Why I left a good job in Moscow to go back to Siberia | Mindful life choices

  • Did you ever feel social pressure to be a well-settled individual with a good job, full family, and decent ambitions? I did and I hated it. In this video, I’m telling a story of me leaving Moscow to get back to Siberia and my true minimalist self. I had a good job, medical insurance, a big and beautiful city around me with lots of opportunities. But I realized I didn’t fit in that picture.
I’m being as honest as I can, so I hope it will somehow resonate with you.
Thank you for watching, my friends.
    With love from Siberia,
    Ana

Thank you for your honesty. It's a real gem here on the internet, where everything is neatly arranged and mostly fake. Fake people, fake attitudes, fake feelings lead to fake lives. And who on earth wants that. :) I like your life philosophy, so I hope that you'll develop your chanal in that direction. Of course, life in Siberia is an interesting topic to learn and hear about. Greetings from Serbia. 🥰🥰🥰

So glad to have discovered your channel. I am 66 and also a minimalist. I live in New Jersey USA but my grandparents all came from Poland. Seeing the streets where you walked and the snow and the buildings resonated with me so deeply. I wish I were younger so that I could someday visit Siberia. Anyway, I love your sweet, humble, and deep nature. You are a breath of fresh air. I so look forward to seeing more videos from you!

Here is Natalia from Poland:) UA-cam suggested your channel to me and I instantly fell in love with your content and the way you deliver it. I like the way you talk about ilusionary boundaries and still place we live in shaping somehow the way we are. I learned russian at Uni and was lucky to have wonderful teacher teaching us about your wonderful (and quite often similiar to Polish) culture. But the snow and frost you have there in Siberia! Oh! How lucky you are with that! Here in Poland winters are warmer and warmer, not that nice as in the times I was a child… I definitely would give a lot to live surrounded by that frost and snow! Hugs from warm, spring like Poland!

I understand what you are saying, I live in an outer suburb of a city and yearn to live in the country. I have had the well paid job and tried to live up to an ideal, I tried to fit in, but the more I tried I realised I lost myself. Living as far out from the city as I do, I appreciate the simple things in life. I don't want a big house or a fancy car, I am happy with a roof over my head, food on my table and a warm bed to sleep in. My cat, also a black cat, is my constant companion, I am also married but it is a very unconventional relationship, I never had children and now am facing my retirement. I do understand the pressure to fit in and to be socially acceptable, I choose not to do that. I love listening to and watching you, and it is lovely to learn about another part of the world and how alike we all are.

I'm 57 and 2 statements struck a chord in me.... We are basically the same. That is an epiphany. Second (new idea, and you can take full credit for it) Big cities can take over your personality. So can social media (its whole cities in itself). Being off all social media has been the best thing I've done towards becoming more self actualized. I'm not guided by a 👍🏽button. And I hope you never are, either, dear one

It was very emotional for me when you said that problems start when we think we are different while being all the same, humans. When you're surrounded by all kinds of discrimination, it's sometimes hard to hold on that. But that's always a good reminder to let our heart open. Greetings from Belgium

Why is EVERYTHING about discrimination? If you feel different and want to live differently than the norm etc It isn't discrimination that people who do recognize what you, yourself say, you want. To live differently. Just live differently.

    • @panda873
      @panda873 2 роки тому +1

@@pattycake9183 you've clearly never been ostracized or alienated due to your choices. Sometimes being a certain way or choosing a certain lifestyle can result in people treating you poorly or excluding you from their social circles. The takeaway is that despite our differences, whether innate or by choice there is always something that connects us and if people recognized this in a deeper way we'd all be more kind to each other.

I can so relate to this. I'm planning on moving out of the Los Angeles area--13 million people between two counties in Southern California. It's so hard to find quiet or peace unless you are extremely wealthy. Housing prices are out of control. I'm investigating moving to a much smaller city in a cheaper and less populated state. Cities are great for many reasons, but soul sucking in so many ways as well. Thank you for sharing your journey in such a humble way. I really enjoy your channel!

I also live in Los Angeles! Originally I am from Chisinau, Moldova (former Soviet Union). I dream of living in a smaller city, far away from the metropolis that is LA. It is too damn expensive to live here and I find that there are too many distractions here. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will move back to Eastern Europe or Russia, but hopefully will be able to move somewhere else in the United States that will remind me more of life back in Moldova :). Best of luck to you, aldralee!

I lived in a small town until I moved to Bucharest where I worked for 14 years. The best years of my life were given to the big city and what I got in return was sadness and a strong feeling of "not belonging". The city made me angry because I felt I was surrounded by people who did not care about anyone but themselves. Everything was a competition and I wanted out. I left my country 9 years ago to come and live in Ireland where I could embrace the countryside. I don't miss Bucharest at all. I miss some people there, but certainly not the city. I think if I had stayed there longer I would have lost my identity completely. Leaving was the best thing I could have done.

I was born in 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, and was educated there, and earned all my income there by honest work, and taking responsibility for my life, and helping non beggars help themselves. I am back in Mexico, for the safety, beauty, and the cleanliness of Queretaro, Mexico. I do speak Spanish as a second language.
Do what you have to do to survive. Always do you.
Rent and utilities were too expensive, so I had to take my pension and I moved to Mexico
on 11-2-2021. I have been coming to Mexico , since 1962, and beautiful Acapulco is my love, but the earthquakes is why I did not retire there.
At 79, I had to leave the USA due to deadly crimes, high rents and utilities. I am happy in Queretaro, Mexico. Thank you God.

thank you for this video Ana! i am Romanian and living as an immigrant in the USA, since 2011, and in NYC since 2012.
when i moved here in my early 20s i wanted to push myself creatively as a designer and illustrator.
but the truth is that it doesn’t get easier in a big city like NYC; i instead became wiser and tougher but at one point it can feel like a circle!
i think NYC is great as long as you find you inner balance, have friends, and a community along with a better life and work balance. all of which are still hard to manage at the moment.
we move to big cities to achieve certain things, and the scary thing is that after years go by, we start to rethink what is next and changing things again is the hardest
i am happy you feel better in Siberia, i do feel calmer when i am back in Romania, less anxiety caused by a big city, and a foreign country
but i guess it is all a process and i hope to get more clarity soon
good luck with everything and your channel! 😊

This was so comforting! This year, together with my husband, we moved to my hometown from a big city. My hometown is very small and I find myself without a lot of space to have my walks :)). And I also miss some conveniences from the big city and family and friends. I am not far away but with the pandemic it's been very difficult to travel as much. But I am glad we did it. Not always :)), but usually I am. At the end of the day I spend all of my time in my own body and live my own life, so, even though I miss my brother and friends, I had to try this for myself, to have a better relationship with myself. I recently discovered your channel and I am enjoying your videos. When I was young and growing up in Canada I didn't have a lot of things but that didn't concern me at the time. I lived in the country and I had a happy childhood doing simple things like riding my bicycle, playing baseball ,going to the beach, fishing, etc. During that time we only had two channels on TV, so I spent most of my time outside or helping my father who was an autobody repairman. He had a little shop a home and worked in the city. Over time I learned the trade and made enough money to be able to go to university. I recently retired, and I spent most of my working life as a Project Manager in the petrochemical and IT industries. I have nothing to complain about as I was paid reasonably well and I was almost never out of work. My career was quite stressful though with lots of challenges related to working with people and adhering to tight, often unreasonable, deadlines. It's nice to be able to relax and to be free from stress. I definitely don't miss the corporate world and as long as ones needs are met, things aren't so important.

Hi, Anna, wow, you’ve had some journeys in your life… I understand your choice, although I stayed in my big city now for a very long time. I’ve chosen 'the island way', that’s how I call it. Everywhere I create small islands, even in and around a tent. I’ve books of the nature with me, I draw or paint… If I talk about our garden, people think it’s a big one although it’s a tiny one (in a big city!), but with very various plants and small trees (figs and mulberries and a lot of others). I know all the green parts and the wilder parts around, plucking wild flowers and herbs. And I meet (or attract?) like minded people everywhere… We take seeds with us all the time and there are some islands around, we know we’ve planted them… My husband even adopted the wild middle of a roundabout and shared a lot of plants of our garden, installed some wooden signs, on which he wishes everybody a safe drive… meanwhile he got some support from a big hardware store. I guide interested people in the surrounding, where I teach them to find green places, put trash where it belongs, pick wild herbs, take a good 'forest bath' and show my books about all that, show how to bake healthy bread (we’ve a little mill) and if you ever come to our town, you’ll be disappointed at first: an ugly industrial town. With a lot of 'islands' from people like us. Good luck in Siberia! Share more about your life. One of my best painting friends is from Siberia, she told me a lot about it. Love from Germany, Monika❣

Monika, what a wonderful and meaningful life you've just described 🌸 Can't even express how happy I am to meet you here. I wish I would be able to have a life in the future that somehow resembles this beautiful "island" type of yours. And I'm sure my husband when he reads this comment, will agree 100% 😊 Wishing you even more like-minded and kind-hearted people around in your big city ❤️ And cheers to your Siberian friend!

@@anagoldberg Hi, Anna, I’m glad to meet you, too! Couldn’t sleep well, some tooth issues… but everything seems to have a purpose. Although I’m so far no minimalist (you should see my mountains of books and wool and painting and cooking stuff🙄), I love the idea. I’m already following 'minimal Russian girl' , a very sweet and young minimalist. I like to know people of all ages and to understand their points and reasons for their decisions.

You have discovered what it took me years to learn. Most of us thrive the best in a limited set of circumstances, and our real task is to find out which ones fit us best. Big city v. small town v. suburb, married v. single, parent v. childless, and a host of other traits and preferences we all have. It doesn't matter what is best for someone else, if its not right for you, and all the choices are equally valuable. I myself live in a big city, but I live a rather quiet, uncluttered and contemplative life. I already did all the "cool" city stuff, and now I avoid going out. Works for me! All the best from California.

Hi Ana, I'm 24 year old, just graduated from a college and got a job in, what I consider, a big city.
I belong to a very small and remote part of my state, it's all desert, and there's not much around here, no big hospital, there are no colleges around here. After I completed my "Education-from-home" and got a job which provided an offer to "work-from-home", now I'm expected to work from office, for that, I'll have to go to that big city.
Watching your video was, in a really odd way, was relatable. I don't want to lose myself in the city lights, I don't want to constantly running towards what I might want to become next, endlessly.
I didn't grew up with a silver spoon, I wasn't exactly very poor, but I know how to live without spending on the things you don't NEED. I love this side of my upbringing and I'm terrified of the fact, that when I'll start living between the people, who might not see the world as I see it, will change me?
By the way, I'd love to see more of Siberia and your experience in life, I'm really enjoying you content ❤️

Hey, my friend! I completely understand your worries. And of course, moving to a big city is always a challenge. I had quite a hard time, esp during my first year. But try to keep in mind that a bigger city have also a bigger amount of people who are like your wonderful self. I'm sure you will find them, or they will find you:) Anyway, it's a great experience, a journey full of discoveries. And who knows what you'll understand about yourself... Sometimes I think that Moscow was a well-needed step towards finding my real self. Or at least it was just a great starting point:) Wishing you all the luck on your way! 🤗And thank you so much for your sweet comment🌿

Such a beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing your profound, deep understanding of what truly matters. When you said "It is the love of the life we are given, not the one that is advertised or promoted by the society" i felt a deep connection with that. I wrote it down because it is what i have come to understand for myself as well, but the way you said it was so beautiful and true, so I will keep it as a reminder. In the past, I thought I should be more ambitious, but in truth that was not me and once i accepted myself without condition as I am, it was the best feeling in the world and continues to be. This was beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.
It almost sounds like my own life (!)
Big cities do suck something out of our humanity. Its very subtle and its very difficult to realize what's going on.
Plus when one tries the minimalist path (and a more mindful path), one often encounters doubts (sometimes triggered by comments from friends, acquaintances, etc) about whether one is doing the right thing. One has to stay true to one's nature ... and I realized quite late in life that I was perhaps always a minimalist at heart form the beginning.
I've also found that minimalism instills a sense of depth and clarity (at-least in me). All I used to do earlier (goaded on by various ideas and concepts regarding success, the good life etc that I had formed) seems so superficial and superfluous now.
We actually need so less to survive and thrive, it's just amazing.
