Also, these cordyceps ones, along with the infected in 28 days later, are not undead but in an altered state of mind of sorts. Yeah they aren't Zombies, when people die they don't come back, and the fungus doesn't infect the dead, it's similar to Zombies wherein they eat people and spread the virus (or in this case fungus) they're just a monster that happens to also enjoy eating people like many monsters do.

The cordyceps virus is more believable to become a real thing than the t virus from the resident evil series, which is scary cause I hope a strong mutated version of the cordyceps never happen
The design of the zombies in the later stages remind me of Davy Jones’s crew from POTC. Instead of sea flora and fauna growing on them, it’s all fungus. Very interesting.
I love the idea that if an infected survives a decade it turns into a bloater. The fact that they're rare makes encountering one very horrtying. The introduction to one in The Last of Us was ballin.
Thank you for this.... Just finished it mid last year... Best experience I've ever had!! And you confirmed my theories about the infection.... Can't wait for the sequel....
A supplement my doctor recommended to me had codyceps in it. I saw it and immediately went “noooo thank you”. I understand that people have ingested cordyceps in multiple forms medicinally for a very long time. But something about it really freaks me out. My doctor didn’t even realize the company started including cordyceps in the product.
The game reminded me of a couple books and a movie based on one of them call the girl with all the gifts. It's the exact same fungal infection but the book goes into more detail about whats going on. Good book, good movie good game all around.
You forgot in the flood one that the flood too once reaching the coordinated stage can release flood spores. Just one spore is enough to assimilate a host.
You said in the video that 2/3rds were wiped out and the rest lived cause they were immune thats incorrect the only immune that is known in that universe is ellie shes immune to any strain be it airborne etc. Theres a part in the game where ellies in a spore field and joel says " how the hell are you breathing this stuff" so im assuming no one has been immune before her
There are others like Ellie who are totally immune to the infection, though you don't find this out until the very end of the game, and they are very much in the minority. However, there is a potential caviat to this in that Ellie as well as the other cases of supposedly immune individuals still have spores present in their bodies, meaning they could be asymptomatic carriers who can pass the infection on through bodily fluids, as Ellie herself implies when she bites that one asshole whose name I thankfully can't remember.
Jaime Valencia actually her immunity is linked to the fungi growing around her brain mutating and stopping the infection process. It stayed stagnant and never progressed.
Brutalyte616 When Joel told Ellie there were other immune people, he was lying to her because he knew that she would be willing to sacrifice herself to save humanity. That being said, there COULD be other people who are immune, because when people get infected they usually either kill themselves or are killed by others before they would know if they’re going to turn. By the way, my personal theory is that since Ellie’s fungus has mutated to be harmless and that’s what makes her immune to other fungi, all she would have to do to pass on her immunity is infect someone. For example, David (probably the asshole you mentioned) may have been immune after Ellie bit him, or maybe I’m wrong and he would have turned, or maybe neither. Another thing to consider is the spores are in the saliva which is why it’s passed on with a bite. And in the trailer for TLOU2, Ellie and another girl kiss (also known as swapping spit.) Wonder what that means for the health of that girl!
@@daerdevvyl4314 I haven't played the game in a while but I'm pretty confident that at the end in the hospital you can find an artifact that goes into detail about how there's others immune. So technically Joel wasn't lying
the last of us is one of those games that even non gamers will enjoy to some degree, and we need more of those. its easily my favorite form of storytelling, and at times, its not taken as seriously as other forms of media, and well, I think that's a mistake. one that us consumers can correct, thank you for this.
Wow, I never knew that this game based on real science. It was crazy to see those ants and other bugs infected like that. This makes me appreciate this game a lot more!
A little-known factoid about the Cordyceps fungi: There _is_ a strain that has evolved to become capable of infecting mammals. It primarily infects very small rodents like small mice, and is extraordinarily rare to the point that even its very existence is debated in the scientific community. However the fact remains nonetheless that it _does_ exist, making the outbreak and subsequent apocalypse of _The Last of Us_ much more chilling, even if the chances of an outbreak occurring that becomes widespread being minuscule even on a cosmic scale.

The design of the zombies in the later stages remind me of Davy Jones’s crew from POTC. Instead of sea flora and fauna growing on them, it’s all fungus. Very interesting.
0:58 I don’t know why but the way he says “Cordyceps Brain Infection” send a chill down my spine 😂
these are one of the most terrifying types of zombies, yet most realistic
I love the idea that if an infected survives a decade it turns into a bloater. The fact that they're rare makes encountering one very horrtying. The introduction to one in The Last of Us was ballin.
Infecting the eyes doesn’t affect the visual cortex. Infecting the brain does
This and headcrabs are my favourite types of zombies
5:55 your about one year late
Thank you for this.... Just finished it mid last year... Best experience I've ever had!! And you confirmed my theories about the infection.... Can't wait for the sequel....
5:54 Um, who wants to tell him?
A supplement my doctor recommended to me had codyceps in it. I saw it and immediately went “noooo thank you”. I understand that people have ingested cordyceps in multiple forms medicinally for a very long time. But something about it really freaks me out. My doctor didn’t even realize the company started including cordyceps in the product.
Reasons why I love this game ❤️
Still til this day one of the best games I've ever played
I remember one time I was in sex Ed and I yelled out at one of the pictures "These be lookin like clickers from The Last Of Us"
Snavels
🤣
Something cool about the design of the cordyceps is that is both gory and beautiful. The design and color palette is very appealing
Because of this game I learned to make a clicker sound
I know I'm late, but can you teach me that
@@tiagoviana263 Yes
@@kaidensmith2670 Post a tutorial on UA-cam, I'll watch it with my 37 accounts (joking about the numbers, but I would actually watch it)
@@tiagoviana263 ok I'll work on it
I do to 😂
The game reminded me of a couple books and a movie based on one of them call the girl with all the gifts. It's the exact same fungal infection but the book goes into more detail about whats going on. Good book, good movie good game all around.
I now just realized he already made said video.. my bad
Legit the most scariest infection
Legit the worst grammar
My gosh. Excellent video. You really captured the horror of this infection.
Everyone: 2020 couldn’t possibly get worse.
2020: Who wants to play The Last of Us, in real life!
Me looking over at Last of Us 2: *no*
You forgot in the flood one that the flood too once reaching the coordinated stage can release flood spores. Just one spore is enough to assimilate a host.
You said in the video that 2/3rds were wiped out and the rest lived cause they were immune thats incorrect the only immune that is known in that universe is ellie shes immune to any strain be it airborne etc. Theres a part in the game where ellies in a spore field and joel says " how the hell are you breathing this stuff" so im assuming no one has been immune before her
he said "a handful were immune" meaning not everyone was immune
Yoooo i’m soo glad that you took my request to do a video about the virus from The last of us good ups man!
Can you please do the Flare Virus from maze runner?
Mike Lags oh, nice idea.
I think he covered it in the latest video.
@@Tyw7 His comment is from a year ago
LegoGenius16 really?
2017: Can you imagine that today? Corona: say no more.
This game needs the cleaners from the division
This was your best video yet! Great use of the science videos.
this is why last of us is a masterpiece
5:54 can you imagine that today?? 2020 yeah, yeah I can lol
the last of us is one of those games that even non gamers will enjoy to some degree, and we need more of those. its easily my favorite form of storytelling, and at times, its not taken as seriously as other forms of media, and well, I think that's a mistake. one that us consumers can correct, thank you for this.
When a zombie out brake begins it stays until the cure is found
Who's watching this after the release date announcement for TLOU part 2?
5:52 Hi, 2023 here- yes, yes we can imagine it.
can you do the virus in dying light plz?
Uvi Ation that game literally scared me away with the night chase
Jitterbugg Will ik I quit after prologue
SL1K_ Kemit ik u r
I slept through the night every chance I got
Until I got my overpowered weapons of course.
SL1K_ Kemit Dont make fun of other people when you cant even spell "pussies"
Wow, I never knew that this game based on real science. It was crazy to see those ants and other bugs infected like that. This makes me appreciate this game a lot more!
The Bird Flu: I'm dangerous :)
COVID-19: Hold my beer.
Is this why all these mushroom coffees are coming out and they have cordyseps in them?? Is this cordyseps infection real??
Watching this in 2020 makes the concept so, so much more scary
I’m honestly so glad I found this channel, I’ve been binging your videos and well done mate. I especially love the comics and these virus videos 👍🏼
