This is almost exactly what I have been enduring for more than a year now. I have severe Grade 2-3 spondylolisthesis ( or spinal slippage, I think). I was in a car accident months ago, in which a pars defect in my back gave way and shattered. There are floating bits of my spine in my back, essentially. I cannot move, sit, bend, lay, even SLEEPING, I am plagued with pain and aches in my very dreams. I am unable to work or drive, I am slipping into a maddening loop of depression and grief, and there seems to be no way out. I have been advised to get a surgery, but, like you, I am only 22. I’m scared of needing another fusion, then another and another until I am fused completely. I’ve been enduring this horrible pain for more than a year now, and during these past 5 months, it has been unbearable and constant. I don’t want to fuse my spine, but I see no way out. If you have any updates on your condition and quality of life, I would be beyond grateful. I haven’t seen a lot of good news whenever I look things up, and my research is halting and full of anxious tears at best. I hope you’re doing well, and again, if you have any sort of update concerning your condition and surgery, I would be so, so grateful.
Thanks for sharing Your story. It really is hard to find opinions like this theese days. I'm 36 and suffering simillar sympthoms and chronic pain for over five years now. The worst thing is the luck of understanding from People around, because on first Look, when you walk you act like healthy person, but than again you have trouble making your bed. I think only People with this desease actually realise how many Times a day you have to bend, because the pain is always there tonremaind you. Constant pain is poisoning me, it dewelopes kind of depression. I'm keeping my finger crossed for Your proper recovery and going back to life without pain. Thanks again!
100 percent. Not only is the pain a constant heavy weight reminder, but it’s knowing that you literally can’t do much of anything without completely disrupting it. The extreme limitation that it puts on a person is life destroying. Any possible way to heal in one fashion or another would be a life healer. More personal feedback on those going through it needs to be documented. So channels like this is crucial and beneficial. True back pain and the development of back pain needs to be taught more. Spinal hygiene is a real thing.
I have only found a couple videos on your adventure. I was looking for info and started getting all the info I could. This one is before your surgery. I wish there was a better way to track videos on here. I had the same surgery on 04/21/2023 so it was well after yours. I'm 3 weeks out and keep hoping for magic to happen. No magic. I had this because of a totally botched 4 level posterior fusion 15 months earlier. Not much could be done at that time. too early to remove the 10 screws and rods. Caution to everyone, be sure of who does the procedure as i learned I made that mistake. Hope you are doing great! :)
Thank you for sharing I'm having this done in October and I'm nervous they told me my recovery will be a year and with 4 kids at home this is going to be a challenge but thankfully I have help
Can’t thank you so very much for all your videos. I have looked at I have my L 4/5 S1 fusion as spondylitis pars fracture also. Had fall on Esclator 1 year ago movement on escalator causing me to fall I have C 5,6,7 cervical bone spurs. Won’t have at done T section fractures T 9,10, 11. Yes disc dease. At lower level. Take care your mum and dad are very lucky to have a very good girl That where we are lucky with the daughters now married in Uk but we are from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for sharing. My 14 yr daughter is having surgery L5 /L1 this month her surgeon said she will need two rods . She fractured her back at age 10 during PE she also didn’t think much of it and continue doing PE with pain unfortunately hurting her back more . She has been in pain all this time but this year it got worse. That she missed a lot of school. She’s really nervous and came across your video and sent it to me . Thank you for posting this .
Hi Jennae. I will be going through ALIF for L4-L5 & L5-S1 disc replacement...platinum wedges and screws...within a week. From everything I have researched, much better option than going through the back. Have been looking at various UA-camrs who have gone through ALIF, but yours has been the most informing. I hope everything has gone well for you. I am 73, retired military and in pretty good shape with daily biking, few hundred situps/crunches, and 100 pushups. And most importantly minimal belly/abdominal fat which pleased my cardiovascular surgeon who will be doing the incision and moving my innards around. Lots of preplanning and fortunately we have a sleep number bed where I can raise both my head and knees. Fingers crossed. Thank you for sharing your journey. And have only seen your video from 1 month post op. Any more? Thank you again.
Surgery went a lot quicker than anticipated. Like yours, little over 2 hours vice 4 hours. Pain around the incision is the killer. The pain at my left hip and down my leg is gone. Good sign. Talked to the physical therapist and she was encouraging regarding BLT. She said as long as you don't over do it. But, absolutely no pain in my lower back. Walked about half mile yesterday and do a lot of walking inside the house. Other than that, hanging in there. Thanks for your posts...they have been very helpful.
I look forward to following your journey. I’m a bit older, 31, but similar in my current state. Athletic, L5S1 DDD, and looking at either artificial disc replacement, or ALIF. With a pars fracture an ALIF is your best bet to regain the stability lost there. I hope everything goes smoothly and you have the results you want!
Thank you for your comment! I hope my journey will be helpful to you, and if you have any questions for me please don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you all the best in your recovery as well!
Love your suggestions for needed tools. Going in for my 3rd back surgery 10/5/23. 24 years of picking up heavy boxes at the Brown delivery company. 2 previous discectomy surgeries got me painfully through 12 years. Looking forward to some relief from the pain.
Hello friend. Me too work in Brown. 29 years loading. Unloading . Driving. Feel discectomy now they talking fusion. My career it's over . How are you feeling now??
Add me to the big Brown list as well. I was in package for 16 years then feeder for around 11 years. How are you doing with your back now, you get any surgeries done yet?
Best of luck to you! So far, it has been a good choice for me and I'm glad I went with the ALIF approach. The first two weeks or so were not easy, but after that things have been looking up!
Very helpful for me anticipating spinal surgery for gr 1 spondylolisthesis & 3 bulg discs with stenosis, which may be somewhat similar but not same & im much older :((
I’ve watched your videos several times (okay, a lot of times) and found them really helpful. I am post-op day11 after ALIF surgery. Seems to be going well, but I was wondering if you can give me any current updates since your video said 3 years ago. I would appreciate it so much!
Any updates, how are you now dear.... I also have to do ALIF surgery. i'm so scared. please give me your experience after your surgery results in currently
Why didn't you have a single level LTDR? Lumbar total/artificial disc replacement? You're very young for fusion unless there is a major spine deficiency like spondylolisthesis.
Thank you so much for sharing your story Jaenna. I appreciate and hope God gives you a pain-free life. I am going to have the ALIF Surgery soon. I live alone and will have a friend to help me out for 1 week. Do you think that’s enough or should I get someone to help me for a longer period of time? If so, how long do you think I may need someone to live with me after the surgery to help me with chores and everything else? Thank you.
What is your recovery like now? Are you back to full functioning? When you initially hurt your back was the pain chronic in the sense that it was constant for years or did you experience relief with flare ups? Thanks!
You said that the bones could have healed? I mean the fracture in the pars. I have the same condition at L5-S1 pars fracture grade 1 spondy. Pain is manageable for now but I am curious to know if your surgeon said that the pars fracture would heal cause my surgeon said it cannot be cured.
I have spondylosis, spondolisthesis, a bilateral para defect, severe foraminal stenosis, moderate degenerative disc disease and a central annular tear!
Damn so you experience pain even after having surgery? I thought surgery was suppose to be the ultimate savior from pain..this isn’t reassuring. Wish you the best.

Thank you for posting. There is not much unbiased info on spine surgeries so your testimonial is important. Hope you are well. God bless you!

I’m set for same surgery in February. I’m 49 and have suffered for about 3 years with pain from a fall.
Best of luck to you! So far, it has been a good choice for me and I'm glad I went with the ALIF approach. The first two weeks or so were not easy, but after that things have been looking up!
What's ALIF? Thanks
