  • Non-conventional tips for low-income budgeting.
    In this video, I’m sharing my 7 rules of how not to overspend and still enjoy things that make you happy.
    Currently, I live in my hometown in Russian Siberia. I’m a freelancer without any fixed income, on average, I make from $300 to $500 a month. It took me a while to figure out what financial rules work for me. I’m not into severe restrictions and like to have some freedom in spending.
    Thank you for visiting this channel!
    You can’t imagine how happy and fulfilled I’ll feel if you find my thoughts and ideas somewhat helpful.
    From Siberia with love,
    Ana

    1. Try not to experiment with new products
    2. Earning more doesn't mean spending more
    3. Have several money stashes
    4. Try to find a free version (of software)
    5. Allow yourself little consumerist joys
    6. Don't save money on things that really matter (ex: healthcare or shoes)
    7. DIY whenever you can

    Instant follow. I too am a minimalist with a small income. Your content is a breath of fresh air, not all minimalists are financially privileged.
    Another thing I do, that wealthy minimalist don't, is to keep extras in storage (sensibly, with moderation).
    I am lucky to have an attic to store things in. My home is minimalist, but the three extra sets of bedding or 8 extra plates that I didn't use, I put in the attic.
    Because what I have, will eventually wear out/break, and then I don't have to buy new, but can "shop" in my attic.

    I'm so glad someone is talking about this! It seems like minimalists are always disillusioned by middle class living... but some of us interested in minimalism still struggle to meet our needs sometimes! I thought minimalists were out of new content to create but yours is a breath of fresh air. I love your honesty, instant sub. I grew up fairly poor but more middle classish-poor in comparison to some other contries (I'm from germany and here even poor families have enough imho). I learned to live kinda frugally in my childhood and after earning and spending a lot of money in my twenties I want to come back to the frugal lifestyle for my thirties. Most minimalism channels do the bare minimum in my experience, so I cannot learn from them a lot but I learned smth from you. I struggled with gratification for some time and used shopping for it, became a shopping addict in my twenties, so I don't allow myself to shop much anymore especially not after I finished work. But at the same time I struggle with being a workaholic and denying myself unproductive free time. I will try to use hobby-time as gratification. The amount of books I want to read but never did bc "I have to be productive all the time and reading novels will bring me nowhere" is huge... but taking time for them instead of buying smth as a reward could work for me. Thank you!

    It goes in the DIY section, but cooking from scratch and vegetarian (or mostly vegetarian if you're not one) makes a huge difference. As a student I would never ever buy cookies or anything ready made, I kept that habit.
    The "don't spend more when you earn more" is crucial. When you earn more, save.

    Thank you for your ideas :) For the 'consumerist gratification', I browse online, add everything I want to a wishlist, and then... don't buy them. In a couple of days I forget about it. The 'fun' of shopping for me is discovering all the options, selecting, comparing, imagining etc. I enjoy it just as much with no purchase at the end. In fact, I can enjoy it more because in my wishlist I can pretend-buy anything, regardless of cost or whether I'd actually ever use it. For the DIY, I like to help out my friends and neighbours with any project where they need a hand or I have a useful skill, and then I don't feel embarassed to ask if I need their help too. For instance I'll proof-read someone's dissertation and later they'll help me repaint my flat. It's a really good feeling to help someone and also to know you can rely others if need be.

    Thank you Anna for sharing your tips. I’ve had a drop in income recently, and I really am watching a lot of videos to learn how to be more frugal. Your practical advice is refreshing. Some things I cannot change right now because I have very little money left after I pay my bills. I have a lot of student loan debt, a car note and I have been paying off credit card debt but over the next couple of years, if I can stop wasting money on things I don’t need or enjoy, I will be in much better shape than I am right now. Worst financial mistake I have made is using credit cards. I will never use them again because I can’t trust myself with having lots of credit. It’s too easy to throw something on plastic. Now my motto is “If I can’t pay cash I cannot afford it”. I should have learned this lesson as a young adult not 53 year old woman.

    You are very wise. Good shoes are very important. If you have cheap shoes they do not give the foot the proper support. Without proper support your knees will be out of alignment and give you problems, and your back will also be out of alignment and cause problems. You can get away with bad shoes for a while when you are young, but when you get older you will feel it. Bad back, etc slows down your productivity and hurts a lot.

    about shoes: a lot of people view shoes as vanities but i came across an article a while back that mentioned how important it is to switch between multiple pairs of shoes. good shoes are health investments and go a long ways in protecting your knees, hips, and spine. i realized this when i started working more physical jobs where im on my feet all day. good shoes are always worth the cost.

    Thank you for sharing these helpful hints. I’m not a minimalist, on the contrary I tend to buy too many things. Your channel is so interesting, it has encouraged me to reevaluate my spending habits. Not because I can’t afford what I buy, but because , eventually, your home starts feeling cluttered with the constant influx of new items being brought in. Watching you successfully manage your small income gives a clear example of how satisfying it is to live a mindful, orderly, responsible , uncluttered life. ❤️

    I'm from Mexico and over here the thing are though too. Your channel is much related too our lives in my country since we don't have all the big incomes from other country's and we can't related too other youtubers talking about "minimalism" on a $2,500.00 dlls weekly income lol

    I like the first rule about experimenting. Whenever I look at my budget I never massively overspend in any category. But I do experiment a lot. New ingredients/ foods (now if a recipe has exotic spices and veg for my country I don't try it unless I know I will like it i.e. tried at a restaurant), new styles, games, books and beauty. I have severe eczema and the best products for me are the £1 lotion and wash that have low ingredients. And yet I keep buying stuff. I have no idea how to use up things that don't work for my skin, feels wasteful to throw them away.

    • @anagoldberg
      @anagoldberg  2 роки тому +3

      Oh, I can relate a lot to what you've said! I used to give a lot of skincare away if it was a wrong product for me. It's pretty hard to stop experimenting...

    • @Nina-cd6uw
      @Nina-cd6uw 2 роки тому +6

      I use skincare that I can't use on my face on other body parts. You can get a soft booty or whatever by just using up what doesn't work on your face as bodylotion or foot cream, a bad shampoo as handsoap, horrible makeup as creative painting supply, old clothes as rags or whatever you can make the textiles into. It's actually fun to think about creative ways to use your useless stuff up in a useful way.

    Just found your channel, and I adore the content so far. I've been desiring new minimalist content to remind me why I do it myself. I live below the american poverty line, but this video reminded me I'm still well off. I have free time and I can afford to save. I should remember what a blessing that is. A lot of it is thanks to minimalism. I haven't fully checked out all your videos yet, but if you ever consider posting diy videos, I'd be interested in learning more. You seem like such a sweet person.

    Where I live we are very fortunate to have MANY good Thrift Shops. The idea of re-use suits me well. Most of the things in my home are from Thrift shops. I buy new underwear and personal products. Clothing, furniture, and kitchen stuff is easily bought second hand. I have ways to sell things I no longer need or buy cheaply and that adds to my income.

    People spend so much trying to be minimalist, and it is an all different thing.
