It kind of doesn’t make sense to me when people say you would expect a not great seat from an aggressive naked sports bike. I dont see how its acceptable for any bike to have an uncomfortable seat really. Its not expensive to make the seat the right shape, nice foam is not expensive, its not heavy to make a comfy seat, it doesn’t cost billions in R&D. In fact its so incredibly easy to design, relatively tiny aftermarket companies can make a super comfy one within weeks of bikes being released. If you pay 13000 dollars for a bike you should not have to immediately buy an aftermarket seat to be able to ride it more than a few hours without a numb butt. Just my 2 cents
I remember when comfortable seats were not a theme of conversation, almost all street motorcycles had fairly comfortable seats. My monster sure wasn't uncomfortable, that much I can say. If Ducati doesn't make the monster these days with a comfortable seat, is because they are greedy and are concerned about saving a couple cents on each seat, instead of offering the best experience to their customers.
It’s not that OEMs can’t design a comfortable seat, nor that it is expensive. But take a look at a Russell Day Long seat. Probably the most comfortable seat out there, but also the ugliest. OEM seats are designed for looks and to have a low seat height to make people feel they can flat foot. If they were made for comfort, they’d look ugly and have a higher seat height. That’d probably hurt sales more than the additional cost to get an aftermarket seat.

Way back in the day (circa 2000-ish-ish) some guy in my neighbourhood had a Monster and whenever he would ride by that bike sounded soooooooo good! No idea what pipe/exhaust he had on it but nice and powerful sounding without being obnoxious.
For less than half, you can get a used 821 or air cooled 796/797 and IMO They look 10x better cuz they have a trellis frame and maintenance is going to be the same.

I'm on my second 1100 Evo right now, ask me how I know. I hated this monster when it came out and now I'm actually considering getting one to replace my Evo eventually (a used standard, not this ridiculously expensive SP). I'm sick of constant repairs and shitty reliability and I know this one made a lot of progress in that department, considering Suzuki won't make an SV 1000 again ( a 650 is my daily because of the crappy reliability of the Ducati) I'm actually now kind of on board. It's like a love child between a Monster and an SV, once I accepted the real Monster, the treillis air cooled one was dead, I realized that for a modern 1000cc Vtwin roadster this is actually the only option and I now think it looks good, just not great as a Ducati should. We'll see how I gel with it.
@@MrMcTavishOBS looks, I don’t care too much. I wasn’t a fan of the old one except for the massive headers on the later version 1200’s. The new monster is so much more capable and can be as rowdy as you like. It just has a much wider scope of capabilities
I agree! I own one and love it and I'm just really interested what Zack thinks about it. He said a lot of positive things in the past about Street Triples and he did a review of a 765R a few years ago, but never a 765RS (and the new model is just so attractive).

For an "average" rider like me who is older but still looking for a spirited ride the 937+ I have gives me the Ducati buzz while compensating for the fact that I am not a Moto GP rider! Every 64 year old guy should ride one!
I sat on one and its very inviting. It doesn't feel worth the price, but very approachable and seems very fun to ride as any Ducati. It has a specific customer, someone who desires the brand for the road but doesn't want to spend time dollar. The competition is tough, so it boils down to brand desire, I want a Ducati, okay get the Monster.
Personally I'd rather get the hypermotard - I've always found the monster to have a weird reach to the bar and the engine heats up like a superbike anyway, so I'd rather be more comfortable and have more distance from the rear cylinder.
I test rode a 950 Multi with the same engine this past spring and was shocked at the vibes. Our past ST2 and Cagiva Gran Canyon 900/944cc two-valvers were velvety smooth by comparison
Zack would love to see more info on wheelies. I know you’re not a pro stunt rider but you do wheelies so well and I always wonder like are you clutching them up, or just power, what gear you’re in, how high you rev, etc. just some details on them or maybe a whole high side low side episode all about wheelies and stunts, backing it in etc. could be really cool
It made me realize just how good he is at reviewing bikes, I cam into this expecting the fun parts and the obvious flaws not to get enough attention. I love my monster but I could not agree more that sometimes...it's just not scary enough, it's too refined. But when I'm out and I ask it to have a little fun, I could care less. Fantastic bike, but not perfect.
Just got this as my first bike. Been putting in about 200-300 miles per week. First 600 miles kept it under 6,000 rpm. Bike is very quiet, but has some grunt. At the 600 mile service I did the termignoni race exhaust upgrade. (yes it’s expensive, but did get a discount from dealer). The termignoni slip on doesn’t have removable baffles. So that is swapped out, cat is removed, and the racing evo tune is added. Once I got the bike back it definitely felt more snappy and aggressive. Felt as if the bike had more attitude and was a bit meaner, also more fun! With the cat delete the pipe is much louder and sounds great, if you remove the baffles (db killers) it’s wild and sounds amazing. My bike was shooting flames and popping on those downshifts. Personally without baffles, it’s a little too loud. Mirrors are garbage, swap those out. Overall really fun bike and if you ride it aggressively it will give back and be a blast. If you want to ride it more relaxed, it will ride relaxed. Great for canyon carving and having fun. But I also took it to the track and it was a dang good time! Is it a more expensive bike compared to others, yes… but have I always wanted a Ducati ever since I first saw one, also yes. Next bike to add will probably be a street fighter V4S. Keep the monster with it, because it will be nice to have a bike that can be ridden at lower speeds and still be fun.
Thanks for another solid ride and review! I've been looking and researching for a solid beginner bike that has a retro look/feel. Iv'e watched (and appreciated) your takes on the Honda Rebel, Kawasaki eliminator and Meteor 350, but was wondering if it would be possible to review any other royal enfield's such as the super meteor 650, shotgun 650, himalayan, and classic 350, and/or other similar bikes (perhaps the yamaha v star 250?) . From one UA-camr to another, let me say that you are an inspiration (and Youtubing isn’t my day job!) I owned this exact Monster and am a huge fan of this line of Ducati’s. Such classic imho. Oh and i am slow A group rider and i can tell you its a hoot on the track!
I dunno. When I was in the market, I couldn't get excited about this new Monster. It's not a standout in terms of performance, and by moving away from the trellis frame, I think they lost the distinctive esthetics that were such a draw with previous models. It just doesn't move me anymore. I'd probably go for the Hyper instead.
I had a 2015 1200 base model. With around 150 HP, it was awesome. It looked great too. They've really gone backwards by reducing the HP and looks. I'd buy a Streetfighter V2 before the new Monster.

This is the most “VW” thing they’ve done by far since buying Ducati. That ain’t no monster, it’s just a historic badge on a spec sheet bike built down to target a specific demographic. It’s an accountant’s passion project
I thought the same when it came out. Now on my second Monster 1100 Evo with constant reliability issues on both, I have to own an SV 650 again for commuting because of that. This bike is like the love child between the 2 and I'm now seriously considering it
As an Italian living in Italy I cannot explain how many things I would like to change and develop for the better in my country but for sure I would never change anything and I will always be proud of the italian motorcycle manufacturers: Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Aprilia, Mv Agusta...you name it...they are doing great products and they're keeping the inheritance of a glorious past alive. They're are slowly getting better with techs and maybe they they're too prone to EU government mandatory regulations but, oh boy, if they do great motorcycles! Nice to look at, fun to ride, finally reliable... They're expensive compared to chinese and Japanese brands but once you have them and you ride them you can easily understand why it's so. I'm a proud and entertained owner of a Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled and I feel in paradise.... P.S.: dear Revzilla, please, make an European website so that I can buy your products also in EU countries!!! There are a lot of American motorcycle products that are worth it here!
Reliable... not so sure. Never owned one, but know few people that do...and they are reliable in comparisom to 10 years ago, but still not as japanese bikes even 10 years ago. They do have soul tho, which i cant say for bmw for example. I myself prefer the japanese bikes, chinese wouldnt touch with a 10foot stick. To each its own, and if you have money to burn then italian bikes are a good choice. Dont know if they are expensive to buy and maintain in italy. For 12k usd you can buy japanese bike that for the next 40,000 km will only need an oil change and new break pads.
@@Alekth85 if you maintain them as a motorcycle should be maintained they run perfect. If you expect them to run on a cheap maintenance style, well, go japanese...
@@thenightflier37 thing about japanese is that you do not have to "maintain" them, other than oil changes in most cases. Italians, you do. And it is not cheap. So like i said, have money? Go for it, because they do have style and soul. On a budget? Stay away. In italy its probably a lot cheaper.

@@Alekth85 I have had an RSV4 Factory for 4 years at this point. I bought it brand new in September 2020 and just climbed past 10,000 km a few weeks ago. I was worried that I might be seeing my dealer way more than I'd be comfortable with, but truth be told, I have had no issues with it apart from this weird glitch where it would signal a hang-up of the exhaust flap valve on the first ride of the season for the past two years. Still, very far from what the word of mouth would have you believe. The thing is, though, that I never skimp on maintenance. The bike gets new oil+filter at the beginning of every season even though I don't rack up that many km's in a year, and I generally have the bike checked up whenever it asks for it (like it did after reaching 10k km's). It's not exactly the cheapest way to live with the bike, but I would like to think that my maintenance schedule is a part of why I have had pretty much no issues with it so far. And I have got to agree with @thenightflier37 -- nobody does design quite like Italians do it. You just need to see a Ducati, an MV Agusta, or Aprilia to know. Same goes for their cars as well.
From @1:00 mark, the profile is very eye-pleasing. I have never given Ducati much thought to be in my barn, probably from a cost and maintenance bias imparted by others. Although....the one Ducati bike that has always appealed: 2006-2010 Sport and GT1000's.
I loved both of my Monsters, even getting a 10.81 @134mph at the strip on a good day on a non SP version. Ducatis are my favorite brand. The only caveat I have about owning Ducati motorcycles is the high cost to purchase, maintain, and insure. Yikes bike insurance is getting expensive to the point I may want buy older used bikes now... I recently test road the BMW F900 GS and it was nowhere near the exciting ride of the Ducati - it bored me to tears! I couldn't wait to get back to the dealership and get off of it after 3 kms...

Seems like DailyRider has largely stopped considering price as a primary factor in the rankings. No mention that there is a ~5-6k price delta between the Monster SP and the Z900 SE in this video, for example. It wasn't that many years ago that the Ninja 300 was the top (or near the top) of the rankings (not to be a Kawasaki stan).
26:44 he says he buys a bike based on what it does and what he wants to do with it... but even with that being the case, you HAVE to take maintenance reputation into account these days. supply chain issues abound. i've only owned two bikes that were not japanese, and both of them had an issue that required months at the shop. why did it take so long? simply because they were waiting on parts. parts that failed through no fault of my own. one was the electrical harness had to be replaced because it was installed incorrectly and shorted out (street triple 765), and the other was the rear shock blew a gasket and leaked out all the oil (tuono 660). so just the simple fact that parts are scarce makes me want to only buy something with a bulletproof reputation. any bike can have problems, but japanese bikes are just much more likely to let you do "what i want to do" on it... because it's actually still running, every single day.

@@Tartan1206 IDK, read much on the new GS8? in particular, their sportbike model of the GS8. It put a can of whoop butt on the new Daytona 660 and the R7. also, even tho it's not a super naked, you could never go wrong with their flagship naked bike the GSX S1000 or their 750 model which packs what, 130 - 135hp and will run all day long with the 765's of triumph. The big bore 1000 cc I4's have fallen victim to the big bore v4s. The V4 has proven to be the better engine config for racing. MotoGP will be lowering the cc to 850 in a couple of years, iI believe - all v4s. That is why BMW (never entered), and Kawasaki, Suzuki dropped out of MotoGP. I'm surprised Yamaha has stayed in but as you can see, they stopped being competitive after 2020/2021. I don't believe they've had a top 5 finish even.
Great review, I’m looking at one (sp) but yea miss the more naked look. I want to cruise more though so monster ticks the box. It would be epic if they made a litre version 1100 or something similar to the old one. It really feels like Audi engineers have re-shaped the look of Ducati, engine tech has defs improved, reliability and electronics, but the looks seems more dulled down with all the plastic on ALL models.
I like it. I hate how Ducati markets it, but I like this. Ducati markets it almost like a chick bikeor even a starter bike. This doesn't seem like a beginner bike or even dossile in the least. It's a 400lbs and over 100hp.Basically, a naked Supersport like the original Monster. Just modern.
I wish the monster was more of a "monster". Over a decade ago Ducati was making similar power as this Monster SP without the benefits of liquid cooling on their Monster 1100 EVO.
And the S4R had about 10-15 more hp with liquid cooling at 1000ccs even before the 1100 EVO! Edit: scrap that the power is about the same, still that was 20 years ago
I have a 2018 Monster 1200 S. Absolutely love the bike and don’t plan on parting with it anytime soon. Used it for all sorts of biking. Sadly I feel the newer models don’t live up to the Monster name. I think it would have been better to just kill off the monster name after there 1200’s and call this bike something completely different.
It’s a really fun bike , really light weight with tons of character and handling. Definitely didn’t buy it to impress people with its plastic engine bits and boring aluminum chassis (although it definitely gets lots of compliments in the iceberg white color)
If I had to guess why the comparison question were so broad. It’s the price. It’s about the price of an MT-10SP, but it’s in the class with the MT-09SP, but it’s performance is more in line with a Tuono 660. I think it’s awesome and beautiful. Just way too expensive for what it is
@Twistedmetallic good for you. There were recalls with engine replacements on the 660 etc. The build quality on aprilias in general is not on par with a ducati. I have a tuono v4 Misamo that I bought new and the paint quality and fit and finish of body panels is no where near the quality of my ducati. The headlights on my tuono at night are the worst of any bike I have ever owned. Terrible design for a modern bike. Inadequate cooling is another flaw. The list goes on and on.
That Ducatax. Decent looking but significantly better than what you can get for less than many other manufacturers. Add in Desmo service… A brand pitched as a higher end marquee needs something more to justify the price to me.
It's too bad you never got the 2020 Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 on the Daily Rider leaderboard. Would love to hear some comparisons between that bike and other lighter naked bikes like the Monster.
Just drove the standard version. Even with 20hp less, for road use I prefer my Ducati 1000 GT. More sensations with the 2 valves per cylinder engine. And on the 937, I am not keen about top end mechanical noises.
Any idea if the rear brake is better than previous gen (821, 1200) I got one previous gen and even with a brembo caliper the rear doesn’t seem confidence inspiring . Ideas on how to make the rear of a 1200 brake work better
My 2c on aluminum cast vs trellis I don’t care if it’s lighter, if the bike ever takes a beating, cast aluminum cracks, and if you’re unfortunate, it’ll be an almost invisible crack that will or will not catastrophically give at the worst time. A steel trellis will be more resistant, and it eventually visibly bends. I like the idea of more gradual frame failures. That’s one of the reasons I like my 1250 GS more than the new 1300 tbh Cast aluminum is an easier way to total bikes if you take a spill
As a distant admirer of the Monster line of motorcycles, it is difficult to consider this a true Monster given the massive differences vs prior models. Zach eluded to this in his typical nice/PC way, but, for me, I will continue my search for a classic Monster to add to my collection.
Tbh its numbers and styling seems very similar to my GSXS750. The exhaust is a bit tame (I have an M4), seat height is a bit much (820mm is a sweet spot), and the fuel economy is similar (47mpg vs the Ducati’s 45mpg)…..like my bike, a tail tidy on this should make it look fantastic.
20:15 my street triple 765 puts out more hp... so it's understandable that it gets so hot i can feel it cooking my feet through the pegs. but yeah, for a near liter displacement bike, only putting out 110hp, you wouldn't expect it to be all that hot.
As I was watching that clip at the end I was thinking that I couldn't even hear the bike running. Then the truck moved over. So yeah, that bike could be a bit louder.

Whoever is designing the factory seats is probably getting kickbacks from the aftermarket companies.
MV Agusta's extremely sporty naked bikes have pretty comfortable seats. I did over 2 weeks in the Alps and more without any issues.

Had a 2008 S2R 1000 Monster. When the fuel light came on, you had 30sec to get to a gas station or you were walking.

At the 600 mile service I did the termignoni race exhaust upgrade. (yes it’s expensive, but did get a discount from dealer). The termignoni slip on doesn’t have removable baffles. So that is swapped out, cat is removed, and the racing evo tune is added. Once I got the bike back it definitely felt more snappy and aggressive. Felt as if the bike had more attitude and was a bit meaner, also more fun! With the cat delete the pipe is much louder and sounds great, if you remove the baffles (db killers) it’s wild and sounds amazing. My bike was shooting flames and popping on those downshifts. Personally without baffles, it’s a little too loud. Mirrors are garbage, swap those out. Overall really fun bike and if you ride it aggressively it will give back and be a blast. If you want to ride it more relaxed, it will ride relaxed. Great for canyon carving and having fun. But I also took it to the track and it was a dang good time! Is it a more expensive bike compared to others, yes… but have I always wanted a Ducati ever since I first saw one, also yes. Next bike to add will probably be a street fighter V4S. Keep the monster with it, because it will be nice to have a bike that can be ridden at lower speeds and still be fun.
Thanks for another solid ride and review! I've been looking and researching for a solid beginner bike that has a retro look/feel. Iv'e watched (and appreciated) your takes on the Honda Rebel, Kawasaki eliminator and Meteor 350, but was wondering if it would be possible to review any other royal enfield's such as the super meteor 650, shotgun 650, himalayan, and classic 350, and/or other similar bikes (perhaps the yamaha v star 250?) . Apologies if you have covered any of such already and thanks again!
You can get past the rev limiter by revving in gear, with the clutch pulled in. It only happens in neutral.
Upmap with the full termi exhaust has no limiter in N
From one UA-camr to another, let me say that you are an inspiration (and Youtubing isn’t my day job!) I owned this exact Monster and am a huge fan of this line of Ducati’s. Such classic imho. Oh and i am slow A group rider and i can tell you its a hoot on the track!

I dunno. When I was in the market, I couldn't get excited about this new Monster. It's not a standout in terms of performance, and by moving away from the trellis frame, I think they lost the distinctive esthetics that were such a draw with previous models. It just doesn't move me anymore. I'd probably go for the Hyper instead.

I had a 2015 1200 base model. With around 150 HP, it was awesome. It looked great too. They've really gone backwards by reducing the HP and looks. I'd buy a Streetfighter V2 before the new Monster.
Yah the new Monster looks cheap and I can't believe it has HP less than my adventure bike.

This is the most “VW” thing they’ve done by far since buying Ducati. That ain’t no monster, it’s just a historic badge on a spec sheet bike built down to target a specific demographic. It’s an accountant’s passion project

I thought the same when it came out. Now on my second Monster 1100 Evo with constant reliability issues on both, I have to own an SV 650 again for commuting because of that. This bike is like the love child between the 2 and I'm now seriously considering it

As an Italian living in Italy I cannot explain how many things I would like to change and develop for the better in my country but for sure I would never change anything and I will always be proud of the italian motorcycle manufacturers: Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Aprilia, Mv Agusta...you name it...they are doing great products and they're keeping the inheritance of a glorious past alive. They're are slowly getting better with techs and maybe they they're too prone to EU government mandatory regulations but, oh boy, if they do great motorcycles! Nice to look at, fun to ride, finally reliable...
They're expensive compared to chinese and Japanese brands but once you have them and you ride them you can easily understand why it's so.
I'm a proud and entertained owner of a Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled and I feel in paradise....

Reliable... not so sure. Never owned one, but know few people that do...and they are reliable in comparisom to 10 years ago, but still not as japanese bikes even 10 years ago. They do have soul tho, which i cant say for bmw for example. I myself prefer the japanese bikes, chinese wouldnt touch with a 10foot stick. To each its own, and if you have money to burn then italian bikes are a good choice. Dont know if they are expensive to buy and maintain in italy. For 12k usd you can buy japanese bike that for the next 40,000 km will only need an oil change and new break pads.
@@Alekth85 if you maintain them as a motorcycle should be maintained they run perfect. If you expect them to run on a cheap maintenance style, well, go japanese...
@@thenightflier37 thing about japanese is that you do not have to "maintain" them, other than oil changes in most cases. Italians, you do. And it is not cheap. So like i said, have money? Go for it, because they do have style and soul. On a budget? Stay away. In italy its probably a lot cheaper.
I agree, a EU website would be great! You should be proud, Italian bikes sure have something about them. I think all european bike brands are more interesting than Asian ones though..
@@Alekth85 I have had an RSV4 Factory for 4 years at this point. I bought it brand new in September 2020 and just climbed past 10,000 km a few weeks ago. I was worried that I might be seeing my dealer way more than I'd be comfortable with, but truth be told, I have had no issues with it apart from this weird glitch where it would signal a hang-up of the exhaust flap valve on the first ride of the season for the past two years. Still, very far from what the word of mouth would have you believe.
The thing is, though, that I never skimp on maintenance. The bike gets new oil+filter at the beginning of every season even though I don't rack up that many km's in a year, and I generally have the bike checked up whenever it asks for it (like it did after reaching 10k km's). It's not exactly the cheapest way to live with the bike, but I would like to think that my maintenance schedule is a part of why I have had pretty much no issues with it so far.
And I have got to agree with @thenightflier37 -- nobody does design quite like Italians do it. You just need to see a Ducati, an MV Agusta, or Aprilia to know. Same goes for their cars as well.

From @1:00 mark, the profile is very eye-pleasing. I have never given Ducati much thought to be in my barn, probably from a cost and maintenance bias imparted by others. Although....the one Ducati bike that has always appealed: 2006-2010 Sport and GT1000's.

I loved both of my Monsters, even getting a 10.81 @134mph at the strip on a good day on a non SP version. Ducatis are my favorite brand. The only caveat I have about owning Ducati motorcycles is the high cost to purchase, maintain, and insure. Yikes bike insurance is getting expensive to the point I may want buy older used bikes now... I recently test road the BMW F900 GS and it was nowhere near the exciting ride of the Ducati - it bored me to tears! I couldn't wait to get back to the dealership and get off of it after 3 kms...
There is no way you trapped 134 in the quarter a zx 6r would not even trap that and it would absolutely eat the ducati monster alive it would not even be a race
6:50 - there are differences in rake, trail and wheel base between the SP and the plus, which have a noticeable impact on handling
Seems like DailyRider has largely stopped considering price as a primary factor in the rankings. No mention that there is a ~5-6k price delta between the Monster SP and the Z900 SE in this video, for example. It wasn't that many years ago that the Ninja 300 was the top (or near the top) of the rankings (not to be a Kawasaki stan).
I was really excited about this bike before the motor on my Multistrada blew up.

26:44 he says he buys a bike based on what it does and what he wants to do with it... but even with that being the case, you HAVE to take maintenance reputation into account these days. supply chain issues abound. i've only owned two bikes that were not japanese, and both of them had an issue that required months at the shop. why did it take so long? simply because they were waiting on parts. parts that failed through no fault of my own. one was the electrical harness had to be replaced because it was installed incorrectly and shorted out (street triple 765), and the other was the rear shock blew a gasket and leaked out all the oil (tuono 660). so just the simple fact that parts are scarce makes me want to only buy something with a bulletproof reputation.
any bike can have problems, but japanese bikes are just much more likely to let you do "what i want to do" on it... because it's actually still running, every single day.

@@Tartan1206 IDK, read much on the new GS8? in particular, their sportbike model of the GS8. It put a can of whoop butt on the new Daytona 660 and the R7. also, even tho it's not a super naked, you could never go wrong with their flagship naked bike the GSX S1000 or their 750 model which packs what, 130 - 135hp and will run all day long with the 765's of triumph. The big bore 1000 cc I4's have fallen victim to the big bore v4s. The V4 has proven to be the better engine config for racing. MotoGP will be lowering the cc to 850 in a couple of years, iI believe - all v4s. That is why BMW (never entered), and Kawasaki, Suzuki dropped out of MotoGP. I'm surprised Yamaha has stayed in but as you can see, they stopped being competitive after 2020/2021. I don't believe they've had a top 5 finish even.
This edition feels like the signal that Monster is becoming just another model line for Ducati. No longer a statement.

Great review, I’m looking at one (sp) but yea miss the more naked look. I want to cruise more though so monster ticks the box. It would be epic if they made a litre version 1100 or something similar to the old one. It really feels like Audi engineers have re-shaped the look of Ducati, engine tech has defs improved, reliability and electronics, but the looks seems more dulled down with all the plastic on ALL models.

I like it. I hate how Ducati markets it, but I like this. Ducati markets it almost like a chick bikeor even a starter bike. This doesn't seem like a beginner bike or even dossile in the least. It's a 400lbs and over 100hp.Basically, a naked Supersport like the original Monster. Just modern.
Seperate wheelie control from traction control have been fairly standard since 2019
I wish the monster was more of a "monster". Over a decade ago Ducati was making similar power as this Monster SP without the benefits of liquid cooling on their Monster 1100 EVO.
Concur, simpler, less electronics and oh so much prettier.
And the S4R had about 10-15 more hp with liquid cooling at 1000ccs even before the 1100 EVO!
Edit: scrap that the power is about the same, still that was 20 years ago

I have a 2018 Monster 1200 S. Absolutely love the bike and don’t plan on parting with it anytime soon. Used it for all sorts of biking. Sadly I feel the newer models don’t live up to the Monster name. I think it would have been better to just kill off the monster name after there 1200’s and call this bike something completely different.
I wonder how the sales of the Monster have been after Ducati let go of the trellis frame.

It’s a really fun bike , really light weight with tons of character and handling. Definitely didn’t buy it to impress people with its plastic engine bits and boring aluminum chassis (although it definitely gets lots of compliments in the iceberg white color)
Could the MV Agusta Brutale or Dragster be direct competitors, but with a more 'hooligan' edge, which is precisely what the Monster lacks?

If I had to guess why the comparison question were so broad. It’s the price. It’s about the price of an MT-10SP, but it’s in the class with the MT-09SP, but it’s performance is more in line with a Tuono 660. I think it’s awesome and beautiful. Just way too expensive for what it is

@Twistedmetallic good for you. There were recalls with engine replacements on the 660 etc. The build quality on aprilias in general is not on par with a ducati. I have a tuono v4 Misamo that I bought new and the paint quality and fit and finish of body panels is no where near the quality of my ducati. The headlights on my tuono at night are the worst of any bike I have ever owned. Terrible design for a modern bike. Inadequate cooling is another flaw. The list goes on and on.

Just drove the standard version. Even with 20hp less, for road use I prefer my Ducati 1000 GT. More sensations with the 2 valves per cylinder engine. And on the 937, I am not keen about top end mechanical noises.
Any idea if the rear brake is better than previous gen (821, 1200) I got one previous gen and even with a brembo caliper the rear doesn’t seem confidence inspiring . Ideas on how to make the rear of a 1200 brake work better
My 2c on aluminum cast vs trellis
I don’t care if it’s lighter, if the bike ever takes a beating, cast aluminum cracks, and if you’re unfortunate, it’ll be an almost invisible crack that will or will not catastrophically give at the worst time. A steel trellis will be more resistant, and it eventually visibly bends. I like the idea of more gradual frame failures.
That’s one of the reasons I like my 1250 GS more than the new 1300 tbh

As a distant admirer of the Monster line of motorcycles, it is difficult to consider this a true Monster given the massive differences vs prior models. Zach eluded to this in his typical nice/PC way, but, for me, I will continue my search for a classic Monster to add to my collection.

Bring back the S4RS
Tbh its numbers and styling seems very similar to my GSXS750. The exhaust is a bit tame (I have an M4), seat height is a bit much (820mm is a sweet spot), and the fuel economy is similar (47mpg vs the Ducati’s 45mpg)…..like my bike, a tail tidy on this should make it look fantastic.
Cast aluminum is a tell tale sign of a company cheaping out……
20:15 my street triple 765 puts out more hp... so it's understandable that it gets so hot i can feel it cooking my feet through the pegs.
but yeah, for a near liter displacement bike, only putting out 110hp, you wouldn't expect it to be all that hot.

Ducati seat height is a little deceptive in a good way. They are easier to stand over snd reach the ground than other bikes of same seat height.
The initial Monster was called like that for the way it looked more that the way it drove.
As I was watching that clip at the end I was thinking that I couldn't even hear the bike running. Then the truck moved over. So yeah, that bike could be a bit louder.
