I’m 73 years old. I’m a farmer and been welding since the early 80’s. Just watching your video made my knees shake. We have 5 Merlos and one like that one. We hang a 55” tree spade on it. I couldn’t do a repair job like that in a thousand years. You are the best!
Good show as always. What you do for videos between now and the first week of the new year is your choice but by all means take time with your family and friends; we’ll be here.
Well done Bobby 👍🏼 Smashed it as usual Baz and rightly concerned about the Chinesium threaded rod. Hopefully he takes your advice and replaces that weak spot ASAP.
Brilliant film. Ive got a multifarmer 11 years old. Had to have the internal pads for the triple boom replaced, then 3 months later the two speed gearbox failed. (New box fitted) quite expensive this year!! (Newbury area)
That rod as you know would be Chrome steel very hard but once welded it is brittle so it's up to the owner to decide the options/ But yes Baz and Cal again a good challenge but like you say they are the best; keeps the grey matter working; thanks again {fletch}
Very good job, well done! And I always like to say, you don't encounter problems, only challenges! Hope you have had a good trip back with some good sleep! Drive savely!
Known two other headstocks to shear off the Merlos. They are popular because off the lift capacity more than a JCB or Manitou. Fantastic job you boys did ,learning all the time from your videos
Ben Flanagan here from Easibgwold York! I just wanna say I think this is another fantastic video it’s one of my all-time favourites! Just another real life raw footage of how this complicated fabrication work goes! To the untrained guy this probably looks easy or it probably looks like it’s taken too long but don’t be fooled people this is real life remember that! These things happen this is just another perfect example of diversity when under a tight schedule and pressure! Good work lads! And what a nice bloke you did the job for real nice guy! And he’s paid straight away just what we like! 10/10! ✌️💯💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
There is a big difference between on-site and in a yard. On-site, you are there until it is done, and in a workshop, you can go home and get it finished later. Well done for sticking with it through all the difficulties and overcoming the problems. It is just a bit rough that you need to sleep in the van😢
*Hi Baz , Cal , Dan and the director* 👋 *Firstly* an awesome job on capture and editing ....never has fabrication been so interesting! What seemed like a very *straightforward job* turned into a slightly frustrating one ...but I have to say that happens a lot ... *well in my life anyway* . As per, you stuck it out until it was done and the repair was *far better* than factory ! I do like these *focused* style vlogs but of course I love the varied ones too. Can I wish you all a great weekend ....I hope there is a definitive finish date and time as 2024 has definitely been a year to look back and review and see how far the people , brand and channel have come .... *Big shout out to Bob* too who seems a *decent chap* ....sadly the UK is running short of them Well done all ✅ Gary 🙏🎄🎄🎄
Hi Baz - great bit of work, as usual. Tell Cal to keep practising - he's getting the hang of that welding lark, lol. Love the plant jobs. Merry Christmas & good luck!
Tough old job 😢 always hidden issues on fixing something you never done before. Good experience though and helping others is the best thing Baz 😊 UK welders should network like streamline machine! Finding why the mast failed and engineering problems is the key 🔑
another fantastic episode baz , nice to see someone with such high work ethics , you and cal work like one, merry christmas to to you both and your families all the best for 2025 onwards and upwards
Long days and long nights Baz i've been there and done them and its nice feeling that the job is done and you go home allso knowing that you have a great reputation that backs you up.
I've been looking forward to this since seeing it on Instagram. I can't think of a worse machine than merlo's. we had a head drop off once exactly the same whilst moving some steel. Great video and very informative cheers for the content
Great video Baz and epic shift of a job 👍 100% get your frustration on when a job has issues that your not happy with. I hate to say I’m not sure the angle the headstock went back on the boom was correct (more like a 90 degree ones I’ve known) and maybe why the rod end broke off?
Never seen one do that and i do repairs and manifacture attachments for greenwood hire bigest telehander hire company in uk Thought i had seen it all with what could be smashed to bits Merlo seam to have alot of issues with cold lap and lack of fusion we always have a yard full of smashed headstocks and attachments
Hi Baz I’ve worked as a mechanic on farms for over 30yrs. Farmers are their own worst enemy when it comes to telehandlers. They have a nasty habit of charging into the stock pile with boom extended and push up with them too. Big buckets usually oversized for the machine. Big leverage, boom or Ram bends or snaps as in your case 😂
Difficult job well executed but I do expect your shift would have been illegal again regarding drivers hours on tacho as you've done nearly a 12 hr shift on site and then 10 hrs travelling
Fantastic job/repair carried out great watching either book in Travelodge or transport machine up north simple customer pays & nobody falls a sleep at the wheel, fantastic job by both as always just they are worth more than risk of that on the human body. They are priceless.
That originally looked more like it had been glued to a greasy chip pan rather than welded - for a high stress area, that is very poor. Have to say Baz, your time would be better spent getting jobs like that brought to you in Preston, on a low loader, where you have all the kit and supplies to sort it. Without the travelling, you could do 2 of those in a day and do what you do best. You like to support local businesses, what about letting your transport contacts bring the work to you? To my eyes, a skilled man/team on the road is wasted time, let the hauliers do the travelling because your travelling time will cost a lot more than theirs. 9pm, is too late to be working and that is when mistakes are made. At home, even if you do have a long day, you do sleep in your own bed.

Nothing wrong with a merlo place a used to work has 20-25 of them all done big hours and not had an easy life
Good evening baz n team bloody good show can’t beat it 👍👍👍
Great video Baz and epic shift of a job 👍 100% get your frustration on when a job has issues that your not happy with. I hate to say I’m not sure the angle the headstock went back on the boom was correct (more like a 90 degree ones I’ve known) and maybe why the rod end broke off?
Looking forward to this one!! 👏
That was a proper shift😂
We call that a Tuesday...
Never seen one do that and i do repairs and manifacture attachments for greenwood hire bigest telehander hire company in uk
Thought i had seen it all with what could be smashed to bits
Merlo seam to have alot of issues with cold lap and lack of fusion we always have a yard full of smashed headstocks and attachments

Merry Christmas Baz and all the lads
Love all the videos and all the very best for next year 💪🇬🇧
Years not over yet bud
Ye new rod needed, end won’t fall off though. Good repair on that.
That's just down the road from me.
Hi Baz
I’ve worked as a mechanic on farms for over 30yrs. Farmers are their own worst enemy when it comes to telehandlers. They have a nasty habit of charging into the stock pile with boom extended and push up with them too. Big buckets usually oversized for the machine. This is not a farm, but probably same reason for merlo failure.
@
Hi Phil I should correct my text and say , Operators of Telehandlers in my farming experience are their own worst enemies.
@@stephenjones6247 I’m not disagreeing! I’m a farmer!🙈
Forgot to mention Baz & Cal Cracking repair job. But as you mention very doubtful about the threaded end on the ram holding out. 👍🏻
You’re a handy lad baz 👌
cheers bud
I sure hope you were able to tack this one on to your work at Ashville. Otherwise the cost in terms of time and diesel is enormous.
Cal and you did a great job. The rod end is a tricky one. Good job again and I know the customer is happy. 👍👍
Seen a vid about them going on that weld it’s a known fracture point
interesting
Baz how did u get Iver the thickness difference of the two metals
leave a 2mm gap on the sleeve, plug welded back to the the outer boom.
@welderfabber oh right OK did u nip and do the other job while u down that way or did u leave it and get back home
That mini digger has some serious bypass it looked more of a hindrance than a help
It was needed believe me
Im really enjoying your content Baz and the best of luck with your channel your doing amazing @@welderfabber
@5.14 , oh just make a little drawing
Them wires !!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I just ask what the brand of your overalls are ?????
you are worth your weight in gold
ive never been able to figure out why some companies use the same colour wire for a harness the arm do the same its a pain
I know it's an after thought, but I think replacing that rod should have been done, as I bet it's bent.
defo needed a new 1
Brilliant video baz &cal &director well done💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💓💓💓💓💓💓💕💕💕👊👊👊👊 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
That local guy could have done the job, but he probably asked for more money.
Can't imagine him being more expensive than having two guys do a 10 hour round trip.
Great video, you definitely need a apprentice,he could of went with cal and freed you up for another job.
They already have an apprentice he was probably working in the workshop in Preston 🥴
Cal doesn't have the experience to go alone on a job like this
🤘😎🤘🫖☕️🍪🎥👍👍
Difficult job well executed but I do expect your shift would have been illegal again regarding drivers hours on tacho as you've done nearly a 12 hr shift on site and then 10 hrs travelling

13k for replacement.....
Far too busy but yet the guy is just standing there
Let me guess you work 24/7 365
@ no, never
@@EdwinReyes10 so what’s with your stupid comment then just cause someone flat out busy doesn’t mean they need to work themself into the ground
@ never alluded to that either, I simply mean that if the guy is busy then why isn’t he out working, aren’t his customers priority? I guess not.
@@EdwinReyes10 what a load of nonsense 😂
