There are two kinds of people in the world... those who love Manchester Orchestra and those who haven't heard them yet, imo
Probably the most underrated and underappreciated band in existence if you ask me. Their latest album "Million Masks Of God" is my favorite album by anyone period. Definitely reccomend diving into more when you find the time
Have you explored Nightwish? Great songs for them are romanticide, while your lips are still red, Ghost Love Score , sleeping sun, and The Islander (Truly so many amazing songs but these are my favorites) Or really got into Rammstein, especially with their music videos. Best songs for UA-cam I’d say Mein Hertz Brent acoustic, Zeit, Seeman, Ohne Dich.
I am really into the live recording they did over covid.
Everything they do is amazing
MO is pure gold. Seen them a few times in concert and saw Andy Hull on his solo tour. One of the best bands around and 100% underrated. They should be blown up, but I kinda like that they aren't since we get to see them at smaller venues, which is the best experience.
Exactly my thoughts every time I listen to any album by them ever! They should 100% be a household name! I can easily say they are my favorite band and it's not even close!
That is the face of someone hearing Manchester for their first time. Love this reaction
They are criminally underrated….Andy Hull is lyrical genius
One of the very best bands ever. So under-appreciated and criminally unknown in the mainstream. For a general concept, this song is him talking to god, god talking to him and him praying over his daughter.
Agreed. I discovered them in 2005 when they opened for Brand New and have been obsessed since.
@@jasonstehlick452 I saw that tour. Caught them at house of blues Orlando. Amazing show. Speaking of amazing bands, Brand new are fantastic too, despite their recent issues.
I bawl evwy time I listen to this song. This and Cope.... Extremely underrated!
I do not understand this overused comment on all their videos. They literally headline international festivals. They are not your little secret and haven't been for a very long time.
@@MarxAviano*cries in 500,000 monthly Spotify listeners* they're really not that big all things considered, far from underground, but still not as big as they should be.
This song made me silently sob for a year over my broken heart and after two years I can listen without crying 💔❤️🩹❤️❤️🔥
This is my favorite song ever. I have never listened to anything more hauntingly beautiful as this masterpiece
It's like he's genuinely spilling his heart out completely. Hauntingly beautiful, nicely put.
Andy Hull is a phenomenal song writer and he continues to deliver his songs with the passion he intends. I have been lucky enough to witness this song in person 4 times and each time the band brings it.
Their entire album, Black Mile to the Surface is a masterpiece! Thanks for reacting!
It was the album that turned me into a major Manchester Orchestra fan. That was when producer Catherine Marks worked with them, and their sound went from really good, to amazing. There is not a single song on A Black Mile To The Surface, The Million Masks Of God, or their latest LP, The Valley Of Vision, that I want to skip.
This group doesn’t get anywhere near the attention they deserve it is sad they are amazing!
I never listen to just ONE Manchester Orchestra song, I always listen to their albums, front to back.
That’s the way. Def how it was intended to be heard 🙏🏼 seeing them again tomorrow I can’t waittttt!
It's amazing how once introduced to Manchester Orchestra people become fans. My son got me into them, now my wife is a fan.
I was introduced about 10 years ago by a (now former) student. Incredibly talented and highly underrated.
This song is off their 5th album A Black Mile to The Surface. The whole album is gold (pun intended for MO fans) and I highly recommend you checkout the album as well as their earlier works as each album is different.
They aren't a religious band, but carry over their experiences and upbringings into their music. Manchester Orchestra I feel like is one of the "best kept secrets" in indie rock bands for the last 18+ years
I remember reading somewhere the lead singer, Andy Hull, wrote the song from different points of view.
As a prayer to god, god talking to him, god talking to his daughter, and then a prayer for his daughter.
The song has this weight that just bookends the album so well
Top Notch 😉 explanation
Really like them, they have a bit of a Moby vibe.
@@Topher5127 👈👈😎
You guys, stop... I Can Barely Breathe for laughter, lol. 👌
“The whole album is gold” second track refrence
Omg I only recently started listening to this group, all because of this song. I cannot get enough of this song, it has so many meanings to me and if I get deep in thought it makes me cry. Such a powerful song. Never would have thought a reactor I watch would ever react to it, love it!
This band breathes such beauty into my soul…the depth of poetic meaning is incredible.
This song, the music, words…what I can say…emotionally perfect
All of their music and lyrics are fantastic! They can write and play.
"Angel of Death" and "Telepath" are two beautiful songs off their most recent album. Highly suggest you give those a listen. Cheers!
Andy Hall regarding today’s song: “The last track is called ‘The Silence.’ This song is one of the songs I wrote - popped out of bed at one in the morning - it felt like I kinda had to get this thing down, and really, it’s a prayer to God. It’s God talking to me, God talking to my daughter, and then ultimately at the end, the finale is me praying over my daughter.“
Yea! U got hypnotized by Mr. Andy Hull’s magical
Voice
Enjoy your new favorite band.
A Black Mile To The Surface is one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard ❤️
This band is so powerful in its music. They should be on the top of the charts with many of their songs. I just recently found them on UA-cam. They are fabulous. Singer has an outstanding voice, phenomenal
Best rock band out right now. Loved them from day 1. So incredible live
Manchester is the best band out right now. I love introducing my friends to this band and the rabbit hole they gone down. One of the only artist i can truly say there live performance is better than the studio album.
Your side smile when a song drops hard never fails to make me giggle/cry.
OK, try as you might. I saw those same tears, that i had. It is a most powerful song, maybe true, or not but it definitely moves most of us.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever ❤
Great reaction! IIRC this was about the internal conflict and the religious conflict he had after having a child, hoping the sins of the father wouldn't come back to harm his daughter, hoping he'll be successful in raising her and not make the same mistakes that were made with him
Black Mile to the Surface is an album I'm pissed somebody didn't put me onto sooner. It's a top 10 alt-rock album for me and nobody talks about it.
Please react to "Where have you been?". Although it's not my favorite song, when I think of MO, I think of this song. It's a classic. Shit, listening to that song always brings me back to high school, lol.
Vocals on Where Have You Been? are top tier Andy Hull
Man, I’ve watched a lot of your reactions and am stoked you got to a song from my favorite band. Definitely give this album a go, it’s a story about a man from leads, SD. There are also parts about the frontman being a dad, which is what that last repeating verse was about. Bullying, mass shootings, it’s a crazy album and the music videos are must watch. They did a whole live performance front to back as well in an old church.
Yes it's bout his search for god. This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it. Very powerful song.
Nothing is better then getting to witness this song in person, I could have died right there
This isn’t my favorite some of theirs but Manchester Orchestra is the soundtrack of my life. I love them so much. Brilliant song writing.
Healing powerful music 👍🙏♥️listen to EVERYTHING!!!
Thank the lord! I needed someone with a following to start reviewing these guys!
The Alien breaks me. Love 99.9% of their stuff!!
I love to see your reaction right at 7:20 .. you start feeling the deep jam beyond the amazing lyrics.
MO is, as many have said, one of the hidden gems of music.. Andy Hull is an amazing songwriter and genius lyricist.
I’ve seen them at least a half a dozen times live, and try not to miss a chance.
Glad you enjoyed this.
Oh and they are the best band I’ve seen in concert. Amazing performers. Frequently at Lollapalooza.
Such a powerful band…. So many of their songs are full of emotion.
Amazing song has everything needed in a song and plenty more. 👍👏👏
So this song is actually about a man talking to god and talking to his adopted daughter. The adopted daughter is the daughter of the man's brother who struggled with alcoholism (along with their father, previously noted in other songs on this album). The brother ended up killing his wife while she was pregnant, the little girl survived and this culminates in the man explaining her nature and why she feels the way she does. The line "Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry" I think speaks to so many fathers watching their children struggle with sorrow and angst. This whole album is a concept and tells a very dark story. Much like many of their albums and side projects. See: Right Away Great Captain! Another band that the lead singer has meticulously worked on and crafted a beautiful story around.
TRY SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't need a back story
pretty sure plenty of others dont either
I actually appreciate you explaining the backstory. Thank you
You have great insights on his lyrics. Andy Hull often sings about inner battles with light and dark and specifically his relationship with god. Im not particularly religious, but it is difficult to not be moved by Manchesters music in a deep way. Truly one of the greatest bands in existence.
Been looking forward to you hearing these guys
When I gave up on life this hit home and makes me miss my wee one evermore
Alien off of Black Mile to the Surface, and I also am digging the Hope album, which is "quieter" versions of the songs on the Cope album
Hello I hope you are well, I heard this song recently and it's taken me down a rabbit hole. I watched your reaction when it kicked in. Bloody good eh? I think this song as are all of them in my world subjective. In my world this is about a girl I'll sadly never see again. You're right it definitely sounds like a gospel song and isn't it brilliant that someone from a different part of the world can make you feel something? Hope you have a good day x
If you want to stay on that album, The Gold is incredible!
I'm so happy that you found this song. Every time i see it pop up in my suggestions I have to take a few moments to listen.
This is from the band itself what the song means. "The last track is called “The Silence.” This song is one of the songs I wrote - popped out of bed at one in the morning - it felt like I kinda had to get this thing down, and really, it’s a prayer to God. It’s God talking to me, God talking to my daughter, and then ultimately at the end, the finale is me praying over my daughter.
That song was there, but without that last minute and a half, two minutes of the song, it doesn’t hold the same weight as it would. Catherine just continued to kind of say, “I don’t feel it yet.” She couldn’t ever give us specifics about what “it” was, but she was just basically like, “I’m not jumping up and down yet,” which was so wildly frustrating, but she forced us to just keep going and I’m so happy she did, because we ended up getting this crazy outro that then led to this ability for me to have space where I could write this kind of last, final prayer/poem for my daughter to close out the record, and it was sort of this perfect circle to begin the record and end the record with this conversation. It was really great. By the end, by the time it hits you - hopefully it does what we were intending, which was, ya know, it knocks you, knocks your face off."
This is what live music is, so much energy, such great sound
Thank goodness for YT. I found this amazing band a few years ago. Never played on the lame mainstream radio stations in the UK - never.
My fav band, more please!
I'd start with most anything from a black mile to the surface, which this song is from. Venture from there.
Manchester orchestra and Andy hulls voice literally give me the chills no matter how many times I listen to their songs
Love this band, one of my favorites from them!
MO is one of the most impressive bands out there today imo. Also one of my all time favorites. Been watching you a while and can't believe I never thought to drop their name into the hat
I’ve always loved this song it’s absolutely incredible thx for the react my guy great vid!
The Black mile to the surface was a concept album written about the homestake gold mine in Lead SD USA. With some mixed in feelings from the birth of Any Hull, lead singers daughter….
I like how you explain to your audience your pulling up lyrics so not to be misunderstood
His father was (is) a pastor. A lot of his earlier stuff Andy Hull RAGC is gospel. Lyrics about the bible, life, death, love, so you're not wrong
I know of another recent discovery that I would dare to put on this level: Klone, start with the song Yonder, or Night and Day. I loved the reaction to this song, I felt the same way when I first found Manchester Orchestra. Anathema is another band I'd put on this level.
I got to see them in Birmingham Al touring this album.
Before that I got to see Andy Hull on a small venue acoustic tour. He sold out the Hi Point in Memphis Tn on a Sunday night. My musician friend told me that was unheard of and most bands just don't sell out any small venues in Memphis.
I was on the front row to their concert in Houston in 2021.
They BLEW MY SOUL AWAY. 💥
Love seeing other people get into Manchester. My wife fell in love with them after hearing them from when I would play them in the car. Now I can freely blast this in the house:)
The song is a reflection on how longing for someone and trying to prove your worth to them often backfires. More specifically.. His dad.
The lead singer’s father and grandfather were pastors, but the band is not a religious band. There is another with a kind of similar theme about dying and the video is amazing. It’s basically showing his near death experience or perhaps death experience. Excellent. Cage the Elephant has a similar-themed video and amazing song.
It’s a song that started of as a prayer. It’s Andy coping with the anxiety of being a father, and coming to the realization that if he believes in god, that all he really needs to do is try his best to express god’s love to his children and get out of the way.
I'd recommend a song, but it doesn't even matter. Listen to any of them.
Very happy to see that you enjoyed your experience with the band! Give "I Know How to Speak" and Manchester Orchestra - The Way (Official Live Video) and the shortest and most beautiful song and video, Manchester Orchestra - The Sunshine (Music Video) . Brilliant band! 😎👍
Listen to the album COPE… and especially DEER!!! Been onto MO for years. Seeing them live was truly perfection
Song touched that man. Loved seeing it. Stay blessed.
Without question one of the best bands live I’ve ever seen.
My favorite independent artist
Let me open my eyes and be glad that I'm still here
One of my favorite bands and songs
Cette chanson est magnifique ❤️❤️❤️
oh this is my favorite band :’)
Their music definitely has religious elements and often deals with grappling with your faith. Their latest album "The Million Masks Of God" is an especially strong example of this. The lead singer's father and grandfather were both preachers, so religion played a big role in his childhood.
Great interpretation.
Top Notch (Live) @ TabernaclE- MO
so glad you found them...this song is a part of my soul...i believe this song is about his relationship with his daughter and god
Dude that was a great reaction keep it up this wanna favorite bands . Do your thing. This song really helped alot of their songs. I suffer from bipolar disorder. I don't think it has anything to do is related.
Virgin by Manchester orchestra is a completely different sound but I love it
My absolute number one band of all time!!! You should also check out frightened rabbit!!! I recommend woke up hurting
Manchester orchestra is an incredible band, and a must see in concert. I can't get enough of them. The singer Andy Hull is a genius with lyrics.
you are ahead on reaction videos by reviewing Manchester Orchestra...your ARE QUITE POSSIBLY THE FIRST! Thank you...they are underrated and worth it. 🙂 Only one gets to be the first to do this reaction video ;-)
Album version is fire 🔥 Sound is so much better
The Way - hands down has been my favorite for a while now
So good! Rear view also.
You know damn well that was fire
Listen to Angel of Death, or Telepath, they are heartbreaking, will bring you to tears..
Got to hear The Way, and from the same album as the Silence, The Gold, and The Alien
The Silence 🙏🏼🍃
This Song u Listen its Live not a Video clip in the Studio its pure Perfection !!!
I had NOT considered your slant. I'd always made the song about a love.
And I'm a fkn atheist.
;)
Your version fits WAY better.
I feel like he’s looking in a mirror. Like you said, reflecting on life. At one point it feels like they break the mirror. Realizing that his life doesn’t have to be be his kids life.
I am a massive fan of this track and I found it interesting that you took the religious route… I view this from a love relationship where someone loves the person from the heart there singing about… I can see the religious connection but there is also the love interpretation…
Espetacular
Everything to nothing was the one for me for so long but all of their stuff is top teir. Them and mewithoutyou are my two favorite bands. I highly recommend mewithoutyou
Wish I could hear it again for the First time
