Doing it for a job I just leave stuff in a way that I’d remember or cue myself to easily figure out how it came part, different length bolts on engine cases can be a bit tedious but you get there

@@gamekeeper687 Put them through a diagram drawn on cardboard or paper. Keep them in place on any casing or anything you take off. Line them up in order on the side table or toolbox. Many ways if you have not got a really good memory. Bag and tag, photos video as our friend said above.

2:57 A.M. in Indiana and I get to watch chops tear down his bike more! When it comes to buffing the compound will do most of what you want done with the soft whee on the right,to corse pad will leave scratches brown cutting rouge is what I use to cut then change wheels and colors for level of brightness.
Don’t forget the anti-seize on the exhaust when you mate it back together, will come apart easier next time in my experience.Very entertaining watching another build with you.Cheers🍻.

Please take the seals out, you can probably reuse them but the groves get dirt and corrosion in them and this is what binds the pistons and you loose feel and capacity, use a 90 degree pick to full clean out the seal grooves of dirt and corrosion then pack with red rubber grease and rebuild.... you will be sorry if you cut this corner... promise 👍
I do this every 2 years on my bikes and you would be surprised how much crud comes out and how much better the brakes feel and how easily the pistons move afterwards 😍

I think the main reason all the nuts and bolts came out with no breakages is because they were all still set to the original factory torque settings. I re-framed a little yzf r125 last year, as I put it back together I used the online manual to torque ever nut bolt and screw. I was really surprised on how low a lot of the setting should be. The manual also specified the bolts that need thread lock.

Why not mince the chain off with the grinder if you are not reusing the chain? I don't get the stubbornness that you must use a chain splitter which is 1) slower, 2) more tricky 3) likely to break the pin.

You be needing some fine -medium-course scotchbrite wheels and polishing clays.. autosol on a small 5 inch polishing wheel for exhaust to brighten up and get some 5" pads that will fit on a high speed drill as it's easy then to give them a quick clean when they still on the bike and anything that is polished like your triple clamps if not getting coated you want to wipe them over regular with gt85/wd40.... i started doing my own polishing a few years ago restoring my old enduro bikes... that swing arm would look quite nice with a brushed ali look and a clear coat over top of it ? Very easy with scotch brite wheels going horizontal passes over it one paint is off it ...👍

I don't think anything you put on that polisher short of a grinding wheel is going to do much to those casting lines. You'll need to start out with files and or a dremel, grind the casting down then work up to polishing. The issue you'll run into is you'll never really be able to match that fine textured surface so you're going to be looking at polishing the entire part to get a uniform finish. This is going to entail sanding it all with progressively finer grits until you can actually polish them. It's going to be a pretty big job and I'm not sure the polished look is what you're interested in or not.

Good luck with the swingarm removal. There was at one time i classic thread of a guy trying to remove one from his 748 with huge difficulty. In the end he took to using a bottle jack with the frame between two wall pillars. It knocked the wall down and didn't shift the swingarm pivot.. :-)

It's so easy to get swingarm out, but engine must come out first so the bushes that stick trough the bearing can be moved inwards so the move out of the recess in the frame wich is what prevents the swingarm to remove it with engine in .

Nice! Really like what you are doing, awesome bike too!
Just some random things, going to watch this episode now; ceracote is a super nice coating, but I would not coat the cylinders/cooling fins with it as it isolates the heat quite nicely! You could coat the exhaust with it inside and out, to keep the bike a bit cooler (my experience with bikes with exhaust close to frame like Ducati, Husaberg 70 degree etc). If you want to keep the uncoated look, only have them coat the inside of the pipes.

Also, there should be studs not bolts holding the exhausts on, looks like someone's had them off before and just used allen head bolts when putting it back, get some studs and copper (or better still brass) nuts when reassembling it.

That 'strange' height adjustment bar is to compensate for the change in ride height that occurs when you adjust the chain. Because the adjuster is eccentric it not only pulls the wheel further back, but it will also move the axle up or down every time you adjust the chain. To keep the geometry constant, they added the height adjustment.

WD40 on the exhaust slip joints before you start trying to separate it would help, if they still dont come apart then use some heat.
Mini gas torch or a heat gun.
You could make your life so much easier ✌

If you’re going to remove the chain, grind both pin ends on a link. You can then pry the link endplate off and voila the chain is off.

Are those triple clamps anodised? If so you don't want to be scuffing those up, Chops! looks like you're having fun tho

In the future, a blowtorch often works well when you need to get pieces of metal to separate :)

Ps. Them yokes is forgings not castings. 🤪

  • @michaelhayward7572
    @michaelhayward7572 4 роки тому

Listen hobbyists, those casting marks on the yokes, take them out by hand, the old fashioned way a hand file, and lots of different grits of emery, or al/ox paper, finishing off with a 1000G. You wanna see how its done properly outside of a pro polishing shop, have a look at some of Allen Millyards work, and even then he finishes off with a floor standing 2hp polishing spindle. You have been warned/advised...
