- Video showed the an attempted carjacking at the Shell station at the northeast corner of Ashland Avenue and Diversey Parkway in the middle of the day. CBS 2's Tara Molina is told such carjackings are happening at all hours of the day, and it does not matter how busy the station or the area is.

My dad taught me well, this is why I NEVER leave my car running, NEVER leave the key in the ignition. No one should let their car run while fueling for safety anyway or be on their phone.

I've never left my key in the ignition at a gas station. Because of the increase in car thefts and crimes like that, I've got into the habit of locking my car doors, even when I'm right there pumping my gas. I also look around me more than I used to when getting gas.

Living in a city, especially where "real estate" is limited for anything beyond "living/working spaces", there isn't that much to do but maybe the city officials could work on "social activities for students" during the off-months. As a kid/teen we all lived out in the "sticks" & whether we were in or out of school we had plenty of chores to do, we also played games as a family sometimes, we played outside riding our bikes, played on equipment at home or at a friend's. There wasn't a lot of time to "play" tho as we had to work in the gardens with Mom and Dad to till the soil, plant seeds for crops, fertilize, weed the gardens, deal with insects & then help harvest and process the fruits/veges most of which we'd then preserve in jars and freezer containers. Beyond that we also had beehives to maintain, the honey was delicious tho!

1. Turn your car off and keep your key on you
2. Lock the door
3. Keep your head on a swivel
4. If someone approaches you intent on causing harm exercise you 2A rights
5. Call the police and tell them you were in fear of your life
