    I rode this train eastbound from Vancouver to Toronto last April (April 2018). It is a marvelous train, even better than the description here. The "Glacier Park" was on my train as well, and because it was April I was able to spend most of my ride there. The sleeper is marvelous, and the food is simply spectacular. Three meals a day, three menu choices per meal, each and every one different and each and every one delicious. Actual tables, actual linens, marvelous wine, delicious food -- more like a cruise than a train.
    My trip was great, very affordable (by Amtrak standards) -- mine was about $2,500 US -- and WAY better than any train I've taken anywhere (I love trains and ride them all the time).

      It was definitely something to experience first hand and it certainly exceeded my expectations. We had a significant delay on our journey, but this was the first time I saw passengers actually happy as it served for an extended stay on the train (at least most of them were happy). Thank you for sharing!

      $2500? I must have been looks at the wrong sites. I was getting quotes of $4k

      @TrevorEMayo 5 років тому +1

      Very affordable by Amtrak standards?? That's blatantly incorrect. I know there are differences in the subsidies and passenger volumes between the two systems, but a trip from Washington D.C. to Seattle as a single in a sleeper on the Empire Builder and Cardinal would cost 1/3 as much. The only thing better on the Canadian would be the meals. That doesn't mean the Canadian Train isn't worth it to many people however, it is definitely not cost competitive.

      Just had a look at Prestige Class prices for two. ~12.000 CAD --- Ooops... :-D
      But anyway: No doubt that this would be money well spent!

      Vancouver has been the superhero capital of Canada since hosting the 2010 winter Olympics by creating a lateral entry program for superheroes from all over the country Canada wide that are interested in relocating to bc and establishing Vancouver and the lower mainland as their base of operations for example Winnipeggers and Torontonians prefer Vancouver as their base of operation because of the warm weather in bcs lower mainland and Vancouver is the first city in Canadian history to create a lateral superhero entry program and the 2010 winter Olympics and being the superhero capital of Canada will always be part of Vancouver's history

    It was in the summer of 1964, when I was thirteen, that I traveled with my family aboard The Canadian from Vancouver to Lake Louise. The train was operated by Canadian Pacific Ry back then along that company's route unlike the VIA Rail successor which follows the Canadian National Rys route. My brother and I shared a bedroom in the lounge observation sleeper, Revelstoke Park. After several days at the Chateau Lake Louise, we traveled onward to Winnipeg aboard Canadian Pacific's The Dominion which carried the observation lounge sleeper, Glacier Park--the same car shown in this video. All of the cars on this train, with the exception of the glass-roofed panoramic cafe-lounge, were constructed by The Budd Company of Philadelphia in 1954-55 which means they have been in service for more than sixty years.

      hi Marshall, thank you for taking the time to comment. They certainly knew how to build these trains back then. In fact I believe these trains are still in service since they use stainless steel.they certainly have the foresight to build things and have them last. Thank you and all the best 🙂

    • @TimLeeLetsGo
      @TimLeeLetsGo  5 років тому +1

      Thanks quantum_quirk, thank you for your feedback oh, much appreciated. We had the berths when we were there, and I recall visiting some cabins where some friends for staying at. You are correct there are no locks. However, it's quite a nice crowd there and I felt completely safe list of belongings in the cabins. I suspect if there is anything expensive, you might want to put that in your luggage or give it to the staff for safekeeping. Basically the Porters keep an eye on the train car. This was a very enjoyable trip. Hope you get a chance to try 🙂

      @@randybarba9774 thank you so much for reaching out! Actually, that's a very good question as did not have a secure (locked) storage during out travel. We were in the berths and I'm also pretty sure the cabins don't lock...unless perhaps your in one the first class (prestige) cabins. Having said that, I felt totally safe as we had passports and laptops with us. If there is some very expensive gear, I'd give them a call to check if they can keep it for you... There is a porter assigned to specific cabins to look after the guests and they certainly do a very good job... I would be surprised if they could not help in this regard. Hi Kayly,. Oh you'll have so much fun. They tend to stop for anywhere between 1 to 3 hours. Sufficient time to walk around, buy some wine, and come back 😉. We had a delay in Winnipeg that extended the stop from 2 hours to 5 hours. Oh I need to give you some tips as well. These train are prone to delays because the tracks are shared and freight trains are given priority. We were delayed by over 20 hours, so if you have hotel reservations, make sure you get some cancellation protection. Enjoy 🙂

      I rode this train last April, during the off-season. I booked a cabin for 2 (in-room toilet and shower, bigger bed). The whole trip, including wine (alcohol is extra) was about $2,500 US from Vancouver to Toronto. I booked a few months ahead of time, and was able to get some discounts because of that.

    • @TimLeeLetsGo
      @TimLeeLetsGo  5 років тому +1

      During the winter time, there are some deeper discounts as well. I was on a budget and went for the upper and lower berths (shared washrooms and shared showers) but had all meals and non-alcoholic beverages included. It was about $700 CAD for the upper berth and $800ish for the lower berth (the lower berth if far superior). You will have to really watch for the discounts though - check out the description for the links on how to get notified of the deals.

      Hi Mike, we booked this a couple of months in advance because of a sale they were having... Absolutely. You are allowed to drink in your own private area, but if you're in the lounge, bar, observation cars, etc, I think you're only allows alcohol from the train service. Having said that, we shared a nice bottle of wine (own bottle) in the evening with some new friends in the observation car. Prior to this, when requesting for some wine glasses, we asked the hosts on the train if drinking was okay, and she indicated that if they observe any drinking (of personal wine/alcohol) it was their duty to ask for this to be stopped; then she handed us some mugs instead of clear glasses with a wink...
