Honestly a lot of that is because they don't have any personal context for it, their mind races to the only thing they can think of - sex - and they focus entirely on that and can't drop it because they have nothing else to think about all day.
Here is how the Female in my house thinks about it. My 71 year old wife says no one provided tampons when she was a kid. Children were expected to carry sanitary napkins themselves. Not easy to do and they faced the ridicule of the boys. She would have LOVED it if there were tampons available in the rest rooms. What do poor children do? and how great of Walz to insure that ALL children feel safe and protected. Maga hates that.

I live in a small community and went to middle school in another town. I was a poor kid growing up. Tampons in the bathroom would have been a god send.

I ran into a guy from high school at the grocery store 20 years after we graduated. He was suddenly shuffling stuff around his grocery cart. And I eventually had to say: so I see you’re trying to hide those tampons. At which point he went into paroxysms of embarrassment, and tried to explain how he usually doesn’t do the shopping because that’s a woman’s job. And he definitelywent right to the tampon section and bought exactly what she wanted and left the aisle immediately. It’s weird. Some people think it’s weird for a guy to be getting sanitary products. Why is it weird? Bc when ppl see you buy something they either think you’re getting it for yourself or for someone else. Showing too much of a personal interest can make ppl think that you’re getting them for yourself. (“Why would a guy be getting tampons? Wtf?”) Remember that trans men still are relatively invisible in media compared to trans women. After I transitioned I made sure to not stay in any section targeted towards women, be it clothing, pads and tampons, or anything else, longer than I needed to (passing through the aisles/section), because I didn’t want to be clocked or misgendered. I would imagine trans men have a greater (and justified) fear of being seen as a women; not sure if this is necessarily the same reason for cis guys The fact that there is a stigma around menstruation, which includes menstrual products, directed at women does not help

Honestly, I'm worried it is working in this way: It makes generally outraged, fearful noise towards the democratic ticket and that might be enough to sway enough voters in the right swing states. Anyone willing to take in any actual information has probably made up their mind, so what is left is a group of politically disengaged people voting on vibes. Also the tampons and period products are being added to boys locker rooms because in some schools they don’t have guest locker rooms. So when a female visiting team goes to a new school for the game they may end up using the boys locker room. Or some other room.
Ermagerd. I hadn't thought of that one as I've been out of school for many decades ... and male. I never participated in any sport during school for various reasons, so I didn't think about this. But THIS makes sense. Which, to me, is another reason why DISCUSSION from all sides is paramount for many laws or even just understanding an issue.
As a man and a former boy, I can honestly say I have never been injured by a tampon or a sanitary pad. So I can’t quite figure out why the same people who want guns in schools have their undies in a twist over having free tampons in the school restrooms.

I guarantee that Tim Walz wears that nickname as a badge of honor. It’s thoughtful, compassionate, and necessary. He has a daughter and a wife and knows how this can help many students improve attendance. My mom stored her menstrual products in the same bathroom we shared as a family and it never traumatized me.

Well, in a school in which I worked both sexes of kids used menstrual products to clog the toilets, necessitating keeping them in the counseling office to be dispensed upon request, but that's middle school kids for you. *sigh*
When high school teams travel, they don't get the home locker room. So visiting girl's teams are in the boy's locker room. Tampons in the boy's locker room seems quite reasonable to me. If the boys find them 'gross', they can just leave them alone.
My biggest concern over this issue is that some of the boys might vandalize the dispensers, but of course that's no reason not to have the dispensers. Boys who might do this (and the men they become) really need to get over this idea that anything considered "feminine" is horrifying and contemptible.

The occasional FTM trans boy needing and getting some? Great! But boys vandalizing the dispenser or using them to clog the toilets because haha, funny how these things expand and block everything? Not good. Apart from that, stocking boys' toilets with tampons should be fairly cheap - they don't expire and unless someone vandalizes them, they won't get much use, so you wouldn't have to restock often. After the initial stock, that should be negligible in a yearly budget.
One of the best comebacks to this I've heard was a lady who said, "My brother and I shared a bathroom when we were kids. I always had tampons and other feminin products in there and my brother is still alive and well to this day." This led to a discussion about single men who keep tampons in their bathrooms for female guests. Personally, I thought that was a great idea and I adopted it myself.

I've been to school in Minnesota, the school nurse will provide menstrual products to any person who needs them. I haven't seen the policy firsthand, but I can tell you Tim Walz is on the side of the people! I'm proud to have him as my governor

When I was a high school teacher I kept tampons, pads and condoms in a drawer alongside pens and pencils. My students helped themselves and were respectful about it. The tampons were the ones to go the fastest because many of my students weren't allowed to use them for their parent's fear they would pop their sacred hymen. I wish all schools made these available in all the bathrooms.

Becky here. My dad bought all of my tampons and pads. Just a dad raising a daughter on his own with some help from his sisters. Never complained or was embarrassed by it.
When I was a kid, I'd get sent to the store with the shopping list. As I had a mom and sister, pads\tampons were a staple item. I was taught from a young age that there was nothing weird or yukky about periods. It's just how women's bodies work. It's always been crazy to me that so many guys get freaked out about that.
My dad often bought the menstrual products. Once he was standing in line at Walgreen's, holding a giant Kotex box. The man behind him in line starting snickering about it and my dad announced, "I have a wife and four daughters!"
If I'm going to the store and my wife needs pads, I get pads. It's not even something to think about. The only hard part is they change the packaging all the time.
The great thing about them calling him Tampon Tim is that they're essentially saying to 50% of swing voters, "This guy cares about people like you!" They'd honestly be better off just not talking about him, but they can't help themselves.
As an European, I find it insane this is something that is debated as a political issue in the US. Having tampons in boys' bathrooms seems like it would be a mostly wasteful, I am sure most kids will have fun and not use them as intended, but who cares. Same can be said for paper towels in bathrooms. How can grown people spend their time debating tampons in bathrooms like it is super important.

Like unironically, I'd wear a t-shirt with just Tampon Tim and a big heart. It's bluntly a name that screams supportive and chill. I'm reminded of something that happened when I was a kid. My first name is the same as Scrooge McDuck's first name in my country, so a pack of older kids cornered me and tried teasing me like "Oh, so your name is Scrooge? Like, so you're rich? Har har har." Menstrual products have been in every gender-neutral bathroom I've used in the past 45 or so years (because during that time, there's been a menstruating woman living in the house). I've yet to feel any ill effects for having them around. I simply don't get how having them around us could be a bad thing.
When I was in highschool, they literally had the bathroom doors to the boys bathroom ripped off. Said it was to make sure they weren't doing drugs. Anytime you went to go number 2, you prayed no one would come in because they would see you with your pants down. As boys we were mandated to use one rusty terrible razor and no shaving cream due to school policy on beards. You think highschool boys are freaking out and worried about access to tampons????

The idea that a boy could bring home menstrual products to females in his household made me cry. What a loving and provisional act. I buy underwear for the kids at our local public school. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that menstrual needs were not being met. I’m going to find out if our school nurses need those products!
Menstrual needs are SO OFTEN overlooked. I remember in Feb 2022, after ruzzia invaded Ukraine, a couple of students at our University kindly organized a donation drive where they asked people to give stuff for the refugees coming in with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They had a list of things they asked people to donate - non-perishable food, baby food, diapers, soap, shampoo, clothes,... the list was very long and even included pet food and toys. But no menstrual products. At all. No tampons, pads, nothing. When the people coming over were women and children. They meant well but...
Menstrual products are always in high demand for the needy, not just at school but at your local food bank or homeless shelter. Get in touch with your local services and ask what they are in need of. Most often, what is most needed isn't food but menstrual products, socks, diapers, soap, toothpaste, etc. Some will also accept menstrual cups or reusable/washable sanitary napkins if you would like to invest in longer-lasting sanitary products for those in need.
I was working at Sam's Club in college. Out in the parking lot, I saw an old man approach an object laying on the ground. A pink object. I had just walked by a few moments before, so I knew what it was: a sanitary napkin, still in the wrapper. I knew this was going to be good. Sure enough, he bends down and picks it up. When he realized what it was, he yelped - actually yelped - and threw it away as if it had bitten him. Men are simply terrified of feminine products.

As a female student athlete, who played loads of team sports, and as such, spent a lot of time in boy's/men's locker rooms every time we were the visiting team (because that's where we changed), I personally know of many girls and women who would have appreciated the addition.

Here is how the Female in my house thinks about it. My 71 year old wife says no one provided tampons when she was a kid. Children were expected to carry sanitary napkins themselves. I live in a small community and went to middle school in another town. I was a poor kid growing up. Tampons in the bathroom would have been a god send.

I ran into a guy from high school at the grocery store 20 years after we graduated. He was suddenly shuffling stuff around his grocery cart. And I eventually had to say: so I see you’re trying to hide those tampons. At which point he went into paroxysms of embarrassment, and tried to explain how he usually doesn’t do the shopping because that’s a woman’s job. And he definitelywent right to the tampon section and bought exactly what she wanted and left the aisle immediately. It’s weird. Some people think it’s weird for a guy to be getting sanitary products. Why is it weird? Bc when ppl see you buy something they either think you’re getting it for yourself or for someone else. Showing too much of a personal interest can make ppl think that you’re getting them for yourself. (“Why would a guy be getting tampons? Wtf?”) Remember that trans men still are relatively invisible in media compared to trans women. After I transitioned I made sure to not stay in any section targeted towards women, be it clothing, pads and tampons, or anything else, longer than I needed to (passing through the aisles/section), because I didn’t want to be clocked or misgendered. I would imagine trans men have a greater (and justified) fear of being seen as a women; not sure if this is necessarily the same reason for cis guys

Also the tampons and period products are being added to boys locker rooms because in some schools they don’t have guest locker rooms. So when a female visiting team goes to a new school for the game they may end up using the boys locker room. Or some other room.

When high school teams travel, they don't get the home locker room. So visiting girl's teams are in the boy's locker room. Tampons in the boy's locker room seems quite reasonable to me. If the boys find them 'gross', they can just leave them alone.
My biggest concern over this issue is that some of the boys might vandalize the dispensers, but of course that's no reason not to have the dispensers. Boys who might do this (and the men they become) really need to get over this idea that anything considered "feminine" is horrifying and contemptible.

Apart from that, stocking boys' toilets with tampons should be fairly cheap - they don't expire and unless someone vandalizes them, they won't get much use, so you wouldn't have to restock often. After the initial stock, that should be negligible in a yearly budget.

I've been to school in Minnesota, the school nurse will provide menstrual products to any person who needs them. I haven't seen the policy firsthand, but I can tell you Tim Walz is on the side of the people! I'm proud to have him as my governor

When I was a high school teacher I kept tampons, pads and condoms in a drawer alongside pens and pencils. My students helped themselves and were respectful about it. The tampons were the ones to go the fastest because many of my students weren't allowed to use them for their parent's fear they would pop their sacred hymen. I wish all schools made these available in all the bathrooms.

Becky here. My dad bought all of my tampons and pads. Just a dad raising a daughter on his own with some help from his sisters. Never complained or was embarrassed by it.
When I was a kid, I'd get sent to the store with the shopping list. As I had a mom and sister, pads\tampons were a staple item. I was taught from a young age that there was nothing weird or yukky about periods. It's just how women's bodies work. It's always been crazy to me that so many guys get freaked out about that.

As an European, I find it insane this is something that is debated as a political issue in the US. Having tampons in boys' bathrooms seems like it would be a mostly wasteful, I am sure most kids will have fun and not use them as intended, but who cares. Same can be said for paper towels in bathrooms. How can grown people spend their time debating tampons in bathrooms like it is super important.

Like unironically, I'd wear a t-shirt with just Tampon Tim and a big heart. It's bluntly a name that screams supportive and chill.
I'm reminded of something that happened when I was a kid. My first name is the same as Scrooge McDuck's first name in my country, so a pack of older kids cornered me and tried teasing me like "Oh, so your name is Scrooge? Like, so you're rich? Har har har." It was the weirdest attempt at bullying I've ever tried; so you're trying to tease me over... Uh... A positive trait? I just left feeling that was strange and went to play on the playground.

Menstrual products have been in every gender-neutral bathroom I've used in the past 45 or so years (because during that time, there's been a menstruating woman living in the house). I've yet to feel any ill effects for having them around. I simply don't get how having them around us could be a bad thing.
When I was in highschool, they literally had the bathroom doors to the boys bathroom ripped off. Said it was to make sure they weren't doing drugs. Anytime you went to go number 2, you prayed no one would come in because they would see you with your pants down. As boys we were mandated to use one rusty terrible razor and no shaving cream due to school policy on beards. You think highschool boys are freaking out and worried about access to tampons????
Something ppl don't realize is, Minnesota has a huge budget overage every year, year after year. We are not taxing anyone specifically for tampons.

The idea that a boy could bring home menstrual products to females in his household made me cry. What a loving and provisional act. I buy underwear for the kids at our local public school. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that menstrual needs were not being met. I’m going to find out if our school nurses need those products!
Menstrual needs are SO OFTEN overlooked. I remember in Feb 2022, after ruzzia invaded Ukraine, a couple of students at our University kindly organized a donation drive where they asked people to give stuff for the refugees coming in with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They had a list of things they asked people to donate - non-perishable food, baby food, diapers, soap, shampoo, clothes,... the list was very long and even included pet food and toys. But no menstrual products. At all. No tampons, pads, nothing. When the people coming over were women and children.
They meant well but...
Menstrual products are always in high demand for the needy, not just at school but at your local food bank or homeless shelter. Get in touch with your local services and ask what they are in need of. Most often, what is most needed isn't food but menstrual products, socks, diapers, soap, toothpaste, etc. Some will also accept menstrual cups or reusable/washable sanitary napkins if you would like to invest in longer-lasting sanitary products for those in need.

I was working at Sam's Club in college. Out in the parking lot, I saw an old man approach an object laying on the ground. A pink object. I had just walked by a few moments before, so I knew what it was: a sanitary napkin, still in the wrapper. I knew this was going to be good. Sure enough, he bends down and picks it up. When he realized what it was, he yelped - actually yelped - and threw it away as if it had bitten him. Men are simply terrified of feminine products.

As a female student athlete, who played loads of team sports, and as such, spent a lot of time in boy's/men's locker rooms every time we were the visiting team (because that's where we changed), I personally know of many girls and women who would have appreciated the addition.
