@@ukebox00oftheworld63 Today's so-called "artists" will NEVER know the REAL feeling of holding up that plaque with the silver, or gold, or even platinum disc representing the mammoth sales of their album or single. That plaque with the disc shows REAL PROOF that your record was successful. Having so many streams of a song.... that means NOTHING.... Seeing actual copies of your records literally flying off the shelves of the record stores and seeing the disappointed looks on the faces of those who got to the shop too late and missed out.....THAT IS EVERYTHING!

Another pattern for all future early Beatle albums was also established that day. John got a majority of the lead vocals. John had been nursing a very sore throat all day, sucking on throat lozenges and drinking glasses of milk to get him through what must have been a very painful day.

Another interesting video, thanks. I didn't get a copy of this L.P. until 1980, the year I turned 13 and still have the same copy. You're right about it not charting straight away: released March 22nd, it hit number one in the UK w/c May 11th, for 30 weeks, then being replaced by With The Beatles, w/c December 7th. Interesting about The Shadows; when Please P!ease Me hit #1, it replaced the 'Summer Holiday' soundtrack by Cliff & The Shadows (#1, 14 weeks) and before that, The Shadows 'Out Of The Shadows' (#1, 2 weeks). My 17 year-old son bought a 1963 mono copy last year too. Timeless band. Keep up the brilliant, informative videos. Thanks.

I saw on a BBC documentary that they didn’t intentionally save Twist and Shout for last. It was actually that they had decided to drop one of the songs they tried to record that day (I think “Hold Me Tight”) and so had to come up with another song to replace it. On a break, one of the EMI staff mentioned how he liked their rendition of “La Bamba” that he had heard them play on the radio. George said, “You mean, Twist and Shout?” and based on that short discussion they added it to the end of the recording session.

Another fact: in that marathon session, 11 songs were put to tape, but one didn’t make the final cut, which is an early version of Hold Me Tight. The song was re-record a couple of months later for the With The Beatles album, but that early version has never surfaced due to the fact that according to Mark Lewisohn, the master tape was either taped over or destroyed.

No mention that Ringo did not play drums on Love Me Do? Session drummer Andy White is the drummer on Love Me Do for the album although there are versions out there with Ringo and Pete Best playing drums. Also, the original album cover for Let It Be was taken at the same spot this was taken with the boys in the same positions. It was like they knew Let It Be was going to be their last album(even though it was recorded before Abbey Road).

Another interesting fact, regarding the lack of time & money. It relates to Ask Me Why on the album. Quote : "The Beatles production was too tight to allow for 2nd thoughts. Even 'dropping in' to erase a small mistake (such as the guitar fluff at 1.26)". A quote from the book, Revolution In The Head, by Ian Macdonald. You can hear the "fluff", made by George, on both the album & single. Such a thing would be unthinkable nowadays, with digital recording/editing facilities, even on the tightest of budgets.

Having so many "streams" counts for NOTHING! Having the physical record there in your hands, reading the label and noting every detail of it, seeing that big 45 in the top-right portion of the the black Parlophone label and the catalogue number under it, seeing the publishing credit printed there on the left of the label with the matrix number under it and the "Recording First Published...." year-date, and then seeing below the punch-out optional centre, the song title with your name as composer in brackets, then your name as performer in bolder print under that, with the copyright warning around the edge beginning with "The Parlophone Co. Ltd All Rights of... and that Made In Gt.Britain at the bottom of the label, NOW THAT'S REALLY SOMETHING!!! THERE IS NOTHING LIKE HAVING THE TANGIBLE PRODUCT RIGHT THERE IN YOUR HANDS!

Yes, The Shadows were the biggest group in the UK before the Beatles. The Shadows were a fantastic instrumental group featuring Hank Marvin on lead guitar. However, The Shadows focus was on instrumentals tracks which eventually limited their appeal in face of the British invasion bands. It was not until the late 60s that they really concentrated on vocal tracks.

I recently read a book called The Beatles: The Biography which spoke of the song Twist and Shout. It states that they needed one more song for the record (yes, I said record). They chose Twist and Shout to fill that space. John was suffering from a terrible cold at the time, but did it anyway. He did drink lots of milk to help soothe his throat, but today we know that milk is not a good idea for singers because of the amount of mucus it creates. I always noticed the cracking in his voice when I listened to this song. Once I read the book, it made sense why it sounded that way. He sounded like someone with a cold trying to sing. For Beatles fans, I highly recommend the book. It is close to 1000 pages on Kindle, but well worth it.

“Twist & Shout” turns out to be the closing track off the album for both “Please Please Me” in the UK, and “Introducing the Beatles” in the US.

I'm glad that you didn't say that the album was recorded in one day because it wasn't. The 2 previous singles were also on the album.

What made the Beatles rock Gods, was the fact that they used their own material as for others of that time were still doing cover songs.

What is the piano song playing in the background at the end of the video?

It nearly had nine original songs on it - "Hold Me Tight" was recorded for this album but they couldn't quite get it together. So, given the time pressure, they moved on.

I don't know. I don't know how many of these you have done because I've only heard, some time ago, the video you did on Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Anyway, I'll subscribe and try to check them out.
