@@Cnzxco I was a little too quick to respond. Depending on the condition of the engine, you have to determine whether it can still be saved.
Warming up an engine quickly or not is multifold: a cast iron cylinder plays no role there, aluminum is more sensitive to temperature differences. If the engine is ready for scrap then ... it doesn't matter at all.
If you use the right oil from factory - I always use Amsoil - and maintain everything properly, then you simply have years of pleasure. Except for wear parts.

In my opinion, it's always wise to pressure wash the crap off your engine before you take it apart so that sand and crap doesn't get inside.
If you want any of those parts vapor honed to look like new before you put it back together, bring it down, I will do it while you wait! As long as you are in there, replace Piston/rings, top end gaskets and valve seals. Light ball-hone of the cylinder would be a good idea as well.

The seating surfaces of the rings is what tells the condition and it takes a microscope to check them. Glad you found the damage to the piston before it shattered. I also have a feeling the rings were probably fine. I didn't see evidence of blow by, which leaves it's mark on the piston skirt. The valve guides and seals are my suspected problem area. New seals will help, even if the guides are worn. You can but an inexpensive tool to knurl the insides of the valve guides and bring them back into speck, if needed. Nice work!

  • @twisted-xh6066

Excellent to see you getting deeper for a diagnosis. Be it half-assed but I think you are starting to pick the concept up. Just wow, I don't know where to start I mean holy shit. It's like I said kid you will need a new top-end kit and a new bottom end kit at a minimum. I honestly hope that you don't think any of those parts are reusable. I think you got in over your head on this one, more so than before. Whoever suggested that removing the air filter would be a cure is on your level of knowledge. Possibly lower.

You've broken it down so far that you may as well replace the rings. Its easy to do now while its already apart. No sense in putting the old ones back in just to find out later that you should have replaced them. Easy and cheap enough to just go ahead and replace them. That's what I always do.

  • @dallinbrimhall1033

The reason the skirt cracked is because the piston is rocking around as it goes up and down in the cylinder you need to either get a new cylinder or have this one machined to the next size. Please listen to the comments on this one I've seen a couple other guys mention it you're going to ruin a new piston and possibly your whole motor if you throw a new piston in the old cylinder.

I didn't see you invert the piston then push the rings down into the cylinder so that the piston rings sit squarely in the cylinder so that you can get an accurate ring gap measurement.
It's probably best that you replace the piston rings anyway because they get tired since the engine runs hot for many years & thru lose their tensility or springiness.
I just rebuilt my dads 186 cc Honda lawnmower engine where it was burning oil when the engine was cold & it cleared up once the engine warmed up,the piston rings were tired & the rijg gaps were slightly too lsrge after 20 years of Mowing lawns with it !

When you measure ring gap, push the rings down with the piston so its even. Also not sure if youre really weak or that cylinder was way over tightened because you should not need a 3ft cheater bar to loosen those bolts. Been watching your videos for a while, would like so see you admit when you dont know how to do something or inspect something in this case. I can tell you dont have a lot of experience rebuilding 4 strokes haha no hate brother it just hurts to watch these videos sometimes but i keep coming back

If bolts are tight like the ones you broke work them back and forth slowly until they come out. you could've gotten the out with out breaking them

Replace piston, replace all rings, new gaskets, clean and lap valves while you have the head off. BTW valves don't have seals.. When closed they seal against another surface. Sometimes when valves aren't adjusted correctly carbon builds up on this surface and prevents valves from fully closing. Lapping will clean this surface and ensure valve closure when adjusted.

He meant valve guide seals they are what keeps oil from running past valve

If you rebuild the whole top end with NO SHORT CUTS it will fix it like new! I own 2 of them! While your changing the piston change rings valve seals and put valves back to speck!!! And I promise you that bike will be a brand new MONSTER!!!

  • @lukecombs5659

No point in measuring ring gaps until you get new ones and unless you are replacing the cylinder you will need to have the old cylinder crosshatched so that your rings seat properly if not it will continue to smoke remember it ain’t worth doing if you ain’t gonna do it right please don’t halfass sir thank you keep it vintage and stay safe 😷

Those pieces that hold the valve in place are called valve locks or keepers as some people call them.
