I don’t think putting serbs croats and Bosnians all in one country is a good Idea
Lmao. Putting us together on you tube is bad enough. Peace to all.
What kind of logic is that? No one's "putting" anyone anywhere.
These people lived side by side for centuries. They still do: in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Percentage of total pop. - Bosniaks: 50%, Serbs: 31%, Croats: 15%), as well as Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and elsewhere, not to mention as diaspora in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the US, etc.
Aside from nutcases, they get along perfectly fine. In time this will probably improve even further. Don't believe the flashy political populist melodrama. Or UA-cam comments. Trolls, flamers, bots and impostors everywhere, seeding hatred for whatever their reasons.
@@iLuvHardStyle I am a Serb. Did you really just called out on a random person on UA-cam as "you foreigners", as if that person could be responsible for anything related to Balkan politics of the past? There is no "us" and "them", friend. Ironically, what you don't see is that such mentality made the 90's possible. There is no foreign or domestic finger that can make me hate someone like that. I always blame individuals, rarely certain governments and their moves, never the people, whoever they are. People are just unsuspecting pawns in the hands of the mighty few.
@Niko Umicevic And you base that statement on what exactly? There was never a claim from me to know and understand absolutely everything about the 90's, as probably no one with integrity should. However, I've lived through that period in Yugoslavia, was witness to the events, studied it, all while remaining as objective as one can be. So, what's your point, again?
The Hungarians wanted to break up with the Habsburgs in 1848, fighting a war of independence against the Austrians. The victory could have been successful, but the Habsburgs called on the Russians for help, who defeated the Hungarians together with the Habsburgs. If this had not happened, Austria and Hungary would have been two separate countries.
And apparently, the Hungarians wanted nothing to do with WW1. Which is jarring considering how much Trianon cost them.
@@readsomebooks666 Hungary and Austria formed a dualistic state, but power was in the hands of the Habsburgs. The Austrian emperor was also the ruler of Hungary. When the heir to the throne was killed by a Serbian man, the Habsburgs sent a message of war to Serbia. They drove the Hungarians into war, but the Hungarians were not strong enough to resist. Hungarians can do the least about the outbreak of WW1, but they have lost the most.
@@gaborkustra1213 Oh, I know all that. Studied large tracts of WW1 in Uni. Just making a passing comment.
And then chad Prussia came and clapped Austria, so to get back powaaaaaaaa they made an alliance with Hungary
@@gaborkustra1213 "not strong enough" try to fight against 4 countries from 3 different places .____.
The empire was actually trending upwards in terms of stability until the war happened. And there was a percentage of the population in the successor countries that looked back on the old empire with nostalgia. If it had been given more time, it may have improved the treatment of it's different ethnicities across the territory, (especially if Franz Ferdinand had lived to become emperor). They already had considerably high standards of living compared to the rest of Europe. Even before the dissolution of the empire, the issues people had were more of sharing rights and privileges rather than the empire existing as a repressive entity. But who knows.

I see someone is still salty about Napoleon.
It was quite decentralized even at that time, it had regional capitals, 13 official languages, it would be a great nation today. I am sure.
kinda like Brazil (on a smaller scale) or India (on a larger scale)
It was actually more decentralized in many ways than one would think from the video. Historically, it was the personal union of two countries, Austria and Hungary, but many of the regions had their own local funny businesses (eg there was a separate Croatian-Slavonian Diet and autonomous government, independent from Hungary)
@@MrKrtek00 Yes but I meant that beginning 1870s until 1919, for instance, Hungary imposed compulsory hungarian language use in parts of romania and serbia, I jnow this because I am of Czech origin and live in a part of Romania, near Serbian border due to my ancestors defending the border then with Ottomans they were dislocated, it happenend often in the Austrian Empire
@@robertdraxel7175 you mean compulsory language use in certain offices… most town had at least newspapers at least 2-3 languages, schools were mostly using the local languages, so compulsory use a single language wasn’t common (unlike eg in modern Romania…) i am saying this as someone with minority background from Hungary.
@@MrKrtek00 I know that EU is more illiberal. We have to buy only American gas, and fuels, only western companies can make profit in our country, the Russian or Chinese companies should disappear according to EU and finally: their armies station on our territory, in Romania even the Deveselu Radar which directly provokes an otherwise calm and constantly getting richer Russian state. They don't care about freedom for Russians, they want Russia to be submissive.
Before his assassination, Franz Ferdinand came up with a plan to maintain the empire while granting a lot of autonomy to it's provinces and territories, called "the United States of Greater Austria", which only sounds dumb but was actually a pretty neat idea.
As early as 1850, Lajos Kossuth proposed to transform the kingdom into a Danube confederation with autonomous territories.
Which is probably why he was assassinated. It would have made the Serbs too content to unite with Serbia which the black hand desperately wanted
Serbia came up with a plan to give german people in greater serbia full autonomy, that was a pretty neat idea but austrians didn't accept it so it had to be destroyed forever.
Don't forget Franz Ferdinand Troyalisam idea
@@cantripleplays just like germany appeared by unification of all german speaking tribes, Italy appeared by unifications of all latin speaking states, serbs gotta right to do the same, but Austria-Hungary kept over 2 million serbs plus annexed Bosnia 1908 with a plan to occupied Serbia too.. it was complete inadmissible so, sick tired of slavery, serbs decided to finish with A-H once and forever.. and bring a freedom to all slavic nations Czechs, Slovaks, Croatians, Slovenians, part of Poland and Romania then Bosnia as well as Serbian province of Vojvodina.
Serbians are Spartans of 20th century. Fighters for God's justice.
Ah yes china the greatest colony of Austria-Hungary
Austria Hungary owned a very small colony on the coast of China.
but why tho
@@nsiria6656 Because the Chinese were weak and taking land from them was just as simple as showing up to claim it.
@@kidfox3971 I think it's just partially true. Circa 1890 Empress Cixi's government refused sell their territory to Italy. Empress said: We will not give them even one span of Chinese soil!
(And also, the only colony)
Some kind of cooperation between ex Austria Hungary members would be pretty interesting. There is quite a large amount of produce being transported through the region towards the north out of witch most of us only experience the roads being ruined all the time by heavy transport vehicles witch they are not designed for. I wonder what power could they hold if they decided to control the flow of goods together.
Actually Croatian was also official language, in Kingdom od Croatia-Slavonia...besides German and Hungarian elsewhere.
At later on Emperor of Austria (or later Austria-Hungary) held the title king of Slavonia, king of Croatia and king of Dalmatia or as it was known "Trojednica" (loosely translates to "kingdom of three"), and since Dutchy of Croatia has most of it's original territory in present day and Ottoman era Bosnia, it is likely that the annexed Bosnia would become the 4th kingdom of Kingdom of Croatia. That is why certain members of Croatian intelligentsia tried to define Croatia as a multicultural state where Muslims, Croats and Serbs can live under the protection of the same Ban (regent of kingdom of Croatia) and Emperor. Unfortunately, when Austria fell apart after ww1 that idea of multicultural state turned into Yugoslavia which didn't really care to give everyone the same rights which then caused the chaos and hate spread by all sides that were the victim of each other that lasts to this day.
@@teetman322 Croatia was kingdom from 925-1918, so there was no "Dutchy of Croatia". in Austria-Hungary. The Triune Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia (virtually Dalmatia as well) was part of the St.Stephan's crown. King and empearor Karl signed the transformation of the state into a three-part state on November 13 th 1918., and it was soon after accepted by Hungarians, but its realisation did not take effect because of the pro-Yugoslav forces in the Croatian parliament at the time. Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia was the core of the newly declared State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, on October 29th. 1918. Therefore, Croats as the only political nation within it had a central role. The state existed until it eventually merged with Kingdom of Serbia on December 1st. 1918. The who settlement had nothing to do with Bosnian Moslems. They were incorporated in the Independent State of Croatia (1941-1945) in another era. That was an attempt of a Catholic.Moslem state.
@@atisalvaro I was referring to the original dutchy (kneževina) of Croatia before the kingdom and how it's territories were located mostly in present day Bosnia. Also annexation of Bosnia and Muslims happened before ww1 and that is what I was referring to when I mentioned the idea of multicultural Croatia started to form (Ilirizam). The rest you said stands.
@@teetman322 It's not that the territories of the Dutchy of Croatia "were located mostly in present day Bosnia" The core of the state was in (actual) North Dalmatia, and most of its territory was on the territory where Croatia is still today. Yugoslav idea that was invented in Croatia in mid XIX century did not tackle multiculturalism (to include Muslims). It was based on linguistic and political Slavism. A branch of Croatian Statehood Right Ideology was first to include Bosnian Muslim into a wider pan-Croatian orbit. These two projects are completely diverge.
@@teetman322 "that is why certain members of Croatian intelligentsia tried to define Croatia as a multicultural state where Muslims, Croats and Serbs can live under the protection of the same Ban" None tried to do that. But they managed to obtain a trialistic transformation of the state, where Zagreb would be the centre of South Slavs. Further details were not defined at the moment. However Croatia would have become based on the Crown of Zvonimir, along with Slovene lands, Bosnia and Herzegovina

House of Habsburg still exists in Austria, and the Austrian Royal family still exists as well (yes, they are considered royals) the party is led by Karl Von Habsburg, He was born in 1961 and was the first Royal to get COVID (he survived ofc)
But he's a sellout...... working as a banker in Switzerland, for the £$£$£$£$. No interest in his family history.
You obviously never heard of the Habsurg law which dethroned the Habsburg family and transfered all their belongings to the Republic. Also the Adelaufhebungsgesetz which abolished nobility also in 1919.
There is no such thing as "royals" in Austria. They are "regular" citizens as everyone else. It was also not allowed for them to travel to Austria until they declared that they are not willing to claim any title/crown/whatever again and commit to the Republic of Austria.
But since 2011 they technically could run for president again.
But by record they are not called "von Habsburg" as royals but by their family name "Habsburg-Lothringen".
@@Alphyyn I have heard of the Habsburg law, I've studied WWI and WWII quite a bit. Technically, the Habsburgs are Royals, most people use the pretty broad definition of that individual simply being a member of a house/dynasty and (as you know) the House of Habsburg is a dynasty/house.
It would work perfectly fine as long as you would not enforce bizzare laws (like banning languages) and dissolve elitism between nations. It would work like a mini-EU with more centralised government. And it really would work, because most people really do not care about nationalism as long as they are not treated like animals.
I don't think it would. Such a state construction would require even more compromises and sovereign powers being given up than being part of the EU. We already see more and more complaints, most of them coming from countries that were formerly part of the empire about how bad it is when more power is being centralized at Bruxelles. This issue will appear in a supposedly reunited Austria-Hungary as well.
"And it really would work, because most people really do not care about nationalism as long as they are not treated like animals."
Highly unlikely. Most people today in this part of Europe are not treated like animals. But they are still very nationalistic.

When talking about languages Czech and Slovakian can be sorted as one language since I hear that they can mutually understand each other and can communicate while speaking their languages. Poles can also understand a decent part of them so it could perhaps be one of the major languages in the empire.
Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin are also almost completely similar and are all grouped as Serbo-Croatian so that part of the population would also have 0 problems understanding each other.
Slovaks and Croatians understand other Slavic languages without any problem, Czechs understand Slovak, Polish, Sorb, and Croations. Polish understand fully Slovaks, and lot of Czechs. Moreover, Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Slovenians and Montenegrin is difficult to see as different languages, even for some natives. Czechs, Polish, Sorbs, Croatians and Slovenians usually knows German. Slovakian and Serbian usually knows Hungarian. Language will not be a big problem:-).

Unrealistic, Czechs hated Austria-Hungary and the Habsburgs.
Not really, there was some hatred towards them in the higher circles but most people simply didn't care, it wasn't even until later part of the WW1 that the idea of creating separate Czechoslovakia appeared, before that most people just thought that the empire would be federalized.
@@eozcompany9856 that's basically the whole story of Austro Hungary. Most of the ethnicities were happy to fight for their empire in 1914. By 1918 the various ethnicities were sick of the millions that had died from the war and famines and simply decided to use the institutions they had to create their own nations.
I do..?
AH was the 7th economy by GDP in 1914. Like Russia, after a slow start it was rapidly growing and industrialising. The war it started wrecked all that. Trade as proportion of world GDP did not return to 1914 levels until 1973. WW1 led to WW2. Population levels in Eastern Europe and Russia also did not recover to 1939 levels until the early 70s. It is interesting to speculate what Europe would be like today if Vienna and the others had avoided war over the last century.

very devout Catholic, and is working on having his grandparents, Emperor Karl I and Empress Zita, canonized as Saints.
As far as becoming Emperor goes, the Archduke (yes, he has that title) says he doesn't care either way. He doesn't expect Austro-Hungarian Empire to reunite, but if it does he hopes he's ready for the task.

Having German and Hungarian as officially dominant language is exactly I wouldn't do on re-union of AT-HU. At this point, the EU policies are a well-done example, and I would apply them, perhaps adapted to the special situation as many of the languages were majority languages elsewhere.
India is another country with many languages spoken. The way they handle this is that many Indians speak English as a second language (most native English speakers would dispute that they actually speak English, but that's a different topic). A large number of people in the new AHE would also speak English, and it would probably become the language most used for business and commerce in the country. Two Austro-Hungarians would be more likely to have English as a language in common than German, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, or another language.
The disastrous part is how this would immediately start WWIII as a result of that tiny territory in China. People's Republic of China would, undoubtedly, annex the AHE territory in Tianjin.
Of the 13 (not counting China itself), 9 of the states that would lose territory to the AHE are members of NATO (Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia). Of those, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Montenegro, Slovakia and Slovenia are entirely within the AHE and cease to exist as independent states -- which means the AHE is considered all of their successor(s). A majority of the people and the land would be comprised of NATO territories, which means the answer is probably yes.
This, then, means war. AHE would invoke Article V of NATO, having been the victim of an armed attack by the PRC when the PRC annexed imperial territory by marching soldiers into it. This drags the following nations into a war with PRC -- Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, FYROM, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey, UK and USA. Two more nations -- Australia and New Zealand -- would also be dragged into the war as a result of their treaties with Canada, UK and USA. It's incredibly likely to see even more countries join in just because they want war with China -- Japan, ROK/South Korea, ROC/Taiwan, Philippines, and potentially also Malaysia and Vietnam.
If we reunited today, we'd beat some serious ass I swear

How to insult somebody from Austria: Call him German
I am from Austria and i am not insulted if someone calls me a German. This paranoia against being associated with German war crimes was linked to a specific generation of people born just after the second world war and it is fading away quickly now.
true
If Celtic and Slavic elements have indeed influenced Niederdeuschland, then it makes Hochdeuschland Germans purer and More German, including the Austrians. So according to your data, the Austrians will be MORE GERMAN then the Germans themselves.
No, Austrians are not more German than other Germans. Genetically speaking, north-western Germans are closer to the original Germanic tribes, while north-eastern Germans have more slavic roots and southern Germans such as Swiss and Austrians have more celtic roots. That does not make any of them less German, though, because the German nation was formed in the middle ages and has integrated all of these roots. Austrians are however part of the High German (Hochdeutsch) dialect zone which was the basis for modern written German. So, in a way, northern Germans are learning southern (Austrian and Bavarian) German language at school now and have largely abandoned their original local languages (Plattdeutsch) as a result. Which only shows how much all of German-speaking Europe is connected and how much Austrians are just Germans by another name.
I was not claiming that, I was saying those things according to Aleks Kevyn's comment.

The part about languages has one major flaw. Czech and Slovak are so similar, they are mutually perfectly intelligible, meaning that Czech and Slovak speakers would make up a majority in that department.
But still they are different languages
They Are almost same...
Its the same with Slovenian and Croatian. Very similar, mutually intelligible (or so my grandparents tell me)
Sharni Stevens Slovenian and Croatian aren't mutually intelligible, tough they are related. Croatian, serbian, bosnian, macedonian and montenegrin are mutually intelligible and can be grouped as a one language, Serbo-Croatian.

Stop hating on people who say that we are German! What's the problem with being German? It doesn't make you less of an Austrian! Austria is part of the German language and culture area! All Austrians knew that they were German until the Allies made lots of anti-German propaganda after WW2! Our ancestors ruled the Holy Roman Empire of the GERMAN Nation! We should be proud of our German blood! Being Austrian isn't a contradiction to being German! We can be both Austrian and German! We are all Austrians and all of us are German!

Majority of Austrians were brainwashed after WW2 into thinking that they are not Germans.
But history and facts are different from propaganda Austrians=Germans, same nation, same people different countries.
There was no need to brainwash the Austrians after WW2. WW2 itself was the reason, why Austrians started to hate Germany. The second lost war lead by the Germans. The second big catastrophy for Austria in only 30 years. No, there was no brainwash needed.

The way you've described it; an absolute monarchy, would never survive in modern day Europe. But it would realistically become a federal republic, so wouldn't have an emperor, but a president. In fact the arch duke was addressing the idea of federalisation at the time of his assassination.
Since most of those countries are members of the EU, it would probably join the EU, allowing full access to the single market, and having many European allies, as well as the benefit of European support regarding separatism. With the threat of vetoing any nation joining the EU such it secede, it might be able to hold the federation together.
Interesting that you mentioned the capital, as it would realistically have to be neither the capital of Austria or Hungary. In a federation the capital has to be neutral ground, and can't be the capital of any of the states (it's technically not part of any state), and ideally on the boarder between two states.
The unification would mean the country would be able to grow much faster than each individual country currently is, so it's GDP would increase, and within 20 years could possibly become the second largest economy in Europe, after Germany, and thus very influential within the EU. Unfortunately this growth, and the nationalism within each state would mean they'd likely want to leave both the federation and the EU, which would be economically devastating but would still probably happen, so no, it wouldn't last very long, as people are terrible at recognising what's best for them as instead they look for things that confirm their wishful thinking.

What about the Pope?
Or we all should just go back to monarchy!
Unfortunately, the monarchy has been abolished and what remains of the House of Hapsburg-Lorraine have stopped claiming the throne, I believe.
The constitutional monarchy could work. It's the same system that for example Sweden and Norway are using.
Imagine it had the shape of only the nations that were fully part of it
Most "Italians" you mentioned would actually be from Südtirol (South Tyrol) and German speaking. These people have been part of Austria for ages and only been absorbed into Italy right after WW I.
People from South Tyrol normally don't consider themselfe Italian and calling them that is like calling a Scottsman to be English.
In fact a lot of people from Südtirol hate Italians, because after they were included into Italy they were forced to give up German, some of them got new family names, all the villages got Italian sounding names. When they had a resitance movement that wanted to rejoin Austria in the 1970 and 1980 a lot of those people were torchered and imprisoned by the Italian police.
