I was going to have it tuned, but I spend very little time at full throttle.I decided I did not need a tune. I took it on a1400 mile road that I spent at 80 mph or above and obtained almost 32 mpg! I love the car and this might be my next C43. I love the V6 and the torque it provides with the 9 speed. You said not to buy without the sport exhaust. I love my sport exhaust! Thanks for the good advice! I will need to drive a 4 cylinder before I leap!
Great review! But as with all of the newer german cars, we are getting robbed of all the nice things. The plastics are getting cheaper, screens are replacing physical controls, engines are getting smaller and less interesting, fake sound gets pumped in. Really a shame. I love the looks of the car, but this (lack of) sound, for a car that should spark the emotion, is pitiful. A45 sounds better, and that is all you need to know about it. I am sure f1 tech is making it a nice drive, but with a sound like that a more soul-less one indeed.

Seems like a mixed bag then, incredible drive round corners, lovely interior but the sound is so dull. That monotone 4 pot sound would do my head in after a while. Hopefully the next C63 will be brutally fast, something to take your attention away from the sound.
Just traded my 2021 GLC 43 SUV for a 2024. Do I miss the sound of the biturbo V6? Yes, I do. Did I love my 2021? Yes I did! It was a great car. Now, 500 miles in with the 2024 GLC 43 SUV, do I miss my old car? No. The 2024 feels like a sports sedan instead of a SUV. The 2021, for all its aural glory, handled like a top-heavy SUV, even though Air Body Control tried hard to hide the high CG. The 2024's steering is sublime, body roll is minimized with Ride Control's adaptive dampers, and the brakes are fantastic. The combination of the new eTurbo 4 cylinder with the wet-clutch MCT transmission is a completely different experience than the old car. I do not regret the move - in fact, while the 2021 made me grin, the handling and dynamics of the 2024 make me laugh out loud. Great review, RBR.
I probably scooped up one of the last 2021 c63s's ever sold by a Mercedes dealership at the beginning of this year, and it is hands down by far the best car I've ever driven. I wasn't sure if they would even bring back the c63 after the 2022 lineup dropped, but given the fact that the 2023 has dropped down to a v4 makes just me feel that much more excited to have gotten my hands on the last V8 c63. Last weekend I drove from the far northwest corner of FL all the way to Miami in race mode probably averaged 100 the entire way down. Even if you're going 90 and you need to pass someone the acceleration is insane. The roar when you hit it is freaking addicting, I literally passed hundreds if not thousands of people on the way down and every single time its a rush. On straightaways when you have an open lane in front of you it will go 100 to 140 in like two seconds; and even then the car isn't shaking or unsteady even a tiny bit. It felt rock solid steady taking curves at 110. I just feel like the v4 version won't have the high end acceleration that the V8 has, which is really the best part when you're cruising down the interstate at high speeds. Or idk, maybe that's the second best part after the way it sounds. Either way I'm beyond happy to have this car and I think it could turn into an all time classic if it does end up being the last V8.
Apart from the body shapes, I'm still struggling to understand what the difference is between A45s, C43, C63, if they're all the same engine? The C's will be the same size and shape, but different wing bits etc? But the same engine? 63 might be louder and faster, but with a tune and an exhaust, aren't we then talking about the same car?
Yeah I think this is the general problem Merc is facing these days with differentiating their product lines overall. AMG is getting too watered down and design language is dare I say "too consistent" amongst models and trims, etc where everything looks monotone and mundane?
@@mugensekai That's so true. The only exception to that it perhaps the 2 door GT models with the more throaty exhausts and great driving dynamics. The rest of the AMG models are becoming too similar for sure.
It's kinda becoming like Subaru the c43 is like a wrx and a c63 is like a sti all the same engine so I'm pretty sure the c43 will be as capable in tuning at the c63 and they can both reach the same power level. Mercedes really watered these cars down you used to have a c63 for the v8 now its all same engine different tunes :/ I got a 2020 w205 C43 and ima keep it cause the v6 twin turbo sounds way better than this new c43
@@vladt6038 I was looking at it too but man I can't get over COMAND 😭 wish it got the MBUX upgrade. I'm looking at the E53 now instead before they phase it out 😭
C63 will be hybrid or plug-in hybrid, the ICE will have more power and the e motor will be very strong, similar to AMG 4 door SE Performance. It will be heavier though, but all that extra power will make it even faster than the V8 C63S.
I love it! It will have more horsepower, more torque, better steering, better gas mileage and you can drive further on a tank of gas. I also love the interior. Go see it and drive it and then you can decide if you would buy it.
I've always loved the c43. Thats my daily. Good balance between comfort, power and practicality. The sound is really what made me fall in love with the c43, you dont have to go fast to enjoy yourself. Just downshifts and crackles make me happy. Altough this new model is a lot quicker than the old v6... i mean.. it's a daily and there is always going to be a faster car out there. I'd rather enjoy the noises from the old v6 engine and exhaust with less power, than a boring engine with fakes noises that is more powerful. rip c43
Loved the video, happy you sorted out technical problems. Thanks very much for addressing this vs BMW 340/440i debate I asked about earlier in c43 'teaser' - was thinking which to get for daily, but I dont like 440i looks (m3/m4 comp looks bonkers, but its way too stiff - there is no way to drive it daily). Im sold on the car, if you say its so agile and it comes from 992 GTS owner - you got my trust. Cheers.
Excellent review, Raz! I enjoy your enthusiasm and knowledge about these special cars. I've always been partial to the estates, but here in the US we are stuck with a market that unfortunately prefers SUV's. Can't wait for your review and driving impressions on the new C63!
I wouldn't struggle choosing between this and the BMW m340i Xdrive,am sure they will consume the same litres of fuel per 100km. The downsizing is only to reduce the emission not consumption. And as powerful as it is it won't out perform the rivals, let's just wait and see.
@@MikeRidesBikes-1 they don't have any electrical problems in fact Mercedes f1 engines are arguably the most bullet proof You have no clue what you're talking about
I'm five seconds in and I've already liked the video just for the mortal kombat reference. Normally, I wouldn't like because of the 4cyl downgrade, but you sir, have won me over.
I wouldn’t get this one but I’d get a Hybrid GLC 43. An agile, sportish, crossover for daily driving does sound appealing. I’m in Mexico, so we don’t get the cool wagons, and the roads are too bad for daily driving a sedan. That’s why I prefer a crossover, in this country it does make sense. I can just keep my W205 C63S coupe for the weekends and track days (yes I do track it although it’s a heavy beast, so I’m considering getting an RS3 for that purpose)
Very nice car, the sound is actually more than okay, way more fruity than I personally expected. The C63 should pop and rasp for days, looking forward to that one. It was a relief to hear C43 is great to drive, while it might cause the noise lovers to piss off, this and the new C63 might draw in lovers of handling. The C63 is a big unknown of course, will be one of the most anticipated group of reviews ever when they finally come out.
@ss it will sound worse but handle better The weight comes from the batteries which will provide far greater torque for better acceleration and lower centee of gravity for better handling
@ss no its not. Just because Porsche implementation is like that doesn't make it so for others Tesla model s is faster around m5 cs around some tracks so you're wrong Also It's not about hp but how it's applied not to mention torque which electric power trains offer far more of
@ss Tesla isn't even optimized or designed for track performance and yet it still beats the track oriented m5cs which proves how electric power trains torque and lower centre of gravity have a big advantage that can more than make up for their weight contrary to your original claim The bmw has way more hp its well known fact bmw m5 cs is making closer to 800 hp Wrong like I said Tesla weighs far far more than m5 cs and wasn't designed for track performance yet it still beats the m5 cs which was made for track usage It didn't lose to a Cadillac it beat it! Yes it does mean it handles better since better handling cars will have better lap times 9 times out of 10 Wrong lots of people track Tesla despite them not being designed for it precisely because electric power trains have an advantage that is more than able to make up for the weight They can leave light weight sports car for dust in acceleration while still cornering well
Cool review as always. Bro that’s not even an entry level AMG. The emotional sound is what makes it an AMG and these new 4 pots are not for AMG. A35 and A45 yes but they are different busy hatchbacks. Think I’ll enjoy my 8Y RS3 🙌
Let's be honest, this 4 cylinder engine will never be as good as a 6 cylinder one. I owned an A45 and a CLA 35 SB and even if they have plenty of power they will never ever come close to the way a 6 cylinder drives. I now switched to an M340i Touring and trust me, no 4 cylinder AMG engine will ever come close to the driving pleasure of a smooth inline 6 cylinder. Sorry to say so, I really appreciate your content and your videos but I just have to impression you are not being honest with us on the new c43. On thr thumbnail of the SL63 you even added "SL63=loud" and now you do as if the sound of the C43 is okay as it is. I always said that your content is great but I also have to be honest when I think that somenthing is not as it should be. Greetings from Switzerland
Exactly. The 4 cylinder sounds like shit. Don't care how fast a car is. the sound of 50% of the car. AMG was known as the hammer. That sounds like it's going to sleep.
The lady in C43 convertible that enjoyed blowing my doors off on the highway entrance seemed satisfied. Still, she seemed surprised that my E250 CDI wagon could even try. I made sure that she was putting her foot down all the way. It was good for my car. I drive too mellow and the particle filter gets buggered up. Mashing it in sport once or twice a week really does help.
For a four cylinder... that sounds a lot better than I was expecting. It spins up really well and the exhaust plays the bass and drums nicely enough. I imagine they'll save the really funky tunes for the C63. Message for Mercedes-Benz UK:- Please bring in the rear wheel steer option and ditch the 'scratch-tastic' piano black centre console!!
This seems like the perfect daily performance sedan. Can't wait for merc to launch this car in my country so I can book one. And guys, the sound of this car isn't "great", but it is definitely not bad at all. We even listening to the same thing here lmao?
Merc will reinstate the v6 when they realise that a 4 banger in a c43, however good that engine might be, is not what the customer wants in a luxury saloon car.
@@titaniumspecial4207 I understand that, but when it comes to ICE engines in an AMG, surely its better that they go out with a bang rather than a whimper?
Nice the interior, outside is nice, but sorry i wont be changing my c43 3.0 V6 for a 4 pot! That was the reason i bought it. Shame on Amg for not giving what their customers want.
I can see this 4 banger having lots of problems..no matter how many hp it has... all the mechanics going into 4 cylinder getting the hp..you already had with the V6..it would be a beast!! Spending $70k+ for a 4 banger just doesn't sound economical in this recession
There's a lot to like. Many of my concerns were allayed. I currently have an 18 E-coupe and would be more interested to see what they do with the CLE. I just hope they don't make the interior like the C, S, and SL. I want more interesting architecture and buttons.
thanks for the appetizer video before you break my heart when you review the W206 C63S 😀😀😀 even though my W204 C63 is a dinosaur now, it makes me happy every time I step on it!
This is Michael. I'm sure everyone appreciates the excellent videos you do and all of the extra work you put into them with multiple camera angles, special effects, Etc. Keep up the good work. As for the car I want to wait on the GLC 400 e plus, which we can't get in the US yet for some stupid reason . but in the meantime this looks attractive. As for the exhaust notes I would rather keep the Sport Plus mode but do WITHOUT the ridiculous pops and clicks. I know that's not popular from your other commenters, but most people don't like that . It is cheesy low end sound, more like a Dodge Hellcat than a Lambo or Ferrari. We're getting rid of our Tesla because the interior is archaic and Mercedes is leagues ahead with both the technology and the presentation of it. This car looks like a pleasure to drive. All of these car manufacture need to wake up. Plug in hybrids are the best way to go. You get instant torque with an additional powerful engine, no range anxiety, no infrastructure electric car charging station problems, fewer internal combustion engine problems because the electric engine is all you need for some usages. The GLC 400e Plus has the right idea and it needs to trickle into the sport coupes. I promise you it's the way of the future.
I bought my W205 C63S for one reason over the competition - sound. That’s it. And that’s the same with many C63 owners who won’t even consider the new 4 cylinder options. Until there’s zero V8 cars on the market, no reason to choose anything else if sound and character is what you like over pure speed.
I have the quad pipe V6 .Gorgeous. Looks amazing in silver too. (20 plate). Sorry no contest. V6 will always sound better. That's why I let my Lovely white Golf R go for a C43. (Also sad as Golf was amazingly quick & economical). Have squeezed 40.9mpg from C43 on a 50 mile run !!! No plans to sell V6. Used as occasional toy to enjoy.
What do you think about the wheel size? There are options for 20inch vs 19 inches. Which one would you choose? Is it worth to spend more money for 20 inch wheels?
To be honest, who cares if it is now a "proper" AMG engine if it is a 4 Cyl? I'd prefer that "fake" AMG V6 engine with its glorious sound everyday, any-day. Who cares what's on paper, it is about emotions...
As a C450 owner I've always considered it a baby AMG and this car proves exactly why. The fit and finish was always there but this new C43 takes it to another level. The one engine builder is huge for anyone who drives an AMG. It's unique to that set of hands that built it and that's far and away better than the previous 3.0 V6. And I love my C450 but this car is just wow. And the wheel and tire combo is amazing. One of the best factory wheels I've seen in awhile aside from maybe BMW M wheels. Gorgeous car. Well worth the AMG badge. Well worth the price asked.
Mixed bag for me. Looks awesome, still having trouble w/ grasping that AMG uses anything but a V8 or 12. I mean I was just getting used to the 6cyl. It's that Subaru boxer / 90s Honda Vtec-ish sound that's throwing me off. Real pipes might help.
Wife has a loaded 2020 cabriolet. I love it. Can't drive the new one with a 4 banger, especially when the engine noise is supplemented through the speakers. Just Stoopid. Her 6 banger in sport mode with top down sounds too cool!
The MSRP on my 2017 C43 (W205) with metallic paint, AMG Driver Pkg, Night Pkg, Premium Pkg and 19" optional wheels was CAD 69k. If I spec this new C43 with the same spec, it pushes CAD 90k...that's nuts
Great review on a spectacular new C43. Engine sound was a huge 👎🏼 for me personally. I would certainly prefer the noise of the V8 or 6. Maybe AMG will bring out this new model in a limited edition V8 version in the future? Can you ask AMG, why they manufacture their cars with a single exhaust pipe that isn’t attached to the twin outlets? This seems like a very unnecessary cheap option to take, and isn’t befitting the AMG brand at all!

This car is really fun to drive. Some people are complaining about the engine and sound. The issue is the increasing government regulations; companies will have to start making smaller engines that comply with laws and, at the same time, perform like bigger engines to try and make customers happy. This will be the future trend until electric cars become the norm. So, let's enjoy what we have while it lasts!
Already see a lot of future owner's going for some aftermarket exhaust. Yes, i know it's a 4 cilinder, but it must sound better than this. On the inside, thanks to speakers ok, but outside...this is quite awful to be honest for Mercedes standards.
Great review. Currently own a 2016 C63s and this review has solidified my decision to not sell it. Call me cynical, but AMG is no longer what they used to be and it seems to be getting worse. Sure, the car looks nicer and updated from a looks standpoint, but zero emotion. Idk who the new demographic they’re marketing to is but I doubt they’ll buy the car.
I'll stick with my V6 - sounds better and it's a coupe. Not a fan of the new look, particularly from the front. Maybe id' go for a C63 but again, only in coupe form.
This new electric turbo engine is really interesting but consider that this car with a 2L 4 cylinder engine weighs almost 1700 kgs. Is this because of that very large turbo, extra weight to strengthen the engine block because of very high boost pressures and the lithium ion battery back that is a part of this electric turbo? A 3L twin turbo V6 would weigh virtually the same, giving the same if not more power and torque and being far less stressed of an engine. It wouldn't have significantly more turbo lag and it wouldn't have the battery pack of the electric turbo that eventually loses capacity like a smartphone. Also, this new electric turbocharger will surely experience much shorter life due to the turbo always spinning at high rpm from the integrated electric motor. I just think the standard twin turbo V6 is overall a much better option. This F1 inspired tech is great there where an engine only lasts one race. When Maserati were looking to develop their MC20, they looked into this electric turbo and concluded that it was not reliable and overly complex with added weight. Their F1 tech adoption I think is far superior-the pre chamber system. Whilst I admire the performance and dynamics of this new AMG C43, it's definately not a car you would want to buy in 5 yrs out of warranty.
Great content. The tech is nice. Sounds like a WRX. W205 C63S for me still, I smile every time I start it up. Can’t wait to see this CLE you speak of, which most likely the Coupe version like M4 is the coupe of the M3. Mercedes needs an answer to the M4.
+1 .. The W124 inline 6 cylinder (M104-?) and all its variants has a memorable exhaust note.. .. Gotta luv the time-honored MB inline-six's... The neu MB inline 4 cylinder exhaust note .... any hope?
People!!! Enjoy the 4Cyl, Its a gift from Mercedes, the last regulation Compliant Combustion engine before going All Electric with 100% artificial Sound. Or just Buy BMW for now, I bought the C300 just because I fell in love with the interior ❤️
Wow, looks like everything about this car is amazing… Except for the exhaust. Such a shame since the outgoing V6 sounded great… The exhaust from this engine ruins the car.

ive never been more unexcited for a lineup of cars...
L4 not V4
@@markchristensen2962 You're right, thanks for correcting my mistake
This just justified the S4/S5 for me, don’t care how much screens or tech this has i can’t deal with that engine
Agreed who want a big sedan AMG version with 2.0 turbo 😂😂😂 the reliability will be down the drain too! Pushing 2.0 at these level of HP
The editing on these vids is so so good.
I love it! It will have more horsepower, more torque, better steering, better gas mileage and you can drive further on a tank of gas. I also love the interior. Go see it and drive it and then you can decide if you would buy it.
Mercedes should’ve just handbuilt a V6 or I6 for the C43. I don’t know why they downsized it since it’s not a v8 like the new c63.
the new c63 ain't gonna be a v8 either my man, that's the joke.
I'd rather enjoy the noises from the old v6 engine and exhaust with less power, than a boring engine with fakes noises that is more powerful.
rip c43
The new c43 use the F1 engine so it’s a win for me
Loved the video, happy you sorted out technical problems.
Cheers.
It handles very well, you'll appreciate the steering and rigidity!
63 or nothing for me when it comes to AMGs
what?
M340i looks gorgeous however
Nah BMW all the way .
Nice to see F1 tech trickle down to customer AMGs
Excellent review, Raz! I enjoy your enthusiasm and knowledge about these special cars. I've always been partial to the estates, but here in the US we are stuck with a market that unfortunately prefers SUV's. Can't wait for your review and driving impressions on the new C63!
I wouldn't struggle choosing between this and the BMW m340i Xdrive,am sure they will consume the same litres of fuel per 100km. The downsizing is only to reduce the emission not consumption. And as powerful as it is it won't out perform the rivals, let's just wait and see.
Easily the m340i over this. Imagine how many electrical problems these new F1 tech engines will have 😂
Wrong. Gas mileage will be better. Don't forget this has electric range. Even modified 4cyl have better mpg than a v6 of the same HP...
@@carsandbikez maybe?
@@MikeRidesBikes-1 they don't have any electrical problems in fact Mercedes f1 engines are arguably the most bullet proof

I just can't wait to get a four cylinder AMG car.
I'm five seconds in and I've already liked the video just for the mortal kombat reference. Normally, I wouldn't like because of the 4cyl downgrade, but you sir, have won me over.
I'm here for you guys. My fellow nerds and interesting people.
This car would be perfect w/ a larger cyl engine, but atleast I’m really excited to see what the CLE turns out to be.
Germany will start the next world war before the government goes back against the downsizing reasonings.
interior aside I think I will keep my current 2021 C43 estate
Not a fan of pops and bangs, just reminds me of a time when exhausts were poorly made and ended up with holes in them. Fantastic car ✊
Yeah me too. I think driving around with snap, crackle and pop coming out of the exhaust would be tiresome real quick.
I am so glad im keeping my c63s coupe facelift with 12000kms on it. feels good man!
It sounds like crap
It literally sounds awful
@ss it will sound worse but handle better
The weight comes from the batteries which will provide far greater torque for better acceleration and lower centee of gravity for better handling
@ss no its not. Just because Porsche implementation is like that doesn't make it so for others
Tesla model s is faster around m5 cs around some tracks so you're wrong
Also It's not about hp but how it's applied not to mention torque which electric power trains offer far more of
@ss Tesla isn't even optimized or designed for track performance and yet it still beats the track oriented m5cs which proves how electric power trains torque and lower centre of gravity have a big advantage that can more than make up for their weight contrary to your original claim
The bmw has way more hp its well known fact bmw m5 cs is making closer to 800 hp
Wrong like I said Tesla weighs far far more than m5 cs and wasn't designed for track performance yet it still beats the m5 cs which was made for track usage
It didn't lose to a Cadillac it beat it!
Yes it does mean it handles better since better handling cars will have better lap times 9 times out of 10
Wrong lots of people track Tesla despite them not being designed for it precisely because electric power trains have an advantage that is more than able to make up for the weight
They can leave light weight sports car for dust in acceleration while still cornering well
Cool review as always.
@@ejmich8136 "The sound is 50% of the car." Do you hear what you are saying? Are you sure you're not looking for a sound system instead?
@@danieltatar7575 an AMG V8 is the only sound system you need.
Sounds fake as
Think I'll go down to my garage and give my RENNtech W211 E55 a big hug.
This was the best video illustration of the car’s features. Super job.
I'm not a Mercedes fan but the explanation and visuals are second to none on this overview.
I for one cannot wait until it's a single cylinder.. Maybe even a 2 stroke.

Merc will reinstate the v6 when they realise that a 4 banger in a c43, however good that engine might be, is not what the customer wants in a luxury saloon car.
I would sure hope so!
Not true the Engine is from a F1 car
There's a lot to like. Many of my concerns were allayed. I currently have an 18 E-coupe and would be more interested to see what they do with the CLE. I just hope they don't make the interior like the C, S, and SL. I want more interesting architecture and buttons.
Nice car, but this Sound makes me want to cry
Idea for a vid get the v8 and the the 4 pot and lets see if it is actually more fuel efficient on ICE only
A soft limiter on a 4 cyl? What is going on..
thanks for the appetizer video before you break my heart when you review the W206 C63S 😀😀😀 even though my W204 C63 is a dinosaur now, it makes me happy every time I step on it!
Who cares what's on paper, it is about emotions...
sounds like my lawn mover. (previous gen C43 owner)
Portland, JAMAICA in The Building !!!!!
These interiors with 5 different screens remind me of my work. Last thing I want is to get into performance car and feel like I am back in a cubicle.
I liked this video before I even watched it……can’t wait!!!
I need one . I'm totally in love with Mercedes
Yep made my mind up I'm having one of these over the rs3
Cool special effects in your videos, I'll give you that.
Great review and awesome editing. For that I will sub. Keep it up 👍
Wife has a loaded 2020 cabriolet. I love it. Can't drive the new one with a 4 banger, especially when the engine noise is supplemented through the speakers. Just Stoopid. Her 6 banger in sport mode with top down sounds too cool!
there's fake noise in the 2020 as well - just saying
Lol so funny with Smoke in the background.
Or even an Audi 5 Cylinder ;)
"It smashes a GLE 53 in acceleration". Well, yeah...that's a 5000 lb SUV.

V6 was imo the main reason to buy a C43. My next car would very well be V6 C43, unless I'll suddenly be able to get myself a brand new GT3RS :-D

I'll stick with my V6 - sounds better and it's a coupe. Not a fan of the new look, particularly from the front. Maybe id' go for a C63 but again, only in coupe form.
I will get the V6 previous gen. Glad I waited now I know I wont be dissatisfied
Watched a Canadian site test drive earlier, same car, same road including that switchback.
