    Thank you for the share. I am seven days post fusion. I had a bulging disc at L3-L4. I had ruptured both my L4-L5 and L5-S1. I had a cyst on my L3-L4. I also had a 5mm misalignment between my L5 and S1. The original discussion with the surgeon was titanium pins between my L5 and S1 to correct for the spondylithesis, spacers to correct for that same collapsed disc, a biopsy of the cyst and a discectomy of the ruptured and bulging discs to clean everything up. Woke up from surgery to a full bar and screw fusion from L3 to S1. I was very active prior to this. Doing Indian Runs while rucking a 30# pack is what did most of the damage.
    We'll see how recovery goes. I have been up and walking since the day after surgery. I hope to be off of my walker within the next week. Pain is pretty well managed, but there are some off days. I still have a long way to go, but best of luck and healing to all of us on here.

      @@maheswarc128 Certainly. First a correction, I had a PLIF L2 - L5. S1 remains unfused. Cyst was benign. So I am 10 weeks post surgery as I type this. I was off my walker 2 weeks after surgery. I tapered off of my pain and nerve medication (Robaxin, Tylenol and Gabapentin) about 3 weeks ago. I have also been in PT for the past 3 weeks. I have not had any measurable pain in the past 4 to 6 weeks. I get sore if I do to much, there is a noticeable strength imbalance between my right and left legs (right is much weaker). I know this nerve recovery and not atrophy. I get tired pretty easily for now.
      With all of that said, I have been very fortunate with how my injury went, my surgery and my recovery. I have little to no pain, my strength and flexibility are returning as work through PT and the X-Rays show the hardware is holding together. My final follow up with the surgeon has been moved up from May to March, as I am recover quicker than expected.
      Something for everyone on here and / or going through this, keep your head up and talk to someone. I am a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, but the depression related to this is something else. Take care of yourself.

    Had L4-L5 fusion on 1/6/22...My pain that I was having before the surgery is completely gone. Walking a mile 2- times a day since 1/20. Only pain is from the hardware they placed in my back. Had what they call an OLIF procedure. Oblique Lateral Intervertebral Fusion. Went in through my left oblique to remove the disc and then two 3 inch incisions in lower back to place the 2 pedicle rods and 4 screws. Should be back to light weight training in 6 weeks. One more question. How did you overcome the pain after 3 years of suffering. I’m really thinking about the fusion but really scared. And lifting all that weight doesn’t worry about the adjacent segment disease? I’m really sorry to keep bothering you, it’s just seeing someone overcome really gives me hope. I hurt myself deadlifting too.

    • @fusiongains
      @fusiongains  3 роки тому

      @@briankim75 no worries at all. Honestly, I just dealt with it. It was a different level of pain each day. Some days it hurt a lot more, some days less. So on the days it hurt more, I just took it a little easier and did what I could. Sadly all you can do is just push through the pain at that point. It’s a different pain than what you’re going through now. For me, I was still able to get on with my life. Whereas before the fusion, I had days where I couldn’t do anything at all. And now structurally, there’s nothing to worry about so I don’t even think about it. After fusion, there is risk that you can herniate a disc above or below the fusion. I had a different experience. I had L4 and L5 (I think...) Lower back fusion and didn't get the back brace, and was quite shocked they wanted me out of the hospital in 2 days. I got a walking cane, and shouldn't keep the full 4 leg walker thing I had in the hospital. I walked daily, and recovered well by the first 3 weeks and after 3 months I ran a spartan beast race which is around 15K or something. Felt great, and this fusion was about 10 years ago. 10 years later, I have lower back pains again, but not as crippling as they were before. I've since made changes to development my core muscles and stay away from things like deadlifting and keep my heavy lifting to things like chest and arms. I think the difference with you could have been multiple things, everything from the doctor who did it to your surgery to your overall body physics and to the fact that you lift a LOT heavier than I have have. I've always been around a bench max of about 265, and all other muscle groups are about average like that. YOU are able to lift heavy as fuck which I think may not be good before or after a fusion. hey, thanks for watching and replying. I'm not familiar with a pain stimulator. I've read a little about it, but I don't really know too much. It sounds like the success rate isn't super high. But it's a lot less to recover from than a fusion. If your doctor thinks it's something that can help you long term, with minimal side effects, I'd try that before fusion. Sounds like you've been through a lot. While I'm ok several years after fusion, not everyone gets better. My mom was in constant pain for over a decade after having fusion. But she also wasn't active. As painful as it is, being active is the best thing for your back.

      @@fusiongains cutting through all those back muscles sucks, but my doctor told me that if you do ALIF lifting heavy would be more likely to cause a hernia

    This is a horrible idea. The spine is immoblile when fused and weight directly on the spine compresses it in a way that when the spine compromised you will quicken degeneration of the other disks. never back squat. Deaslifts are deadly over time. So many others ways. Look at how healthy your spine still is!!! Just not worth it ✌️🙏

      Never back squat? Deadlifts are deadly? I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are. Maybe it's not worth it for you, and that's totally fine. I recently deadlifted 540lb, at age 40. It's been a decade since fusion. I think I'm doing ok.

    No matter how strong or athletic you are, the human body is not supposed to lift such heavy weights. If you always push/lift yourself to the limits, your discs will be damaged. It's not worth to ruin your health and ability to do a regular job. Ronnie Coleman is the worst example.

      I disagree with your opinion. And the Ronnie Coleman example is a bad one. He had a doctor that botched a surgery, then continued doing more surgeries on him to continue getting paid.

      @@fusiongains The problem is that you already had a microdisectomy and spinal fusion in your 30s and ´the question is what comes next in an expected life span of 70-80 years. It brings nothing if you can lift three time your body weight and end up crippled in chronic pain. A natural athlet like you would´ve never had to deal with back issues if you would`ve trained with normal weights; instead lifting like an ant to set up personal records. I guess Ronnie Coleman is a sad example of a "gym rat" who couldn´t take a step back after serious back injuries / surgeries. The problem is, the more painless you get, the more careless you become. Take care of yourself and your back, you only have one life / health to live.
