  • I decided to take the leap, and purchase a planer. This is my honest, step by step process of assembling it and using it for the first time.

Thank you, you are one of the few people that speak the truth. Most of the videos I've seen are paid, so they made good reviews, and as you know that it's a big lie.

if it's new then it's under warranty so why start messing when you could send back for replacement or refund. I've had one for 10 months and works ok but I never take more than 1/2 a turn off at a time and I only ever plane hardwoods.

On something extremely hard like white oak, You can't take off much at a time. That's why your belt shredded.... Even just a half turn might be too much. White oak is one of the hardest woods there is so you have to be very careful with that. Love your work shirt, by the way!

Thank you!! I am always learning, usually the expensive, hard way!

@@grammywithahammer2867 I give you alot of credit for doing so. You are one in a hundred to attempt, what traditionally is a man's line of work and I admire that. Not many people, men included would put everything on tape, including their mistakes. That takes courage. Good luck with the learning process and God Bless

Just watched your video because I just set mine up but wanted to watch videos on it and like you, new power tools make me nervous. I'm curious at what depth you were planning? Everything I read or watched you're supposed to go a little at a time. Also wondering if you ever figured out what the issue was or what caused it

Hi there. I tried at like the smallest I could because I am a newbie also. I haven't been able to use it again yet because I can't find a belt that fits. I have tried 3 different belt sizes that were supposed to be the right size but still no luck. The problem was the plastic casing over the belt I think got moved during shipping and it was rubbing on the belt and melted everything

It was making a weird noise as soon as you turn it on. Like maybe the bearings were bad which in turn could of make the belt to rub up against the plastic cover and sherd your belt. I would have just pack it up and return it, for either a refund or a replacement. What ever you did hope it came out good for you.

I have been dealing with trying different size belts still haven't been able to find one that fits the company doesn't have a working customer service number. I have taken it as an expensive lesson learned and I will only buy my big tools in person. Thank you so much for your kind wishes!

My harbor freight planer is doing the same thing. Shows some electric jolts from the side then starts smoking and I power it down. Happened three times on me not sure why.

Hi there. When I took the side panel off I found the plastic casing for the belt was cracked and rubbing on the belt and wheels. It had tore it all up and was melting.

Are you running it from that mess of electrical on the wall? Voltage drop might be why it burnt up.

And youre using the wrong dust attachment -without a vacuum

I am using it from that mess of electrical. I only run one tool at a time because of my limited electrical. I followed the instructions on which dust piece should be on with no vacuum, my biggest problem now is can't get any customer service and I can't get a belt replacement to fit on it. I have gotten the correct size finally but it still won't go on.

    Is it smoking ???????????????

It was smoking I tried calling customer service and went to the website I couldn't get a human on the phone. I tried a couple different belt suppliers they were all nice and helpful and sent me different size belts to try, but none of them I could get on the pulley wheel things so I finally gave up and an older, retired gentleman in my community took it and said he would putter with it and I broke down and bought a dewalt, it seems to be designed for Grammy brains

@@grammywithahammer2867 You need to watch more youtube vids as I didn't even see you level the infeed and outfeed tables so it's flat and level. all thicknesser machines need this doing before using, even the Dewalt.
