  • Happy Easter, my fellow heathens!
    I've been wanting to do this video for a while now, so this was a good excuse.
    When preparing for this video, I quickly discovered that it's impossible to cover every little detail, but that's probably for the better. Albums should retain some mystery as I feel they are a creature of their own and should be treated as such. So consider this video a light-hearted grazing of the surface - the rest is up to you to discover.

    By the way, if you have any questions about certain details on this album or the other ones, please do not hesitate to ask in the comments. I'm always thrilled to see what people pick up on and I'll do my best to respond.
    If you are enjoying what I'm doing, please consider supporting me by buying my music or some merch!

    I was so surprised by the Orion reference but also not really, because that is exactly what it reminded me of first listen. For some reason just never expected it to be on purpose. Cliff Burton was the reason I first picked up any instrument, bass obviously at the time, later swapping/adding guitar. He was a good one. As for the rest, you're insane.

      @@Shylmagoghnar I don't know how bold my statement sounds, but to me Bloodborne is the greatest piece of art ever conceived.

    • @Shylmagoghnar
      @Shylmagoghnar  2 місяці тому +1

      It's an honorable spot to be in, thank you! But yes, I also think Bloodborne might be the (rather unsung?) masterpiece of the series. I used to think it was DS1, but I have to say I find myself thinking about BB unreasonably often. Its questions and conundrums are much more far-reaching than the game itself, and despite being based on Lovecraft's work, I think it easily stands on its own.
      When I try to come up with a definition of what "art" means to me, I think it is when something carries a profound deeper message which cannot be expressed through words alone. Bloodborne oozes this. Even if there were zero lines of dialogue in the game, I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way about it. Maybe even more so.

  • @jazer138

    I have no words, I'm just amazed! By the way, I myself noticed some Easter eggs, for example, the Morse code from "Infinion" and I was always wondering what it meant. The reference to Orion almost brought me to tears. I also think Cliff is the greatest musician and he is one of my favorites, and when I found out that he is also the favorite of my other favorite musician, I was totally shocked (yes, I'm talking about you now :)). It really says a lot about Burton as a person and a musician. He promised to become the best musician in honor of his dead brother and he actually became, and moreover, he became an idol for other musicians that are now considered as the best. I myself dream of becoming the best guitarist in honor of Cliff Burton as he became for his brother, I even practice 8 hours a day like him. And I also dedicated one of my songs to him... Thank you very much for this video, you've just confirmed that you are one of the best composers I have ever heard, and maybe even the best. I am waiting for more similar videos, maybe there will be something about "Emergence" or "Transience" too.

    Btw I have a theory about the title of the track "Becoming".
    Hegel, following his dialectic, described life as the thesis, death as the antithesis, and the becoming as the synthesis of the first two. So that's where the name comes from imo, or at least that is what it reminds me of.

    • @Shylmagoghnar
      @Shylmagoghnar  2 місяці тому

      Interesting! My thoughts went in a similar direction. Though I'm not certain whether I've heard of Hegel's arguments on this in great detail, I had been reading about similar concepts in several religions/isms, one of them being Saṃsāra, wherein life and death are often described as a cycle of which it is very difficult (or even impossible) to escape. While I'm not a religious person, I do find it very fascinating when there is overlap like this in cultures of all corners and ages of the world.
      At the same time, the joy of feeling my kid move for the first time made me realize on a profound level that someone who wasn't, now was. Or at the very least, he was in that process, ergo, he was becoming.
      So it's kind of a bittersweet title for me. Joy vs eternal entrapment. The kind of puzzle I don't expect to be able to solve within my life time.

    There is something so strange and unsettling about the distortion on the vocals at 10:36. it instantly reminded me of the distortion I heard when being put under anesthesia for a surgery. I've heard it twice in my life and I've always wondered if that's the same sound you hear when dying.
