Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 вер 2024
- Vestrahorn, also known as Stokksnes, is one of the most popular landscape photography destinations in all of Iceland! And it's understandable why! Personally, I've been there 10+ times and each time is unique! In this video, I'll also discuss why I keep returning and why it makes me happy.

The word EPIC was made for this video and these collection of photos. Really good images Mads! Loved it.
Thank you SO much, Nigel! Means a lot coming from you :)
Same about your videos too Nigel!!
'...it just caught the sense I felt at that moment, in that particular scene. It was just vast, cold and empty...' Brilliant. And that should be the one and only reason people make photos :)
I can think of a few other reasons too, but you're right ;)
I visited the Highlands in Iceland this past summer, in the middle of the night for sunrise/sunset, so I absolutely know what you mean about the bleakness and emptiness of the landscape. It was -- at lest for me -- just as beautiful as it was unsettling. You also clearly experienced a moment of clarity and transcendance at the 10 minute mark, which is wonderful to see and hear.
I have no words. Amazing work.
Thank you very much, Lukas!
You are an artist! An amazing artist Mads. I have had the pleasure of doing a workshop with you and Nigel and both of you taught me to love my photography. Find the passion in what I do and it changed the way I shoot. I am heading back to Iceland in August for my 4th and probably last trip. I know when I leave I will feel accomplished and sad. Because I have given my all to this amazing location and sad because I know it will most likely be my last and saying good by to my Ole friend won't be easy. I watch your iceland series before every trip and learn everytime Inwatch them. Thank you.
An ispirational piece of work here. Thank you.
Thank you very much, Michael! Much appreciated!
Speechless.. Not word can describe what beautiful this place
WOW, wow, wow. Mads when I think you've reached a peak with your videos, you post a new one that is even better. Everything we see and hear is outstanding, plus your philosophy on life is one we should all follow. Thank you.
Thank you so very much, John! I'm happy I can keep improving and that my message comes through :)
Wonderful Mads! I love your passion. There are no words to describe the beauty of Vestrahorn.
Oh yes, your message comes so through Mads, and it feels like I'm constantly together with you by all these nice places on these earth because you can transport so wonderful and strong your emotions and feelings :) and it makes me happy to see you are happy ...
Thank you thank you thank you

as always exciting video for those who love nature and photography
Thank you very much, Daniele!
Incredible photos. Super video. This is an amazing location and I can see why you have been there so often. I also enjoyed your wisdom.
Thanks a lot, Frank! I'm very pleased to hear that :)
I loved seeing the same location in various seasons. Really brings home how you can see different things every time you go.
Excellent video on this A-mazing location. And yes, do things in life that make YOU happy.
Thanks a lot as always, Richard! I hope to see you on future tours since they seem to make you happy! :)
Developing/editing a shot with the same feelings that you had when shooting it creates the best images. Even if it does not generate likes it generates something way more important and invaluable: memories! And those memories are worth more then anything else.
Yes exactly Dennis! Worth everything
I love how you take us on the journey, dissecting all aspects of getting a quality image, to include the right subject at the right time, with the right light and standing in the right spot and post-processing as an integral part of securing that image. Your enthusiasm always knocks me out. I hope you are doing this deep into the future.
Thanks a lot, Brad! I'm very happy my enthusiasm shines through :)
It is a beautiful place, and your pictures of it are as nice as diverse. Interesting thoughts about life as well. A nice video!
Thank you very much, Luke! I'm happy to hear that :)
This is the perfect place where I want to be 🧡. Thanks for sharing the beauty of this place ❤️
WOW! Just WOW! I just discovered YOU online yesterday and I've already watched so many of your videos. Each one is so incredibly amazing...your videography and photography. My family and I will be visiting Iceland next week and you have really inspired us to take great shots. We are amateur photographers who love to travel. Thanks so much....for your wonderful talent and for sharing so much information in an effort to help others strive for greatness. I honestly cannot imagine who can watch your videos and then click 'thumbs down'.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Good luck in Iceland, it's amazing to say the least. And in regard to thumbs down, haters gonna hate ;)
Great video and wonderful pictures Mads , nice to hear someone else with a mindset to take in this wonderful world we live in and be life rich! Thanks again for the vlog! 👍
I spent a year there in 1965-1966 while stationed with the U. S. Air Force at the 667th AC&W Squadron. A beautiful place where we spent our free time photographing the northern lights, mountain climbing, exploring the glaciers, ice fishing and etc. in the area around the site.
What an unbelievable site. All seasons give such diverse shots. Love the long exposure in winter down low. Great segment, thanks.
Thank you very much, Tom. Yes it's beautiful all year!
I loved it. One of my fav mountains in Iceland, I call it Dragon back mountain. Most beautiful location you can find. Stunning photos Mads! best regards
Breathtaking!
Thank you very much, Jerry!
Brilliant mads spectaular images and thanks for sharing your thoughts
Thanks a lot, Jim as always :)
Given the opportunity I would also choose to keep coming back to a place that beautiful. Your footage just keeps getting better and better my friend. I agree with you about the art of what we do. Happy and fulfilled is the way to go. I have been very fortunate in my life and now at 59, every day in the great outdoors with a camera is so joyful.
Aaah I can imagine, James! I enjoy it too! And thank you very much :)
What a great vlog Mad, very inspirational and brilliant images too.
Thank you very much, Robert!
Love your videos,so relaxing.
Thanks, I'm happy to hear that :)
Stunning - so fantastic! One of your best videos - thanks Mads :)
Thank you very much, Dad :)
I love this place.Superb video Mads thank you for sharing.
I'm so glad i found your channel and subscribed. Your beautiful images and relaxing music are so captivating! I learn so much from every episode. Thank you for taking us along. And Nigel!
Truly a great location showcase. Nice video!
Thank you very much! :)
When you look at the images you could be forgiven for thinking you were on another planet until you see the people in the drone images. Really was a powerful vlog Mads as you got a strong feeling of the cold across the rugged landscape but at the same time the drone photography projected such a feeling of serenity. Amazing episode
Thank you very much. Yes there's a full display of everything going on here :)
Yes! Rock-on Mads! ✌️
Haha, thank you, Erik! I will!
Great and inspiring video Mads. I love all your work and keep pumping it out.
Just stunning. I wish I was there.
I have been there 4 times now and I got the same feeling every time as well. It is one of my highlights on my Iceland trips.
Very well done.
Thank you very much, Clemens and yes! Always a highlight :)
Absolutely stunning Images Mads! Well done! Great to hear your thoughts on life and photography! In the end, we all should hope to have lived a happy and fulfilled life!
Yes exactly! That's what it's all about :)
WOW, another phenomenal video. Thanks for sharing.
You're most welcome, Bob! And thanks a lot :)
What a location!
Yes! Indeed it's spectacular :)
What a fantastic location!!!!! your images are awesome!!!
Thanks a lot, Spike! :)
What a unique location, yet another one for my Iceland bucket list. I totally agree with you life is for living & being happy, the bonus we have with photography is that in years to come we can sit down & look at our photos & remember the good times. Another great video mads, roll on next Tuesday ☺️
Ah yes, that is right. I have so many fond memories stored in my photos :)
Beautiful photos and stunning video! I love your attitude to the life. These moments we will remember all our life!
Thank you very much, Ihor!
Yep... EPIC! ❤
Love love these pictures. I agree that taking pictures for yourself is very fulfilling. Likes and comments, making money is just a bonus. You can’t put a price on self fulfillment.
Great work! Love the video and recommendations.
You're welcome, Teja and thanks a lot :)
I really like your philosophy and way of thinking. I’ve always considered myself as being a portrait photographer, but much to my surprise, my interest is now turning more and more towards landscape photography. I’m now just enjoying the journey my photography is taking me to. Thank you for your work here. It’s teaching me SO much
Fantastic video Mads. What an amazing locaiton and your photographs from there are stunning. I also really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on photography and what it means to you. Can't wait to the next one!
Thank you once again, Julian! The next one will be epic too ;)
I like epic videos! :-)
Mads, I so enjoyed Episode 22 last week, but this episode is just stunning. I lam so impressed by the quality of the video that accompanies your narration, especially the drone footage. You take B-roll to a whole new level. As usual your discussion about composition and the technical details is top notch. I love the way you are open in discussing what gives purpose and meaning for you. As you said, money and things we acquire cannot do it. I agree that art and creating art have to be a part of being fulfilled. And if last week wasn't enough, the footage from Stokksnes definitely puts Iceland on my 2019 list. Outstanding stuff as always, Mads!
Thank you so much, Colin! I'm happy you agree I fully believe that'll make peoples lives better :)
Mads, I have just gobbled up this amazing video because I've been there and I've tried. I was there, in 2015, but the weather was just abyssmal the day we had to visit. I am so sad that I had no chance to wait it out. I knew how stunning this place was but I didn't have the chance to linger and wait for the weather to give what it can give. You've given me resolve to return and give it more attention. Alone.
Thank you very much, Tom! I hope you'll return and get the photos you deserve! :)
fantastic video with images to match!!!
Thank you very much, Andy!
Super helpful video Mads. Many thanks for sharing.
I’ve just gone through all your Iceland videos and I think that is about my next 10 holidays accounted for. Beautiful place, pictures and video set. Well done
Thanks a lot! I hope you'll enjoy the trip! :D
Very impressiv video mads. IT is so inspiring. So good. Thank you for it. My favorite one. Your image what you take of this place are very good.
You're most welcome, Michael! Thank you very much :)
Your travel advice is exceptional- very giving of your time and information. Thanks Mads!
You're most welcome, Glenn!
You are indeed an artist Mads. What a truly inspiring landscape and how could you not be happy there? Nice to see 2 of my favorite vloggers capturing such stunning videos and stills. Keep up the awesome work!
Wise words my man. Really epic video and words.
Thank you very much, Aritz! :D
Mads - I’ll be standing in front of the Stokksness in June. Can’t wait. Thank you for all your wonderfull videos. I thoroughly enjoy them. But I particularly enjoyed your outlook on life in this video. I couldn’t agree more with you. Thanks for sharing.
You're most welcome, Steve! Good luck on getting some great shots :)
what an epic video , I'm actually planning my trip to Iceland. this video inspired me in so many ways.
For me Mads this is one of your "strongest" videos from the series. Really enjoyed your talk, your video and photography, it doesn't get better than this ;). Not to mention that i witnessed my first aurora here, so i'm already in love with this amazing place!
Thank you very much, Entoni! Yes! The first place you witness the aurora will always have a special place in your heart!
Thank you for taking me back to Iceland.....even if it was only for 15minutes and 39 seconds......I felt like I was there again!
I'm very happy to hear that! :)
loved it all Mads
I'm very happy to hear that, Tudor!
My favourite episode by far! Beautiful story-telling, message and images!!! Thanks Mads!!!
Thank you very much, James! I'm very happy to hear that :)
I'm not usually a fan of stretched out foregrounds and shrunken down backgrounds because I often feel the sense of scale is lost, and the scene ends up looking fairly underwhelming, while in reality it was the complete opposite. But here, I believe you managed to achieve a very good balance with your wide-angle composition. In this case, I quite like that the foreground is stretched out because I find it exaggerates the distance between the mountains, and the viewer, which effectively emphasizes the feeling of emptiness. And you know, I think that in this photo, the fact that the mountains are shrunken down only reinforces the impression that they are very far away from the viewer. The colors and the subtle hue variations really portray the unforgiving coldness of the north. Also, the sky frames the mountains nicely and the tonal variations add to the dramatic mood of the scene.
All in all, your image at 10:19 is one my favourite photos EVER. I believe that it perfectly conveys the feelings that you intended it to, and in my opinion, that is the true essence of photography.
When I look at your image, it makes me feel like I've been walking alone for hours in some very vast arctic plains in a ferocious blizzard, when finally, it calms down, and I manage to spot some beautiful mountains very far away in the distance. If I had to give this picture a title, it would most likely be : "Frozen Desolation". Seriously epic image in my opinion, well done!
Thank you very much for those very deep thoughts, Yann! I'm very happy you like that photo as I said it's one of my own favorites. I've mainly thought of the name "Emptiness" but I normally don't name my photos. I produce too many :P
I subscribe to many channels (including Julian Baird's, above) but seldom have I been so captivated by a video as I have with this one. The aerial shots and the images are superb. Your commentary was inspiring as well. In your own words - "epic".
Oh I'm so very happy to hear that, Bill! Thank you very, very much :)
great movie and great place M.
Thank you very much, Ka!
Poor fellow that fell in the water.. Another location added to the ever growing list! But that's a good thing! Thanks for sharing the beauty of the world Mads, and thanks for the insight into your why of photography.
You're most welcome, Oddbjørn! And he has probably dried up since ;)
Truly stunning location and your images captured it beautifully. Never tire of your inspirational work Mads, many thanks
Thank you very much, Jamie! I'm very happy to hear that :)
STRONG PICTURES AND STRONG WORDS!!! Mads, thanks for sharing this (as you keep saying) "EPIC" location. Further more - thanks for sharing YOUR epic work. :-)
Haha and EPIC thank you, Stephan! :)
Another incredible video. I so look forward to them. I love your format and I really appreciated your indepth overview. I hope that all future episodes are like this. I visited Iceland just last October and I can kick myself because I completely missed this location.
Hehe, then you should just go back! :) Most of my videos are/will be like this :)
Fabulous as usual Mads. Enjoyed the philosophical thoughts on life. I've said for years I'm not going to come to the end of my days and ask myself "what if ?" Thanks again for sharing your world👍
Thank you very much, Tony! Yes, exactly! Live your life and answer your own questions :)
So nice, Thanks 👍👍,I will remember these uploads when I'm 80 years old ☺️☺️
Oh that's very good to hear hehe :)
10 times and I haven't been there once, I have no excuses. I'm riveted.
Amazing place and another really helpful video - thanks!
Hi Mads. I dream of photographing locations like Stokksnes. Your videos take us as near as possible to actually being there. Your philosophy is perfect - "the most important thing is to make something that makes you happy." Well, you've certainly created something that makes your viewers very happy !! Many thanks for sharing.
Haha! Thank you very much, Tim - I'm happy I can pass on some of that happiness :)
Stunning photos, Mads! It was really interesting to hear your philosophy on life, photography as art, and your desire for fulfillment and purpose. I can definitely relate to those feelings, and it says a lot about this location that it made you reflect on this.
Thank you very much, Jon! Yes of all the places in Iceland this one brings those thoughts out!
Thank you Mads. You are so right...!!! 👍
Thank you very much :)
Some wonderful images and video.
Great to watch.
love your message at the end of this video!
Awesome video, awesome images and a truly awe inspiring location 📸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, this place is spectacular and you’ve captured the essence of the landscape and especially the essence of your life! Thank you for sharing your life’s travels, well done Sir!
Thank you very much, Steve!
Hello from France ! Can't wait to visit Iceland and your videos make me even more impatient ! Despite me picking up location tips, your videos are really good, a pleasure to watch and what breathtaking views ! Keep doing what you do cause I do love it and it seems I'm not the only one. Take care,
Guillaume
Thank you so much, Guillaume! I'll keep posting :)
Another fantastic video. hope to visit this place this coming Sept. also like ur life philosophy. thanks, matti
Thank you very much, Matti! :)
Mads you are a brave and true fellow!!!! Would love to to carry your gear and learn!
Mads. Thanks to ur posting of this video I visited the location in early Sept. I stayed at the campsite (with the asshole site keeper) and I was lucky to get clear skies and a phenomenal show of aurora burealis the night before walking into the grass location on the beach and shooting the peaks in early clear morning. what a magical location. thanks again for the inspirational tutorials.!
great work again mads 👍
Thank you very much, Craig!
I'm constantly amazed by the quality of videography seen on youtube by photographers who are actually there to do something else, but the production value of yours are something else Mads. The quicker you upgrade to an IMAX camera the better ;-)
Haha! And the quicker I get to show my footage in the planetarium the better! Thanks a lot, Steve! I agree with you ;)
Really enjoyed this video. Absolutely beautiful drone footage and amazing photographs. And some very thoughtful comments. It appears that this scenery inspires to reflect on the priorities of ones life. And your words and visuals show that you have a very special connection to this place. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much, Thomas! I think it really does - if you let it ;)
Excellent drone footage of such a beautiful location and your composition in your shots were very well done. Your thoughts and feelings on photography and what it means to you was refreshing and very well stated,
Thank you very much, Richard! I'm so happy to hear that and that my message came through!
I appreciate your comments on social media and looking at photos. I never go to instagram and seldom follow anyone, regardless of how much I respect them, on social media sites. Too much "me to-ism" ! I go to photographer websites to look at their photos rather and social media. Your photos were great. As Nigel would say "it doesn't get any better than this"
Excellent, Awesome and Outstanding. Thanks for sharing with us.
You're most welcome, Dave and thanks a lot :)
Incredibly beautiful video and the photographs are superb. Thanks very much Mads.
Thank you very much, Peter!
Really lovely/magical vlog and touching words 🤘🏻
Inspiring and epic as usual ! Your drone footage has improved a lot. You have already at your young age an excellent life philisophy. For sure when getting older you will add usefull, meaningfull, essential not only for yourself but also for others. I'm sure you will succed ! 😀
Thank you very much! Yes, and it's about accumulating as much happiness as possible and pass it on!
Great vlog and as always very inspiring
Thank you very much! :)
