I was suprised to hear the comment RE:noise because I heard a few people say that this motor was drastically quieter than other brands! Thanks for making the video!
The two holes are for draining the water from the pump cavity. Other motors have this as well be it in different locations. Very popular motor even with vibration and noise. Add aluminum foam foil inside cover it reduces noise quiet a bit but not vibration
@@SteveChenFishing strange never had issues with pump not working. When I replace impellor on these motors I can see the water pickup going to bottom screen not to the two holes.
@@omieyouknowme yea those might be exit not entrance. Anyway if it's blocked the pump doesn't work properly... That part I'm pretty sure from personal experience...
Great review, I wouldn't like that forward design that catches leaves, I have had Yamaha and recently bought a Mercury. I still have both. Mercury is cheaper and parts are cheaper never owned a Tohatsu but had a Nitro 17' bass boat it had a 115 Evinrude.
Yea white colors is the worst, have same engine and its all scratched up within first year. Also gave me issues starting, bogging down and overall a bad experience, I would to with Yamaha if id know itll have so many issues. Now when I pull the cord to start the engine, it has clicking sound like theres friction as I pull the cord, still cant figure out what causing that. Overall Id go with honda or yamaha instead

Thx for watching! Yea Tohatsu is overall quiet and smooth, however Tohatsu 9.8 hp is quieter than Tohatsu 6 hp😎

Thx for the correction. Yes when it gets blocked the pump doesn’t work properly 🤣 good advice on the aluminum foil. 👍

Thx. Yea bigger ones are much better water inlet on the side
Я, то же себе купил, точно такой же. Пока проверить нет возможности , у нас зима. Всем добра.
Лучше бы ямаха или хонда, у меня такой же, куча проблем
Hows your new motor? Is it quieter?
Yes the 9.8 hp is much quieter and stronger.

It depends. Mine has some manufacturing defect on the carburetor I believe. 9.8 hp was much better.
Tohatsu is basically building Mercury's
yes the below 30 hp ones if I remember correctly
From my digging it was under 50
