Dude, I loved my SPG my parents handed down to me in 1991 when I was in high school. I've had maybe half a dozen 900s and love them. Now I have a 2007 9-5 with only 80,000 miles and love it. Love your channel!
The best ever built. From 86 to 89 .. Pure true Saab, .. Ours is in beautiful shape all original and is car #14 off the assembly line. True beauty true collector
My dream car! Colour, wheels, everything is exactly as I want it. Great video Kyle, a lot of good information in this one. I've got an '02 9-3 anniversary 2.0t in midnight blue and a '93 900i in Imola Red.
david :D it's not that, this guys says it is his dream car then respect it, don't go hating on him saying that saabs are shit, I to do like saabs but I like every car
My dream car! Had a - 87 eight valve turbo for about ten years. Crappy breaks though. Our winter climate here in Sweden saw to that. But I still dream of this car. It was magic
Chevy had a turbocharged car called the Corvair in the 60's, before SAAB. Although ALL new cars followed SAAB's lead with 2.0 liter turbos in everything!
100 points for mentioning the cool air ventilation system!! I owned the convertible version of this car, purchased new in 1990, in Europe, where it was called the 900 Cabriolet Turbo Aero (which I understand is called SPG in the US). I would drive about twice a week between Paris and Brussels - a 3-hour drive which could be made considerably shorter (and a lot more fun) in a car like this. With cooler temperatures much of the year, it would be common to have some degree of heating on, but this cool air directed toward the face was very refreshing, and kept me alert. My recollection, with the special red engine performance module, was that it was rated for 200HP.
Quintessential late 80s car. I used to see these all over. Havent seen one on the road in 30 years. I saw a guy with one once that had a license plate frame that gave me chuckle "Too few women makes one want to Saab"
Throughout my high school years, I had a neighbor who owned a 1986 900T who let me drive it all around town as well as another acquaintance who introduced me to the SPG. I remember the Turbo lag and the steering felt quite light. The 86' had a smaller, leather wrapped steering wheel, from what I remember. This video takes me back.
I've always liked Saabs. I would love to see a complete review of a 1991 Saab 9000 Turbo Hatchback in prime condition such as the model 900 reviewed in this excellent video. The first generation of Saab 9000s were between the years 1984-1991. Your reviews are great and fully detailed. Great work!👍
Amazing work :) And please film more cars of 80s and 90s. Like Volkswagen, BMW... I think that would be great. You would be surprised how many people are not interested in supercars at all :D Keep up with good work. You have one of the best UA-cam channels.
This made me really nostalgic! My first car was a 1979 900 EMS, I then had a 1980 900 GLE 5 door, then a 1991 900 four door base model, and then a 1991 900 3 door base model. Loved them all, but probably the GLE the most (wonderful crushed velour interior, sunroof, and just so unique!). the 1991 four door was the car I owned and drove the longest.
I really miss my `86 SPG it saved my life in an Interstate hwy collision after 11 years of ownership in 1997. I've owned five SAABs from the 1980s and early `90s. I loved them all. I am thinking now of finding a nice 2008 - 2012 9=3 or 9-5.
I drove an '88 900t as a daily driver for 15 years. Ronal RT rims that looked amazing. Miss that really fun, unique car that was labor of love. I added a right vent for my hand since the far right center vent was too far away. Inidiglo gauges and other stuff. 3500 dollar stereo that I still miss. Sold the car when the head cracked, to a saabaphile and too much other stuff was needed. I would have kept it if I could find long term parking for it and another daily driver. I still have a soft spot for pre GM Saabs I knew GM was the final death nail for the company. Cheers. BTW, I got a brand new 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen SE and still love it. Reminds me of my Saab in many ways but very refined and fun to drive. :)
I had a 1991 SPG almost identical to this one. When that turbo was blowing hot my goodness it was insane on the interstate. It would feel like it was floating when I would accelerate and I could jam on the brakes and it would nose first toward the ground and stop on a dime. I would hit tight curves at insane speeds and it would hug the street (i had great tires and shocks). Speedometer went to 135 or 145 but there was room on the dial and I pushed that car all the way and butied the needle many times innthr middle of the night. Im sure I hit 155 and maybe a little faster. I miss that car so much. I gave it to my dad when I had my first child and he drove it till 330,000 miles when the local SAAB mechanic said he wouldnt work on it anymore due to some safety issues that were too expensive to fix.
Such an excellent car. I used to drive a cheap-o hyundai subcompact, 2012 model year. Similar handling and power-weight ratio to the ol Saab SPG, but it took many years to get there
I have an adjustable fresh air system for the middle air vents in my volvo and I love it. It's awesome to breath colder air while staying hot and comfortable. It's a shame that option is so rare in cars. It even disappeared from my model after the facelift.
These days, cracking a window is a great way to get water in your window switches - what a stupid place for them to put those switches! Oh, how I miss those rain gutters... :-)
Very good, comprehensive review. I especially appreciated the explanation of the unique drive train which eliminates torque steer when under acceleration. I own a 2007 Saab 2.0T which is a GM car and it does not do that and it shows. I imagine the twin drive shaft approach was expensive to make so no chance of that being continued under GM.
Was looking for Saab vids and this one came up first. Don't know why I was never subbed before, I've watched many vids from this channel. I am now, thanks for a great overview of one of my favorite cars.
The 80s 900 Saabs were notorious for tons of miles. I drove a used 88 turbo with 230k miles and it had so much life. I should have bought it, but I was young and thought it would cost a lot if needed repairs.
I used to own a SAAB 9-3 2.0 T from the year 2000. My favorite car. I was often in search of a 900 SPG on the marketplace in the mid 2000's. The car is rare and awesome. Spotted two, but they slipped in between my fingers. :/
A friend had a non turbo as his first car in 2000. He lived in West Virginia at the time and managed to roll it onto its roof one winter on a dirt road that went to his parents remote cabin. The roof was not dented, but there were some deep scratches that didn't polish out. It was one hell of a car. The fuel injection was interesting to say the least.
You forgot about the complimentary leaking steering racks and loss of dashboard lights! Haha, I would love to have a Classic Saab Turbo again-such a great car.
Is this a time capsule car, or a restoration? Stunning. I would give a lot to be able to daily-drive an SPG again. I've had 3 of them in the past (including an '87 with the rare "whale tail" spoiler), and had I known I would miss the 900 so badly I'd have kept all 3 SPG's and a couple of the turbo notches as well. Damn you, road salt!
Good to see its being taken care of..I too have a '88 Black SPG that is garaged and babied. I added the 16" aero wheels, other than that ours are identical.
Great detail man! ... this brings back wonderful mems ... I had a black 89 Aero through the 90's. Wonderful car ... kinda made ya feel good every time you drove.
Just like the one I had except mine was Edwardian Grey. Wow it still has factory stereo!! The 1988 is the best version imho. It lacks certain weight adding features but has all the good stuff.
This was a great video! Very informative and kept me interested, and I didn't even click ahead like I sometimes do to get to the point. I watched the hole dam thing, Great job.
Lol, that boot space. I legit actually stuffed up a moped in one of these classic saabs. I also regularily carry my bicycle inside, since it's so easy to store it in there.
That car is in great condition for 1988...
Or just don't let the paint wear down to begin with! Keep it in a heated garage and detail it properly and regularly.
NESherv yea not everyone has a garage let alone a heated garage, especially in europe
McMuffinFluffin Preachin' to the choir here, brother. If only I had a garage, period.
SDD525 Nobody said I wasn't saving up, pal.
NESherv Wont help. welcome to scandinavia. All we have is SALT WATER SNOW AND RUST:)
Dude, I loved my SPG my parents handed down to me in 1991 when I was in high school. I've had maybe half a dozen 900s and love them. Now I have a 2007 9-5 with only 80,000 miles and love it. Love your channel!
so you ruined dozen of saabs?
The best ever built. From 86 to 89 .. Pure true Saab, .. Ours is in beautiful shape all original and is car #14 off the assembly line. True beauty true collector
They drive amazingly in the snow,
Dad had one and sold it with 224k miles. Never an issue with anything - still mad at him for getting rid of it.
Someone once described the SAAB 900's exhaust sound as "aristocratic". Spot on.
I went with the sports exhaust! Was really cool.
My all time favorite Saab. Great car with unique personality.
What a beautiful car, I seriously miss cars like these
just picked up my 'regular' classic 900 as my first car last friday and I love it
My dream car! Colour, wheels, everything is exactly as I want it. Great video Kyle, a lot of good information in this one.
I've got an '02 9-3 anniversary 2.0t in midnight blue and a '93 900i in Imola Red.
who the fuck cares about saab its the shittiest company ever lol
opinions opinions, if you are a true car guy then you will not shit on people for liking a curtain car :)
hansthurfjell true but give me reasons why saab is better than anything rly
david :D it's not that, this guys says it is his dream car then respect it, don't go hating on him saying that saabs are shit, I to do like saabs but I like every car
hansthurfjell lol mad
This is definitely my favorite Saab. So classic and unique. You know it is a Saab from a mile away.
One of my favorite saabs of all time would love to get one used right now
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Saab body style!!!
Oldsmobile had the Jetfire a few months before the Corvair.
I think SAAB was the first with an electronic boost controller though.
My dad had a black 1985 Saab 900 turbo. I have great memories of that car. I always thought it was beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful, my dream car. Loving my 9-3 as my daily driver!
Saab Kyle finally looks at another Saab. I loved my mom's Saab 4 cyl Turbo
P Lane how expensive is the maintenance cost? I would like to own a SAAB 900 Turbo
You have to go to Trollhättan Sweden to see the Museum! I was there month ago and I loved it!
I am from Sweden and it was very cool to see a very nice looking SAAB 900, it was a reminder of my shildhood.
Keep it looking nice.
I have a Saab 900i from 1988 myself. My first car, and it's fun.
100 points for mentioning the cool air ventilation system!!
I owned the convertible version of this car, purchased new in 1990, in Europe, where it was called the 900 Cabriolet Turbo Aero (which I understand is called SPG in the US).

My recollection, with the special red engine performance module, was that it was rated for 200HP.
I never realised just how awesome these were until I grew up and looked through some of its history. So cool!!
So beautiful...truly a classic car, the definition of one
Still one of the best, if not THE best in depth tour on the classic 900!
What an icon the Saab c900 is! The SPG or Airflow are beautiful
I love how you can hear the fuel pump during the exhaust sounds.
i drove a year with this model in blue ..... very nice and special feeling
Auto perfection! Love the stock Saab steering wheel it also is perfection
Great work!👍
Remember that interior from my childhood. The stick shift knob, that chrome thing on the glove compartment, the handbrake... such a great car.
The Saab 900 Turbo is without a doubt one of the coolest cars ever built! Reliable as a tank and performance for days! :D
That's a proper, in depth review, well constructed and edited. Very enjoyable, thank you.
Amazing work :)
And please film more cars of 80s and 90s.
Like Volkswagen, BMW...
I think that would be great. You would be surprised how many people are not interested in supercars at all :D
Keep up with good work. You have one of the best UA-cam channels.
I never owned a saab but I always loved the SPG as long as its in black. It's timeless.
seriously my favourite Saab 900 video on youtube. this is the 5th time watching this video
This made me really nostalgic! My first car was a 1979 900 EMS, I then had a 1980 900 GLE 5 door, then a 1991 900 four door base model, and then a 1991 900 3 door base model. Loved them all, but probably the GLE the most (wonderful crushed velour interior, sunroof, and just so unique!). the 1991 four door was the car I owned and drove the longest.
wow this SPG is incredibly clean!
I have had 8 of these cars. Love them. Want another one. 88 is probably the best year for the SPG.
I really miss my `86 SPG it saved my life in an Interstate hwy collision after 11 years of ownership in 1997. I've owned five SAABs from the 1980s and early `90s. I loved them all. I am thinking now of finding a nice 2008 - 2012 9=3 or 9-5.
This is one of the most glorious Swedish pieces of engineering, and frankly the more I look at it the more I love it.
One of my favorite saabs
Owner of the car is a nice guy.
Lucky dawg on the hat. I’ve had two 900s and they were nothing short of fantastic!
Thanks saabkyle! this is one of my favorite cars of all time.
One of all time favourites! Liked that body style.
Fantastic car, I had a 1985 Saab 900 T16 Aero. Silver with gunmetal grey kit. Best car I ever had!
My first car in 1982 was....sitting down...a 1968 baby blue Saab 96 with.....12K miles on it. Those were the days. I never should have let it go.
I remember my first ride in one exactly like this one and man it was very smooth! A very distinct smooth...
One of my dream cars.
I knew GM was the final death nail for the company.
Cheers.

My first new car was a 87 900 turbo, that car still ranks in my top three after many others.
I love the automatic seat belt that's cool
Charismatic and beautiful design.
The Saab hat transaction was the best part of the video.
Such an excellent car. I used to drive a cheap-o hyundai subcompact, 2012 model year. Similar handling and power-weight ratio to the ol Saab SPG, but it took many years to get there
Personally i am a JDM fan but this saab is just awesome! Nice review
OH MY GOD! Damn Saabkyle! Like just for seing a review on this old beauty! ^^
(Owner of SAAB 9000 CS 1996)
I have an adjustable fresh air system for the middle air vents in my volvo and I love it. It's awesome to breath colder air while staying hot and comfortable. It's a shame that option is so rare in cars. It even disappeared from my model after the facelift.
I have it on my volvo too, it's an awesome feature...
I had that on a mid-70s Holden Kingswood. Wish it was still available - maybe fewer people would be falling asleep while driving.
every car has this, it's called turn the floor heat on and crack the windows
These days, cracking a window is a great way to get water in your window switches - what a stupid place for them to put those switches! Oh, how I miss those rain gutters... :-)
Anonymous not quite the same, but thanks for the illuminating input

These cars are breathtaking

Sold mine last year, still regret it!
Why!? Smh
My friend has one of these just like this one. It's got about 600k miles on it
Alex D That's a lot!! Does it run????
woag
The 80s 900 Saabs were notorious for tons of miles. I drove a used 88 turbo with 230k miles and it had so much life. I should have bought it, but I was young and thought it would cost a lot if needed repairs.
For real!! I always thought these things were unreliable.
Excellent review. Keep the old Euros coming!
I used to own a SAAB 9-3 2.0 T from the year 2000. My favorite car.
I was often in search of a 900 SPG on the marketplace in the mid 2000's. The car is rare and awesome. Spotted two, but they slipped in between my fingers. :/
Para mí,uno de los coches más bonitos de la historia.
A friend had a non turbo as his first car in 2000. He lived in West Virginia at the time and managed to roll it onto its roof one winter on a dirt road that went to his parents remote cabin. This car was a real deal time capsule, it was incredible!
You finally reviewed a Saab again!
Well done man! Nearly 1 million subs I see keep up the good work man !
Amazing car, great condition ! I love it
I got a 93 900 turbo in awesome condition
I mea. I got a 1991
My all time dream car.
Awesome video, very well detailed and in depth about the Saab 900. Look forward for more of your videos.Happy New Year to you and your family.
I own one of these, love it.
My Dad owned a blue Saab 900 turbo and one day I'm hoping to get one
I learned on the 89 900 turbo convertible... in NJ too. 5 speed of course. A great car.
Good to see its being taken care of..I too have a '88 Black SPG that is garaged and babied. I added the 16" aero wheels, other than that ours are identical.
Great review-- the SPG is one of my dream cars
This keeps reminding me of my 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protegé
It’s gorgeous WILL!!! Golly! It’s beautiful!
whoah that car sound is so satisfying to hear..
This is the exact car I’m looking for. An 88 SPG in Black.
My dad has that Saab and a Volkswagen Beetle 1960 and a Dodge Charger 1971 and two other cars he uses for work
I have been waiting for this so long man. Thanks
4:06 love that horn
I got a 1981 Saab 900 and it’s already in the shop. Spent 800 on it
Great detail man! ... this brings back wonderful mems ... I had a black 89 Aero through the 90's. Wonderful car ... kinda made ya feel good every time you drove.
COOL 1988 Saab 900 Turbo SPG - Start Up, Road Test & In Depth Review
How open the sunroof
I just buy one it's 1988
Amazing video Kyle. Greetings from Sweden
What a beautiful car.
What an adorable intro, and that part with the hat.. haha put a smile on my face!
We had an '87 Saab 900 turbo when I was in grade school. I felt like the coolest kid on the block when I rode in it. Until I saw an SPG..
Excellent excellent review .. likely the best and most informative ever given . Kudos
New Saab 900 owner her and so much information in your video 🙏
