Not convinced by the signwriting of the loco number - too spindy and the '6' is a very odd rendition of BR Gill Sans.
Best way to fix it would be to fit a straight boiler, a Midland tender, and repaint it in LMS crimson.
I went to see this myself last weekend (Saturday 10/2/24)- the late change from 'Britannia' to Royal Scot was actually quite good for me because, while I had seen 'Britannia' at the NYMR on its previous visit there I have never seen a 'Scot' running around, so that was an unexpected bonus for me. They are handsome locos. If there is anyone on the planet who hasn't seen it yet, the 1936 documentary film 'Night Mail' features her (also now preserved) sister locomotive no. 6115 'Scots Guardsman' and is well worth a watch.
I was surprised by how quiet things seemed on the day considering that there was a 'star' loco visiting the line and I found the shed shop at Grosmont closed, as though they weren't expecting enough visitors to make it worth opening. A member of the platform staff told me that the trains themselves were well booked. I did ask if there were any walk-on seats available on Royal Scot's trains, but was told no, pre-booking only.
I have to admit BR Brunswick Green, although era-appropriate for the loco as preserved, bores the pants off me. I went looking and found old images of the loco dressed up in LMS crimson and it immediately looked more elegant and more interesting, even if it was admittedly 'wrong'.
Lovely loco. I have a model of one. They look great thank you for film.
Hello thanks for watching. You're welcome. Sure is impressive especially when up close. Hopefully at the weekend I will capture it travelling up and down the line.
Great I 'll look out for more videos
Fine bit of filming.
Thank you Mike and thanks for watching, all the best :)
What happened to 70000 Britannia?. It was the locomotive booked for the half term week .
Sadly it wasn't ready in time as they had been doing some repairs.
Thank you for sharing an amazing train video. Greetings Joe 😊
