan McKay on the Fox television series Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1995, and again from 1998 to 2000. He also starred as Fred Andrews on the CW series Riverdale. He had guest roles on notable shows such as Criminal Minds, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Simpsons, and Will & Grace, and also starred in several films, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), 8 Seconds (1994), The Fifth Element (1997), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), his final feature performance.
In 1990, Perry got the role of the brooding millionaire's son Dylan McKay on Fox's teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210. He originally auditioned for the role of Steve Sanders, but lost to Ian Ziering. With this role, Perry became a popular teen idol; a riot broke out when 10,000 teen girls attended an August 1991 autograph session at The Fashion Mall at Plantation, causing him to leave after 90 seconds. While starring in 90210, Perry won a supporting role in the original film version of Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992). He also starred in Terminal Bliss in 1992, and as Lane Frost in 8 Seconds in 1994.
In an attempt to find more mature roles, he decided to leave Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1995. That year, he took a part in the Italian film Vacanze di Natale '95, playing himself. Although he announced that 90210 was behind him, his absence lasted for only three years, and he returned to the show in 1998. During this time, Perry starred in the independent film Normal Life opposite Ashley Judd, starred in the TV science fiction movie Invasion (1997), and Riot (1997), a drama about the 1992 Los Angeles riots. He had a small role in Luc Besson's science fiction adventure film The Fifth Element (1997). In 1998, he returned to 90210, where he remained as a permanent special guest star through the show's final season in 2000. In 1999, he starred in the film Storm.
He said of his role on Beverly Hills, 90210 as Dylan McKay: "I'm going to be linked with him until I die, but that's actually just fine. I created Dylan McKay. He's mine," but did not reprise his role in the spin-off. He stated: "When you're in the professional acting business, you have to look into all these offers, and I don't mean anything bad about it but creatively it's something I have done before and I don't know how it will benefit me if I do it again." Perry said the fact that the show's longtime producer Aaron Spelling was not involved in the revival was critical: "The difference between CW bringing something back and Aaron Spelling doing something is significant. And I cannot do it without Aaron."[18] However, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, and Tori Spelling reprised their roles in the 2008 revival of the series.
Perry suffered a massive ischemic stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles on February 27, 2019. After a second stroke, his family decided to remove him from life support, and he died on March 4, 2019 at age 52. He was buried at the Perry Family Farm in Vanleer, Tennessee, where he owned a home since 1995, and was buried in an eco-friendly mushroom burial suit. The company producing the suit claims that it would be able to remove polluting toxins from the body while naturally breaking it down.

This was lovely to watch, Luke always seemed like a genuinely nice guy who never let his fame go to his head. Loved him in everything he done, obviously with Beverly Hills 90210 being such a massive show in the 90s it was how I and probably a lot of other people were introduced to him, I loved the show. The reboot was definitely doomed from the start and then Luke passed away, a devastating loss he was so young 🥺 but I still watched it but it was woeful I couldn't get into it. Luke was the reason I watched the original show back in the day. It's mad to think that he auditioned for the part of Steve Sanders which obviously went to Ian Ziering and Fox cast Luke for a small storyline over 2 or 3 episodes but Aaron Spelling saw something in him and insisted on having him play a bigger role and be a part of the main cast. I know he's no longer here either but will always be thankful to Mr. Spelling for making that decision.

When I was in high school (@30 years ago) my friend and I made the pilgrimage to Fredericktown from Columbus, Ohio (big time trip for a 17 year old, lol). It was around Christmas time and we thought he would be home for the holidays. We drove around and somehow we picked a house and thought it was his (I don't remember why we picked that house) and rang the doorbell. Nobody answered so we will never know if we had the right place. On the road out of town we thought we saw him driving in a big jeep or a Bronco and we screamed our heads off. 🤣 Anyhow, it was a long time ago and I look back fondly...We really liked Luke and I was really sorry to hear of his passing. Thanks for the video.

90210 was my show in the 90's, and I watched it solely for Luke. When he left, I left. When he came back, I did too. I'd love to rewatch the series, or buy it on dvd, but since they replaced all the copyrighted music I just can't. The music was selected for a reason, and to just replace it with generic crap cheapens it. In the episode after Brenda and Dylan break up Brenda spends the whole episode listening to REM's Losing My Religion on repeat. This is iconic. You'd never know this by watching the only version of the show that's currently available though, because the song isn't there anymore. None of them are. Because of this I'm robbed of getting to rewatch one of my favorite shows in it’s original form. The copyright laws need to change as this has happened with so many shows. At least with 90210 I can still remember what songs used to be there, but with other shows I have no idea, I just know that what I'm hearing is wrong. These shows deserve to be preserved and made available as they originally aired, not in their current Frankensteined together forms. Sorry for the rant guys. It's just that I love the show so much, primarily because of Luke, and to see it reduced to what it is now is so irritating. RIP Luke

Luke Perry's passing shocked me. He was still young at 52 with plenty of work ahead of him. He was doing well on Riverdale which did a better job with explaining that his character passed away. It was odd how 90210 did not directly mention it as if it was a secret. I watched the reboot & I'm not surprised it was cancelled. They should've a continuation of them as adults living their lives. I didn't follow the series that way. But Luke caught my eye right away. I like outsiders a lot. And he reminded me of Jimmy Dean.♥️
His death was a great big scare. Sad that he went on his journey so soon. 😢🕊
Thank you for visiting him for us.

Beverly Hills 90210, was & is still probably my favorite TV Series ever. Dylan McKay was my favorite character from The show. I always wanted to be like Dylan McKay & Luke Perry. His death really hit me hard, even though he wasn't family & close to me, I felt a connection to him through the show & other films & series he was in. Thanks for doing this video Scott, & showing us his school & ranch. RIP Luke Perry AKA Dylan McKay 🙏🕊️🕊️

It was fall September of 1990 when I was first introduced to Jason Priestley and 90210. I was 10 years old. Man the 90s at that age just starting out experiencing everything there was just nothing like it. You're right it was a big deal. As big as the Beatles, at least for us. I read everyone saying he was our James Dean and he really was. The minute I saw Luke Perry I was like man, this guy is cooler than cool. He just was the essence of cool and didn't get any cooler than that. Even his character was just pure and true. You wanted to be his best friend you wanted to know that guy. Watching through the years you truly felt like you got to know him like he was your friend. Your best friend. I know it hit me hard just like losing a best friend or family member. A loved one for sure. It was so hard to believe. Without Luke Perry in this world it felt truly like the end of an era the beginning of the end of my Youth. I had just turned 40 when he passed and it made me remember all those amazing years watching him and learning what it was to be as cool as he was. Thank you for revisiting my youth and making another beautiful video brother. Watching you I feel like I really know what a true and great person you are to and in another place I feel we would be friends. You're the man Scott and keep up your gift. Peace, be well and respect brother. Good journey always my friend and thank you again 🙏✌️ R.I.P. Luke Perry forever and always

I’m only 18 but I remember watching Beverly Hills 90210 for the 1st time in 2017/2018 because my mum watched it in the 90s and man I’ve got to tell you that Luke Perry’s 1st scene as Dylan McKay, he just had something about him that you knew he was a talented actor as he sucked you into every scene you saw him in. I’ve watched the film 8 Seconds and that movie made me feel emotional with how Luke could play this character that was a real life person. RIP Luke you had so much more to give to the world and your family. You were talented and humble. You were only 1 year older than my dad and I can’t even imagine losing him.

Ok you have earned my Sub. Your comment about even though we don't personally know celebrities, there are a few whose passing really touches us. For me that 1 was Ronnie James Dio, I never knew the man offstage, all I truly knew about him was what his handlers put out. Yet when he passed I cried as though he had been a lifelong friend. It really hurt, kudos to you for your understanding of how deeply these people effect us
