Idc what people say, Nickelback has a lot of hits. Probably one of the most successful bands of the early 2000s. And I actually am happy when one of their songs randomly popps up. I'm not going to actively go out of my way to listen to them. But I'll definitely happily listen if their song happens to enter my earholes.
Nickleback is my coming of age sound track.
Maybe people are just jelous?
I've never been a huge fan of Nickelback, but I appreciate them. They have a few bangers and this particular song always brings back good memories.
Fun Fact: A wildly popular song that covered a range of formats, "How You Remind Me" was the most-played song of 2002 on US radio stations. It was also the most-played radio song in the US during the first decade of the 21st century, with over 1.2 million spins. It was followed on this list by Train's "Drops of Jupiter," which was played over 1.1 million times during the '00s
- This Sing Was On The Video Game Guitar Hero Warriors Of Rock And A Rock Band 3 DLC.
Chad looks like Jesus is this video so to speak.
Man I always loved this song as a kid--i was like just in my early teens when it came out. Never understood the hate they got overall but had it explained that it was basically overexposure more than anything else. Still like their stuff honestly. Great reaction guys~
From what I remember they got hugely boosted air play by some laws or incentives to play a certain percentage of Canadian music on Canadian radio and music TV stations that was introduced when they got some major album otu. That was sometimes held against them, together with a bit over polished production. Sometimes it also remembers a bit of Bush.
'It's not so bad if you close your eyes' 😂😂😂😂
Nickleback is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. They bring it and they sing it. This is coming from a dude born in 1968. I heard all of the great rock bands and solo artists from the 70's, 80's and 90''s. This band can hang with any of them.😎🤟🍻🇨🇦
Either you love them or hate them, but I love them. Their music has so many GREAT riffs. They got pushed out of the big game half-time show because of the response of so many people that didn't like them, and in their deffence , I bet 70% of them never have heard this bands music. They are such a good band.
I kinda loved Nickelback , Chad wasn't that bad looking , he has a great voice , Avril Lavigne found him hot mash at some point .. and he has earned his 80 million in his bank , and yea i have a few memories surrounding this tune 🤭 , one of the most prolific rock bands IMO ❤
After all the hate on Nickleback has subdued, a lot of people finally came out and started admitting that they secretly love Nickleback.
One of my fondest "random moments" in my life is tied to this song, and it floods back every time I hear this. I used to work at one of the many Waffle Houses in Huntsville, Alabama, and I was good friends with the cook I usually worked with. One after noon, I was heading over to his place to hang out and this song came on the radio just before I pulled into his apartment parking lot. I got out of the car, still singing my little heart out as I walked to his door. I could hear music from inside, and he was listening to the same radio station (remember those?). He opened the door and greeted me, singing along. We didn't actually speak to each other until the song ended. Great tunes and great friends. I've never understood the hate these guys get. I enjoyed them then and still to this day. Also... I wouldn't kick him out of the bed.
You should check out the nickelback documentary, it talks about how they came to fame, how they acquired their reputation, and how they dealt with it
I saw them in concert in 2017. They sounded perfect ❤🎉 I'd go again!! Far Away and this one are my favorites
I don’t get the hate either. Who cares what you look like as long as you’re putting out good music. Far Away is another song to consider which is my personal favorite.
Love Nickelback!
I’m from Calgary Alberta and they’re from a small town close to here. The local radio station played nickleback non stop for years. I had a teacher in grade 8 who was also their teacher in Hannah Alberta
Leader of Men is prior to this and it’s a song on my playlist. It’s a great song.
The Mask film ,Roy Lee Dennis , but they called him Rocky , real tearjerker that film.
I like Never Again, Hero, Too Bad and Figured You Out.
Photograph and the fact that this one is almost exactly the same as Someday (check out the video where it plays side by side) are probably most people's reasons
I Love Nickelback when I first got introduced to them by my cousin (mime and my sisters god mother) this was the song she played for us so it holds a special place in my heart❕️❗️
I'm a guy so I can't comment on his looks, but it was good enough for Avril who I'm pretty sure most of us guys would say looks pretty good.
This song was their first hit BIG.
Fear Factory, Powershifter!!!!
I think I’ve admitted this before but I like “Savin Me” ☺️
Well, they've got merch that says "Nickelback: We Suck Live!"
So clearly the hate doesn't bother them that much.
🤘😆🤘
Edit: Also, their song 'Hero' (featuring Josey Scott) was on the soundtrack for the original Sam Raimi/Tobey McGuire Spider-Man movie, and is *still* one of my all-time favorite songs.
Seen them twice live. They put on a hell of a show. Absolutely DO NOT suck live.
In secondary school a friend had a CD labled "Heavy Metal, or How You Remind Me". Needless to say, there wasn't much Heavy Metal on it.
I never understood the hate for Nickleback. I feel like a lot of the negativity is just gatekeeping edgelords who didn’t like the fact that their music was accessible and popular; you know how the music snobs are. “This band is awesome because nobody’s ever heard of them.”
A month later: “Ugh, that band I used to like is popular now so it sucks. Can’t have the average people listening to the same stuff as me!”
Straight weirdo vibes.
One of the songs that got me into rock when I was a kid
Haters gonna hate, but this is a killer song ❤🔥
They started out pretty hard hitting. A metal genre. But went all over the place even country sounding with ( photograph ). Metal Heads got their feathers ruffled. Myself being an old Metal Head. They are talented.
The long hair did no favors for Chad's facial structure. He's pretty handsome with short hair imo.
No, masks would not have helped 😂 y'all are wrong for that. The slipknot fans already hated these guys... 😂
I bought their cd back in the day & bc they definitely got overplayed it was nice to have the non-radio hits to enjoy.
The kid from Mask was Rocky Dennis played by Eric stoltz, Cher and Sam Elliott were also in the movie and Sam Elliott is a delicious hunk of man unlike your Nickelback guy LOL just kidding there's nothing wrong with him he's just not my cup of tea, just like nickelback, although I did see a live version of them covering Devil Went Down to Georgia and it was actually great so maybe that's worth a reaction from y'all, Primus did it too so don't know where you want to go with that lol🖤✌😎💚
I love Nickelback and Chad is a great looking guy with a great voice. I never understood the hate but they have a loyal fan base.
I like them as well as creed. Overexposure and constant play with what people consider formula songs. Creed lead singer went off the rails which didn't help them Chad not my type but Avril married his ass so I'm not sure what that says about her taste. Honestly limp biscuit is more d bag than these guys
This is back when I used to call Chad Kroeger "Noodles"
They have a handful of bangers and I'm tired of people pretending they don't. This song is good, photograph and the song from the Spider-Man soundtrack.
I still to this day can't understand the hate. There have been SO many other bands/artists over time that are considered "commercial" that have not attracted the hate like Nickelback do.
I've always been a fan of their music and really like how creative they are with a lot of their other music videos that help tell the story of their music. Examples - "If today was your last day", "Photograph", "Savin Me" and "Lullaby".
There's a documentary about them that I'd recommend watching where they also address the unwarranted hate. It's a great watch.
yes, it might be "so early 2000" but is still a banger.
Regardless of the hate, they’ve sold more than 50 million albums internationally, played at sold out arenas, and are considered the 11th best selling music act of all time. They had success and made lots of money. Other than a couple of songs, their material never really interested me that much, but I don’t hate them. In this case, I think there are a lot of people out there that hate them just for the sake of hating them. ✌️
Rocky Dennis!!!
Mask
🇨🇦👌 Canadian proud for the one Who knows 🤟
Nickelback, for me, was a gate band to harder rock. I went to at least 2 of their concerts in their prime. They were a lot of fun (I love pyrotechnics) and they actually sounded just like their recordings. While Chad isn't traditionally handsome, he is not ugly. I did notice that a lot of their fans are women. Traditionally, bands with a lot of women fans get a lot of hate. Not sure what that has to do with their music... And I don't think masks would have helped them but I think the gimmick of wearing mask isn't necessary if the music is good. But that's just me.
Chad's label 604 Records signed a band called Freeze The Fall who are a power trio from B.C. Canada. Quinn 17yo guitar/vocals, Aria 16yo bass/vocals and 16yo Jonah on drums, don't let the ages fool you
reactors are welcomed and appreciated and if a copyright happens contact FTF and they will sort it out for you.
reply back if you want to meet the band in comments here, Cold Front has a system were we can coordinate with FTF and they show up.
be good to one another and ROCK ON !!
Yeah, don't snooze on Freeze The Fall.
Recommend One Left Standing, official video.
I think why they got so much hate was because at least, imo, when it came to this particular cd, all the songs sounded the same. Yes, i liked this song, maybe first 100 times i heard it. Got the cd, and all the songs rolled together.
Sorry for the long ass comment...
Like you say, Chad's heard it all. I doubt his looks prevented him from getting the ladies. Daily.lol
I can't speak for everyone, but I know when I first heard these guys, Creed, and Silverchair in my early-mid 20s, my first reaction was "these singers are ripping off Eddie Vedder." There were so many singers at that time trying to sound like Vedder. It got to be too much. It kinda felt like they were riding his coattails. That said, I learned to appreciate all of those bands later on. Well after they'd been shoved down our throats for so long. I blame radio & video shows for overplaying them.
I'm from Vancouver, where they live. We were hearing about them already, before they got big. They annoyed me at the time, but when they made it big, I was secretly happy for them and proud of them. I'm still proud of them even though I never paid a cent for anything of theirs. Sorry guys!
You guys really gotta check out the documentary Nickelback: Hate To Love on Netflix. It's from 2023. You get to see the guys nowadays reflecting on back then, and how they dealt with the hate. They seem like pretty down-to-earth guys who can make fun of themselves.
As far as I remember a famous comedian roasted the band, especially Chad and after that everyone started hating them for no reason and that hatred spreaded like cancer. Even in the Rock/Metal industry.
Sadly Chad took it too serious and tried to make the music sound more like metal.
They have been a solid Rock Band back then and the lyrics are very well written. Chad´s duet with Josey Scott for the Spiderman Movie was fire.
What started as a prank ruined Nickelback´s reputation.
They just started making the same shit over and over. This song and the entire Silver Side Up album is fantastic! They became very pretentious when they gained fame.
The reason they got a lot of hate from music fans and other genres was more so due to their algorithmic, pop inspired radio friendly songs that didn't match up with the grungy, rockstar image they tried to portray for themselves. They got rich and popular with soccer mom types by looking pseudo-grunge while producing pop-rock music and a lot of people saw them as sellouts and posers, hence the hate.
That said, I enjoy this song and a few other songs of theirs. Nothing really against them personally, but I also can't take them seriously at all.
When you get really popular people hate you ,just like Bon Jovi too
Morning, guys. I used to like this song once upon a time. They used to play this and others again and again at my old job. Now, I can't stand nickleback. Lmao! Sorry.......😂😂
The problem isn’t with the band, it’s with Chad lol he talked some shit, got proved wrong and doubled down instead of shutting up about it 😂
When that song get radio play every single time you start to get annoyed so that’s where the problem comes from the second problem is that chad was a douchbag
How you remind me is the Baby Shark of the But Rock world!
Check out Liberate by Disturbed. Maybe go Nu Metal Monday….
The problem with them that changed was when they were saying they were better than other bands. The biggest thing they started was beef with slipknot. Their song this means war was like giving the finger to slipknot
I don’t dislike this song but the band definitely has a studio executives mass produced this type feel. Photograph especially. I really don’t feel too bad for the hate. They obviously are rich (if they lived reasonably) and have some fans.
Where most of us started with 'em. Good/great sounding tune. Nothing I heard subsequently rose to the same level. Heard tales of rock'n'a**holery, misogyny, etc. Wotevs. Live and let be...
"Arf pudding"?! Nailed it, Hollywood! 😅
✌🏼😁🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
It’s almost irresistible to sing along to this song. I just saw a funny thing on IG about it. As for the attractiveness thing, this hairstyle does him no favors, reminds me of a poodle. When he cut his hair short, he looked way better.
🐩 😆 you’re right, he did look better when he cut his hair
A great band and good lyrics. Love this band. Don’t get why the hate is there.
He is not so bad looking that I wouldn’t want to listen to their music lol. They are great live. I don’t understand the hate. I think that being soooo overplayed is probably where the hate started.
Nunca percebi o porquê do ódio a esta banda, adoro, tem músicas muitos boas...
They didn't get a lot of hate at this point. Thy wrote honest rock with genuine emotion. They started getting blanket hate when they started writing about being rich and popular.
Creed got hate for the apparent hypocrisy, writing clearly christian songs, selling in christian stores, and claiming no religious affiliation. Not to mention Stapp's decidedly not-church-appropriate proclivities...
Lots of memories with this song. Some I rather not remember. I'm sure back in the day, in my early 20's, I thought he was cute. Now it's cringy because I think of all the other guys I thought were cute while this was popular. It's a me problem.
I think people are closet Nickelback fans, lol. It started when some comedian on late night made fun of them, and everything spirals from there. It's hard to hate them really. Amazing voice, perfect guitar tones, super catchy songs, etc. they got a lot of good songs. Someday, Something In Your Mouth, Figured You Out, Animals, Million Miles And Hour, San Quentin, etc.
I'm tempted to say "it's just fun rock music. Don't take it too seriously" but on the other hand, I actually find that Chad has a real nack of making these songs about sex and dumb fun and adding these little undertones of something more sinister. Like in Figured You Out which at first just sounds like a simple "this relationship is toxic but the sex is so good" kinda song, with more focus on the sex. but the more you read between the lines it sounds more like a song about abuse, and less sex. "I love the way you cash the cheque, I love the good times that you wreck, I love your lack of self respect when your passed out on the deck, I love my hands around your neck."
As a kid I jumped on the Nickelback hate train not because I disliked their music but because it's what everybody else was doing. In retrospect it was stupid of course, since it still is generic rock from a time where that music dominated the radio and still does to some extent. It was a lot of people getting tired of hearing it overplayed and getting super popular, so naturally people would push back and call it shit.
I think Chad is married to Avril Lavigne!
I’ve always interpreted it… and I could be way off… as, he’s basically kicking himself and calling himself stupid for getting into this relationship. Like he can’t do anything right. He’s not wise, he wouldn’t be good at stealing from anyone even if he were broke as hell… and now here she is, another example of his stupidity 🤷🏻♀️
I Like Nickelback too.
its a good catchy rock song, 90% of their catalog is milk toast though. Even the video is innoffensive and boring. They are dad rock, mom rock, etc. They aren't that bad though, its just a meme.
Yes, I find him attractive.
I’m so confused…is all the hate because of Chad’s looks? Umm..lead singer of Scorpions? Dio? Also There were plenty of bands that had the same kind of sound “post grunge” why are they getting all the hate? Just asking
Every body says they don't listen to Nickelback, and they are all liars lol
i hope u can grant my request for blindspott room to breathe reaction..
Whats the hardest part of being a Nickelback fan?
Telling your parents you're gay.
😂😂😂😂
I thought that was the hardest part about being a rollerblader...
Nickelback got so much hate because they got SO big SO fast. It's good music with easy lyrics that makes you want to sing along. That should be good enough. People assumed because it's popular it must be overrated but it's not, it's just party music. It's never going to win a Pulitzer like Kendrick but Taylor Swift gets called overrated all the time, too, even though she could likely get a Pulitzer for her lyric writing in the next 5 years. They got really popular, we're accused of having formulaic music, and was demonized as overhyped.
Overexposure was what happened to Nickelback. When you get so popular people can't get enough of you, eventually that love turns to hate.
Collective soul is better but that's opinion!
An average yet pretty strong professionally band. Nothing significant, one of many good surrogates and followers of great rockers of the past. Something between B and C leagues so to say.
Pls don't compare Creed to Nickelback. Creed much more deeper music though they somehow similar in musical style ( more less). I would give firm " B " category to Creed, and " C +" category to Nickelback.
Nickelback and Creed were both victims of success and over exposure.
Nickel back at the beginning were a legit Rock band but then they went mainstream and country and they were horrible and lost their fan base
I remember my wife once saying that she loved bad music so I get her the entire Nickelback catalogue.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you two lip sync & move to a song like this. The drama my oh my.. 🤗
Victims of their own success. I can listen to nickelback and really recognise how insanely talented they are. But I don't like perfectly produced studio music.
I like them. If they think he's ugly, so what. Mick Jagger was not a great looking dude. And many more, really! Ozzy not a great looking dude. Love the song though.
As you all know ive been a metalhead my whole life. Even listening to death metal in 6th grade so when i hear this its like the guy being tortured with music in a clockwork orange. But my personal dislike for the band is it never sparked an interest. It didnt help that every radio station would play this song 35 times a day every day. It was so overplayed that you developed a hatred to the band.
Garbage candy pop.
