Sorry, guys.I haven't been able to update my erhu teaching video for a long time as I am super busy with my work. But I will try to record more videos😁
I just received a student erhu. I fell in love with listening to the instrument, and have always wanted to learn a string instrument. I decided I would go for it. These were all my early mistakes when first practicing. Thankfully, I've got these somewhat sorted, though I still need more work with speed and pressure. Practice makes perfect. I'll check out the rest of your videos. This one was very helpful!
Oh, that helped a lot. I've switched over from cello to because erhu would be easier to carry around. I didn't realise bowing speed could make such a big difference. Thank you.
My sound is so scratchy and it’s making me frustrated so these tips are really good. I just got my Erhu a few days ago and trying to learn as a beginner so your vids are helpful!
Please please please keep making more videos like this! I love my erhu but need so much help to one day play this amazing instrument beautifully. Thank you so much! A few questions I've been wanting to know for the longest is how to slide into another position when playing ?, it seems so hard to do. How do you make that vibration sound when playing ? I wish there were other beginner songs to practice I'm only comfortable with d scale. What's the best way to learn how to to play in other scales ? I would also love to learn how to use the lower half as well.
Can you tell us more about the hair on the bow. Shouldn't the horsehair lay nice and flat across? I suspect one of my many problems is that the bow hair doesn't lay flat (more of a clump). As I play the G string it also touches the D string if I don't position the bow angle just right. If so, any possibility of correcting beside replacing it?
Hi.thanks for the videos.I have one question: how loose should the horse hair be in the bow, and how can one check it? It's because when playing violin, the idea I have ( not a violinist) is that one should tighten the horse hair, by rotating the screw. But with the erhu I think it's supposed to be loose. But how loose it's the question.. Thanks in advance. João
Love the sound thanks for the tips! Years ago I started to learn on my own w/ no success, nie I‘m putting an effort to it again since I bought a new bow…
Thanks a lot! I'm very lazy with applying rosin so it might be number one, but I think it's mostly number two since I never considered the pressure on the string at all. I will pay attention to this next time I practice.
Hi, thanks for your valuable tips! My question is, what do I do wrong on producing scratchy sound when I played on an open d string, on the way back moving the bow, I mean when I move my right arm back to my body? On the open a string it sounds clearer when I practice the bowing. I rosin the bow a lot. Thanks in advance!
hi thank you for your videos, they're very helpful. I would like to ask when I bow the erhu, I noticed there's white powder fall on the soundbox, is this normal?
@Christine Brown yes i judge it by ear But yes it might be just i lack experiences on the erhu so I'll continue practicing the fundamentals, thank you.
Hello I just started playing the Erhu, and I'm getting a very dissonant sound (as if the string is playing two semi-tones at once). This is only on the open A string, not D. What do you think might be causing this?
Thanks for sharing. It’s hard to find anyone who will teach this amazing instrument.

Brilliant, thank you. I will practice long bowing every day now until the screch has gone.

That was really helpful, thank you
Thank you so much for these videos
Greetings teacher, when does one finish playing the Erhu! You have to loosen your strings.
Really helpful tysm!
I was wondering how much of what you are teaching for the Erhu is translatable to the Korean Haegeum?

Hi, do you give online lessons?
thanks
Hi Li! You seem to teach Erhu really well. Do you give online lessons 1on1? I'm based in São Paulo. :)
scratchy sound isn't my problem. when i press my D string to play E and above notes on D string it sounds rubbery unlike my notes on A string
@Christine Brown yes i judge it by ear
But yes it might be just i lack experiences on the erhu so I'll continue practicing the fundamentals, thank you.

Same but it's not on my open a, it's when I pay the a an octave above the a string
