Once when I was cleaning out my grandmother's apartment postmortem, I was allowed to take her kitchen table home. It had a round, flat top that had a metal base that cut into four sharp metal legs that jutted out every 90°.
I flipped it top side down in the back of my car and began bungee cording it to everything I could find. Mom laughed at me and said it wasn't necessary, but I just turned back to her and said "well, it's just in case I hit a deer or something on the way home." I didn't want to be impaled on their table legs in an accident.
She didn't think it was so funny when I called her a half hour later, shaken up when a doe jumped into the road in the dark ahead of me. The impact bent the car's radiator into a lovely crescent shape.
Always secure your loads when driving, either in the bed of your truck or the back of your car. Anything not bolted becomes a missile.

My dad is a carpenter and moves lots of things in his truck. He always ties things down super good, from different angles. Sometimes he'll stop a little ways down the road to be sure nothing shifted or came loose. Sometimes things move and the rope need to be tightened. He always explained how things could slid forward and hurt us, or fall off and hurt a bystander or cause an accident. He grew up helping his dad move houses, so working all his life, he's seen things and heard lots of stories where people didn't tie things down properly and bad consequences.
Newton's laws of physics: an object in motion will remain in motion unless an outside force acts on it... you just gave the perfect example of your car stopping, and it not tied down, that table would have kept on moving. So glad you're ok and shared this post, so hopefully someone else will tie something down for a quick move across town. You may have saved another life.

Heard a frantic pounding on my door at 3 AM while my partner was in the hospital. Had a bad feeling, so I put on my boots and grabbed my cordless circular saw. I planted my boot firmly behind the door to keep it from opening wide enough for a human to enter. When I open the door to ask who's there, he started trying to force his way in. I shouted, "if you breach this door, you will die!" He said, "I'm not afraid of you; I can't even tell if you're male or female!" I responded, "Thanks, that's what I'm going for!" as I spun up the saw. At this point, a neighbor heard the noise and chased the would-be home invader away. Started working on getting a gun the next day.

On another note, my favorite longgun is hands down the Stoeger P3000. Zero recoil, and it's made in the same factory as Benelli. Dirt cheap for the best longgun I've ever owned, it was $400.

I was using an older toaster because the original one we had was broken, but we knew this toaster was okay because we had used it earlier. So I was washing some dishes and wanted to make some breakfast while I was at it so I went to plug in the toaster, forgetting my hands were slightly wet. As I reached for the outlet, I stopped and told myself that I should fully dry off and after doing so, I plugged it in and it sparked violently then started a fire! Before it got worse I thought I could yank the length of the cord to stop it from starting a fire and it worked. It was very ballsy though and I should have probably tried another method than yanking....

Here’s mine (be ready for an essay)
I’m an EMT and a few months back, I was working on the ambulance when my partner and I get a call for a rollover crash on a nearby highway. My squad responds and the fire department sends an engine and a battalion chief to assist. The engine got there first, and since the engine crew does have basic life support training, they start assessing the driver before we arrive. When we get there, the captain of the engine comes up to me and says “Hey Andy, there’s only one patient and we’ve checked them out, they were going to sign off” (sign off meaning refuse transport to the hospital). I respond “Alright, I’ll take a quick look at them.” I check the patient, a 47 year old female, and she tells me that she feels ok, no pain anywhere, no dizziness, feeling nothing unusual. I perform my own physical assessment on her and I don’t note anything serious and I was planning on letting her go. However, I then consider the mechanism of injury. Mechanism of injury is the process or event that occurred that caused any present injury, in this case that being the rollover crash. I decide that I’d like to take her to the hospital because of the mechanism and I convince her to go just to be safe. I decide to start heading to the nearest hospital, which is a womens hospital with its own separately functioning emergency room. It’s not a trauma center, but at first I didn’t see any reason to take her to a trauma center. After a few minutes, I get this feeling in my gut telling me, “you should take her to a trauma center, just to be absolutely positively 100% sure that there’s nothing wrong.” So I tell the driver to divert from the womens hospital to “The Med Center.” The Med Center is a large University hospital in the heart of the city I serve with a level 1 trauma center. I knew it would add an additional 15 minutes to our transport time, but I was willing to take it. I also activate a code 2 trauma alert, which is a level of trauma team activation in a hospital that is used for patients with traumatic, but non-life threatening injuries. We arrive at the hospital, transfer the patient, and everything seems well. The Med Center has a patient follow up program, which lets EMS providers know what happened into their patient after they get dropped off. Later that day, I get a follow up report and find out that this lady had actually dissected her carotid artery (the artery in your neck that supplies your brain with blood) and was slowly bleeding out internally and had to be rushed to emergency surgery. I realized that if I had agreed to let that patient refuse transport, she would’ve likely bled out internally later that night. So I had not one, but two “just to be safe” moments. My decision to convince her to go with us and my decision to divert to a trauma center.
TL;DR lady gets into a rollover crash, overall seems fine and doesn’t want to go to the hospital. I convince her to go and we find out she is bleeding out internally.

I was driving in a vehicle with one of my friends and we went and stopped somewhere. I think it was McDonald's. When we hop back in the vehicle and we were going to drive back to his place I noticed his seat belt wasn't on. I told him to put it on and he argued with me about it and I told him all right then let me out if you're not going to put it on. I know it seems meaningless to argue about something so trivial but I've had family members put in the hospital and nearly die because they weren't wearing one and I swore I'd never drive in a vehicle or drive a vehicle where everyone wasn't buckled up. But we came up to a stoplight he put it on and when the light turned green no more than half a car distance in front of us someone blew through the red light going about 25 over the speed limit and only just barely missed us. It would have hit him nearly had on because of the guy making a turn and cutting in front of us. If he hadn't been wearing his seat belt you would have gone through the windshield easily from his momentum keeping him still but the vehicle getting jerked. He's always wanted a seat belt After that

I wanted him to drive home even though we'd discussed me driving on the way back because I knew my reaction time would be slow. I felt kinda lame but figured let's just be safe rather than sorry. A truck in front of us on the highway lost a fridge out of the back of their truck. My brother miraculously swerved and missed it. I know for sure I would have hit it. My family and I went to a friend's underground ttornado shelter while they were away only for the tornado to go nowhere near our house but to go directly, I mean dead-center over the shelter. When we walked outside, the friend's house was moved off its foundation _toward the shelter_ and our van had been lifted and placed back down. There were trees blocking the roads everywhere. When we got back home the only thing that was damaged was our porch because a small tree fell, right next to our glass porch doors that weren't even scratched. Insurance covered the tree's damages which helped pay for the house, van, and more.

My friend said don't bother bringing an umbrella but I did anyway. While exploring the shops a man tried to approach us asking if we were Americans and we said yes, he tried to tell us good shops to visit. I said no thank you and he tried to herd us like livestock out the door. I pulled out my umbrella from my backpack (it was in the cup holder) and I extended it and got it in both hands like a bat while getting my stance to swing. Mind you this was in public and he was not expecting an outburst like the one I was about to give. This one night I come up behind a 10-wheel truck on a back road and look around it to see if anything is coming. There are no lights. I start around and as I get to the front of the tandems I see the Mack bulldog on a light blue hood.
I reverted to the training I got in boot camp on the fastest way to get to a new heading and went off the road at a 45 degree angle and as I stopped with my back end 5 feet off the road the oncoming truck went between me and the other truck.
I had never used the maneuver while in the Navy.

I did everything right and it still ended up in a collision, no biggie things happen. Insurance is going through an investigation and everything will work out.

In the late 1970s when I was a young teenager, my parents gave me a fiver which was quite a lot of money in those days, and told me, this is your way home and out of trouble. I kept it for years, and tried to give it back, but they said spend it on your children.
So fast forward to when my children were young teens, this time with a £20 note.
My grandchildren have mobile phones, so no longer relevant. But that fiver in my show or bra or wherever but not in my purse was a good thing. RIP Mom and Dad xxx

Wanna find out how much goodwill you have with someone after you take their car and paint it vomit green with a dash of sprinkled cheese? No? Good. The seatbelts are there for a reason, folks. Tie those bags and cases up.

On my way back home from school, on a ride with my transport lady's daughter, I had the random thought that we were going to crash. I put my phone inside my bag just to be safe, and kept myself behind the driver's seat. Lo and behold, we crashed the front of the car. Nobody got harmed and the damages were on the metal casing of both cars. Both of the motorists were school transport, so the main worry was with us, the kids.

A thing that saved my butt was when i warned my gf about a friend me and her know because i knew he was up to something so i warned her to tell me before assuming things on her own and what do you know from my experiences i Called it he was trying to persuade her i was cheating and such when i figured out he liked her on top of bad habit of lying to people because shes asked me is this true?! Which individually me i promised her i wouldnt break up with her and i told her i wouldnt especially this easily. Dont like seeing my lovely girls heart be manipulated. Right now it actual reminds me of kirito from sao she isnt your armor she isnt your shield she isnt your sword.

Story #4, the OP, his friends, with the exception of the sober girl, the drunk guy that was honest, and his girlfriend, all honestly need to lay off the booze, and the drunk guy, as well as his girlfriend, honestly need to get jobs provided to them by the OP so that way, the OP and his friends can do the drunk guy and his girlfriend an even bigger favor to their lives because they need to have second chances at living, especially with the drunk guy stopping the crackhead auto thief.

    The first message.
That's pretty common. Most women, not ALL don't really want the kids after a breakup, they only want them because the father does and they hate him. They want to do the most damage to him by jeep him away from his kids. They're hate towards their ex also falls on the kids because it's hateful to keep kids away from their father that loves them. Just like it's hateful to keep kids away from a mother that loves them.
Every single one of my friends went through the same thing I went through. We all had moms that kept us from our fathers because they hated us and him.

It's not that interesting of a story, but I still look back on it fondly.
In job corps, we were at that week 3 where we would shadow 3 different trades. One day, I shadowed culinary. Unfortunately the trade instructor wasn't there yet. Also unfortunately, that meant 90% of everyone there used this to screw around and goof off.
At one point, the culinary students broke out these massive tubs of ice cream and let anyone who wanted some to help themselves. I was one the few who turned down the offer.
    Eventually the trade instructor arrived.
Instantly everyone who was shadowing that day with a bowl of ice cream in hand was sent away. I and one other girl was allowed to stay.
About 10 minutes later, the trade instructor decided to send us back too. Before we left, I asked if this was because of what happened or for another reason. He said it's because he was late and we did nothing wrong.
About 20 mins later, everyone shadowing culinary was put in a room and chewed out by someone whose specific job I can't remember.
The person who was sent back the same time I was spoke up and mentioned the question I asked and said to contact culinary to back us up.
Her and I were the only two who didn't get into any trouble.
Not only was I glad I asked for that clarification earlier, I was ever so grateful for her to bring it up because my anxiety ridden @$$ wasn't gonna let me bring it up.
