We gotta remember, this is a movie, a dramatization. Even if it depicts a real life event, it doesn't have any obligation to be 100% historically accurate, that's what documentary's are for. In that regard, Will's performance as Ali is another great performance from him!
That split second where Ali's his confidence wavers after Liston snaps at 00:49, it reminds you that while Ali was extraordinarily driven and gifted, he was still a 22 year old kid, going against one of the scariest human beings alive at that point, and I think Will captures it perfectly.
