Deadling After SPINAL FUSION SURGERY
Just bought two pairs of these. One pair for my woman as a Christmas gift. I love the looks of them and looking forward to working out in them to have a better idea about how they feel. I have two pairs of UA Reign 6 as well (lol ya I'm a sneakerhead) and I love those. I don't know if you heard of a Canadian brand called TOPO Athletics (got a couple pairs of those as well lol ) They're more for the great outdoors but they also make a zero drop training shoe and I'm interested in trying those. Thank you for your honest opinion and review !!
@@gumbyrotten thanks for the comment and I’m glad you liked the review. I haven’t heard of TOPO, but I’m also not familiar with most outdoor type of shoes.
I had my l1 -5 fused and all of the disc had to be removed aswell and they put cages In. In place of the disc I’m 24 I have a degenerative disease. What’s worse is I’ve been a big bench presser for a few years a I compete in professional arm wrestling. The surgery has been very demoralizing and I really feel like I’m going to have to give up a lot and I’m fighting to figure out what I’ll be able to do after I fully heal I’m 4 months out good luck to every one that has had it done
Я бы не стал этого делать
How long did it take you after surgery to get back to the gym?
About 6 weeks and started very light and easy and built my way back up
@fusiongains on week 4 tomorrow I see surgern hope he will lift some restrictions
Great job man. Don't forget about safety's tho
Wow
We have same feet and comments on other shoes due to wide and flat feet. What other shoes do you use? And do you use versalifts on your nanos as well?
Right now I'm using the Tyr CXT2 most of the time. They take about a week to break in, but they're great after broken in. I might do a review on those. I also just ordered the CXT2 Elite. Before these, I was using the Born Primitives or the Nano X4. I did not use the versa lifts in Nanos.
@@fusiongains just the normal ones or the wide version for the cxt 2's?
@@Bryan.Adlawan I went normal width.
This is a horrible idea. The spine is immoblile when fused and weight directly on the spine compresses it in a way that when the spine compromised you will quicken degeneration of the other disks. never back squat. Deaslifts are deadly over time. So many others ways. Look at how healthy your spine still is!!! Just not worth it ✌️🙏
Never back squat? Deadlifts are deadly? I can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are. Maybe it's not worth it for you, and that's totally fine. I recently deadlifted 540lb, at age 40. It's been a decade since fusion. I think I'm doing ok.
What is the point of learning a cheat to do MORE reps. You want to Disadvantage yourself to increase the challange. Wtf is the point of making it easier? Unless youre in a "how many goofy ass pullups can I do" competition, whats the point But hey you do you mr butterfly man
You missed the entire point, but thats ok. I can do over 20 strict pullups in a row. I can do a 135lb weighted strict pullup. It's not a matter of doing them instead of strict pullups. There's a place for both. Kipping and butterfly pullups aren't easier. You to have the strength and the technique to do them. I do. So the point is to finish a set of pullups faster, especially if you're doing a workout against the clock.

Holy crap nice! I'm trying to get just like you man keep it up!
@@Nothere007 thanks! I’ll be posting more stuff on here. It’s usually just been on IG.
Those boxes just begging to hold that whiteboard, and perhaps a cup of water 🥤!
Had a bottle near the rig, didn’t need it though.
Very inspiring vid! How long after microdiscectomy did you start working out and how gradual was it? Did you fully recover from that procedure or did you go at it too soon causing the second issue?
I think I was back to full activity 6 weeks after the microdiscectomy. I was great for 6 months. Then one day I felt a weird pull in my back while warming up back squats. It wasn't even a heavy weight. Then a few weeks later, I sneezed in my car and couldn't walk for 2 weeks. That led to the fusion.
It's like the New Balance Prevail and Reebok Nano 2.0 had a love baby
Absolutely amazing are you taking any Tes replacement therapy for recovery bc I’m looking into that since my rehab has been slow, out of the gym for 10 months so far it’s messing me up mentally but I heard that TRT might help with my recovery just wanted your opinion. Thanks for the content brother
I'm not opposed to taking TRT, especially now that I'm 40. I think if your levels are low and you're feeling the symptoms of that, it can be a good option to explore. Not that I'm a high level CrossFit athlete because I'm not, but CrossFit does drug test. So that's a consideration too. Go talk to a doctor about it. You may have to find one of those wellness clinics or a place online, because most regular doctors don't have a clue about testosterone and just think you're asking for steroids.
Yeah dude how's the back I will need L5S1 doing soon ish
The back is great. I'll be making a follow up video soon.
Now how you feel after surgery?
I feel good! I'll be making a follow up video soon.
hi bro. I’m from Chile, South America and I’m interested in following mayhem planning in Spanish. I wanted to ask you about your experience following this plan in the sense that, like you, I train at home and I don't have some implements (for example a climbing rope). From already thank you very much
Hey buddy, I say try it out. I think you can get a free week. You can always substitute things for any equipment or space your don't have. Like any type of walking lunges, I would do 8 alternating lunges in place for every 25'. For rope climbs I did some other form of strict pulling. You can make it work. With that said, I haven't been doing their programming for a while now. I just haven't like it since after last year's semifinals. Seemed like someone else started programming and it's been not as good.
I put your message in google translate, so I hope I got it right. Sorry to hear about your accident. My surgery was lower back, so I'm not sure on recovery for your neck. The best advice I can give is to give it time. After 1 month, I still wasn't doing very much. But after the 6 week mark I was able to start exercising lightly. Then every month I was able to do more and more. Give it time, work on strenghtening the muscles around it (neck, traps, upper back) and then hopefully you can get back to all your normal activity. Good luck.
Grazie mille buona fortuna anche a te
He looks like Dan Bailey a little bit
Yep, I’ve gotten that over the years.
Thank you for the share. I am seven days post fusion. I had a bulging disc at L3-L4. I had ruptured both my L4-L5 and L5-S1. I had a cyst on my L3-L4. I also had a 5mm misalignment between my L5 and S1. The original discussion with the surgeon was titanium pins between my L5 and S1 to correct for the spondylithesis, spacers to correct for that same collapsed disc, a biopsy of the cyst and a discectomy of the ruptured and bulging discs to clean everything up. Woke up from surgery to a full bar and screw fusion from L3 to S1. I was very active prior to this. Doing Indian Runs while rucking a 30# pack is what did most of the damage. We'll see how recovery goes. I have been up and walking since the day after surgery. I hope to be off of my walker within the next week. Pain is pretty well managed, but there are some off days. I still have a long way to go, but best of luck and healing to all of us on here.
Wow, that's a pretty big procedure. Good luck on the recovery. Keep moving, the more you move, the better you'll feel. Manage it day by day. You'll have good days, you'll have bad days. Just keep your head up and keep moving forward.
Thanks@@SweatyNindroid . Yeah, I did a fair amount of research on this prior to the surgery. Motion is Lotion.
@@jasonshaffner5652 sweatynindroid is my son’s account… I guess I was logged in when I commented 🤣
Bro. Can you share your current recovery status?
@@maheswarc128 Certainly. First a correction, I had a PLIF L2 - L5. S1 remains unfused. Cyst was benign. So I am 10 weeks post surgery as I type this. I was off my walker 2 weeks after surgery. I tapered off of my pain and nerve medication (Robaxin, Tylenol and Gabapentin) about 3 weeks ago. I have also been in PT for the past 3 weeks. I have not had any measurable pain in the past 4 to 6 weeks. I get sore if I do to much, there is a noticeable strength imbalance between my right and left legs (right is much weaker). I know this nerve recovery and not atrophy. I get tired pretty easily for now. With all of that said, I have been very fortunate with how my injury went, my surgery and my recovery. I have little to no pain, my strength and flexibility are returning as work through PT and the X-Rays show the hardware is holding together. My final follow up with the surgeon has been moved up from May to March, as I am recover quicker than expected. Something for everyone on here and / or going through this, keep your head up and talk to someone. I am a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, but the depression related to this is something else. Take care of yourself.

I went to order these and they were sold out. 😢 but they remind me of the tribase reign 4
Keep checking, I think they restock fairly often. They’re great shoes. I haven’t tried the tribase because I’ve been told they’re narrow, and that won’t work for my feet. These aren’t narrow anywhere on the foot.
@@fusiongains they are a bit narrow but much wider than Nike. I compare them to the nano x on width.
There was no choice on my end, the vertebrae was cutting into my spinal cord heavy and hard, could have paralyzed myself in my sleep just twisting the wrong way. Every day gets a little better.
Wow, glad it’s getting better for you.
@@fusiongains Nowhere to go but up! I'm chasing that dead-lift too. I wasn't in the 400 club. But I will be. Mark my words. I will be.
@@TheChaney that’s right. Keep pushing.
Thanks for posting. I’m considering getting fusion surgery. How long after surgery could you have sex?
probably as soon as the drugs wore off lol. But really, I don't remember. I don't think it was very long after. Problem is you have to be in a back brace for the first several weeks, and that's very uncomfortable. Also for the first little while, your partner will have to do all the work.
@@fusiongains thanks man
No matter how strong or athletic you are, the human body is not supposed to lift such heavy weights. If you always push/lift yourself to the limits, your discs will be damaged. It's not worth to ruin your health and ability to do a regular job. Ronnie Coleman is the worst example.
I disagree with your opinion. And the Ronnie Coleman example is a bad one. He had a doctor that botched a surgery, then continued doing more surgeries on him to continue getting paid.
@@fusiongains The problem is that you already had a microdisectomy and spinal fusion in your 30s and ´the question is what comes next in an expected life span of 70-80 years. It brings nothing if you can lift three time your body weight and end up crippled in chronic pain. A natural athlet like you would´ve never had to deal with back issues if you would`ve trained with normal weights; instead lifting like an ant to set up personal records. I guess Ronnie Coleman is a sad example of a "gym rat" who couldn´t take a step back after serious back injuries / surgeries. The problem is, the more painless you get, the more careless you become. Take care of yourself and your back, you only have one life / health to live.
Perfect workout after that heavy surgery❤ keep the nice work
Thanks!
So what happened? Did you reach 500?
Yeah, I hit 505 a few times, and then 525 earlier this year.
Good hard work in your journey Sir
Thank you!
Yeahhhhh, Marat, what a great surprise seeing you pop up in my feed! Way to get after, brother - keep doing great things, I'm SUPER happy for you! 🤘😎🏋🏼♂️

Ok… I have to look at where u finished the first time… you were totally pacing this time around… and I have no clue if it helped overall. I hope it did!!
Ok I think you got 3 reps into the set of 6 FS, and the first attempt was you only got 5 reps into the round of 8 FS. THANK GOODNESS it paid off!! Why do we love this paaaiiinnn??? lol!! Good shizz!!
Hoping that was more fun than it looked. Solid performance.
Thanks! Fun was had, in a punishing way
Duuuude!! Good stuff!! Did this today and have to redo. It was way more painful than I expected- and I did the modified/scaled weight/movements. Wow. It was humbling. Kept thinking about the RX ppl. Yikes! I say- definitely do not re do this one! lol. The front squat one, sure… maybe. 🤣
The second round of this one messed me up! I think the tall box jumps got me. Heart rate was spiked and couldn’t get it under control.
@@fusiongains Dude yes!! I saw that!! I was like… his box jumps are my painful slow jumping pull ups. Our speed was very similar for those movements. My step overs were your c2b. You killed those! Great big sets!
I have a spinal fusion question. Would you say it was your fitness that has you living a relatively normal life. I ask because there are some horror storys about fusions and i may need a L5-S1 fusion myself.
Hey, thanks for commenting. There’s no way to know for sure, but I definitely think that has a big part to do with it. My surgeon didn’t even send me to PT because he was confident I’d work on it myself, which I did. I’ve also head horror stories. Unfortunately, my mom was one of them. Her surgery was botched and she was in the pain for years until she passed. Now she had a really shitty surgeon, so definitely do your research if that’s the path you end up taking. Happy to answer any other questions you have.
@fusiongains man that gives me some hope. I am a CF-L1 and I train motocross athletes. I herniated my disc in 2016 in a horseback accident. I am willing to give up racing moto and really scale back my training. I just don't want to be a statistic. My L5-S1 herniated during a sneeze after my horseback fall. I currently re injured it training and riding motocross for sure. So I am a little scared. My neurosurgeon is said to be the best in our area and is highly sought after. I have an MRI tomorrow so we will see.
@@reload7344 there’s definitely hope. My final straw for my back was also a sneeze. I had to crawl into my house and couldn’t stand for a week.
@@fusiongains can I keep you posted.
You are a mad man! Please brother, be careful
Please don’t attempt 500 anymore.
Solid bro!
1 and a half year after l4 l5 s1 spinal fusion, I started out 3 months after my surgery with calisthenics, built my way back to my upper body weights, dumbbell bench press 60kgs, but started to deadlift and squat a week ago. The deadlifts make me feel great but squats are making me feel some pain. If anyone out there has done the l4 l5 s1 fusion, let me know your input and feedback and what's your training routine
I think u should replace squat with hack squat machine or bulgarian split squat as it reduces pressure on your spine. As for deadlift u should go with dumbbell rdl 😅
Im having a condition called isthmic spondylolisthesis and maybe in time i'll need a fusion like u did. To hear that u had back pain for 3 years post op kind of freak me out. I love working out and i hope that i will still be able to do that after the surgery but this time im giving up on the deadlift and squat
I didn’t have to give up squatting and deadlifting. I’m fact, I squat and deadlift heavier now than I ever did before fusion. Yes I had pain for 3 years…. But it was varying degrees of pain, and it was rare for it to stop me from doing things. I’m also stubborn and don’t rest when maybe I should sometimes.
@@fusiongains glad to hear from you. Thanks for the info.
how are you doing now @@fusiongains
So after spinal fusion you can deadlift 405lbs without pain? My hero, an inspiration!
Up to 525 now. No pain.
Dude, this is not heroic. I am sure your gonna hurt your back again. At least stop squat and deadlifts. Be proactive for your health.
@@engabdosalah3278 I might be using hero loosely. I was just told I need 4 levels fused and long-term restriction is no lifting over 20lbs. This kid is up to 505lbs without pain. Yes is he putting the adjacent levels under lots of stress.
@@engabdosalah3278I totally agree, if you once have injured your back or already had a surgery it's always coming back, especially if you put to much pressure on your spine with deadlifts and squads.
Trueee Inspiration!!! 🥺🥺🤩 What was your spinal fusion??? I Have T4L5 fusion in 4 months im quite scared because i really love sport and gym
I had L5/S1. Work on your recovery. Movement is king. Do what you can, and continue to push. Recovery will be hard... but you can come out better on the other side. Good luck.
Are there now increased danger of further injury?
Not to the area I had fused. I was warned that there is risk of herniation at different levels, but I haven't experienced anything like that.
@FusionGains thank you. I recently started lifting again but my fusion was 10 years ago.
@@dannyatkinson3744 good luck!
@@fusiongains thanks again for this video
Good for you bro. Really. It's nice to hear a good story
Thank you!
I had a different experience. I had L4 and L5 (I think...) Lower back fusion and didn't get the back brace, and was quite shocked they wanted me out of the hospital in 2 days. I got a walking cane, and shouldn't keep the full 4 leg walker thing I had in the hospital. I walked daily, and recovered well by the first 3 weeks and after 3 months I ran a spartan beast race which is around 15K or something. Felt great, and this fusion was about 10 years ago. 10 years later, I have lower back pains again, but not as crippling as they were before. I've since made changes to development my core muscles and stay away from things like deadlifting and keep my heavy lifting to things like chest and arms. I think the difference with you could have been multiple things, everything from the doctor who did it to your surgery to your overall body physics and to the fact that you lift a LOT heavier than I have have. I've always been around a bench max of about 265, and all other muscle groups are about average like that. YOU are able to lift heavy as fuck which I think may not be good before or after a fusion. Just my take 😊
Do you still live in Jersey? cause I live in jersey and have a great physical therapist and would love to meet you and possibly have you be my trainer. it would be nice to have someone know exactly what im going through. I dont wanna dead lift heavy but I can def dead, lift around 300. but I need the confidence that im doing the form right to be able to do it at home as I create my own gym.
I don’t live in jersey anymore. We moved to Georgia last summer and I opened a gym down here.
I had my L5-S1 surgery 45 days back , my back pain is completely gone but still have pain on my leg palm. But things are getting better.
How r u feeling now? Is your leg pain gone completely?
@@jyeshtanaresh6224 It is almost gone with workouts and physiotherapy. Being consistant with the diet and physiotherapy is the key.
Bro please reply. I had spinal fusion l5s1 2 years ago. I’m in pain everyday and still have a numb left leg and left calf won’t grow at all, now mostly shooting pain from sciatica, cramps in left legs (bun cheek, hamstring and calf’s seize up) I’m training “lightly” considering. I go hard on some things I know won’t put pressure on my spine cause I will feel it the next day. I was thinking of starting deadlifts again to gain side and thickness as it’s obviously one of the best exercises for it. Any recommendations and tips? Love this content.
Sorry to hear you’re still in pain. I started on trap bar deadlifts. I didn’t deadlift on a straight bar for 3 years after surgery. If you’re having that much pain and numbness, you should see your doctor. Or go to another doctor to hear a different opinion. I had pain, but no numbness or sciatica pain afterwards.
@@fusiongains yeah I am booked in soon the get radiation ablation therapy or something like that where they will burn the nerves to stop the pain. The nerves recreated themselves in different spots (think it was called chronic nerve regeneration) which gave me numbness and also hypersensitivity.
@@ZionEscapes ouch. Hopefully that helps and you can move forward.
@@fusiongains thanks mate. Loving your videos just subscribed will keep up to date. Good to see your going well.

After the fusion a recurrent issue I have is my pelvis shoots out of line and tilts to one side meaning I have to constantly visit a chiropractor
That’s awesome that you were able to get to that level of strength! I only deadlifted on the hex/trap bar for the first 3 years after fusion. Then I transitioned to a straight bar and started very light. But nothing says you HAVE TO deadlift. Just listen to your body.
What spinal fusion did you do? I will do spinal fusion for T4/L5
