scotty, you are getting good at the thumbnail inserts, too funny dude, and awesome! and you might want to add to your video a fact, as i bought a 250 dollar truck cover, top of the line, but if you leave them on for extremely windy days, like i did out in farm land usa, the flapping of even expensive car covers, beats up against the paint job and makes areas look worn, pissed me off i tell ya.......! and what it was is that dust gets up underneath the cover and the dust acts as sandpaper and the dust is what dulls the shine permanently where the cover constantly bumps up against the paint in the wind.....
I would like to win I have a 2006 Infiniti g35 that I got my mother and the pine tree's get sap all over it ! I never thought about a car cover wish I used my brain sometimes lol
My girlfriend and I and my one-year-old absolutely love your show my one-year-old is mesmerized by you and your voice and your enthusiasm thank you for the show
It’s a good idea to clean the car before putting a cover on, because any dirt and grit will scratch the paint when you install the cover, when you remove it, and as wind blows and moves it around. While fitted covers won’t move over the car in the wind, the tighter fit causes more friction putting it on and taking it off. If the cover goes on and off frequently, it’s much easier and faster to clean the car with wax detailer and a microfiber cloth compared to a soap and water wash. Also..a tarp, over the car cover is a good idea for cars kept outside and not under a car port. Over time, dirt, bird droppings, bee droppings (the yellow spots) build up on the car cover, and it will need to be cleaned. The tarp adds an inexpensive extra layer of heat and moisture protection; and can be sprayed off easily and quickly with water any time. I’ve found that white tarps reflect heat the best. The tarp can be secured through its grommets with a few bungee cords. Eventually, (6 mos.-1 year depending on tarp quality and heat intensity) the sun will win the battle and the tarp will begin disintegrating. Then, just buy a new one, usually something like half the cost of a decent cover. The car cover then lasts years, remaining in virtually new condition.
Hello! By tarp, you mean a literal tarpaulin? I've been thinking of buying a car cover for ours since it's parked outside and I've had to wash the car every 1-2 weeks because of bird poop.
@YoungBlaze and thats just it. The cover itself is going to get dirty everyday from the dust and crap blowing around in the air. Then you have to take it off and store it with all the dirt on it. Most people put it inside the car so now the dust and crap is in the car and on the inside of the car cover.
Great video Scotty. I’ve also had some bad experiences with light scratches and abrasions due to the wind blowing the cover repeatedly on my paint along with leaves and twigs that blow up from under the car. I think it is a good idea to use a cover that is a larger fit for your car to have a bit more coverage underneath the car as well. This may prevent wind blowing things up and in between the paint and car cover.
If storing your car for an extended period of time I also recommend putting several sheets of BOUNCE inside the car and trunk and even under the hood to protect it from mice damage. Mice can do a HUGE amount of damage to a vehicle, especially if they start chewing on the wires or upholstery. And, God forbid they die in the vehicle. That's the gift that keeps on giving. Fill the car with BOUNCE instead. Mice hate it and it makes your car smell good. Happy Trails!
I had mice getting into the electrical box, of the outside part of my central air conditioning, I put some sheets of bounce inside, but it did not work. I put a package of moth balls in there and that has been working.
I live in Siberian climate. I worry about bears, tigers, and Ox scratch my car. For this, I use Spetsnaz light-armoured assault vehicle cover. Cover is completely kevlar with a soft inner coating of dead Siberian animals' fur (many options) so no scratching of car. Outer shell is coated in concertina wire and poison spikes. Large Soviet surplus mean this cover cost only 2341.48 Ruble local or 34.99 USD + 5.00 USD shipping. Kit also comes some landmine and T-5000 russian sniper rifle to fend off anything that moves within 100 meter of car.
Great video! I always thought a cover would get dusty inside and harm my paint job. Now I'm thinking of getting one to protect my 1970 classic ride. Tkx again!
"Paid 350 bucks for Celica...not going to buy .... " A new car cost 20-50+ grand. A premium $500 car cover to protect a $500 reliable vehicle is still a bargain.
I put a car cover over my car before a snowstorm. The snowstorm dropped over a foot of snow and I had a most difficult time getting the cover off the car. Certainly not lightweight there.
I bought a good cover for my car in outdoor storage for the winter. When I uncovered it in the spring,it was filled with live and dead mice, several nests that were constructed with insulation and the wiring harness was chewed to shreds.I even found a dead snake.I would make sure that you use moth balls or traps to prevent that happening to your car.
I had to get a new phone and I knew something was missing. Then I realized that it was Scotty. I just resubscribed and now everything's back on track. Got to love Scotty!
Nice thing about the fitted covers is they take in consideration features of your car other cars don't have. For instance, generic cover won't consider your rear placed antenna and so won't fit nicely unless you take antenna off or risk breaking it.
Custom covers, while expensive due to them being custom, are at the high end of the "want list". There are some slightly cheaper alternatives that still give the same amount of all-weather depending on the rating and weave. If you live in a 4-season area - depending on the brand of the cover - their highest rating would be from 5-7 layers on different brands. I've seen some for as low as $70-plus up to $200. Always try to get something breathable, you don't want that thing to permanently stick to the car and peel off the paint when you take it off - especially in winter if you've got one of those heavy duty ones. I've heared that there are some car covers that come coated with teflon inside and out - but they are supposedly insanely expensive.
Coverite Tybond is VERY GOOD from pep boys $59.99. You even have the grommets on the side of the car. This cover is very good if your car stays outside. It does protected against rain, snow and ice. I use this cover all the time. There is even two open flaps one on the hood and one on the roof for the air to be able to flow through the cover and out of the cover and you would think rain would get in or snow or perhaps ice none of that does when you remove this cover your car is dry. People swear my car is garage kept. The only problem I have is every once in awhile the deers and red tails foxes like to nibble on it once in awhile.
Sherloid Bai goodness gracious. I know you guys get it bad down that way. But honestly it's not going to evaporate on you. LOL I was looking at Pep Boys website earlier and they're offering it even more at a discount but I don't know if that's every state. I would say give it a try I have used this cover for at least 3 years now.
My dad bought one car cover from the supermarket (Lidel) for just €15 and it was literally so thin as a hear. But he hammered it in place it those steel camping nails and it lasted for almost a year. The wind was just to strong for it eventually...
Having no carport or garage, and my property having large trees everywhere leaving heavy tree sap and also bird poop, I bought an autocraft cover $65appx for my newly acquired 2004 Dakota Quad truck which has a beautiful blue paint job on it. Couldn't afford a better cover. Today someone told me, dirt will come under the cover, and cause SCRATCHES and marks!! So, I quickly came here to you Scotty. Would think you would've mentioned this in the video, if this happens. Don't see how you wouldn't. (BTW: there are no metal grommets on cover). I'm alarmed now. Companies sell covers advertising how great their covers are for outside. WHAT TO DO???
Thanks for sharing Scotty! That was very informative about car covers. I never really thought much about them before, but it does make sense to me to get one for times like right now, with the repairs I've been doing to the engine in my car because of a water pump failure and a couple of mistakes I made in the initial repair. Thanks again and God bless you!
Love your car mechanic knowledge with a tad bit of humor. I always learn something new from your videos as there are some small things especially in regards to car covers I wouldn't have thought of. Oh by the way thanks for the video on headlight oxidation removal. The product you recommended worked wonders for me as I already went through 3 products without resolve. Looking forward to your next video release! :)
In my experience, car covers are only good for cars sitting in a garage. Otherwise, dirt gets under even the best of covers and the wind blows the tarp and scratches the paint.
Your are terrific! Clear, common sense, humor, great information, great demonstration. Thank you! I just need a cover for summer to protect my 2007 Prius from the blazing sun in Los Angeles. You helped me think my purchase through to what I need. :)
These are things I never would have thought about on my own, my Jeep is 21 years old and until I started watching this stuff, I have never learned so much, this is stuff my college would charge me for lol again well done!
You forgot a couple things there. 1. A cover will block in moisture. This might not sound like a problem, but just leave a car outside with a cover overnight, and then be ready to regret it if the sun gets to it. There will probably be a bit of water on the paint, and once the sun hits the cover, it will cause the water to burn the paint (I don't know how hot that water gets, but taking the cover off will reveal a very noticeable amount of steam). Been there, done that. A decent outdoor cover will have vents to let the hot air out. Cheap ones will leave nasty marks on your paint. 2. Unless you just washed the car, it will have at least some dust. If you put the cover on and leave the car outside, it will take only a slight breeze to start rubbing that dust into the paint. Not good. I sometimes use a custom (home-made) vinyl half-cover for my Z3, but I always clean all painted areas that will come in contact with the cover before I put it on.
Very true, even Chevy Malibu Maxx goes for like $4000 for a 10 yrs + model (the good condition ones) So I believe it, some of the Toyota's are still in the 10000+ dollars for anything between 8-12 years old.
Really into the range of topics you cover. Both topics immediate to my needs and topics that educate me increase my breath of knowledge. Your delivery keeps me on my toes! Tim Freeman Aloha from Hawai'i
Thanks man. I am going to buy a cover for my new '83 300D beater while my garage is built. Almost wasted some money. This is my favorite show, thanks for doing it.
I live in Gilbert, AZ. One thing I notice, is all the Nissan Titans out here, the clear coats are all faded. I think people do not wax their cars like these use too, one reason the paint fades fast. My wiper blades only last a year, cause of the heat
XYtruck25 I live in Phoenix and my 2013 expedition is already showing signs of fading on the roof and in the sunroof. Waxing is very important to save your clear coat. I’ve also gone through lots of wipers; I learned that I needed new ones the hard way last week when we had that monsoon!
I live in western Australia similar climate to CA found a nice nylon one, yeah water goes straight through it but it air dries fast and the whole point was to stop sun damage light as a feather got it from a discount parts mob internet search might find you one.
I have a red 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX that looks brand new. I have always covered the car at work with a Eboliyion 3 and 4 cover. They have protected the car from the scorching sun. The clear coat has NOT peeled yet! The interior has also been spared from the sun by using a car cover at work for the past 20 yeats. I am about to buy a new Barret Jackson car cover at Prp Boys. The cover shoukd lsst 2 years beforevit slowly starts shedding. It needs to be replaced about ecer 4 to 5 years. The car cover has 4 layers of protection. When the car is at home, I am lucky enough to have the car garaged.
TA.Stockman H or a 2,500 wrap I jus started wrapping me 10 year old infinity the color is black and I like the way the car looks and plan to keep it for another 3-5 years and want it to look good after a while
Hey Scotty, I'm 68 and I have an sc300 lexus...1995...i LOVE this car. Please do a vid on that make, yr and model. I'm learning so much frm you. KEEP THE INFO COMING!!!
Do NOT use car or motorcycle covers, basically what happens is they keep moisture in and your vehicle will rust/corrode at an accelerated rate. Your vehicle will be in a bubble of moisture under that cover, you can imagine what happens... In the open air morning dew (and rain from the pavement) evaporates from the vehicle and doesnt have much time to corrode it, when it is covered it gets trapped by the cover, the sun heats it up and turns it into vapor and off to the races. You are much better off waxing and polishing your vehicle regularly to protect the surfaces.

Doubt it was 350. Unless he stole it, a Célica from that year is never 350 If it runs
probably got it from a customer, maybe needed a headgasket or something
I am guessing he meant it was more like $3500.

Bmw M3 e46 because you can't find anything in decent shape for under 10k
Very true, even Chevy Malibu Maxx goes for like $4000 for a 10 yrs + model (the good condition ones) So I believe it, some of the Toyota's are still in the 10000+ dollars for anything between 8-12 years old.
The exchange rate isn't THAT bad! ;)
Zig-zags' are not too thin if you know how to use em'.
Lead Poyzinun 😂
Zig-zag whites are all I use...
Hi scotty, i love ur videos, you are the best you tuber...u have a good day,
hello and thanks for the support!
Do they make car covers that protect against hail damage?
I need to get one for my 1980 camaro, I constantly have to wash it because over night the gravel driveway dust covers it
Its a scotty video. That being said, if it aint a toyota celica car cover. DONT BUY IT lol
MrRios
Nice info Scotty... I wish I had your energy....Thanks
Hey scotty 🤔 clean the bird poop first and clean the car and then put the cover on lmfao.... 😄👊 just kidding love you scotty.....
willmatic 84 Too much work
More truth than poetry to that. I would think leaving bird droppings on the car then putting the cover over them would damage the paint seriously!
Good Morning Scotty, loving your videos, keep em coming.
Really into the range of topics you cover. Both topics immediate to my needs and topics that educate me increase my breath of knowledge. Your delivery keeps me on my toes!
Tim Freeman Aloha from Hawai'i
I loved "the one man operation" LMAO!!
scotty, you are patriot
Ooo something like this would be great for my new mustang when I get it, especially given I park under trees now and then :)
Thanks man. I am going to buy a cover for my new '83 300D beater while my garage is built. Almost wasted some money. This is my favorite show, thanks for doing it.
I've checked ur stuff very good channel keep up the good work I'm. Planning on getting a car that to this channel I've learned a lot
These pics are really funny, great channel.
Love what you do keepp it up
thanks for the support!
Hi Scott I live in Arizona the sun here is very bad on paint I sure can use a light weight cover even though I don't think it will last very long
I live in Gilbert, AZ.
The hot sun will dry and crack through this $40 cover like a hot knife through butter. You are better off getting a blue tarp from home depot.
nissans are notorious for bad paint jobs not just titans
Lol I could use a car cover for my Ford fusion, rains every so often, especially in our parked condominiums, thorough vid!!
But whats the best way to wash the cover after it's covered in sap and bird droppings?
Car foreskin
Condom, keeps juices out.
Except it doesn’t stink
Scotty’s garage can be my car cover.
Sir Brellin gotta clean it out first
Lol
"It's too thin" friggin zigzag rolling papers. 🤣
If you go into deep woods, proceeds to shoe moonshiners
Replacing a $30 car cover is better than spending $5000+ on a new paint job. :(
TA.Stockman H or a 2,500 wrap I jus started wrapping me 10 year old infinity the color is black and I like the way the car looks and plan to keep it for another 3-5 years and want it to look good after a while
@@MarcoAntonio-rc9sd pics of the wrap lol im thinking of wrapping my g37

I actually had to pause the video when you showed that funky red car; your vids are so funny, Scotty!
Thank you Scotty. Informative and entertaining as always.
I like the new pictures in the videos
A garage is better than a cover
Ya if you can't keep your car in a garage you're just screwed.
Daniel Louie,
A garage and a cover is better yet.
Scooter P Actually not. The cover can scratch your paint.
Billy Morgan, dirt and dust can scratch your paint; not a clean scratchless cover on a clean waxed car.
Not everyone has a garage at work 🙄
$10 tarp from Harbor Freight. It keeps the rain out lol.
Excellent video! Keep up the great work!
Guardian covers are great. Use it for an outdoor motorcycle in Wisconsin. Still going strong after 4 years.
I did not see your comment earlier, so I wrote similar thing, but 100% right. It happened to me.
What if you just use it in the summer
Scotty always finds the cheapest way to live, not sure if thats a way you will want to remember when your dead.

It's great until a tree branch falls on it
Bradly Patterson you need a $600 car cover for tree branches.
Bradly Patterson you need a certified arborist with a big Stihl saw and climbing spurs.
