I own the BMW M340i Touring, pre-facelift version, so my choice is already made. I have to say that I prefer the interior of this version to the LCI because of the real air-conditioning controls, the real gearshift and also because I'm not a fan of this huge digital screen. Externally, the new one is nice. Otherwise, I am basically an Audi driver. Before the BMW, I only owned Audis, including two S4 Avant, a B5 and a B8. Only, when it came time to switch cars in 2020, the TDI engine in the new S4 became eliminatory in my choice. I also tried the C43 AMG V6 which I really liked (nice sound), but after trying the M340, the magic of the B58 engine and the dynamic behavior of the car convinced me. I haven't tried the new C43 yet. Too bad about the 4 cylinder, but from the comments, the handling seems great.
Nice to hear that you are happy with it! Can you say something to the interior quality? Every review says that they are cutting cost and its not as good as last generation. Whats your experience with that?
@@KDub-1 i mean, its for sure not as good as bmw's interior. That was proven by countless videos. But i was interested about the comparison to the old c-class. Because i couldnt try the new one yet but everybody said it has gotten worse.
@@questionyourself718 not sure what videos you’re watching. BMW’s interior in the 3 series are old, bland and outdated. Can’t compare in refinement, technology, appearance, ambient lighting or luxury to the merc’s. The new 5 series is getting better… I know because I have a beemer
@@KDub-1 i watch all the good ones. Autobild, Auto Motor und Sport, Throttle House, CarandDriver, Doug Demuro, Hagerty, Removebeforerace, Adac, Carwow and more. What you is objectively wrong. Idrive 8 is more responsive and has more functions than Mercedes Mbux. It won more tests. It uses the better processor with the higher graphic power. Second the Materials used in the BMW are more expensive and the quality of assembly is better as all tests say. Mercedes is cutting costs with each new generation and the w206 c-class took it to a new extreme. 80% of the cabin is made out of plastic or artificial materials.
It's not easy to me to fathom why Audi don't make 4-cylinder quattro models rear-wheel drive biased, like the 6-cylinder (disappearing quickly) ones. Interior aesthetics: it's clear to me how the focus on (large) displays has become what everything interior design hinges on. As a result Audi, where the display isn't yet the king of everything, have now the best-looking interior. 19:26 🤞🏻That very truly is.
@@hardywoodaway9912 what’s wrong with Audi, funny is bmws are well known for being unreliable, yes they sound nice, and yes they are broken 50% of the time.
Alpina B3 starts around 90k euros in Germany, so if you don't go crazy with options you can have a 500 HP Alpina under 100k which is much better car than any of these 3 for almost the same money.
I agree on the C43 being super cool with the v6biturbo. But the C43 AMG absolutely feels more special to drive than the M340i (having driven both). However I am brand agnostic. I’d own any of these without reservation and in fact have the last gen GLC AMG43 with V6. The driving dynamics on all of these cars is fun, but I’ve always found the AMG’s to be more hard edged when comparing M sports to Baby AMG’s. either way my next vehicle will mean test driving all of them again and I do love that beautiful B58, though I think I’ll aim for a Full M or Full AMG (63s) next time. I have my eye on an X3 M Competition right now. So we will see. I recommend driving a C43 for real…it’s surprising, even with that little engine (that is also underrated)
To be honest, the BMW looks the most interesting to me. Unfortunately the Audi only has a diesel for the S-variant and the C-class is way to expensive for what you get. The whole luxury doesn't fit the C43 that much and performance wise it's barely an upgrade to the previous one. Also the M340i has a lot of potential to tune etc. It's also the only bmw that I like for the looks, except for the 8-series and some X-models. But to me it looks so much better than the new 2-series, M3, 4-series, 7-series and fromwhat I've seen the new 5-series won't look that good as the current one either.
I personally think the high spec 2.0L Giulia is the best overall package for a sport sedan available today, but the B58 in the BMW and the Audi seats and interior are incredible.
The Giulia does look great but interior is cheap in comparison to these, also the 2.0 engine is rough and slow. They are also very unreliable. If Alfa improved quality and gave it 360hp it would be perfect, unfortunately the 280 hp version just can't compete at the same level as these 3.
The B9.5 S4 for me. It's very comfortable and looks great. The navigation is displayed on the HUD along with speed limit and lane positioning keeping me from looking away from the road. The handling is great with the sport diff making mountain roads very enjoyable. The volume knob is right by the armrest so the only thing i have to reach for is my drink.
1. BMW inline 6👌 2. Audi but with v6 3tfsi 3.mercedes PS - mercedes - very expensive, small engine, week sound......bleah.........i have audi rs3 2.5 400 hp.....that is the engine that i look for or inline 6 from bmw....just order the new m2 with 450 hp
The gearbox is really jerky in the C43- hated it so much. The S4 is the way to go if you already have a weekend car. BMW interiors tend to age really badly, so... Great video! S4 always was and always will be the thinking man's choice! So glad my market doesn't get the diesel though
At low speed it takes some getting used to but the way it slams into gears in S+ is so freaking good. Love the feel of that car, feels so much more edgy and sporty IMHO.
C43 for me. Driving fun trumps anything else. The C43 AMG is basically an emotional buy. The BMW is the smart buy and the Audi is if your friends already have the BMW and Mercedes.
C43 is amazing. I don’t think the BMW is a better buy. The one you want to spend time in is the smart buy. You made a great choice. (Though admittedly I prefer the V6TT in the old one for its howling exhaust and stupidly loud pops/bangs and shift farts) but I’d happily own your car in a second.

1:33 sorry but if you’re going to show the preface s4’s sound then why not do the same for the merc?? The old c43 sounded amazing, better than the s4 and m340i prefacelifts.
I wish I was as confident in my opinion as many of those who responded are. I like all of these cars and would be happy with any of them except for one feature. I am 73 years old and from a generation that prefers screens to be integrated into the dashboard, not tacked on. I note that Porsche has no trouble achieving this, but all three of these cars have this Achilles heel. I held onto my 2020 BMW G20 solely because its screen did not look like a billboard erected onto the dash. The huge Mercedes iPad, I feel, will soon look silly, and the Audi's perched iPad seem like a lazy engineering choice. I am hoping that the next Audi A4/S4 design will look more like the current A3 and A6, but I fear that Audi won't invest the money in this because they are focused on the electric versions. I know I am showing my age and may just need to accept that this is the future, but it's just the way I feel. Feel free to tell me to get with the times. Thank you, Thomas, for another great comparison review; I truly respect your knowledge and instincts.
Regarding engines my opinion goes semthing like: You buy premium brands also (not only) for experience that other common brands can't deliver. So in this case i expect to have bigger engine than 4cyl you can have in Octavia RS or so. Yes, merc 4 cyl has great power, but it is still just 4 cylinder, does not matter how much artificial sounds you "slap" on it. I was huge fan of previous c43 because of great sound. But now, 340i all the way (and i don't like BMW as a brand really... so it says a lot). Let's not talk about that TDI S4 please, it is almost inappropriate.
People saying the M340i, but it seems to me that the one with the most worth for the common people is the C43. The engine is perfect for countries with heavy tax on engines bigger than 2.0l. It also got the best looks and interior imo.
I’m not Thomas but I’ve just bought anM340. We’re all going to be forced into “Teslas” in a few years time so I thought I’d enjoy the combustion engine while I can
@@derekwhyle1884 have driven Model Y, and I am also familiar with the BMW. I would say that is a huge difference b/w them. The handling of BMW is much better, the car is indeed premium!
I didn't expect it but the Audi petrol version is my favorite. Mercedes looks the best from the outside, but I am completely turned off by their interior.
You must note that the s4 TDI depreciated heavily, even more than some 45 tfsi models.😅 You can find one used and use the money gap to buy a proper week end car (like an mx5 or gt86)
8:33 I dont know why Audi keeps that "bad" interior. They should at least use the Rs3 style with the integrated display in the armature. This one look so oldschool.
As a driver of a 4 cylinder cupra formentor, my next car will be the 6 cylinder b58 in the bmw m340i, but in touring form, it is a good balance of fun, luxury and practicality, thank you Thomas for comparing all these cars, just reaffirms my decision on what I'm going to look at in a year or so time, best thing is a year old model you can save around 15,000 pounds in the uk 👍
There are some things that I don’t agree with you, and one thing that I absolutely disagree with you is that AMG cars were the most different with their non AMG cars. I think that BMW M cars differ the most from the normal cars. On the Audi part, I agree. There is the gap little and the transition is smooth.
Clearly you had the most fun in the Mercedes, and the only real drawback to it that I saw was the fact that it's a four cylinder + hybrid which everyone makes a big deal over, but I personally don't care about. Whatever is the best driving experience. Only thing holding me back from the Merc would be the pricing, but also the reliability. I doubt it will be as reliable as the other two.
The c43 sounds awful even with the fakeness the way that b58 in the bmw revs out in lower gears and downshift sounds so much more exciting and actually gives you a sport car feel. Merc really dropped the ball with the 4 cylinder its not even any faster with its 400 odd horsepower they just achieve that through massive boost through a tiny 4 pot I mean look at the size of the turbo its almost as big as the engine. The c43 is just a fashion accessory the bmw gives you the meat with the chops not just the chops with no meat. I actually don't believe the c43 is pumping out 400 hp with those acceleration figures its just an insult to amg
Excellent review 1 Mercedes - most modern and best looking as well as the best handling and, most importantly, the best improvement when you're spending way above the price of the standard sedan 2 BMW - ok looking. At least it doesn't have the massive teeth grille. Let down in styling and cheap finishes 3 Audi - looks like it is from 2010 and should have some soft hats and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf
I wish Audi offered Ascari blue in the USA. It is better than the (somewhat boring) Navarra blue we get. I eliminated the Mercedes because of too much use of touch screens. The B58 in the BMW is amazing, but you can't get cooled seats and it leans heavily on the touch screens as well. I'm trying to make up my mind between the A4/S4 and the Cadillac CT5-V (non-Blackwing). The Audi is getting to be an old design, but I like the simple dials and buttons for the climate controls and its blend of sport and luxury for an everyday driver.
Nothing beats prestige of the AMG Benz. Interior and exterior are gorgeous, makes BMW look like a regular vanilla 3 series and the Audi looks like a Jetta. The color choice here not great on the Benz. Look at it in grey or black- it’s really no competition in terms of road presence and sheer head turning 🤩 factor. The 340 looks a dime a dozen, I pass them on the highway all the time and they just look like every other 3 series . Basic. I am curious- Is it really faster ? Car and driver took the c43 to 60mph in 4 seconds flat. What’s the 340 doing?
M340i is way faster and the new gen m3 and m4 obliterate mercedes in handling and speed. Throttle house, car and driver, carwow, miles per hr. All say the new bmws feels more like an occasion while driving and u get more feedback with the BMW. Where the benz is more bloated feeling and u dont get the feedback u want in the steering wheel and suspension like the BMW brings. They are both luxury cars. The new gen mercedes to me like this and the c63s look very round and bloated. Less sport and aggresive looking. U say the merc is more head turning.. i mean u can think at but just read the comments. Ur in the minority. Everyone likes the more sporty sleek BMW. The BMW looks like a mean aggresive sport car that a man would be driving. The mercedes looks like a bloated sedan that a female would be in. End of the day enjoy ur slower car that handles and breaks worse. Saying the merc is more head turning is flat out delusional. Even the guy in this video says the bmw looks better. Everyone says bmw is better looking
It wasn't detuned. When you look at the specification the full 700 nm torque is now available from 1750 rpm (it was 2500 rpm before). And the car is actually faster by 0,1 sec from 0-100 km/h.
@@trxchanger10 It kinda was. For 90-180 low down torque doesn't matter. The car will stay at higher revs like you see. There the 2019 has 4kW more peak. Torque drops earlier. I would really like to see the torque curves.
I'd have to go with the Mercedes. It looks the best to me, inside and out. I do like the engine in the BMW and the exterior doesn't look bad. The interior of the BMW is a huge improvement with the screen/insttrument panel. Still, would go with the AMG.

Great review as always 👍
cheers!
Well my M340i LCI arrives in three weeks so I already made my decision 😉😆
You still going for that or you changing it??
@@leslyjones718 no reason to change. Looks great, it’s very quick, has plenty of space for me. Can’t wait!
I already placed an order for an M340i Touring. All great cars but I'm happy with my choice and can't wait to have it delivered!
19:26 🤞🏻That very truly is.
because the engine is in the worst position possible in an audi…
@@hardywoodaway9912 what’s wrong with Audi, funny is bmws are well known for being unreliable, yes they sound nice, and yes they are broken 50% of the time.
the ultimate driving machine in a walkaway. the c43 sounded pretty good though
Love your video!! I just got myself an audi S4❤❤
cheers and enjoy ! :)
Alpina B3 starts around 90k euros in Germany, so if you don't go crazy with options you can have a 500 HP Alpina under 100k which is much better car than any of these 3 for almost the same money.
I bought a new c43 at 19 January and the car should be the first of august at my dealer.
1. M340i
2. Audi S4 (diesel but at least 6cyl)
3. C43 (absolutely boring, C43 used to be nice with that 6cyl/sound)
c43 in us version is definitely way louder than EU version.
@@berryhappy2625 so? It‘s still a 4cylinder engine. But I guess some people still believe louder = better, especially when talking about a 4cylinder
I recommend driving a C43 for real…it’s surprising, even with that little engine (that is also underrated)
another great informative review!
You re welcome!
C43 Is my favourite 😊
I driven an m340 and a c43 and the handling of both is amazing but the c43 handles on another level
I love your videos. Thanks for the great work.
Great comparison 🎉
Love your video and channel, this is my first time watching your channel and was looking between the blw and the Mercedes
Most welcome!
Actually the new next gen 5er should be sleeker and more handsome than the current one..
Whole luxury doesnt fit in C43? What are you talking abt?
I personally think the high spec 2.0L Giulia is the best overall package for a sport sedan available today, but the B58 in the BMW and the Audi seats and interior are incredible.
I am in love to with Alfa, but 3.0 R3 in BMW is also worth of considerations. Plus bmw is available in touring spec …
The Giulia does look great but interior is cheap in comparison to these, also the 2.0 engine is rough and slow. They are also very unreliable. If Alfa improved quality and gave it 360hp it would be perfect, unfortunately the 280 hp version just can't compete at the same level as these 3.
Julia looks so outdated with very cheap interior and garbage reliability
You are joking right? It’s a Chrysler. It looks nice but thats it.
@@MitchM240 what is a Chrysler? 😀
S4 TDI and c43 with 4 cyl 😂. I lost everything for Mercedes and Audi. I would pick that bmw any day
Audi has V6.
So informative! Leaning towards the M340i
Thanks! Feel free to recommend our channel :-)
1. BMW inline 6👌
2. Audi but with v6 3tfsi
3.mercedes
PS - mercedes - very expensive, small engine, week sound......bleah.........i have audi rs3 2.5 400 hp.....that is the engine that i look for or inline 6 from bmw....just order the new m2 with 450 hp
Wonderful comparative review!
BMW for sportiness
Audi interior
And Mercedes overall 🥇
I wish there was a way to get these three brands to collaborate on a special edition model that only has strengths from each of them 😅

1:33 sorry but if you’re going to show the preface s4’s sound then why not do the same for the merc?? The old c43 sounded amazing, better than the s4 and m340i prefacelifts.
So I am guessing in the states we are finally getting the m139 engine? Or are we still stuck with the anemic m133?
Thanks Rick!
I am 32 years old and totally agree with you.
I am 20 and fully support your opinion
Regarding engines my opinion goes semthing like:
You buy premium brands also (not only) for experience that other common brands can't deliver.
Very true and that engine is a beast. A marvel of enginerding for sure
C43 AMG!
Audi S4. I’ve had a few BMW 3 series cars and always got tired of them. The S4 is so easy to live with.
That special appearance on 2:29 was the most aesthetic one. He was indeed a lovely 🐕
The way that 3 series looks....wow
Why is video quality unavailable? On the us east coast…

Holy hell those prices are crazy!
I didn't expect it but the Audi petrol version is my favorite. Mercedes looks the best from the outside, but I am completely turned off by their interior.
You must note that the s4 TDI depreciated heavily, even more than some 45 tfsi models.😅
You can find one used and use the money gap to buy a proper week end car (like an mx5 or gt86)
You cant go wrong with any of them. Good review as allways.
yes you can. c43 and s4 are the inferior cars when we talk about engines

@@Fastwalker27 but the c43 isn't any faster that 4 pot is not making 400bhp no way if it was running 408bhp it would have a faster 0 to 60

Check the review 😎
8:33 I dont know why Audi keeps that "bad" interior. They should at least use the Rs3 style with the integrated display in the armature. This one look so oldschool.
In Australia, BMW every day of the week! Merc and Audi have very poor after-sales reputations compared to BMW. I also prefer its looks too.
I love watching John Cadogan over here in the UK who describes Mercedes as the three pronged suppository .
@@robertreid9079 He is very informative! I quite enjoy his content too!
BMW all day long and the B58 is a peach of an engine!
M340i all day easy choice
Thomas, this was a fantastic review. My choice lies between BMW and Audi, with more bias to BMW.
Is that S4 limited to 240 km/h? There’s a sticker on the left
Winter tires
the best three on the planet. the best automotive industry of all time
Indeed, I liked the video indeed
💪
Indeed
Clearly you had the most fun in the Mercedes, and the only real drawback to it that I saw was the fact that it's a four cylinder + hybrid which everyone makes a big deal over, but I personally don't care about. Whatever is the best driving experience. Only thing holding me back from the Merc would be the pricing, but also the reliability. I doubt it will be as reliable as the other two.
good thoughts!
Thomas, I wonder when you will do a Renault Austral review?
Excellent review
1 Mercedes - most modern and best looking as well as the best handling and, most importantly, the best improvement when you're spending way above the price of the standard sedan
2 BMW - ok looking. At least it doesn't have the massive teeth grille. Let down in styling and cheap finishes
3 Audi - looks like it is from 2010 and should have some soft hats and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf
the bmw has better handling and driving dynamics than audi no doubt
BMW interns quality is better than Mercedes - Mercedes has more bling bling looks - Audi is just an old people car 😜😂
@@elvissmeu6758 Audi for old people? Are yoi nuts? Hahahah I have never seen old fellow in Audi. 😂 From statisticks, Audi has youngest clients.
Strange that you got 11s 90-180 out of the S4 TDI. I got a figure more in line with the Mercedes and S4 TFSI when I drove the Avant.
How long ago was that? The Diesels have been detuned a couple of years back
@@autogefuehl You might be right. It was a late 2019 model. It pulled like few others directly after it upshifted at ~160km/h.
@@autogefuehl Different question. Did you drive on normal B7 diesel or Premium?
It wasn't detuned. When you look at the specification the full 700 nm torque is now available from 1750 rpm (it was 2500 rpm before). And the car is actually faster by 0,1 sec from 0-100 km/h.
@@trxchanger10 It kinda was. For 90-180 low down torque doesn't matter. The car will stay at higher revs like you see. There the 2019 has 4kW more peak. Torque drops earlier. I would really like to see the torque curves.
Please some comparison on plug-in hybrids

I agree, what with 2 kids and a dog it would good to see those comparisons, make it so Thomas!
I'd have to go with the Mercedes. It looks the best to me, inside and out. I do like the engine in the BMW and the exterior doesn't look bad. The interior of the BMW is a huge improvement with the screen/insttrument panel. Still, would go with the AMG.
