The entire violator record is incredible, what a way to open the 90's
Best first 7 tracks ever.
I've listened to this album hundreds of times, easily, over the years. Absolute bangers!
This and Nirvana were 2 sounds that launched the 90s
Maybe it’s nostalgia…but Violator is the #1 album I’ve ever owned. There isn’t a skippable song on the entire thing
Let me show You the world in My eyes is amazing
I also want to add that metal community has a lot of respect for Depeche Mode.
No we don't. LoL
Came to say the same thing!
As a metal drummer for 20+ years, I agree, Depeche Mode are the real deal! This is probably my favorite of their tracks!
100% Also band vibes with metal music too. Their conserts has played metal like as a before-show music. I may have seen Nergal (singer-guitarist-leaderdude) from Behemoth hanging with Dave Gahan once. Slipknot is sort of connected to Depeche too. Lots of metal bands cover their music from In Flames to Rammstein, Dillinger Escape Plan... What more I can say 😁
I’ve played drums for metal bands for 20+ years, and I absolutely adore Depeche Mode.
This album is a masterpiece. One of my favorites. Dark, seductive, ethereal and really catchy.
Agreed. You can hear elements of this album and this track in particular in Flood’s (the producer) later work, particularly The Downward Spiral (NIN), To Bring You My Love (PJ Harvey), and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Smashing Pumpkins).
every time Ryan said "kid stuff" I was so glad Just Can't Get Enough didn't win the poll lmao
They were kids when they made that though so kid stuff fits!
Honestly one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs. Such a fun and happy song that never fails to make me smile and move.
🤣🤣
Its way positive
Ryan a black testicle at least that what he look like
Depeche Mode is always going to have that vampire night club vibe
Depeche Mode had the clubs bumpin back in the day. They ruled the club scene like no other back in the day
this sexy sad electro goth stuff is awesome. The rock only crowd can take a hike.
that's exactly it lol
it's not "electro", that's not even a genre.
@@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl8262 yet we all knew what they were saying. It's almost like language gatekeepers are the problem, no?
Its not electro which is in fact a music genre. It is NOT GOTH , lol. It amazes me that so many people cant understand what goth is.
@@An_Dulachan Is it they/we can't understand, or just don't care enough to dig into intricacies that you find important, but generally speaking, doesn't matter at all to listening? I could be that person all day about sports, correcting people who misuse a term or concept. Same with skateboarding. Same with economic principles. But then...who'd want to be around me? If the colloquial misuse doesn't change the message, why?
Never let me down again is my jam, especially how big the bridge sounds.
His best friend is drugs in the song, so it's not "kid stuff".
Yes, they have very few songs that are kid stuff. Most have pretty deep meanings.
"This is for grown-ups" great observation. The band is older here and have had time to hone their craft. This band has aged well.
exactly..
I'm a rock/metal guy, but this entire album is flawless.
"Violator" was THE 1990 Summer album -- a breakout on every level they produced before.
When I say everyone was listening to this -- I mean EVERYONE!! (That was the summer before my last year in college).
YES! One of my all time favorite albums
@@hollyroxy25🎉🎉 Totally!
I was just going into college. This was huge everywhere. 4 songs or so were huge hits. It was like the Police's Synchronicity. It was so huge.
@@carlpeterson8182 Great analogy to "Synchronicity."
The Police were like a "small" supergroup with three uniquely distinct personalities, each member becoming household musical names with help from Synchronicity.
Sure "Violator" boosted Depeche Mode's range of eyeballs&eardrums, but I think that album itself took center stage apart from the band.
The "niche" vibe of their music faded away and matured into something darkly sleek, contagiously danceable with lyrics you start mouthing before your head starts bobbing.
No U2 anthems or Madonna flirty pop -- Depeche Mode gave us our own private dance clubs to bob and hum to.
Policy of truth, everything counts, walking in my shoes, blasphemous rumors and shake the disease are my fave depeche mode songs. So many bangers. I saw them in 2023 and they're still phenomenal live.
One of my favorite bands. Dave’s voice is just so instantly recognizable.
“I love white people man”
-George
😂
lmao
"I Feel You" and "Personal Jesus" would be better selections for you guys. Cool to see you Modin' in the meantime!
They were SO high up the polls. Personal Jesus had a seperate poll.
"I Feel You" - "Walking In My Shoes" - That whole album is great.
I feel you...maaaaan😊🎉
Depeche Mode is one of the most legendary and innovative musical artists in the history of recorded music. If you have any ear for production you will be able to discern how incredible the sonics on the Violator album actually are. The band has more great songs than most bands ever achieve in their career.
I'm a old school headbanger - and Never Let Me Down rocks. Just something about DM always got me.
Same here. Been a rabid metalhead since the '80s, but man, I have always dug Depeche Mode. Don't know what it is about them, but they definitely scratch an itch I didn't know I even had.
The best friend is drugs, George. Is drugs.
George - Never let me down is much more darker than you think. Best friend here is anything that allows you to escape reality , for example all of the addictions.
The best friend in the song is god. If you know and understand Martin Gore and what he writes about you understand it is mos def god. Martin Gore does not write songs about drugs. Its a song about someone eho has taken their will back and indulged to heavily in something whem they knew better, and is feeling the consiquences of their actions. The person is saying im going back to god now and going back to the spiritual principles to live by. The I hope he never lets me down again is a joke, meaning often when we make mistakes we might ask, why is this happening to me god? Or why are you putting me through this? Its not god that is doing it, its the person doing it to themselves, because they have done somethung they know they should not have again, hence the need to go back to god or whatever you have faith in.
@@An_Dulachan Martin Gore was quoted in issue #44/1987 of Bravo Magazine:
"I wrote this song last March. And it was such a long time ago that I cannot say much about it anymore. But you're wrong [about the song being about my girlfriend], the song has nothing to do with relationships. It's about the concept of fleeing from reality and the evil awakening afterwards. Any kind of fleeing. Drugs, alcohol, or whatever."
Their song "useless" you may enjoy. They helped raise me, so, I will forever hold a spot in my heart for them. I've been told they are an aquire taste, but if you let them in, as you have, you'll find something, somewhere, in their vast catalog. They will forever be dark and ominous, but in the most authentic way. Thank you guys❤😊
The production on this album for the time period was INSANELY good. The whole album is great and influenced generations of bands.
Watching you two dashing young urbanites rocking out to techno makes my day.
Guys! Depeche Mode- ITS NO GOOD (official video)
It’s an awesome track and a rediculous video where the band leans into the quirkiness and plays over the top lounge singers.
You are welcome. 👍
i used to hate DM and suddenly in my late 20s they hit me. they re so innovative and once you get in the mood they take you on a ride man. now they re in my top all time artists.
i dont get the problem with the vocals at all
There’s literally nothing wrong with it lol 😂. Dave is a phenomenal vocalist!
I FEEL YOU and CONDEMNATION are 2 D.M. Must Hears!
My absolute favorite Depeche track and they have some good ones. So dark and groovy at the same time
Y’all have made me love Depeche Mode and Black Sabbath even more than I already did. And Type O negative, they are like the children of those two bands lol
That’s awesome that you both enjoyed it. Personal Jesus is also a banger.
This album has some serious bangers, classic music. Thanks for highlighting this tune.
"I can see why someone wouldn't like this ! " George, nobody dislikes Depeche Mode ! Just the guy next to you.... :D Amazing voice ! I suggest "in your room". Let's scare Ryan.
they should check "world in my eyes"
I LOVE Never Let Me Down Again! 😂 And this.
They rock, Strangelove probably my favorite of theirs!
white guy here * hilarious with Dave white voice, we can all laugh at our differences and get along. Keep up the great work guys!
It's funny how worlds intersect - where I come from Depeche Mode was very known and kinda part of the culture (as someone mentioned, metalheads respect them too)... Must be so interesting to listen to it where for you it's super niche!
Never EVER shy away from the songs that you liked when you were younger, they are a part of what makes you you. How is that a problem? We all like what we like, and most of us have some songs that we like that will make our friends cringe, but who the f*ck cares? At that point in your life, the song made an impression on you, and now you should be ashamed because someone considers it bad or cringy? Nope. This is what we are.
I love this whole album...
When is U2 on the list? Bad (live from Rattle & Hum), Bullet the Blue Sky (also live from Rattle & Hum), and All I Want is You/Where the Streets have no name (Live at Slane Castle). Game-changer songs. Let's get on it.
The whole Violator album is 🔥
Oh, they have SOOO many great songs, fellas. I think you will enjoy most of them. Great melodies and lyrics.
I love that Ryan and George can just roast a song and you not get a bunch of butthurt comments. I loved this one and I'm a fan of every song mentioned. The impressions! 😂
Y'all need to pay a listen to the "Songs of Faith + Devotion" album. They incorporate a lot of gospel into the production.
Nice reaction! Not sure if y’all have gotten around to it yet, but their song, “Strangelove”, is an absolute banger! If you think this song has a cool groove, I’d be curious to see y’all’s reaction to Strangelove!
No worries, we like black folks too! :) LOL
Everything comes from something else, right? :D
Seriously, it's an iconic song for the era.
Who knows how many other musicians they've influenced?
And in the end all that matters is that people could enjoy their music.
The entire Violator album is arguably Depressed Mood's best. The songs just pump, the vocals are haunting, and the keyboard textures are just amazing!
Being a real metalhead all my life, I never cared for this back at the time, it has definitely grown on me.
Ok no hate for liking Behind the Wheel! It is one of the best songs ever! Also love the fact you 2 revisited Depeche Mode!
Also the band has been honing their craft since 1981! This is the early 90's! After the third or forth album the also changed up the sound every album! Yet it is always Depeche Mode and no one can say it's someone else!
You would like “in your room” from them.
Im a late bloomer when it comes to Depeche Mode, but when I heard this song, it became clear that they were on a level of their own. Few songs I've heard have this sort of slick on it. One of my all time favorite songs. It is physically impossible not to bounce to this song. It's a perfect 10 for me.
I was ready to dislike this video if you guys did not thoroughly enjoyed this amazing song.
You guys should get to Barrel Of A Gun by DM!
They’re past their prime now but they pulled one out of the hat with “Precious” a few years back. Sooooo smooth.
“Nasally but white” had me cracking up! I miss racial “not racist” comedy from early 00s like Chappelle where we could all laugh at each other in good fun
And this is a perfect example of why one should always keep an open mind. I’ve always “liked” a few of songs by DM but when I first heard this one I knew I had to take a deeper dive into their catalog.
My buddies and I also grew up listening to hip hop and R&B back in the day, but we were also HUGE fans of DM too! We had an 80's synth pop band, loved their sound, and wanted to sound just like them in certain ways. RIP Andy!
Thanks for the great reaction! I think I know what y’all like at this point so check out their song “In your room”
That song is moody, rough, and dark…awesome production and layering… Ear candy
I love Depeche mode!!!
Songs of Faith and Devotion❤❤❤
KING ……, LOS!!!!!!!!!!! I’m begging at this point 😂😂😂😂😂
Need that Coast Conta Act reaction asap!!!!!
08 Obama 🙌🔥
As a white, I laughed my ass off at "nasally, but white!"
You're getting into it. I think you will be surprised with "It's No Good" one of their best. And also the dark one "Barrell of a Gun"
Now I don't know how'd you react to World In My Eyes
As a metalhead, listening and playing thrash and death metal, DM is my favorite band and a big inspiration.
Lots of rock and metal bands were influenced by them, bands like Paradise Lost, Moonspell, Samael, Rammstein, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and many more
All these machines,
Making modern music,
Can still be open hearted.
The legend Neil peart
Depeche Mode rules. Stripped and In Your Room (Zephyr Mix) are my favorite songs by them
Weekend just dropped album of the year, Travis Scott drops a song, and we’re out here doing videos on “Depeche Mode”.. crazy world.
You need to hear more 90s DM - Walking in my shoes or In your room will grab you for sure.
Depeche Mode just has that effect. I wasnt into them because of how simple it sounded, until I heard Enjoy the Silence and began to see the genius behind it
I absolutely love the album version of Enjoy the Silence. The ambient section after the main song is KILLER
Nobody can fault you for liking 'Never Let Me Down Again' ;-) - And 'Policy Of Truth' is a really pretty good song too
I'm not a big Depeche Mode fan, but I agree that there is something about Never Let Me Down Again that I love.
Plus, as hip-hop fans, they may know that the intro was sampled years ago by 3rd Bass.
Nasally but white!!🤣I love some DM (for the sound design if nothing else) but you nailed it. 😆Anyway great reaction to what is probably my favorite DM song!
That was hilarious 😂!
I heard that Depeche Mode would throw pots and pans down the stairs to get ideas for beats and grooves.
I enjoyed this reaction so much, glad you two hadba good time! Can't wait for more DM and we should def put you towards Songs Dave sings like he does here so Ryan can enjoy it too haha
Check out their live concert from Paris for a true representation of what they sound like...
Shake the Disease is an underrated song by them. So good
I was on 7 concerts of DM...the best days of my life!Try In my room...
George has me lol ing...AT WORK ....
'Peche is an all time dance music band as a wedding party DJ in the 80s/90s they were must in So Cal....I would always spin "Get The Balance Right" when I could.. all their hits were also released as 12" dance mix🔥🔥
Coast has dropped twice and king los had 20 min freestyle what are y’all doing?
No shame in loving yourself a little Depeche Mode!
Theyre still relevant. Depeche mode is timeless.
"Enjoy the Silence" is one those that I hated at first as a kid, but it just grew on me. Lacuna Coil did a really sick cover as well.
"Policy of Truth" was always my favorite song on this album. I remember driving around Houston late at night with mostly empty freeways seeing all the buildings lit up around with this cd playing in a loop. I've bought this album so many times. I wore the cassette tape out. Scratched a few discs up. Now I have it on my pc.
Was "Personal Jesus" on that poll? It should be the next one
It was included in my poll. I put it last (choice # 10).
I had a pretty decent day, but watching this just now made me laugh for the first time today, and it's been dark outside for a few hours. Yeah, that other song you were mentioning is a little 'meme-y'. But I saw them live for their 'Songs of Faith & Devotion' tour (released 1993), and there are some good cuts on that album. Love you guys. You've come so far.
Such a great band
Check out "It's No Good" by Depeche Mode
It took me a while and some can be cringe but eventually i gave in and got a few cds. They are progressive good bands progress
They would LOVE Songs of Faith and Devotion
I saw them on this tour...fire!!!
Good choice, now do BARREL OF A GUN
They need to listen to Condemnation
Im sure i saw a doco about the rise of Chicago house and that the djs talked about taking heaps of samples from depeche mode tracks in the 80s if you need a link to home.
Now you know.
you finally got to DP. So many songs to react to including... Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus, Strange Love, It's No Good, Precious, Stripped, Walking in my Shoes, World in my Eyes, Halo. That's a good start for some of their hottest arrangements. DP is one of a kind. Killer!
The godfathers of techno pop
I think you guys would like two early Tears for Fears albums (The Hurting and Songs From the Big Chair). Innovative, incredible production, great songwriting. Theres way more to them than "Everybody Wants To Rule the World."
They need to check out barrel of a gun
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this song. Since you guys liked this one for Depeche Mode, then you guys might want to react to either their songs "Stripped" or "Precious". Personally, I say react to Precious from them.
Their best album, but much less radio-friendly, is Black Celebration from 1986. You get the quintessential DM industrial sound. I suggest Fly on the windscreen or the title track.
