I think the combination of a Venice + an FX3 for pre-prod / rehearsals would be an incredible pairing. I can't wait to see more of your work as you jump into this next chapter of your career.
@@carlostigs When do you choose the Arri over the Venice and what is the reason why many productions don't use Red cameras? Congrats on getting the Venice it's incredible!
@@dukebozikowski3801 REDs are finicky cameras, not really suitable for large productions due to their constant software issues, random freezes, boot up times etc. You need to consider RED is a small company compared to industry giants like Sony and ARRI, they usually can't afford to polish their products very well as they need to push it to the market as soon as possible. Both Venice and Alexa will give you a top notch image which is very hard to tell apart these days. It is more of a personal preference based on experience with a given platform.
Would definitely love to see more videos that talks more in depth about the operational side of the VENICE! I think there are not much content on UA-cam for this particular camera. Small information such as the part where false colours is automatically targetted at the log file instead of the LUT, I think is incredibly important. Anyways, thank you for being an inspirations and big congrats!
At first, the bloom in the talking head shot caught me off guard, but I thought, "man, I'm glad Carlo is rocking his own style and not copying every other channel on the platform." and I stared to appreciate it. You do you, man! I'm a fan of your style and the calm way you present yourself. Killer video by the way - I look forward to shooting on the Venice some day in the future!
Congrats! Do you use it with the tripod you've listed in the description? I need to upgrade mine for a fully rigged Amira, but it's hard to find something that isn't insanely expensive.
its an impressive camera for sure.I have to stick with my FX6 and A7-4 Wich cover everything and more of all the work I do.My customers are always happy with the quality of the FX6 its been a work horse with good results.Venice is another level of projects to me.
Is there a certain reason that you like using lens modifiers such as the pro-mist? Obviously, it's a personal preference. I'm slowly rolling into a lot of the new trends but damn it's hard for me to find motivation for those adapters/modifiers unless it's an ultra-specific purpose. Love your channel dude. Thanks for all the great content.
Great breakdown. Love the way you highlight how the camera meets your specific needs and how important this type of critical thinking is when selecting the right tool.
Gian Carlo = thx for the video about Venice - As an independent DP are you able to "charge" more because you have the Venice and lenses to go with it? The broader question - what is the economics of paying off the Camera and lenses and the number of "jobs" you need to maintain?
Congratulations on the new camera! Must be a pretty awesome feeling just to hold it and be able to shoot. A question: Is the Sony FX3 a good investment for documentaires/corporate work for the next 2-3 years?
Congrats dude. That's a big achievement. Would be great to see more tutorials etc on this camera. My goals this year is to be more acquainted with the venice.
Ok this is more like it. All of your reason makes sense. I do agree that a FX7 or FX6 as a b cam would be nice for gimbal work. Dope video. Did you sell your Ursa?
Congratulations! Apologies if you said this before and I just missed it, but did you sell your Ursa to help pay for the Venice or are you keeping it around? Also, do you plan on getting an FX3 or something to be able to easily do gimbal stuff for projects or do you think you’ll just try to hire a Steadicam op for your Venice?
Great video , congrats 🎊 on your new camera 🎥 I’m an independent filmmaker that Has worked mostly in art house cinema in the last 11 years and now going to split my time between making a new feature art film 🎞️ and also direct commercials in La thanks to my actor friends. In your experience what’s the most affordable cinema camera you recommend that has that 16 bit color and professional look? I’m looking at Red Komodo and Arri Alexa Xt, and potentially Sony Venice but leaning towards the cheaper options, do the red Komodo and Arri Alexa xt still get used on sets in your opinion? Thank you 🙏
Your reason for wanting to shoot in open gate full-frame is the same reason why I loved the open gate 4:3 aspect ratio in _Zack Snyder's Justice League._ When I realized it wasn't cropped to 4:3 and that was the whole image, it really gave the movie this bizarre yet bold sense of scale. So much so that, if they make a movie that was meant to be shown in IMAX, like _Dune_ or _Avatar: The Way of Water,_ I don't want the home video releases to be cropped to 2.39:1 because it'll make the image feel more cramped for me.
What do you think of a Sony FX6 instead of an Ursa Pro G2 for a lower tier budget? I currently have the OG Ursa (before the pro, G1) and the FX6 would be my first upgrade camera-wise honestly
price difference is basically double if you go with the new 8k sensor. the 6k one is identical to the sensor in the original venice. so around $25k for internal recording and some other minor features is not worth it. yes the venice 2 is better in almost every regard, but at some point there will be diminishing returns. especially if that money goes a long way for a lens set like the vista primes, storage etc. and a production ready mini lf is even more than double the cost of a venice.
@@carlostigs Totally makes sense. The sensor is excellent, that's the key. Do you think you will shoot ProRes on more projects vs XOCN or it really just depends on the project / post budget, etc.
I was wondering exactly this when you announced you bought the Venice. I'm actually doing the opposite. I'm getting a bit away from FF anamorphics and leaning toward the Super35. Mainly cause the rigs are just too heavy or maybe I'm just getting too old? FF makes the cost of all the rigging go up. You need the larger EZrig, the bigger gimbal, even larger filters, and so on. Though spherical lenses are much smaller and more manageable. But yeah Super35 isn't so bad with anamorphics. Very cool though. I wouldn't mind shooting on the Venice at all! Very nice
Do you feel that having a camera, like the Venice, that is so versatile relieves some pressure and extra work off of you so you can just focus on getting the best image? Does it add any new challenges at all?
Yes and No. I think in terms of challenges it’s just more about really getting to know the camera more and more. But I’m not too sure it relieves some pressure
I invested in an alexa mini half a year ago and I'm not too concerned about resolution, but still looking into options like Topaz Labs 8k upscaling, just in case the client asks for more. I'd like to hear your thoughts on these AI upscaling methods and if you considered them, when choosing the venice for it's 6k (also). Thanks.
Peeping on your LUTs 👀 Did you install LUTs or horses?😝 Thanks for reminding me to turn off my LUTs (on my BMPCC6KPro) when checking False Color. DOH! Rookie mistake 🙄

I'm curious as to when you think you would break even on your investment in the Venice (and any accessories) i.e., realistically, how long before you have earned enough using the Venice that it would be paid off and you would start seeing a profit?
Thanks for your insides on your destination. I’d really like to know what your thoughts on the RED V-Raptor VV was, or if you even considered it.
