You make it look so much easier I had to do this once on a 08 400x and I questioned if I ever wanted to fix anything ever again the gasket given to me was folded in half to save packaging and after everything was back together it leaked where the gasket folded so I had to tear it back down again and to be sure I used a ton of gasket maker to ensure proper sealing and making sure it doesnt move so the bolts slide in properly also remembering where specific bolts went was a pain in the ass it also doesn't help that there isn't an outer and inner clutch cover which just increases amount of work needed
Could the clutch be the issue if it will start but won't move? I'm looking at buying one with issue. If it is the clutch I can fix it but I don't wanna bite off more than I can chew. What could I possibly be getting into? Any info would be appreciated tremendously and
yeah i followed this, didnt read comments before because he looks professional, but yes outta disc is offset and trust me, doesnt work right with it the way he put it....so just a heads up man, might wanna let people know this is the wrong way.
I'm looking at a 2012 it runs strong no weird noises in it for anything but it won't move could it be something to do with the clutch cuz I heard that his nephew wrote it and was slipping the clutch could it be that the clutch got so hot it kind of melted together
A fatal lesson learned for me I even had the service manual . Ended up putting the last 2 disks that way out all together and had no clutch disengage at all , broke the pusher rod thing and fork trying to force it
If you use to big of a torque wrench this happens. Anything below 20ftlbs use 1/4 not 3/4 I’ll just keep tightening and you’ll never hear the click because the bar is so much it acts a breaker bar so low foot lbs is really hard to do accurately. Atleast all it does is snap the head and you can just twist it about by hand
Warning!!! Warning!!! 9lbs is sometime to much for the used oem bolts I just snapped one at 8lbs with a 1/4 in snap on torque wrench. Easy fix they back right out with no spring pressure. Gonna hit the hardware store for new ones.
When the guy pulls the side cover off the last fiber clutch plate is installed with the tabs in the short grooves of the clutch basket. When installing the plates, the guy DOESN'T put the last fiber plate in the short grooves of the clutch basket before putting the side cover back on. ?????????
There are two different size dowel pins on the right crankcase cover. One is a 6x19 and the other is an 8x14. If you're familiar with the OEM part section on our website, you can view the Right Crankcase Cover schematic and it'll show you the location of both dowels. Hope that helps!
Kamden Minor I was lucky and when I tried to use an easy out, it just spun the bolt right out. Otherwise I would have had to remove the inner clutch basket and replace it. I just saw this message, I hope you got it figured out.
Yup your 100% correct they are Torque to yield bolts one time use only at that 9lb rating. I just snapped one at 8lbs . They come out easy though with no spring pressure.

Very helpful video, looks pretty similar to the TXR 300EX.
Glad it helped you out a bit! Thanks for watching!
Looking forward for some XR videos 🤟🏻
Love the quad vids
@Rockymountain MC ATV, what do you do about the stock clutch cable resting on the aftermarket exhaust pipes melting it?
Excellent video as always!!!
Hey you should make a video of 2001 Honda 400ex Spindle, Gearshift
Thanks for the info made me decide to replace inner hub and clutch pack 👍👌

Yeah I’m mine isn’t working lol what is the correct way?
I have an 05 am I supposed to remove the plastic footrest to remove the foot brake

O ya one more key note the last fiber clutch is supposed to be offset from the previous notches. Not sure how much this affects things.
It will make a big whining noise! Bet you he took it apart.
A fatal lesson learned for me I even had the service manual . Ended up putting the last 2 disks that way out all together and had no clutch disengage at all , broke the pusher rod thing and fork trying to force it
It showed in the beginning of the vid the last one as it should be now I know what happens if the last 2 are that way
What Torque wrench are they using
DO NOT TORQUE TO 9 FOOT POUNDS broke a a bolt bought new ones and BROKE another one just tighten all the way and go half a turn extra

Assuming it will be the same on the later 09+ x model
i layed my bolts right in order and took a marker and marked where first boult gos

How come some people offset the last plate and some keep it all the same?
It must be offset. This is a video that’s great but missed a major part

Sure as hell went way tighter than that for mine, could that be why it won’t disengage?
Clutch hub bolts
FYI 9 ft/lbs on the spring bolts WILL SNAP THE HEADS OF THE BOLT. thanks for nothing.
hartmeyer01 mine just snapped too, how did you fix it?
Kamden Minor I was lucky and when I tried to use an easy out, it just spun the bolt right out. Otherwise I would have had to remove the inner clutch basket and replace it. I just saw this message, I hope you got it figured out.
How do you measure that? I just tighten it until it feels right.
Yup your 100% correct they are Torque to yield bolts one time use only at that 9lb rating. I just snapped one at 8lbs . They come out easy though with no spring pressure.
Yup 9 ft pounds just snapped my bolt
Do not torque to 9 ft pounds
