- Andy Dunks - former IT security analyst at Fujitsu Services Ltd - faced a barrage of questions over how employees of the firm viewed their role towards subpostmasters.
A lawyer for core participants pointed to an email exchange between him and a colleague where the other man branded a subpostmaster a 'nasty chap.'

This man shows brilliantly what the subpostmasters were up against. He also demonstrates why the public inquiry was necessary.
No the parrot is not dead it's just having a rest.
It’s truly shocking the imbalance and abuse of power in the corporate world, the closing of ranks, the self protection at all costs. How many other large corporates are just the same with their lip service to whistle blowing policies in reality most employees would be far too frightened of the consequences to use. They get to know it was you, the kind of facts you give point arrows back to where it came from. There’s no such thing as true whistle blower anonymity.

No credibility left for any of the fujitsu or post office. Their behaviour has been laid bare for all to see during this inquiry. Rewatch the impact statements again and realise what those postmasters were really up against. The lack of respect in this business is a lesson to us all.
There's seems to be no depth of dishonesty to which these people will not go to try and absolve themselves of blame and the stain of moral depravity that the Post Office scandal has unearthed.
Yet, fujitsu is a major force still providing IT services for the Australian defence and commonwealth government. So its another PwC brother in arms

The contempt and bullying of the sub postmasters by both Fujitsu and the Post Office was disgusting!

I struggle to fathom the moral outlook of Fujitsu and the Post Office Executives. It’s like they’re in a School playground and trying to win their way into the Gang and look good to the Hierarchy!
I wonder how many more got peerages for absolutely nothing?
I don't suppose the Fujitsu mindset was or is any different to any other large company. They never think their abhorrent attitude and behaviour will be exposed in this way. According to the evidence given not a single person has done anything seriously or deliberately wrong and yet here we are with our fellow innocent citizens being treated like garbage, criminalised, lives ruined, some driven to suicide, and others dead and buried before even a hint of compensation when the injustice was clear as day. This case has made an absolute mockery of the British justice system. It is only there to keep the proletariat in their place.

He probably took 10 minutes for each witness statement, cutting a pasting from the sacred template.
She's improved quite a lot during this Inquiry. The finesse in the timing and pauses are becoming first rate. The 'nasty chap' section in particular was one of those moments when the silence is more eloquent than much that has gone on before.

Among all the odious witnesses from Fujitsu/POL, this person is one of the more odious. There's a pause at 3:06 when he realises his awfulness has been exposed.

I think he now regrets trying to bignote himself by being an "expert witness". She clearly exposed that he did no checking at all and just said whatever the lawyers wanted him to. Also, very Difficult to see how being a security analyst would have made him an expert in this matter anyway. The issues were not security related. The last lawyer started to ask him about the use of Windows NT well past its use by date, which he might have known something about, but I think he was cooked by then.
Theres been a few ive watched and the denial and ineptitude where fujitsu didnt do any wrong and neither the Post office is amazing. Emails like this showing the direction the team and teams all went. Ease one thing the crippling way these people all worked. Humanity -20

I think Fujitsu are liable and are in line for a lot of compensation payouts to a lot of individuals......well that is if there is any justice left.
How much has he earned with them over 30 years to be their yes man and do absolutely nothing of consequence. He does not know the meaning of integrity but someone must have suggested he use the word a lot.

We have all become familiar with anyone associated with POL & Fujitzu performing in this manner on the witness stand, its the norm now, so don't expect any difference..
Knowing what he must have at the time about the shortcomings of Horizon, I wonder if he ever had a quiet moment to himself where he questioned his and his company's moral responsibility. It's quite frightening how a toxic culture and financial dependency can so easily erase of suppress such moral qualms.

...to the extent of sending independent expert witness statements to the Post Office before trials....so the Post Office could remove anything relating to failures in Horizon's performance.

Today’s evidence highlights two recurrent points I think a) PO and Fujitsu people, at all levels, show no curiosity. They never question the contentious or the plain stupid request b) again, at all levels, there appear to be too few deep technical experts ( Gareth Jenkins aside!) so they simply accept what they’re told about Horizon. It’s the British scourge of the generalist - board members with 1sts in English and PPE and analysts with a few ‘O’ levels ( for the older ones) and little bona fide training beyond that 5:56
Yes - like Paula vennels - who no doubt claims her language degree “taught her to think” yet any whiff of something technical , something involving law - or morals, data, or logic, and she says “I don’t know about that”. That’s a pretty poor level of thinking if you know so little of these things when high up the management tree in a large modern organisation for which legal, operational, data, logic and IT systems will be essential and key. For some reason we’ve allowed it to be acceptable to call oneself educated whilst ignorant of these key skills that only come by education- that are essential for anyone at a high level.

It’s incredible that ALL questioned in this enquiry constantly went to the default ‘I can’t remember’ …. ALL of them . Perhaps they may remember while in prison !!!!
Sewell’s ‘hang people out to dry’ email is, I suspect, indicative of the real attitude of many of the key, and not so key players in this shameful episode. Unlike Jenkins, who the jury still seems to be out on (naïve but not malicious?) Dunks provided nonsense, thicko answers, in a vain attempt to cover up his complicity, wrongdoing and shoddy work - meticulously picked apart today. His sycophantic relationship with the original author of the maliciously flippant business communication mentioned above tells it all. It cannot be unsaid.
On a wider point, given the immense difficulty in taking on an entity like POL in court, the very idea that SPMs who had genuinely been “on the take” would take it that far should be a big red flag to anyone who wasn’t predisposed to thinking that ordinary folk are all crooks. The real crooks, as revealed by this fascinating inquiry, are more likely to be the ones armed with designer ties or scarves, who tar honest people with their own corrupt brush.

Painful watching that guy squirm. Lots of denials, no offers of alternative viewpoints because there weren't any. Remains to be seen how those culpable will be financially affected, they've all been kept in clover since the issue came to public notice.
As far as I can tell, the ‘nasty chap’ comment came from his boss. Why aren’t they asking him about that? This guy is an IT security analyst. Their role is to manage IT security events, review logs, investigate suspicious IT activity etc. He may well have had an opinion on postmasters at the time, but not sure how that’s relevant to his role. Has he made false statements relating to technical facts or something? As a technical witness, he's not responsible for making any judgement at all on the 'nasty chap', and any decent prosecutor would not allow him to. I'm not aware of the reason he was called originally, but likely it would have been to offer a technical opinion on whether specific security related events happened or not. He cannot be relied on for the reason behind an event, only that the event happened.
You've got to love these electronic paper trails. In plain sight for all and sundry to see.

We all understand that a Fujitsu employee would NEVER have any conflict of interest to testify to the best of his ability in favour of his job, even if his manager sends him his blessings that they “support him” all the way against the “bad subpostmasters”.

They (the police, not solely the Met) are not, there are 80 detectives working on this case. The police will not give a running commentary on their investigation whilst the public inquiry is in progress
Well, to be fair, it would be foolish to stop these people form possibly incriminating themselves up front, wouldn't it? I mean, why not wait, collect evidence and the way this hearing is going there are bound to be a fair few who'll contradict that evidence.
I was under the impression that by giving evidence to this inquiry means they cannot now be prosecuted.A sort of "Get out of jail free card"but be exposed and humiliated in public inquiry

A totally arrogant man who does not like anyone with the audacity to question him about his judgement. I would say he has the most disgusting of attitudes I have ever heard and seen so far. Again this tells me how hard it must have been for Sir Alan Bates to have gathered the information to prove that they were all corrupt. I honestly cannot get to grips with why so many of the so called witnesses feel they have to not tell and admit the truth? Are there other things they are guilty of that the inquiry to date have not realised? Why the lies? Why are they all so defensive? At the end of the day it can only be one thing and that is from the bottom to the top imo. “BONUSES” The carrot was so golden and they all wanted their bit of it. GREED. Even this nobody was in on it.
