- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1988 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

The previous owner or owners of this classic 900 really left a bad examples of what could have been a highly desirable car. That poor thing sounded like it wanted to be put to death.
The best of the pre-GM Saabs was the SPG 900 Turbo which really was an amazing car to drive as well as a very comfortable car for a decent road trip even with the SPG ( Special Performance Group ) package with tighten suspension.
Most all had lower body side molding with a somewhat lower ride height and the large rear spoiler just below the glass on the rear hatch. Most all of them were black on black with the same interior color seen in this video.
I had a classic 900 S and found that Saabs are over-engineered ( especially in safety ) and unique cars with tons of character not seen in other nameplates. Also well known for reliability with proper maintenance and common sense. Most owners who knew the brand would consider 100k just broken in.
I wish you could have had the chance to tour my old Saab that I had traded in for a new Honda Accord. I miss the double takes I'd often get or meeting another owner with a pre-GM 900. They were wonderful to drive and for those that had one in the past, never forgets them.
I think it sounded they way it did because it probably hadent been started or ran in a very long time as well as likely also having old stale gas in the tank, although all that water in the exhaust could have been a bad headgasket.
And 7 years later i have a feeling this car has long since been scrapped and crushed.
That is the gnarliest looking shift boot I have ever seen
it's vintage, George!
J'Y FF CM T
Thats impressive, you managed to find one of the shittiest examples of one of the worlds greatest cars.
You got that right!
This saab could use, but doesn't need a minor restoration
Yep.
Vincent Verna oh shut it saabs are great. Yeah the exterior looks ugly but it can be polished or resprayed
I can top it 😂😂 I know where one of these is sitting in an old barn where its sat for more than 20 years
The thing is definitely on it's way out though I must say: I LOVED my 900S and my 9000S, both absolute tanks! These old saabs had this feel to it...i can't explain it.
They felt like they were made from one giant block of steel.
I felt incredibly safe driving my (then) 2 year old daughter to daycare and back in my 9000. LOVE that car to this day!
That buzzer sound lol. beee *eeee* eeeee *ee* eee *EE* ... LIKE WTF
they way it died when he tried to start it the first time tho was hilarious! BEEEEeee
The old Saab's had the same pathetic-sounding buzzer.
For such a then-modern car, it sounded terrible.
I heard that sound in my dreams when my dad had a Saab 900. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....
What I thought was funny was the inconsistency of the note of the buzzer and thee way it changed when he turned the key.
What year did Saab finally kill that stupid buzzer in favor of the chime?
could it make a more annoying door open noise
Yes and I notice the presenter happily talking over the loud, strident Eeeeeeeeee! He seems to be oblivious of unpleasant noises.
That buzzer is one of the most annoying sounds I've ever heard......
J-Man Peterson yeah I know.
First thing I ever did was pull that relay.
That gave me a headache
Brings back memories, a friend of mine had a 86 2-door turbo. Had lots of fun as a teenager in the 80's.
Whoa.......... This car really needs a serious restoration. Even the tacho doesn't work!
I miss my ‘85 900 Turbo sedan. A great car and so much fun to drive. Mine was silver with burgundy velour. Truly beautiful and it had the rubber spoiler on the trunk.
car takes a diarrhea dump at startup
Makedeth ikr at 1:46
Savage Bush same here 😂 the car's revving was grunting
saabkyle, I really appreciate your videos. I've seen the 1995 M3, 8-series, and now this one. You have a knack for making these videos, and I love the car choices.
Great video as always Kyle! What a beautiful old Saab!
My aunt and uncle has this exact car. Always loved it. Wish Saab could come back non-GM. Such a unique car company.
Such cool cars. My neighbor had a 86 Saab 900 turbo 5 speed sedan. Black with gray cloth. Neat, quirky cars. I definitely want one some day. Great video as usual Kyle! Look at all those cassettes!
A lot of people don’t realize that Saab’s are one of the best kept secrets in automobiles
This exact Saab itself is my dream car
I love his car..my aunt had one. I wish they were still around! Love the quirks of them.
And this folks is a really reliable, strong saab
I love old SAAB's like these, so much character!
If you listen to the buzzer long enough, it almost sounds like a bagpipe.
Nice find, I love seeing these older cars. I like the collection of tapes in front of the shifter.
What a pile. I want one.
that "your key is in" buzzer is hilarious!
I'll take the 88 the way it is thank you. Great video
1:45 When you feed your car Taco Bell.
I’m buying a red 93 900 turbo vert tomorrow for $900! I’m so excited!
Why do people think this is in bad condition? (cosmetically speaking)
It only needs a new exhaust tip and a buff and wax to the paint.
damn i love your clips man :)
@saabkyle04 Kyle, this sounds weird, but when you run into a faulty speedo/tachometer do you ever just tap the instro cluster a few times? Sometimes it works.
Love how all those cassettes come with it.
At least he killed the buzzer for a while :) thx Kyle.
quick question, if i wanted the hood on a 2001 9-3 to open the same way the 900 does, what would i do?
Just pay some genius with cars structure and style to do it for you :P
I currently have both a '75(B) SAAB 96L V4 and a '97 SAAB 9000 CS 2.0t. Both are amazing cars and the 9000 is what some SAAB enthusiasts call the best modern SAAB, in my opinion the possible exception is the NG 9-5 with the sport chassis.
If you can, test drive a 9000. I'd recommend the CC or CS models, they feel slightly different on the road (CC feels a tad more "raw"). Never driven a CD, so I can't tell you what those feel like.
For some reason this reminds me of a Porsche in the front and body. And a old VW Jetta/Atlantic on the rear. Overall nice car. I love it.
I just love how different these cars are.....
And in the trunk you will find... Um never mind we will close that real quick...
Bob Saget lol

i love the buzzer on this!
Amazed it started up for being all original. Looks like its leaking oil on startup. Would love an all black 900 turbo especially a rare 900 with the SPG. Great cars when everything is restored!
Poor thing has had a hard life. Engine still sounds good! I love how the center console is still stuffed with cassette tapes! I bet they're all Roxette albums. :)
As for the running temp, it may that the fan simply isnt running (turn on AC to force the fan on), but the liquid spewing out of the exhaust makes me also suspect the head gasket. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thanks!
@saabkyle04 I couldnt find them. did you have a full tour because that would be nice
@pjtart It may not be antifreeze and probably is not. It is water that is built up in the muffler from condensation. And when he was revving it it made it blow out the tailpipe.
a car that fits your username, great! and nice job!
Saabkyle04 does the paint look faded or did it come like that???
@CARGUY379, sorry if I bothered you with all caps. it's just my keyboard was broken, and if you say to not buy a yaris, THEN WHAT CHEAP CAR DO YOU THINK I CAN BUY?
Are the cassettes in the console included with the car? >-)
@SaabKyle04 a great video as alway's gotta love the classic's classic Saab's are very unique and have lot's of character.
SAAB Kyle finally drove a SAAB again :D
My teacher has the coupe version of the 900 turbo. It's in amazing condition and he just restored the engine.
KYLE THIS IS ALEX FROM FLORIDA, SINCE I STARTED WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS I REULLY NOW APRECIATE CARS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! AND I WAS ALSO WONDERING IF YOU COULD REULLY MAKE A VIDEO OF A 3 DOOR TOYOTA YARIS. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME SEE IF ITS A GOOD FIRST CAR FOR ME AND FOR OTHERS.. THANK YOU SOO MUCH KYLE.
In surprisingly good shape considering the mileage. Nice find!
Good shape?!?!? Are you out of your mind? My Saab has over 300 thousand miles and compared to that hunk of junk it’s a new car!
I love the old looking saabs
yeah same here!
Saab 99 is gold! I'm saving up to one right now infact! ... but not a turbo.
But I'm thinking about 90, or 900 aswell.
My parents used to drive this car, they still have it, but it's been sitting in the garage for like 10 years. Time Capsule. Way better condition than this one.
I Just got a new badass Saab 9-5, maybe this was my original inspiration :)
A 900 Turbo 16v! 5-speed even! I wanted one of these for so long. I still want one! But they're so hard to find here. All there are here are 900S's. The turbo is the selling point for me.
Nice Video SAABkyle04!
It has a great sound! Totally unexpected!
...because there is a hole in the exhaust
i've seen your a euro fan? what kind of car do you drive?
Could you review the white Volvo S80 in your dealer coverage clip?
The buzzers when he opend the door for the headlights and hazard😂
did it come with the cassette tapes???
Iv'e got the 89 900 and its my baby i love that car
I've owned two of these and a bunch of other SAABs and this one can be brough back pretty handily I think.
nice vid as allways (Y) can you do a video with a saab 900 NG?
These are fun little cars, especially with the turbo and the manual. (:
is the white genasis urs at 2:33
The movie “Drive My Car” has a pre GM Saab 900 featured in the movie
that car needs some love
is the tach not workign?
That poor poor Saab, I'm interested in picking up a 900 turbo after I sell my rx7.
I've seen you on Matt's videos. Get a Saab, you won't regret it.
Might catch the bug and end up with more than one (like most of us)
kirbyswarp haha maybe.
Yeah! I have 3 Saabs and 2 Volvos. I'm a Swedish Car fanatic. I always loved those Saab hoods! They're so cool!
Ty U. That's an odd idea
well this saab will need: New starter,Full Exhaust system,New paint job,Enterior cleaning and some electrical fixing.
Wait.... is the engine sitting in the bay 180* from normal? I need to wikipedia these cars....
saab fans all over finding the one who trashed this car........
If this car was still there I'd go buy it. needs a good paint cut (easy), at least a muffler, and an interior (easy, there's tons with black leather here in the junkyard)- I'll never forget our 85 that we owned since new for 385,000 miles.
Kyle, could you do a review/tour of a Saturn Vue (1st gen) please?
The torque output is 181 lb-ft not 141 lb-ft. I think the torque peak was also at a lower RPM as with most turbocharged engines
and what transmission and engine
It wirks for iphone only?
Just turned 16 and I got a Saab for my birthday(:
Complete with faded paint, cracked dash, and cassette tapes! Reliving the 1980s...with a monster repair bill when this junker breaks down.
Even the seats are torn.
Even half rusted and leaking exhaust.
is this car for sale ? if yes what is the price ? thanks anyway
O man whats that fluid at 1:48? OIl?Gas?
Do any long time followers of this guy know if he sells his cars? Because I live quite near him, his town is only an hour or two away.
Been looking for a Classic Saab 900, seems to be the perfect car for me.
Hey SaabKyle, see if you can find a Saab 99; would love to see one of those...
This was at a dealer? They didn't bother to clean it up at all, looks like.
And I always love the familiar sound of the pathetic Saab seatbelt warning buzzer.
@MrBoredEntertainment they are all 4 cylinders...
also there are 4 spark plug wires, 4 intake runers, and 4 exhaust outlets...
is that maxima a auto or manual
What was that coming out of the exaust tip?
I think it coolant and the res looks empty.
I have a blue one of these, In very nice condition, A few differemt things could be fixed, how much would these go for? I dont plan on selling it, I love it sounds great and Is my first car.
Can you make a test drive of this car
I have the 93 na 2.1 vert. cost me 450. ran like dream and everything worked. now mothballed and waiting for a resto. from experience this example is very sick.
ive ridden in one of thest before, its actually not too bad
whats on the tapes?
I love the old Saabs.
so luxurious, automatic electric windows, turbo, leather seats, power mirrors
I used to drive a 9-3 I really miss it.. But jumped to a BMW 3-Series.
Saabs are really mean cars. I like them alot
is that the Hyundai genesis that you use to own at 2:33 ?
could you review a ford festiva they can be sort of hard to find
heey saabkyle04, your buggati fans are hoping you will make a veyron in depth tour of one of them
@Intelpentium54321 Depends on where you buy the parts. Trouble is, a lot of general mechanics refuse to work on these cars, so you either have to be your own mechanic or find an independent Saab shop. I've been wanting one of these for awhile since I bought my Saab 9-5 and really got into the brand.
@1bentley4ever I have an old Consumer Reports issue from 1989 - they rated the Saab 900's reliability as "much worse than average." All the Volvos were rated either "average" or "better than average."
