Based Erlang enjoyer. My favorite discovery during the fight was when I learned to use Immobilize to force him into his counter-attack animation which gives you enough time to land a free heavy attack which cancel his counter-attack. This was so cool because Immobilize was still technically doing its job while simultaneously bypassing Erlang's immunity to heavy attacks.
Great vid! As someone who wants to make their own action game with a handful of souls inspiration, i've been loving the boss ranking more than others since it feels a lot more constructive and goes into detail of the movestes. Combo tree's are basically my favorite gaming thing ever now and seeing how far this game can push it is astonishing. One day i hope to create a boss worthy of the likes of erlang and wukong and these analyses feel like they help tremendously. (On the other hand promised consort is my favorite boss in gaming so what do i know.)
Great video bro always nice to see how others felt with certain bosses (I’d put yellow loong as the second best next to wukong but that’s because I’ve fought him as early as possible in ch.4 with literally no damage output)
DeliriusHunter is too late to the (diddy) party but here we are. Great ranking series overall, some of my favorite editing yet. Absolutely agree with Erlang on the top, prob mechanically best boss I've ever seen. Hardest disagree is Violet Spider.. she was GREAT, awesome fight and seeing her only in decent was pretty sad tbh. Overall great Game, actually amazing game, probably my second favorite game of 2024 after Lost Crown. Great fight, loved the video
One thing I find great about Erlang that hasn't been covered by the video: he copy your four banes status to use against you. And not just cheaply done too. He actually has an animation where he picked up the residue of fire (ice, poison) you used from the ground and coat his spear with it, then style on your for a good chunk of a minute.
Really great video. I think main issue with hard bosses is, if they are so much harder than everything else it seems unreasonable. I personally love the boss, so I don't necessarily have that complaint, but I do prefer scaling is very visible in difficulty. To make an example without spoiling too much in case you dont know/havent played game. The best boss in nine sols is by far the hardest, but nothing in the game really compares you for that fight, which makes people "rage" over it. If game was better at scaling up to that specific fight, it would be awesome. And in case you haven't played Nine Sols... get on with it, I know you love HK and I know you love fromsoft.
Just to add to the erlang love, if you use any bane against him while guard is still up, he will channel it into his spear and use it against you 💀 What a chad
Of all lists l've seen, yours' is most similar to mine: 10. Stone Monkey 9. Four Kings 8. 100eyed master (but I fought him after the patch though) 7. Duskveil 6. Yin Tiger 5. Yellowbrow 4. Inspector 3. Great Sage 2. Erlang 1. Yaksha King (but without Red Boy)
Those double bosses were the highlight of this game for me. Yeah this game had incredible solo bosses(admitedly much better than double overall), but this was first game in my memory that made double bosses really enjoyable. And overall bosses were much much more enjoyable for me than anything fromsoft have produced since ds3. And broken shell/stone monkey felt like a true last boss it made sense it was awesome it was fun it was hard it was great spectacle it had incredible cinematography(best boss to date for me) with Erlong being close second. Also every secret zone/boss in context of final chapter boss and whole wukong lore made so much sense.
Btw just wanna bring up that the reddit post at 38:16 was bs lol The guy was complaining about rock solid not working on erlang is legit untrue lol. Rock solid legit stops most of erlang's attacks 😭
22:34 lion dude...not a tiger...btw great video enjoyed it...especially the part 2 of this boss video series where you made fun of pale axe steward...lol
Erlang is really great and might even be objectively the best boss as you explain but off how much I enjoy a boss it’s easy the great sages broken shell and it’s not even close tbh only real weakness is no dialogue
I think my comment didnt send but scorpionlord is extremely reactionary imo. I beat him in 3 times and i didnt " memorize" his moves. Yellow loong took me like 15 tries and he was an extremely " memorize" heavy boss. Thats just my opinion tho. Great video
Red Loong annoys me so much because he's got a sweet design and his moveset is genuinely quite fun (if a little too easy) but the two times i've fought him he's literally been struggling knocked over for about 70% of the "fight". Surprised you didn't mention that. Maybe i've just been really unlucky (technically lucky) about his staggers. Or maybe it's a pillar stance thing?
Great Video. But for me sadly Supreme Inspector would be awful Tier cuz it was just a lag fiesta on PC. Almost all other Bosses were fine (Kang Jin Star was also pretty laggy but not as infuriating as the Inspector)
3:53 I didn't have this "bug" when I played. Instead it took 2-3 3 focus heavy attacks to take it out of it,... or wait for about a minute or two for it to expire by itself. Horrible design, indeed, but it might be intentional. Don't know for sure though, of course.
Well on the part of OST, I agree. I much prefer Elden Ring OST, Dark Souls 3 or even Lies Of P over Black Myth: Wukong. This is just personal preference
You said that the game generally doesn't have good music, but are there exceptions? Did some of the major bosses or story moments have good or great music?
There are exceptions for sure, I pointed them out as often as I could but left some unmentioned. I liked the music in most if not all of the animations after each chapter, I liked the headless singer in chapter 2, black bear guai, keeper of the flaming mountains, yaksha king, kang jin star, non white, phase 3 of supreme inspector and erlang. Probably a few others too that dont come to mind immediately.
Am I the only one who didn’t find anything special with great sage? His mechanics feel too soulsy. He never really lets you do anything cool with the combat, it’s just attack dodge attack dodge for most of the fight. He had way too much poise for how agile and lengthy his combos are. I found erlang much more enjoyable. Best bosses off the top of my head(not ranked) -erlang -yellowbrow -yellow wind sage -Yaksha king
Hard to say, too early to say. Allmind resonated more thematically, story-wise (i dont really know much of erlang outside of what the game tells you since i never read or watched adaptations of journey to the west). But allmind also has a pretty bad phase 1, whereas erlang has some pauses in excitement.
Erlang is the absolute limit of dodge roll combat. But i think they could have gone even beyond allmind in ac6. If they ever make an ac6 dlc it has to have the best boss oat
I dont know many games with good chinese music that fits the period, and outside of a few exceptions wukong's just doesnt do it for me... but yeah wo long, despite all its many downsides, has pretty great music imo
@ngianaedm Oh right, I probably thought he was some other guy who already did this. I watch a lot of these guys and they have very similar thumbnails 😅
Maybe, i just feel i have little to say about the lesser areas. Many of them are just nice looking and were fun to discover, but have little content other than building up the boss of the area
5:04 Why did u put that boss in the good category. That's one of the easiest bosses and most boring boss in the game. I personally think bishu beast should be great tier. Erlang is a great fight but would be be the 2nd best imo if he either didn't have such a high parry bar or not have one at all and not use his long drawn out sword mini gin and big red lighting slam so much, and he should do more combo attacks instead. gameplay-wise its not even close, erlang beats him edit: oh you mean great sage... still mechanically better, even if music and visuals are superior for gael

I love Erlang's bossfight so much. I love how he adapts to you.
Erlang Shen and Great Sage's broken shell out here setting up new standards for bosses and to think this is this studio's first game.
My man erlang has more moves than all ds1's bosses combined
That might actually be true not gonna lie

It would only take one heavy + light tap from certain stances (dont remember which, maybe thrust), from what I've heard from other people.
