- "Ithaca" is an excellent example of the classic Shannon 38. This particular boat has been cruised around the world for many years and built a lifetime of memories for her owners. Shannon 38's have always been built to a very high standard. For instance, the rigging is virtually doubled up to assure that the mast and rig hold strong in all conditions. Shannons were designed to be solid offshore cruisers. In the owner's travels, they made significant improvements and have updated, repaired, and replaced various parts of the boat with high-end equipment and quality products. The repairs reflect the high standards and expectations of the owners. As a result, you will not be disappointed. "Ithaca" was built strong when she was new and has only been improved with her updates.

Hi guys. Your boat is beautiful inside and out. I used to live in NYC and went up to Shannon and met Walter shultz and David walters when they first founded shannon. I think it was 1979 if my memory serves me correct. I was going to buy a 38 and did not and now i wish i had. They are truly well built yachts and are a dying breed. A lot of boats now have no classic lines and down below look likes its IKEA. Good luck selling her and great journeys in your River barge. cheers.
I stumbled across this video a couple of weeks ago. I am falling in love with the boat, the Welch’s story, and the details as told in Waterborne. As a retired USAF pilot (who flew a lot with the Navy too) I am connecting to Capt Michael on many levels, but it’s the beautiful writings of Marguerite that are closing the deal. I’m savoring every word of your book.

Beautiful boat folks. I figure I should learn to sail before I put my grubby paws on such wonderful looking boats first though. It would be a shame to carve a furrow in Terra Firma with a boat like that due to major inexperience.

Beautiful yacht, however just one cabin. Difficult to have friends or family stay the weekend or even invite them for a passage.
